DOCTRINES NOT FOUND IN THE BIBLE

The following are teachings that are not found in the New Testament Bible.

1. The Virgin Mary lived a sinless life.

2. Men should pray the Rosary.

3. Transubstantiation.

4. Praying to Popes, the Virgin Mary and other dead saints.

5. Kissing the Popes feet.

6. Confession of sins to a priest.

7. Burning candles in the church building.

8. Baptizing infants for the remission of sins.

9. Baptizing anyone because they are guilty of Adam's sin.

10. Teaching that the Virgin Mary is co-redeemer with Jesus.

11. Purgatory.

12. That the apostle Peter was the first Pope.

13. That the Pope was given authority to change Scriptures.

14. The use of Holy Water.

15. A sacrificial Mass.

16. Sales of indulgences.

17. The bodily assumption of Mary.

18. Devotion to Mary is essential for salvation.

19. Church tradition voids Scripture.

20. Priests or pastors have the authority to forgive church members of their sins.

21. The church is the final authority for faith and practice. The Bible is not the final authority.

22. Infants are guilty of sin.

23. The Pope is the head of the church of Christ on earth.

24. Penance, a sacrament for forgiveness after baptism.

25. That the King James Version of the Bible is the only trustworthy translation of God's written word.

26. That Christians can continue living a sinful lifestyle and still be saved; because they are once saved always saved.

27. Under the New Covenant God chooses some men to be saved and all the others to burn in hell.

28. That water baptism is not essential for forgiveness from sin.

29. God says we are saved by grace alone; therefore we do not have to obey by believing in Jesus or being baptized in water.

30. That Saul was saved by simply believing in Jesus, on the road to Damascus.

31. Saying the sinner's prayer is God's terms for pardon.

32. There are many ways to heaven, Jesus is just one of many Saviors.

33. God will never send anyone to hell.

34. Jesus authorized many denominations; because He realized all men could not follow the Bible and the Bible alone.

When Will Jesus Return?

Matthew 24 is difficult: both difficult to interpret, and difficult to ignore. Although some details puzzle me (and I welcome your feedback), I am convinced that many people greatly abuse the clear parts. How can futurists justifiably push it all into our future? How can full preterists justifiably push it all into our past?

Jesus is talking about two totally separate events. Consider the contrasts He provides. Regarding the destruction of Jerusalem, Jesus foretold a clear sign of impending doom. As for the end of heaven and earth, Jesus said nobody knows when it will be.

The sign of Jerusalem's end was "the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel," to which the Holy Spirit adds, "(whoever reads, let him understand)" (Matthew 24:15). Luke offers the understanding: "When you shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh. Then let them which are in Judea flee" (21:20,21). Escape was offered.

In sharp contrast, Jesus said: "Heaven and earth shall pass away... but of that day and hour knows no man" (Matthew 24:35,36). I believe that both preterists and futurists empty these words of meaning. Preterists say the general time of Jerusalem's destruction was known, but not the exact day. Futurists say we know roughly when Jesus will return; we just don't know the exact day. They both miss how Jesus was contrasting two events.

Jesus gave them a precise sign so they would know exactly when to run for their lives to escape Jerusalem's doom. In contrast, no warning sign will be given of Jesus' return. "In such an hour as you think not the Son of man comes" (Matthew 24:44). From Matthew 24:35 thru 25:13, Jesus' theme is that we must always be ready because there is no way to know when He will return. No sign will allow unbelievers to quickly repent and escape doom.

KNOWING ONLY THE BAPTISMS OF DENOMINATIONS!

If men have been baptized knowing only the baptisms of denominations, are their baptisms valid. Do men, who are baptized for the wrong reason or baptize using the incorrect method, need to be baptized with Christian baptism in order for their sins to be forgiven, in order to be baptized into Christ, or in order to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit?

Apollos, a man who knew the Scriptures very well was teaching incorrect doctrine about New Covenant baptism. He needed to be taught the truth. (Acts 18:24-26...25 This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught accurately the things of the Lord, though he knew only the baptism of John. So he began to speak boldly in the synagogue. When Aquila and Priscilla heard him, they took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately.)

John's baptism was invalid after the Day of Pentecost.

Apollos had been preaching in Ephesus. The apostle Paul evidently came in contact with some of the disciples that were incorrectly taught by Apollos. (Acts 19:1-5 And it happened, while Apollos was at Corinth, that Paul, having passed to Ephesus. And finding some disciples 2 he said to them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?" And they said to him, "We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit." 3 And he said to them, "Into what then were you baptized?" So they said,"Into John's baptism." 4 Then Paul said, "John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe on Him who to come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus." 5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

The Ephesian disciples were re-baptized.

