what we say without speaking can say a lot more than verbal articulation. body language are those actions that speak louder than words and most often times speak more truth than the words that come out of someone’s mouth.

when it comes to body language and dating you would be surprised how much more you can interpret through your date’s movements. i thought the piece that cosmopolitan published on body language was a light introduction of what to lookout for……..you may not wanna walk away with him after the cheque is paid. wink*

when I think about Valentines Day I naturally picture boxes of heart shaped chocolate, dozens of red roses, guys bending down on one knee. i have never really taken the time to look up the history of valentines day apart from knowing it stemmed from the celebration of some saint in history. today a marketing gimmick, valentines day is more about spending money and let’s be honest businesses feed us and sell us the notion we are the ones that eat it up. i could go on for days about my idea to 365 “valentines” in relationships, but for now i’m going to remain on the boring quest of knowledge pertaining to this modern day celebration we call Valentines Day.

here’s some background and history….

In the 1969 revision of the Roman Catholic Calendar of Saints, the feast day of Saint Valentine on February 14 was removed from the General Roman Calendar and relegated to particular (local or even national) calendars for the following reason: “Though the memorial of Saint Valentine is ancient, it is left to particular calendars, since, apart from his name, nothing is known of Saint Valentine except that he was buried on the Via Flaminia on February 14.”[15] The feast day is still celebrated in Balzan (Malta) where relics of the saint are claimed to be found, and also throughout the world by Traditionalist Catholics who follow the older, pre-Second Vatican Council calendar. February 14 is also celebrated as St Valentine’s Day in other Christian denominations; it has, for example, the rank of ‘commemoration’ in the calendar of the Church of England and other parts of the Anglican Communion.

The Early Medieval acta of either Saint Valentine were expounded briefly in Legenda Aurea.[17] According to that version, St Valentine was persecuted as a Christian and interrogated by Roman Emperor Claudius II in person. Claudius was impressed by Valentine and had a discussion with him, attempting to get him to convert to Roman paganism in order to save his life. Valentine refused and tried to convert Claudius to Christianity instead. Because of this, he was executed. Before his execution, he is reported to have performed a miracle by healing the blind daughter of his jailer.

Since Legenda Aurea still provided no connections whatsoever with sentimental love, appropriate lore has been embroidered in modern times to portray Valentine as a priest who refused an unattested law attributed to Roman Emperor Claudius II, allegedly ordering that young men remain single. The Emperor supposedly did this to grow his army, believing that married men did not make for good soldiers. The priest Valentine, however, secretly performed marriage ceremonies for young men. When Claudius found out about this, he had Valentine arrested and thrown in jail.

There is an additional modern embellishment to The Golden Legend, provided by American Greetings to History.com, and widely repeated despite having no historical basis whatsoever. On the evening before Valentine was to be executed, he would have written the first “valentine” card himself, addressed to the blind daughter of his jailor Asterius, signing as “From your Valentine.”

voila! now you know! : D

i’m an avid reader of Psychology today. we live in a world full of clutter and pressures that are overbearing. no wonder there are “stress clinics” opening up left, right and center!!!!! yet society and as the product of our environment, we are EXPECTED to maintain the pace and remain sane???? society presents us with unrealistic expectations that we place on ourselves and in the midst of running these marathons we forget about the most important thing- OURSELVES. at times we forget about ourselves in the midst of our mess…the truth is we end up in an even BIGGER mess. this is relevant to relationships, finances, motherhood. we forget that the most priceless asset to all the successes of life are ourselves.

though i would like to be the orchestrator of a romanticized solution that would include a spa day everyday, a four day work week, and lots of sex….let’s face it, it does NOT always work that way. i believe the approach and thoughts presented in this article below scientifically reinforce simple ways to use your most powerful tool, your brain. safely we can say it’s the most important instrument we have and if we use it to generate positive thoughts and feelings towards ourselves…we can only benefit.

in the month of February as we celebrate love….let’s remember that self-love is, and always should NUMBER one….when not aligned as such, everything else is at risk.

check out the article below from the Psychology Today magazine…..(by Hara Estroff Marano)

Having a glowing vision of the future helps you tackle the core beliefs about yourself—such as doubts about your own worthiness for success—that have held you back until now. So as you peel back the curtains around your core self, you become ready to tap the source of all change and success—self-love, and forgiveness for past failures.

