Are you carving a pumpkin this Halloween? If so, follow these simple steps.

• Find Your Pumpkin: Visit a local distributor, and select a pumpkin that’s right for you. Try to find a nice, round and smooth pumpkin. Avoid pumpkins with soft spots, splotches or mold.
• Get the Tools: Many retailers provide pumpkin carving kits that contain various utensils. Using these tools are much safer and easier to work with than kitchen knives.
• Select a Template: Although many pumpkin carving kits come with templates, you can also look online for the template you want. All you have to do is print it out, apply it to the pumpkin and hold in place with tacks or thumbnails.
• Start Carving: After you’ve cleaned the pumpkin out and carved your design, create an angled hole at the top where you can open the pumpkin and place a candle.
• Happy Halloween: Now you’re ready to display your pumpkin on your porch, or apartment patio to help spread the holiday spirit!

If you want to make your one bedroom Humble apartment into a fun Halloween residence, use these decorating ideas to impress your visitors.

• String Halloween Lights: These lights are readily available in party, discount and drug stores. In between small lights, add bigger ones with ghosts, vampires or pirates.  Drape them around the doorway and windows to greet your guests.
• Use Autumn Colors:  Arrange miniature pumpkins along with sunflowers or marigolds among some leaves. Hang a swag or wreath of orange, yellow and red flowers. Buy paper plates, cups and napkins in these colors or, better yet, with Halloween designs.
• Arrange a Gift Basket:  If you can’t afford to give each guest their own basket, have them pick from a large choice of horror movie CDs, fun size candy bars and novelty items such as skulls, pirate accessories, vampire teeth, ghost capes or a miniature witch’s broom.

Ever notice how time always seems to creep up on you when there’s a celebration to be had? Here are three tips to help you decorate your two bath Humble apartment for your next Halloween party.

• Spiders: These insects have the biggest fright factor. You can stick them all over your bathroom. With their life like colors and patterns, you’ll keep everyone guessing and jumping!
• Skeletons: Lay a skeleton in your bath with its arm hanging over the edge, and stand the other one up against the shower door to give everyone a fright.
• Glow-in-the-Dark Eyes: After the spiders and skeletons, put some glow-in-the-dark eyeballs on the surface of your sink facing your bathroom exit. When people switch the light off, they’ll feel the eyes glowing on them.

Don’t let doing laundry be a constant source of confusion in your life. Here are the answers to three of your most commonly asked laundry questions.

What’s the best way to remove the chlorine odor from a swimsuit?
Fill a sink with cold water and pour in a cup of swimsuit cleaner. Swish the suit around for a few minutes. Roll the excess water out on a towel and lay the swimsuit flat to dry.

Should new clothes be washed before the first wear?
Yes. Dyes and additives can cause contact dermatitis and other skin irritations. In addition, it’s possible to catch an infection from a person who tried on something before you bought them.

What’s the best way to wash a comforter?
Toss your comforter in a machine at our Humble apartments’ clothes care facilities. Check the care label to determine the best water temperature and detergent to use. Dry the comforter on a low heat setting, and add fluffer rings or tennis balls to the dryer to help fluff the comforter.

For a family-friendly, fall outing, head to a nearby pumpkin patch. It’s a great way to enjoy the autumn weather, while the kids run, jump and play. If you’re looking for a pumpkin patch in Spring, the Olde Time Christmas Tree Farm has everything you need.

There are plenty of fun activities for the kids, including a train, jump house, obstacle course and giant slide. Expect to see a large variety of pumpkins in all sizes, shapes and colors. These activities require a ticket purchase.