John's baptism was not a valid baptism after the Day of Pentecost. Those who were baptized with John's baptism after the day of Pentecost had to be re-baptized into Christ for the forgiveness of their sins and so that they might receive the gift of the Holy Spirit (that is the indwelling of the Holy Spirit).

KNOWING ONLY THE BAPTISMS OF DENOMINATIONS!

If men today are baptized knowing only the baptisms of denominations should they be re-baptized? If the disciples in Ephesus needed to be re-baptized, why then, would not those, today, who have been baptized for the wrong reason or by the incorrect method not need to be baptized in accordance with the teaching of Jesus and that commanded by the apostles?

1. Baptized as simple act of obedience is for the wrong reason.

2. Baptized as testimony of faith is for the wrong reason.

3. Being baptized, believing your sins have already been forgiven is for the wrong reason.

4. Being baptized so you can become a member of a denominational church is for the wrong reason.

5. Being baptized so original sin can be forgiven is for the wrong reason.

6. Being sprinkled or having water poured on you is the wrong method.

7. Baptizing infants is unnecessary. It is for the wrong reason.Sprinkling is also the wrong method.

8. Denying that baptism is essential for the forgiveness of sins is intellectually rejecting baptism. Denying the purpose of baptism, is baptism for the wrong reason.

Jesus said he who is baptized shall be saved. (Mark 16:16)

The apostle Peter said be baptized for the forgiveness of sins.(Acts 2:38)

The apostle Paul said we are baptized into Christ. (Galatians 3:27)

Peter said baptism saves us. (1 Peter 3:21)

Apollos believed the truth when taught by Aquila and Priscilla.

The Ephesus disciples believed the truth when taught by the apostle Paul.

Why do denominations not believe the truth when taught by Jesus and the apostles?

BAPTISMS THAT ARE CONTRARY TO SCRIPTURE ARE NOT VALID BAPTISMS.

THE SANCTUARY

Is there a sanctuary located in the local church building? No, the sanctuary is located in heaven. Hebrews 8:1-2 Now the main point in what has been said is this:we have such a high priest, who has taken His seat at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, 2 a minister in the sanctuary and in the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, not man.

There is a sanctuary and tabernacle, however, it is in heaven not on earth.

Under the old covenant there was and earthly sanctuary and tabernacle. Hebrews 9:1-3 Now even the first covenant and regulations of divine worship and the earthly sanctuary. 2 For there was a tabernacle prepared, the outer one, in which were the lampstand and the table and the sacred bread; this is called the holy place. 3. Behind the second veil there was a tabernacle which is called the Holy of Holies,

Under the new covenant there is not an earthly sanctuary, there is no earthly tabernacle. That ended when Jesus died on the cross. Matthew 27:45-53.....And behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two....

There is no longer an earthly sanctuary, no earthly tabernacle, no Holy of Holies on earth. The place we gather to worship on Sunday may be a worship center or an assembly hall, but it is not a sanctuary.

The only thing holy in the contemporary church buildings are the blood bought Christians who assemble there. Christians are holy because of the indwelling gift of the Holy Spirit.

THERE IS NO EARTHLY SANCTUARY!

The Most Unpopular Prophecy

Judging by sympathy cards, everyone goes to heaven when they die. Who likes to think about a loved one going to hell at death or after the end of the world? In popular culture, "hell" is a curse word used for emphasis. Many people believe that hell is here in this life: things like 9/11 or someone agonizing with cancer.

Unpopular or not, hell is a theme in Bible prophecy. God's Word says: "The fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone" (Rev. 21:8). Jesus said: "Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, you cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil" (Matt. 25:41).

Condemned to eternal fire? Would a just and loving God punish sinners in such a cruel manner? The truth is we mortals are not capable of answering that. God alone is the standard of love and justice. By ourselves we cannot know if there is a hell. Only God can tell us. This is why the study of Bible prophecy is so important. Seeing that God has always fulfilled His prophetic Word in the past assures us that He will fulfill it in the future.

Jesus said (Mark 16:16): "He that believes and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believes not shall be damned." That is prophecy! "Damn" is another word people use for lack of a good vocabulary. The truth is that none of us has the prerogative to damn anything or anybody. Only God does!

Jesus said (Matt 10:28): "Fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell." Unpopular though it be, every Scripture about hell is a prophecy we need to heed.