Self-love doesn’t happen by luck or the grace of God. You have to create it. These are among the most important elements of it.

Honoring yourself and who you really are. Love is your birthright. As Teilhard de Chardin said, “We are not human beings having a spiritual experience, we are spiritual beings having a human experience.”

Telling the highest truth, which is that we are powerful beings capable of creating joy and success or pain and suffering in our lives. We are not destined to be victims. We have the power to choose, and this power is both the greatest responsibility we have and the greatest opportunity.

Honoring who you are becoming. Self-love involves recognizing that you are constantly evolving and growing to become a more powerful and more loving being.

Honoring your feelings and responding to those feelings. Remember, feelings are important signals, and even the so-called negative feelings of anger and fear serve the important purpose of alerting us to the obstacles in our life.

Recognizing that the universe is literally made of love. “If we will just open ourselves to receive, like flowers opening to the sun, then everything is possible,” says Ti Caine, hypnotherapist and life coach based in Sherman Oaks, California.

When things go wrong or goals don’t materialize, most people blame their past, their parents, life in general or God. We are even encouraged to do this by friends and family who are well-meaning. We also devote a great deal of energy to settling for what is, without recognizing what we can become.

All the great wisdom traditions speak of the unlimited power we have within us. Both quantum physics and psychology offer proof that our thoughts create our reality. Yet, Caine points out, many people strenuously object to the truth that we create our own reality.

“They argue that it’s not loving to tell a sick person they had anything to do with creating their illness,” he says. “Yet, by not owning their power when they are sick, they are consigning themselves to a life of being a victim of any virus or circumstance that comes their way. This powerlessness is the source of most depression, and it leads to more illness and problems such as overeating.”

He insists it is more honest and even more loving to gently help people recognize the power they have to create their reality, including failures. Once we do that, then we must forgive ourselves for the painful experiences we have previously chosen in our lives. “I don’t know all the parts of me that are creating the failed relationships, but I am willing to learn about them.”

Only by seeing how in the past we have allowed problems to control us, and forgiving ourselves, can we really change and be free to go forward in life feeling more powerful, able to create the success and happiness we want.

Forgiveness, says Caine, is not only a form of self-love, it is completely an inside job. First you have to own your mistakes. Here is how.

Imagine a future where you totally love yourself and have totally owned your power.

Reach for an understanding of why you would choose limitations in your life. We are often taught by family and life experiences that being weak, sick or helpless is the way to get attention or help. Look at your own and other peoples attempts to get acceptance, attention and love. Ask yourself, what was I taught about being lovable? About being powerful and responsible for my life?

Then forgive yourself for having made mistakes. Imagine how your future self would forgive you for a mistake.

Then you can consciously create better methods for getting the acceptance, attention, love and success that you want.

it’s funny… but looking at these two photographs, likely you would not make the connection of the first to the latter. Madonna for Wallis Simpson. who would have thought….

when i watched the documentary of King Edward VIII, who abdicated his right to throne as king for a woman by the name of Wallis Simpson, i frantically looked for her name on google search engine. who was this woman who had such a power that she caused a man to fight against his right for king??

her name was Wallis Simpson, and her story is now told through the direction of Madonna herself in a film entitled “W.E.”. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1536048/

directed by my love the great Madonna, whom in an Anderson Cooper interview admits she looked up Simpson herself upon discovering her story (http://www.andersoncooper.com/episodes/madonna/), i am more than jubilant to know that Madonna also sank such interest in Simpson’s character.

twice divorced and hated amongest many for her intersection in a king’s “right”… i believe that’s it’s an intriguing piece of work …as well as a story of love that stands as an undeniable power.

GO WATCH IT ! i would love feedback….
