Eurovangelism Banquet

EUROVANGELISM/EUROAID BANQUET

Since 1965 Eurovangelism has worked with churches, organizations and individuals in Europe and Russia as they seek to make Christ known through their words and actions.

Orangeville - Thursday, May 6 at 7 p.m. at the Best Western, 7 Buena Vista Dr. (Hwy 10 & 9)

We are excited about our special guest speakers from Russia and England

Galina Dzhuzenova has been the Executive Director of Compassion Ministry in Moscow, Russia for 25yrs. She has given great leadership to assist the needy, orphans, the sick and the elderly. Galina will share the ministry of assisting others in need.

Gary Cox is the recently retired president of Eurovangelism UK. He continues to minister with Alpha International. Gary will share how Alpha is now available in Turkey. Men and women are coming to know Jesus.

Hardi Kubassek, DIrector of Open Doors, Foundation in Medgidia, Romania, will give a ministry report. Brian Lise is the Director ofEurovangelism/EuroAid. Brian will "MC" this special"Vision" Banquet. John Murray, author of “If We Only Knew…” and former Director Eurovangelism/EuroAid, will be on hand for book signing.

THANK YOU!

Before Christmas, we took 9000 pop cans away for recycling - pop cans that you donated and we crushed! This brought in $125 which was sent to Eurovangelism to buy 1 pair of boots, a food box to feed a family for a month, and supplies for a soup kitchen for children in Bulgaria.
Thank you for your continued support for this endeavour. As you can see, it takes a lot of pop cans to raise a small amount of money. Perhaps your friends or relatives would be willing to help too. In addition to pop cans, wine and beer bottles would be appreciated as they give better returns (20 cents and 10 cents each!).
Please respect the law and do not help us by taking cans or bottles from the blue boxes on the curbs in your neighbourhoods.

Bake/Craft Sale

BAKE/CRAFT SALE

We will be having a bake/craft sale during Kid’s Day (MAY 30) to help off-set the cost of the event. If anyone is interested in donating a baked item (nut free) or some home-made crafts it would be greatly appreciated. They can contact Dorothy Pardy at 905-281-2104 or Dpardy2104@rogers.com. Craft items can be brought to the church office at any time and baked goods can be brought on the Sunday morning of Kids day.

Rob Patterson

Rev. Dr. Robert G. Patterson is Director
of Missions for the Toronto Baptist Ministries.

Rob has been serving Christ in Canada and around the world for thirty years. Rob received his call to mission and ministry when he was 14. He began working with Aboriginal Canadian and the North American Indigenous Ministries during his teen years. Rob moved to Ontario for his first degree completing a degree in Psychology at the French campus of York University. Continuing his vision for mission and service Rob moved east to Nova Scotia where he completed a Masters in Education and a Masters in Divinity degree at Acadia University. Most importantly he met Sarah in Halifax and they married in 1987.

They moved to Toronto where Rob enrolled in a one year postgraduate program in urban studies (BUILD) For the next three years Rob pastored St. George Baptist church where he lead the church through a time of significant growth in numbers and outreach.

In 1990 Rob and Sarah were called to serve with Canadian Baptist Ministries in East Africa. They moved to Kenya (East Africa) where Rob directed and taught in the Certificate in Ministry program. For the next ten years Rob grew the program from a certificate program to a degree-granting program with degrees being offered from Bachelors in Ministry to the doctoral level. They became fluent in Swahili and integrated into life in the rhythms of Africa.

During this time Rob completed a doctorate From Carey Theological College (University of British Columbia) with his thesis focusing on cross-cultural education. In 2001 Rob and Sarah moved to Toronto where he served with CBM as the national director of youth ministries and short-term ministries.

He authored a book in 2003 with his friend (Dr. Bruce Fawcett) entitled Missional Youth Ministries.

Rob moved into leadership with the Toronto Baptist churches in 2005 where he is leading a campaign for church growth and intentional intercultural ministry.

Rob enjoys time with his family and home church. His hobbies are photography, music and guitar / mandolin, computers and motorcycles.

CBOQ Celebrates the Calling of Executive Minister
Rev. Tim McCoy

Dear Christian Friends,

With joy and thanksgiving we announce to our CBOQ family the appointment of Reverend Tim McCoy as the Executive Minister of Canadian Baptists of Ontario and Quebec, effective April 1, 2010.

Rev. Ted Searle, President of CBOQ, believes that, "Tim brings to this position outstanding leadership capabilities and proven experience in working together with leaders and churches in responding to the challenges of Christian witness in this age. His visionary leadership as Director of our Convention's vital youth ministry uniquely positions him to bring the next generation of leaders along with him in this new role. I believe he is the person God has called to lead our Convention into this next decade."

Tim McCoy has over 19 years experience in pastoral ministry and other positions of leadership in Christian organizations and the charitable sector. In these roles he has demonstrated an exceptional capacity to engage, inspire and lead people as a pastor, ministry leader, team builder and as a faithful, passionate disciple. He is a gifted communicator who relates well to people and draws them in. He has the ability to envision beyond the present, to articulate vision and lead strategically to achieve results.

Tim shares his enthusiasm for our family of churches stating, "Our Convention finds itself in an exciting time and place in the story of God. We have many new and seasoned leaders who are living out their own missional story in their regional context. CBOQ's mandate is to journey with churches, leaders and sister organizations to both learn from one another and to encourage one another. I am excited about working with our staff team here at the Convention offices and working with our Board and church leaders to see CBOQ have greater Christian impact in our own communities, in our country and around the world."

COME TO OUR ANNUAL MEETING AND CELEBRATION on APRIL 24

Join other Baptist pastors and church leaders on Saturday, April 24, as together we welcome new churches and pastors, and discover how our churches can grow by welcoming the strangers in our city. We'll begin with coffee at 9:30 a.m. and continue through lunch, prepared and served by our Karen friends from Myanmar (Burma). Our luncheon speaker, Mark Caruana, led his church in Utica, New York, to become a role model for welcoming refugees from Burma (Myanmar). Our host church, Martin Grove Baptist, is on Hedges Blvd. just east of Martin Grove and south of Eglinton Ave. W. It has ample parking.

SCOTT MISSION

OUR NEXT VOLUNTEER NIGHT IS FRIDAY, APRIL 16, 2010.

We sort donated food or clothes and hand out sandwiches and coffee.
For anyone interested, please meet at the church at 5:30 pm. We return to the church about 9 p.m. If any of you have cars and are able to take a few people, it would be much appreciated as sometimes we are short of vehicles. You can also meet us down there. The Scott Mission is on the northwest corner of College and Spadina Avenue in downtown Toronto (beside the Waverly Hotel). There are several parking areas near the Mission and limited street parking in front of the building. Call Roger Trueman if you need more details or if you plan to attend.