Nigerian ICT firms donate US$12.4m to victims of terrorist attack

Several major players in Nigeria’s ICT sector donated nearly US$12.4 million during a fundraiser in Abuja to the victims of terrorist activities in the country.

The country’s minister of communication technology Ombola Johnson donated US$6.2 million on behalf of the 10 technology firms in the country.
Ombola said the contribution is intended to provide some succour to the victims of the Boko Haram attacks. As an addition to the amount, Mike Adenuga, who is the chairman of mobile telecoms operator Globacom, donated US$6.2 million.
The contributions come shortly after President Goodluck Jonathan launched the Victims Support Funds Committee recently. Speaking during the event, Goodluck said the war against terror would be won, adding that “good will always prevail over evil.”
He later called on Nigerians with disposition to kindness and compassion to assist the victims of the attacks, reports the Technology Times.
Goodluck said:”Those who have been victims need comfort. They need succour. Their memories are scarred, come for the rest of their lives, over what they knew nothing about. The best we can do in this circumstance is to offer them a shoulder to lean on and to stretch out our hands of fellowship to them and to tell them we feel their pain and share their sorrows.”

Involve Women In Development Agendas, Urges Africa Development Bank President

During the official opening of the 3rd African Women’s Economic Empowerment Summit held last week in Lusaka, Zambia, the President of the African Development Bank, Donald Kaberuka, urged countries to involve women in their development agendas to spur economic growth in nations.
“We are working to establish targets that include gender in analysis, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation of all Bank-funded projects,” Kaberuka said, noting that AfDB intends to intensify gender mainstreaming in the Bank’s operations and in its regional economic and sector work.
In the previous year, the AfDB approved the US $125-million Africa Small and Medium Enterprise Programme to support SMEs in Africa. For this year’s summit whose theme was “African Women, Realising Africa’s Economic Potential”, Kaberuka stated that the Bank is expanding its investment services, including risk-sharing facilities, credit lines, loans, equity – products that can improve women’s access to finance.
“In Zambia, the AfDB developed the Zambia Small and Medium Enterprise Support Programme, which includes targeting women-owned SMEs as a priority. Through this programme, the Bank has supported two commercial banks in Zambia through lines of credit to provide financing to over 70 SMEs, along with training in financial and business skills,” Kaberuka said.
Also supporting Women empowerment, the founder of New Faces, New Voices, Graça Machel urged African women to form strong and strategic networks to enable them to influence change among policy-makers during the African Women’s Economic Empowerment Summit.
“We can positively improve the quality of the lives of our villages, communities and the rest of society when we have access to the right knowledge and support. Scaling up is now a reality,” she said.
While Women Empowerment is the next agenda, the African Development Bank currently finances various projects in Zambia worth about US $850 million, including the development of the Kazungula Bridge, Nacala Corridor, Nkana Water Supply and Sanitation Project, climate resilience programmes, the Global Agriculture and Food Security Program, and skills development, to mention a few.

The Future Africa Awards & Summit (TFAAS) has today released the Nominees List for 2014 for its 10 categories who will be hosted in Lagos July 31 by the Consul-General of US.
The list has five nominees per category and was prepared by the Central Working Committee (CWC) of The Future Africa Awards & Summit (TFAAS).
According to Mohamed Diaby, from Abidjan, who is a member of the CWC. “After last year’s process, where only the Young Person of the Year was Africa-wide, for the first time in the 9-year history of The Future Africa Awards, this is the first time that the entire awards have been drawn from across the continent.”

Microsoft sues Samsung for unpaid royalties

Microsoft is suing Samsung for unpaid royalties. Under the terms of their current agreement, the South Korean electronics maker is obligated to pay Microsoft for each Android smartphone it sells.
Microsoft alleges that Samsung defaulted on payment last fall, and is resisting to pay up any surcharges. The payment is part of a patent-sharing accord, which the two companies negotiated in 2011.
On his blog, Microsoft’s deputy general counsel David Howard stated they have spent months attempting to resolve the issue though Samsung has made it clear in a series of discussions and letters that the implications of the contract is the absolute bone of contention.
Samsung and Microsoft agreed in September 2011 to permit access to each other’s patents. They however never issued the terms of the deal and Microsoft’s complaint edited all the dollar figures. Rick Sherlund, Nomura Securities’ telecom analyst, approximated that Microsoft makes $2 billion per year on patent royalties related to devices that run on Google’s Android operating system designed by Samsung and other companies.

350 disabled youth to benefit from Uganda’s KiBO IT Programme

Uganda-based social enterprise KiBO Foundation has initiated an IT programme in Entebbe targeted at assisting young disabled persons to achieve IT skills.

