INCREASE YOUR 401(K) DEFERRAL NOW!

Increase by at least 1% or enroll in the plan by September 3rd and you will receive a multi-tool keychain from Strategic Financial Solutions!

Many Americans could — and should — do more to plan for retirement. In fact, less than half of workers report doing a retirement needs calculation. As a result, many workers are underestimating the amount they believe is needed to live comfortably in retirement. These are some of the findings of the national Retirement Confidence Survey*, which gauges Americans’ attitudes and behaviors toward saving, retirement planning and long-term financial security. According to the survey, 65 percent of Americans currently are saving for retirement. Unfortunately, 53 percent have saved less than $25,000.

Highlights
Other key findings include:
• 54% of workers are “very” or “somewhat” confident they will have enough to live comfortably during retirement.
• Today’s workers plan to stay on the job much longer than current retirees did, perhaps in part because nearly half of retirees say they retired earlier than planned.
• Most workers, or 72%, expect to do some work for pay during retirement. Only 34% of retirees surveyed have worked for pay since leaving their full-time jobs.
• Despite difficult economic times, 72% of workers made no change to the percentage of their salary they contribute to their employer’s retirement plan.
Survey respondents may be underestimating their retirement needs, with 47 percent indicating they will need less than $500,000 of retirement savings. One reason for this overly optimistic expectation may be that workers are not anticipating key retirement costs. Forty-six percent of workers indicated the amount they paid for health care expenses had increased from the previous year. In addition, 40 percent of retirees indicate they have spent more than expected on health care expenses in retirement.
Are you on track for your retirement?

Related to Cedar Rapids Honda and Iowa City Honda

Honda Motor Co. is recalling more than 428,000 vehicles in the United States and Canada because of a defect that could cause the cars to roll away if they are parked incorrectly. The Honda recall covers Accord, Civic and Element models from the 2003 and 2004 model years in the United States. That recall includes 384,220 vehicles.

That device is intended to keep drivers from removing their key from the ignition when the vehicle has not been put in park. If the ignition switch fails, that could allow vehicles to roll away when parked incorrectly, causing accidents.

In early 2009, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration upgraded its inquiry of the potential defect for the 2002 model year Accord, Honda’s best-selling vehicle. One woman said she had almost been run over by her car when it was parked in her driveway, accord to NHTSA records. Honda had two other recalls for related problems in 2003 and again in 2005, NHTSA records show.
