Veronica held her glass in one hand while balancing the rest of the things she held in the other and had her ereader under her arm. Carefully she made her way into the living room to the couch. She put everything down then grabbed her ereader from under her arm. Smiling she sat on the couch and grabbed the remote before turning on the television. Finding a movie, she settled in against the couch as she opened her ereader. Soon she was caught up in the story she had started earlier that day.

“What are you reading?”

Veronica jumped and let out a little shriek then took a breath before she spoke. “Dammit you scared the crap out of me.” She glared at the man who had just appeared beside her. “Didn’t I tell you about people calling or knocking first before just waltzing in. What are you doing here? I thought you were working at the club today.”

“People.” Zayne smiled his icy green eyes twinkling. “I’m not people. I’m the love of your life —your human one and beyond.”

“Oh, love of my life. “Veronica resisted rolling her eyes. “You still haven’t answered my question. Also, that look in your eye which makes me know you’re up to no good is making me nervous. You’re not convincing me to go anywhere. My plan is to stay here relax, read, and watch cheesy sci-fi movies.”

“That’s my plan too. It’s why I got someone to cover my shift.” Zayne moved closer to her and put his arm around her drawing her against his side.

Veronica snuggled in against him and smiled. “Great.”

“Although —“

“No, no trying to convince me to do something else. “ Veronica glared at him. “Last time it took some help from a…I don’t even know what the hell they were since you wouldn’t tell me to get all that magical crap off me. “

“That wasn’t my fault.” Zayne bit his lip.

“Don’t think I can’t tell you want to laugh at me.”

“With you.” Zayne smiled widely.

“That would work if I was laughing. I wasn’t at the time and I’m not at this time either.” Veronica focused back on her ereader. “You’re not going to entice me to join in some of one of your real-life paranormal adventures. If I knew this is what I’d get getting involved with an other being I’d have thought about falling for you more carefully. “

Zayne laughed. Veronica knew he didn’t believe her which he was right to do. It wouldn’t have mattered whatever his genetics were. The man had caught her from the very moment their eyes met. Zayne didn’t say anything else just relaxed against her. Veronica knew he was waiting for her to cave, but she wasn’t going to this time. Suddenly the image on the TV changed.

“I didn’t hear a knock or a call.” She leaned forward and glared at the TV.

“I’m technically not in your house. I’m in the TV.” The man smiled that infuriating grin. “Aren’t you coming for your training Veronica?”

“Training.” Veronica glanced at Zayne. “What’s your brother talking about?”

“He’s volunteered to train you in some of our Htrae Elves warrior ways.” Zayne shrugged. “He said it’s his early continual wedding gift to you.” Zayne scowled. “Said some rude shit about since you were marrying his retired brother who obviously isn’t as strong as when he was an active warrior he’d train you so you could protect us.”

Veronica fought not to laugh. Zayne sounded very put out. “He’s so wrong. You’ve been showing me some stuff.”

“Pash. I’m a better warrior.” Raphian said arrogantly.

“I’m having a feeling this isn’t the first time he’s said that to you.” Veronica said to Zayne. “I hope you kicked his ass whenever he does.”

Zayne smiled said all she needed to know. She was so proud. Then she thought of who his brother was.

“Are you allowed to kick the ass of the Htrae Elves King?”

“When he’s being an ass you are.” Zayne glared at the TV.

“So, he gets his ass kicked often then.” Veronica said.

“Maybe.” Zayne laughed.

“I’m hurt Veronica. I thought you loved me your favorite future family member and brother-in-law.” Raphian pouted.

“I know better than saying any of you are my favorite future family member. If I was stupid enough to do that whoever it is would tease the others with it and I’d get no peace.” She sighed then said. “Not like I get that now anyway. Zayne you have way too much family. Anyway, future brother-in-law I’m not gonna fall for that look.” Veronica rolled her eyes. “Zayne your family is so dramatic.”

“Yes.”

“And so are you.”

“Yes.” Zayne replied.

He was so shameless. Veronica looked between him and his brother.

“I’m wondering why all of a sudden your brother is volunteering to teach me stuff.”

Zayne studied his nails. Veronica thought of the last time Zayne had showed her the fighting ways of the Htrae Elves. She leaned back and laughed. Zayne glanced at her and wiggled his eyebrows. He was setting his brother up to get teased.

“What’s so funny?” Raphian said suspiciously.

Veronica didn’t reply. He’d see for himself.

“Promise me that I won’t have to go through any weird stuff after this latest adventure.”

He lifted an eyebrow. Veronica realized what she said. Zayne not being human had long stopped being weird. It was just who he was.

“If there is any weird stuff Raphian will take care of it.”

“Of course.” Raphian shrugged a graceful movement. “And anytime that one convinces you to do something, and you need help with weird stuff just call me.”

“He gave me hell for contacting…” Zayne looked at his brother a wicked smile on his face. “you know who should remain nameless in his presence.”

Veronica was curious on the look on Raphian’s face. She made a mental note to ask the person who helped them about it.

“Some people would be grateful for such an awesome early wedding gift. One that is continuous.” Raphian crossed his arms over his chest.

“One would be if that supposed gift wasn’t to irritate her husband to be.” Veronica smiled.

“I don’t like that smile Veronica.” Raphian glared at Zayne. “What are you up too?”

Zayne snickered then teased him about something else to deflect his suspicion. As the brothers teased each other Veronica was so amused. She knew that Zayne was looking forward to her getting past Raphian’s powers and landing a blow. She’d shocked the hell out of him when she had done that the last time they trained. Heck she was shocked herself. Since then, they had figured out what happened. She’d adapted the training to herself thus making it different. Zayne had been making the training geared toward a human. After that incident he stopped that and just trained her the way he would one of his kind. Now they’d see if that worked on Raphian too. Well…maybe it’d take some time to since with Zayne it had taken a while before he being able to get through and land a blow that happened.

“Let’s go.” Veronica interrupted.

Zayne rose and held out his hand. She put her hand into his. He pulled her up and she leaned into him. They kissed gently.

“When you said you couldn’t wait for the rest of our lives together, I didn’t expect this.”

“We’re gonna have lots of adventures together.” Zayne said. “And don’t forget the tons and tons of sex.”

“Yes.”

“Ewww…I don’t need to know about that.” Raphian said.

Veronica ignored him. “Here’s to our mischief adventures.”

“Ohhh… you’re naming it. I love that name.” Zayne cupped her cheek. “Mischief adventures it is. And next time you won’t try to act like you don’t want to go.”

“But that’s the fun part. You’re trying to convince me.” Veronica shivered as she remembered one of his inventive ways of convincing her.

“No sex. I’m not waiting around for you all to have sex.” Raphian stated firmly.

“After.” Zayne said. “When you’re all sweaty and revved up.”

Veronica smiled. She couldn’t wait. “Let go on our latest Mischief Adventures.”

Zayne led her to the TV. Veronica held his hand as they went to get started with their next mischief adventures.