KiBO hopes the programme will benefit more than 350 youth within the municipal. According to the foundation, the move will bring change by delivering relevant content to the youth to impart entrepreneurship and leadership skills.
KiBO’s managing director Abraham Temu said the objective of the programme is to enable people with hearing difficulties to achieve critical IT knowledge to make them fit for the job market.
“KiBO Foundation, Entebbe Municipality and Cisco, a global IT company, launched officially CKC (Community Knowledge Centre) to give members of rural communities, especially the deaf, access to technology, to enable them look for jobs, gain education, raise their financial self-sufficiency and start businesses,
“The Entebbe CKC, which was started two years ago, has so far trained hundreds of community members including teachers and the youth, who are afterwards honoured with certificates as accomplishment,” Temu said.
According to Temu, the programme will act as a demonstration centre where the young people will access the “best technology in the world” unlike the present condition where students find it difficult to research due to lack of information centres.
The programme is part of Cisco’s commitment to give disadvantaged groups in Africa useful technology and content.
“By engaging municipalities in developing plans that affect the young people in challenging their mindsets, we trust that this will open their minds to becoming great thinkers as well as pillars of change within their communities,” said Temu.
In 2013, Cisco sponsored six CKCs across Uganda, including Ntungamo, Nebbi, Entebbe, Ngora, Lira and Gulu districts. Similar centres have been established all over Africa to enable rural communities easily access Information Communications Technology.

The End of Prophecy

Why do all Bibles end with the book of Revelation? Although some sects consider more recent writings to be inspired, yet nobody has dared to add such writings to the Bible. Why not? It must be that deep down, they know that the apostolic writings are in a class by themselves. And they are. The Holy Spirit exhorts us to "contend for the faith which was once delivered" (Jude 3). From the start of the church, they "continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine" (Acts 2:42). Why? Because Jesus had promised the apostles that "when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth" (John 16:13).

All truth. Therefore, when all the apostles were dead, there was no more truth to be revealed, no more books worthy of being considered Scripture. Catholics and Protestants debate about which books should be included in the OT, but all agree upon the 27 books of the NT. John wrote the final five inspired books.

Indeed, the apostle Paul had predicted that finality. In the great love chapter, 1 Cor. 13, the Holy Spirit predicted: "Whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away” (13:8).

Some sincerely ask, “Has knowledge passed away?” No, of course not. However, 1 Cor. 12, 13, and 14 are discussing the nine inspired spiritual gifts (charisma) in the infant church. Prophecies, tongues, and knowledge are three of the nine listed in 12:8-10. Inspired knowledge, as one of the nine spiritual gifts, was to vanish away. The same is true of prophecy. Prophecies exist today -- the written prophecies made in the first century (and before). We have no new inspired knowledge today, no new prophecies. Our 27 NT books contain it all.

Some of the language in 1 Cor. 13 can give the impression that these three gifts, representing the nine, would be done away at the Second Coming. A major reason why that interpretation is difficult for me to accept is what the text says about faith and hope: “And now abide faith, hope, love." We can all agree that love is not only the greatest, as Paul also says, but that it is also eternal. Not so with faith and hope. Consider:

FAIL, CEASE, VANISH (being in part) -- Prophecies, Tongues, Knowledge.

NOW ABIDE (until Jesus comes) -- Faith, Hope.

ETERNAL (and greatest) -- Love.

Three things fail, cease, vanish. Three things now abide. How long do faith and hope abide? Until the end of the world. Heb. 11:1 says that faith is "the evidence of things not seen." 2 Cor. 5:7 says, "We walk by faith, not by sight." 1 John 3:2 says, "When he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is." In glory we will see Him! No more faith. It will be sight! And what of hope? Rom. 8:24 clarifies: "Hope that is seen is not hope: for who hopes for that which he sees?" Paul is saying that in this world, prophecy, tongues, and knowledge are temporary, faith and hope are permanent, and love trumps them all.

Since faith and hope "abide" until Jesus comes, the ceasing of prophecies, tongues, and knowledge must take place before that. When? Paul did not specify a date. Rather, he indicated a condition. "For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away" (13:9-10). The Greek for "perfect" here (teleios) may be translated "finished, complete, or perfect." Since "in part" is contrasted to "teleios," it would seem that "complete" or "finished" would be a better translation than "perfect." Knowledge and prophecy were complete with the final writings of John; thus the temporary "in part" gifts of knowledge and prophecy were done away, no longer needed.

