MCCST Houston has joined the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership in order to support the thriving aerospace industry surrounding the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center. BAHEP provides the necessary support to keep this important industry cluster vibrant by fostering an environment of collaboration for the numerous aerospace initiatives. MCCST Houston is proud to join these ranks and provide support to the NASA community at JSC!

International Space Station

The Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center (JSC) opened in the early 1960s and grew to become Mission Control for all U.S. manned space flight communications and control.

Today JSC is responsible for:

Managing the Space Shuttle, the International Space Station and the Constellation Program
Selecting and training the astronauts
Operating and communicating with the shuttle and space station
Directing extravehicular activities (EVAs)
Leading the advanced human support technology program
Conducting biomedical research
Providing space medicine

These programs are driven by services in information technology, computer services, safety and quality assurance, life sciences, and advanced and precision manufacturing. All are skills and technologies that are easily transferred to multiple commercial markets, like defense, homeland security, oil & gas and biotech.

Several major U.S. aerospace companies such as The Boeing Company, Lockheed Martin Corporation, Jacobs Engineering and United Space Alliance maintain a presence in Bay Area Houston to assist JSC in fulfilling its functions. JSC annually manages $4.0 billion in federal aerospace contracts.

MCCST Helps Pioneer New ANSYS-Spaceclaim Alliance

SpaceClaim

The MCCST analysis team was one of the first to use the ANSYS SpaceClaim 3D Direct Modeler which is designed to enable engineering and analysis teams to collaborate more efficiently by facilitating access to 3D models and data across the engineering team. As a customer-centric organization, McCormick Stevenson can take models created in any CAD system, import them into SpaceClaim seamlessly, and then prepare them for analysis work in ANSYS Workbench. By empowering our CAE team to create and edit CAD designs using direct modeling in SpaceClaim, we’re delivering optimized solutions without time-consuming interoperability issues. We can then provide more value to our customers and help them get products to market faster.

Dan Bennett, MCCST Advanced Engineer, and Chair of the Tampa Bay PTC/USER Group (TBPUG), recently organized a gathering of interested Pro/ENGINEER users at the Bay Harbor Hotel in Tampa. Mr. Tom McNaney, PTC Product Development Specialist, presented the new features of Pro/E Wildfire 4.0 & 5.0, as well as an overview of Product View 9.1.

Engineering with Duct Tape?

The staff at MCCST recently took time out to help the next generation of engineering super stars learn how to use the latest Pro/ENGINEER software to design the robots of the future. “Team Duct Tape” competes in the FIRST Tech Challenge – a remarkable “sport for the mind”. Successful Update of Colt Drawing Set

The McCormick Stevenson team successfully created 3-Dimensional solid models of the Colt Model XSE Rail Gun, converting a set of legacy paper drawings into modern Pro/ENGINEER CAD models and associated documentation. Through close interaction with the manufacturing team at Colt, this Model “O” design variant was brought into the modern era, ensuring easy and affordable data reuse for years to come!
