MCCC's next meeting will feature a vist by Jay Johnson, the 36th Director of the U.S. Mint. Mr. Johnson was appointed by President Bill Clinton and served from May 2000 through August 2001. He will talk about his experiences while serving as the Mint's director.

MCCC's next meeting will feature MCCC President Scott Barman who will talk about Competitive Collecting and Registry Sets. Competitive Collecting opens a new area of coin collecting with people looking to create the best collection of each class. Scott will show off his competitive sets and discuss what he has learned while trying to put together top graded sets. Scott is stepping in for Former Mint Director Jay Johnson who had to cancel for a family obligation. Jay will join us for our July 8 meeting.

IN MEMORIAM: Bill Massey

MCCC was saddened to learn that Bill Massey passed away on May 25, 2008. SGT. MAJ. William McKinley Massey, "Bill" to his friends, was born on April 18, 1925 and served over 26 years in the U.S. Army. A member of our greatest generation, Bill served in World War II and during the Korean War. His son Willy says that one of his biggest joys was Numismatics. He loved going to the monthly Montgomery County Coin Club Meetings, and especially loved working the big Baltimore Coin and Currency Conventions with his son Willy. MCCC sends its sincere condolences to the Massey Family.

Our next meeting will be a discussion of MCCC's responsibilities at the ANA World's Fair of Money at the end of the July. We will be seeking volunteers for greeters and other jobs at the show. We will also be manning the Club Table that will be set asside for the host clubs. Please check your calendars and come prepared to tell us how you can help! PLEASE NOTE: The May meeting will be held in the Schweinhaut Center, where we usually hold meetings.

Our next meeting will feature MCCC member Ken Glickman will demonstrate his online catalog of California Gold coins and varieties at www.calgoldonline.com. Ken has amassed an impressive collection of California gold coins which is the basis for this informative resource that he will demonstrate at the meeting. PLEASE NOTE: The April meeting will be held in the Argyle Center, where we held our January meeting. The Argyle center across the parking lot, beyond the tennis courts, and up the hill from the Schweinhaut Center, where we usually hold meetings.

Our next meeting will feature noted rare coin dealer Julian Leidman who makes his annual visit to MCCC to talk about the state of the industry. Julian is always informative and entertaining and a popular guest at MCCC meetings. Additionally, we have some business to discuss regarding our participation as the host club for the ANA Worlds Fair of Money. MCCC welcomes everyone interested in any area of numismatics to attend our meetings!

New Website Update

A new addition to the website is a Google Calendar Widget thata will maintin the calendar of National and Regional coin and currency shows. The calendar will allow me to enter events when I can and keep the website updated without my intervention. It will help keep the site up to date with this information. I hope this helps you in your collecting endeavors.