Does "face to face" in verse 12 refer to seeing God in heaven after the Second Coming? Aside from this verse, "face to face" in the NT is only used of human relationships. In the OT, "face to face" seven times describes relations between God and man. Since Jesus said "No man has seen God at any time" (John1:18), the term "face to face" could not mean to actually see God. These OT texts all tell of some intimate relationship with God in the here and now, not in eternity. Thus, "face to face" in 1 Cor. 13 would seem to mean an intimate relationship with God through His completed Word.

1 Cor. 13:11 contrasts a child with a man. Does not Scripture frequently teach us to grow beyond childhood toward maturity in this life? Notice one such contrast in 14:20: "in malice be children, but in understanding be men (teleios)." Other versions render "teleios" here as "mature." This is the same Greek word as "perfect" in 13:10. In 13:9-11 we can see the young church with its partial temporary gifts contrasted with a mature church having the finalized Holy Scriptures, which offer God's completed message to us. The gift of prophecy came to an end in the first century. The Bible contains all there is of God's inspired prophecy for us today

GROW A MEGA CHURCH

If growing a mega-church is high on your dream list, then here is the template. Think "seeker friendly."

THE DO'S: Preach a health and wealth gospel. Keep sermons light and cheerful, and promote self esteem. If the message would be well received in the secular world, you are on the right track. Try to be inclusive. After all, we are all striving to get to the same place. Smile a lot. Canvas the area of your choice. Then preach what they want to hear. Watch the numbers grow. When preaching about salvation, quote John 3:16 and ask them to recite some version of the "sinner's prayer." Faith only salvation, usually will poll very well in any community. Stay with the popular man-made traditions.

THE DON'TS: Forget sermons about the need for repentance or the existence of hell. Do not, I repeat, not not mention the word "sin," that can thin a crowd in a hurry. Scriptures you might want to avoid, Acts 2:38, Mark16:16, John 3:5, Romans 6:1, Ephesians 5:3-5, 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 and Galatians 5:19-21, to name a few. Requirements for forgiveness should be something the congregation would feel comfortable with. Do not teach repentance as being mandatory, make it an option. Explain how we are all sinner's saved by grace. That makes unrepentant Christians more likely to place their membership in your church. Then sit back and watch the church grow.

Let us examine a couple of preachers to see if they fit the "seeker friendly" template.

JOHN THE BAPTIST: Matthew 14:3-4 For when Herod had John arrested, he bound him and put him in prison because of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip. 4 For John had been saying to him,"It is not lawful for you to have her."

Not seeker friendly, too legalistic. Never preach against sin that a prominent member of the community is committing.

STEPHEN: Acts 7:51-53 "You men who are stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears are always resisting the Holy Spirit; you are doing just as your fathers did.......

Stephen was not seeker friendly. Never point out bad attitudes, that would expose the congregation's Spiritual condition, and certainly not if it relates to church family members.

WOULD JESUS FIT THE SEEKER FRIENDLY TEMPLATE? Seeker friendly preachers do not get put to death, on a cross.

TRUST GOD OR NOT?

When Christians are ask if they trust God; most would respond in the affirmative. Do Christians really believe God is trustworthy?

How do Christian respond when asked, do they believe the Bible to be the inerrant word of God? For many, the trust, in God starts to wane at this point. An all too common reply, is of course the Bible is God's word, however, the Scriptures were recorded and translated into other languages my mere men. We know men make mistakes.

What is is mystifying to me is how believers in Christ can proclaim that they believe God created the heavens and the earth, but do not believe God has the power to direct men to record and translate His word without error. Would that be a God you could trust?

Matthew 4:4 But He answered and said, "It is written, 'Man shall not live on bread alone , but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.'" (NASB)

Jesus said men should live on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. How would that be possible if the Bible is not the infallible word of God?

1 John 2:3 By this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments.(NASB)

John said we know Jesus if we keep His commandments. If the Bible is not God's incontrovertible truth, how can we know we are keeping the commandments of Jesus?

THE GOD I WORSHIP HAS THE POWER TO PRODUCE A BIBLE THAT IS INERRANT, FACTUAL,
INFALLIBLE, FREE FROM ERROR, LITERAL IN HISTORICAL ACCURACY, TRANSLATED CORRECTLY, AND YES, INSPIRED BY GOD HIMSELF.

There those who agree that the Bible is the inerrant word of God but then state that you have to be a Greek, Hebrew, and Aramaic scholar to understand the meaning of Scripture.

In order to understand the Bible you have to understand whatever langauge translation you are reading. If English is your first language then you should use an English translation, if German is your primary language then read a German translation, if you are Greek then read a Greek translation etc.

It is not ironic that they do not believe you have be a Greek, Hebrew, and Aramaic scholar to under Joshua 10:13, however, in order to understand Acts 2:38 you have be not only have to be a Greek, Hebrew, and Aramaic scholar, but an English professor as well.

Joshua 10:13 So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, Until the nation avenged themselves of their enemies.

The "scholar police" accept Joshua 10:13 at face value; as well they should.

The "scholar police" believe you have to be a Greek scholar and an English professor to understand Acts 2:38.
The "scholar police" have an agenda. There goal is to convince the world that water baptism is not essential to have sins forgiven

Acts 2:38 Peter replied "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins may be forgiven. and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.(The Thompson Chain -Reference Bible NIV)

You do not have to be a Greek scholar or an English professor to understand what "so that your sins may be forgiven" means.

Acts 2:38 Peter told them, "you must repent and every one of you must be baptised in the name of Jesus , so that you may have your sins forgiven and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.(The New Testament in Modern English by J. B. Phillips)

If you have a fifth grade reading level you are capable of understand the meaning of "so that you may have your sins forgiven."

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Let each one of you repent and be immersed, in the name of Jesus Christ, in order to the remission of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (The Better Version of The New Testament by Chester Estes)

"In order to the remission of sins" means the same thing whether you are a Greek scholar, a professor in English or a novice Christian.

Acts 2:38 Peter said to them, "Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.(NASB)

It does not matter if you are a Greek scholar, or an English professor; "for the forgiveness or your sins" means exactly what it says.

DO NOT LET THE "SCHOLAR POLICE" CONVINCE YOU, THAT ONLY AN ELITE FEW CAN UNDERSTAND THE BIBLE.

CONTRARY TO THE "SCHOLAR POLICE" WATER BAPTISM IS ESSENTIAL TO HAVE YOUR SINS FORGIVEN!

THE ANTI FREE-WILL CROWD

The anti free-will crowd is alive and well in the world today. Their position is the those selected for salvation have no free-will. That they are predestined to receive unconditional, irresistible grace, and that it can never be forfeited.

The anti free-will crowd believe that those not selected for salvation do have the free-will to sin and spend eternity in hell.

The anti free-will position is not only not a Scriptural concept; it is also illogical.

POINT ONE: If God does not select you for salvation then you have the free-will to:
murder
engage in fornication
be a drunkard
be a homosexual
be an adulterer
be a thief
be a swindler
be an idolater
be a covetous person
be involved in sorcery
be a robber
be a prostitute
be a Satan worshiper

However, the anti free-will crowd says those selected for hell do not have the free-will to accept God's free gift of salvation and be saved.

POINT TWO: The anti free-will crowd believe if God selects you for salvation, all you have do is wait for God to saved you. They believe God forces "the selected" to have faith and be saved.

POINT THREE: They believe that no man can seek God.

ALL men can seek God. (Hebrews 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.)

The writer of Hebrews says that all who come to God must believe that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him. If I were a anti free-will advocate I would be more than a little concerned about my belief.

ALL MEN HAVE GOD'S GRACE AVAILABLE TO THEM.John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.

CHRISTIAN BOOKS?

What should be the source for learning how to become a Christian and living the Christian life. Should it be books written by men who pervert the gospel plan of salvation or distort the historical facts of the Bible? Would it be not better to use a book you can that you can trust; the "BIBLE" and the Bible alone?

Can you imagine the apostle Paul recommending that Christians read the book "How To Live A Purposeful Christian Life" By the Judaizers.

Can you envision the apostle Peter recommending that Christians add the book written by Hymenaeus and Philetus to their library? "How To Have a God Centered Marriage" by Hymenaeus and Philetus.

BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE: 2 Timothy 2:16-18.....Hymenaeus and Philetus. 18 men who have gone astray from the truth saying that the resurrection has already taken place, and they upset the faith of some.

Contemporary believers in Christ seem to believe that reading books written by men who pervert the gospel of Christ, believe the Bible is untrustworthy, deny certain basic truths found in Scripture, and explain away water baptism saying it is not essential for salvation; are good examples and sources for spiritual instruction.

Should modern day Judiazers, or men like Hymenaeus and Philetus, be the source for spiritual truth and guidance?

THE BIBLE ALONE SHOULD BE THE SOURCE FOR TRUTH AND SPIRITUAL INSTRUCTION!

MODERN DAY-APOSTLES?

Some claim that there are apostles alive and well, living among us. Is that fact or fiction?

QUESTION: What purpose would modern day apostles serve?

QUESTION: If there are apostles today, why do they not mirror the acts of the apostles of the first century?

Acts 2:43 Everyone kept feeling a sense of awe; and many wonders and signs were taking place through the apostles.

Are people being filled with awe by the so-called modern day apostles? If that were true it would be on every TV network. It would dominate the cable TV channels. The Internet would flooded with accounts of these so-called modern day apostles.

ACTS OF THE FIRST CENTURY APOSTLES

The apostle Paul cause the magician Elymas to be temporarily blinded.(Acts 13:8-12)

Are the so-called contemporary apostles causing men to go blind? No.

The apostle Peter brought Tabitha back from the dead. (Acts 9:36-41)

Are the 21 century pretend-apostles bring people back from the dead? No. If they could bring men back from the dead they would invite TV crews into funeral homes, to witness their miracles.

The apostle Peter predicted the immediate death of Sapphira. (Acts 5:1-11)

Can the false modern day apostles predict the immediate death of people who lie to God? Of course they cannot.

The apostle Peter immediately healed a lame man who had been lame from birth. (Acts 3:1-10)

If these so-call modern day apostles could heal men who were lame from birth it would on every, nightly, TV news broadcast.

THE SIGNS OF AN APOSTLE

2 Corinthians 12:12 The signs of a true apostle were performed among you with all perseverance, by signs and wonders and miracles.

The so-called modern day apostles are missing the signs of a true apostle. Be careful not to get detoured down the wrong road by following false sign makers.

WE DO NOT NEED SO-CALLED MODERN DAY APOSTLES!

We have the completed Bible. We have all the information we
need for salvation and living the Christian life. God's word was confirmed by Jesus and the apostles of the first century.

2 Timothy 3:15-17 and from childhood you have know the scared writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17 so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.

By A.D. 100 men had all the Scripture they needed for salvation and living the Christian life.

WE HAVE THE RECORDED WORD OF GOD. THE BIBLE.

WE DO NOT NEED SO-CALLED MODERN DAY APOSTLES!

IS GOD'S WORD TRUSTWORTHY?

Is God's word trustworthy or is it filled with falsehoods and mistranslations? Jesus admonished the Sadducees for not understanding the Scriptures. (Matthew 22:29) Why would Jesus hold the Sadducees accountable for understanding the Scriptures is if God's written word can not be trusted to be accurate?

Men believe that God created the heavens and the earth, however, they do not believe God is smart enough to give men a Bible that is without errors.

Believers in Christ agree the God parted the Red Sea so the Israelites could flee to safety, however, many proclaim God cannot preserve the Scriptures without errors.

Those who believe in God admit that He destroyed the world by a great floods, saving only Noah and the inhabitants of the ark, however, they deny that God has the power to insure that the Bible has been translated infallibly.

Christians believe that Jesus was resurrected from the dead by the power of God, however, they doubt that God can give us a Bible that is trustworthy, without error, the truth and nothing but the truth.

How ironic, that the same people the claim that the Bible has been mistranslated, not trustworthy or needs additional revelation to be completed; but put their complete trust in Bible commentaries, creed books, catechisms, statements of faith, books about the Bible, and so-called books of new revelations from God.

HOW COULD IT BE POSSIBLE FOR A GOD WHO IS OMNIPOTENT, OMNISCIENT, AND OMNIPRESENT TO BE UNABLE TO GIVE US AN INERRANT BIBLE?

THE KINGDOM IS NOW

Is the kingdom of heaven now or at some future time? The answer is both. The church is the kingdom on earth but there will be an eternal kingdom at the end of time.

Notice : The term "kingdom of God and "kingdom of heaven" are used interchangeably.

Matthew 3:1-2 Now in those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, saying, 2 "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."

John said the kingdom was at hand. He was not referring to the end of time.

Mark 1:14-15 Now after John had been taken into custody, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of God, 15 and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel."

JESUS SAID THE KINGDOM WAS AT HAND.

Luke 9:27 But I say to you truthfully, there are some of those standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God."

Jesus said some would not taste death before the kingdom of God arrived. Why? Because Jesus was taking about His church which came into being on the Day of Pentecost.

Matthew 16:18-19 I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it. 19 I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven....

Jesus made it clear that Peter would have the keys to the kingdom of heaven on earth (the church of Christ).They were the same keys to enter the eternal kingdom of heaven.

THE EARTHLY KINGDOM OF HEAVEN ARRIVED ON THE DAY OF PENTECOST. THAT WAS THE BIRTH OF THE CHURCH OF CHRIST. THEY WERE ONE AND THE SAME!

Peter used those keys in the 2nd chapter of Acts. Peter preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. When they believed Peter's preaching they ask what they should do. Peter said: Acts 2:38 ...."Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

NOTICE, WHAT PETER SAID WERE THE REQUIREMENTS TO ENTER THE KINGDOM OF GOD (THE CHURCH OF CHRIST) AND WHAT JESUS SAID ARE IN AGREEMENT.

JESUS SAID: Mark 1:15 "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel."

Jesus said belief and repentance are essential to enter the kingdom of God. (His church of earth).

PETER PREACHED THE GOSPEL: (ACTS 2:22-36)

JESUS SAID: John 3:5 Jesus answered and said to him, "Truly,truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter the kingdom of God.

Jesus said unless you are born of the water (baptism) and the Spirit you cannot enter the kingdom of God (which is the church of Christ).

The apostle Peter links belief in Jesus, repentance, water baptism, and receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit to entry into the kingdom of God. JESUS DID THE SAME.

You have to be a member of the church of Christ on earth, (THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN ON EARTH) in order to to become a member of God's eternal kingdom.

Acts 2:41,47 So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and that day there were added about three thousand souls. 47 .....And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved.

They were only added to the church of Christ after they believed Peter's preaching of the gospel and were baptized in water. The Lord was adding the saved to His church.

THE KINGDOM GOD ON EARTH, THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN OF EARTH, AND THE CHURCH OF CHRIST ON EARTH ARE ONE AND THE SAME. YOU ARE EITHER A MEMBER OF ALL OF THEM OR NONE OF THEM.

SAVED LIKE THE PARALYTIC?

The proponents of "FAITH ONLY" salvation like to present the paralytic as an example of one who had his sins forgiven without being baptized in water. Their position is, since Jesus forgave the paralytic without being immersed in water; so then, baptism is not essential, for those living today, in order to have sins forgiven.

PARALYTIC SALVATION: Luke 5:18-20 And some men were carrying on a bed a man who was paralyzed; and they were trying to bring him in and set him him down in front of Him. 19 But not finding any way to bring him in because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and let him down through the tiles with his stretcher, into the middle of the crowd, in front of Jesus . 20 Seeing their faith , He said , "Friend, your sins are forgiven."

PARALYTIC SALVATION: Jesus forgave his sin because of the faith of friends.

Can men today be saved like the paralytic? No, they cannot!

The paralytic was saved without FAITH.

The paralytic was saved without REPENTANCE.

The paralytic was saved without CONFESSING Jesus as the Son of God.

The paralytic was saved without being BAPTIZED.

The paralytic was saved without BELIEVING that God raised Jesus from the dead.

The paralytic was saved without CONFESSING Jesus as Lord and Christ.

THE PARALYTIC PLAN OF SALVATION WAS- THE FAITH OF FRIENDS.

The paralytic was saved before the New Covenant was in force. Jesus had to die before the New Covenant was available.

Men today have to meet the terms of the New Agreement, that is the New Covenant.

NEW COVENANT: Hebrews 9:15-17 For this reason He is the mediator of a new covenant, so that, since a death has taken place for the redemption of the transgressions that were committed under the first covenant, those who have been called may receive the promise of eternal inheritance. 16 For were a covenant is, there must of necessity be the death of the one made it. 17 For a covenant is valid only when men are dead, for it is never in force while the one who lives made it.

The apostle Peter told all men how to be saved under the New Covenant. (Acts 2:22-41) A.D. 33 The Day of Pentecost.

New Covenant terms of pardon.

FAITH: John 3:16

REPENTANCE: Acts 2:38, Acts 3:19, Luke 24:47

CONFESSION: Romans 10:9-10, Acts 8:37

BAPTISM: Acts 2:38, Mark 16:16, 1 Peter 3:21, Acts 22:16, Colossians 2:12-13, Titus 3:5, John 3:5, Galatians 3:27, Romans 6:3-7

Was the paralytic saved? Yes, so was the thief on the cross, Enoch, Abraham, and many others before the New Covenant was in force, however, it was the blood of Jesus that washed away the sins of those who died under the Old Covenant.

IF MEN TODAY CAN HAVE THEIR SIN FORGIVEN LIKE THE PARALYTIC-----THEN THEY CAN BE SAVED WITH FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST. HE WAS SAVED BECAUSE OF THE FAITH OF FRIENDS!
