Radugadesign studio took part in the Berlin Festival of Lights 2017 on October 6-15.
This year, the theme of the festival was “Creating Tomorrow”. We showed competitive work on the facade of the Berlin Cathedral (Berliner Dom). The Cathedral transforms on through different architectural styles: from original Neo-Renaissance shape through modern to deconstructivism ending in a speculative design of the future.

Three teams joined together to create a stand for the Chelyabinsk Pipe-Rolling Plant on SPIGF 2017. While design studio Ё-program
(yo.ru/for-what/design/) and the company Sollab (sollab.ru/) were responsible for the architectural design, studio Radugadesign took part for the unique multimedia content. During the operation of the stand there was a performance of professional magicians on the stage.

We used augmented reality technology that helped to draw the attention of forum visitors the an innovative method of metal processing–laser welding and operation of large production in the current format.

In June, the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) in Beijing hosted the premiere of the show “2047 Apologue” by the Chinese director and visionary–Zhang Yimou.

The director extends the traditional forms of stage performances, combining Chinese folk art with modern technology. The show consisted of eight performances, which were prepared by 20 international and local teams. The Radugadesign studio in cooperation with WHITEvoid (Germany), the director of the London Theater of Contemporary Ballet Rose Alice and CPG-Concept (Lisa Keegan) developed a visual accompaniment for the kinetic dance performance “Weaving Machine”. This one concluded the show. In each of the performances, the emphasis was focused on the fact that technology and humans are merged together, but nothing is eternal and technology can leave us.

Most of us now do not represent our existence without virtual communication, wireless networks, complex programs and impulses. So what if we are deprived of all these opportunities?
“Being human, in olden days we sat down and talked face to face, our face turns red with embarrassment, but we can feel each other’s emotions close up – fears, anger, sadness and happiness. Will we still have these feelings in the future?

In this dialogue between ancient culture and modern technology, we experience puzzles that comes with the rapid progression of technology, and reflect on it – what will be the future relation between human and technology?

The most difficult task for this show is getting the audience to accept and acknowledge that their lifestyle, the way they communicate and the way that they work might not be the best”-says Zhang Yimou.

This year we are launching a series of audiovisual events under the name R10-visual experiments, pop-up projects and parties.

Within 10 year anniversary of Radugadesign studio, we are opening the night program of Archstoyanie 2017 festival with audiovisual projections on Nikolay Polissky biggest installation-“Universal mind”.
“Universal mind”-the symbol of communication, which represents a connection between human mind and nature, is a particulary related object for the studio. In 2014 we created an audiovisual show for the opening on the very same installation at the “Night of New Media” festival (https://vimeo.com/102212585).

On the 21st of July, a number of media-artist and musicians, who became a part of Radugadesign studio during these years, will illuminate the “Brain” in Nikolo Lenivets for the second time, by showing the projections of human eternal bonds.

On the 22nd of July our studio is responsible for the visual design of the “Universal mind” installation, created in collaboration with artists from NII.

In June, @radugadesign studio developed a multimedia design project for the CHTPZ stand at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2017). In the collaboration with the media artist Dmitry Morozov (:: vtol::) and the ChTPZ educational center students, we created the science-art project – kinetic and musical installation “Prosodia” (which in Greek means a “musical accent”). The installation is a multi-component robotic composition. The project is based on the idea of using the golden section as the concept of creating both external proportions and musical principles of the installation.

We also created a VR-application for the “Height 239” ChTPZ workshop. With the help of metaphorical images of nature and real shootings of the plant with modern equipment and technologies. We managed to convey the philosophy of the company with fundamentally new accents of the labour culture.

In April 2017, American industrial designer Karim Rashid presented a design of kitchen furniture at the Trekhgornaya Manufaktura space. The kitchen was produced for the Russian company “Maria”. In his work Karim Rashid connects digital and physical worlds. The Radugadesign studio created an audiovisual performance in collaboration with the pianist and composer Nikola Melnikov. Expression at the junction of design and architecture, emphasizing the connection of two parallels.

Directed by ZHANG Yimou, 2047 Apologue will make its global premiere in Beijing at NCPA from June 16th, to June 18th, 2017. The international teams with domestic and overseas top cast will present a refreshing audio-visual feast. ZHANG Yimou breaks the form of traditional stage plays, combining Chinese folk arts with international technology, and thus creating a unique “concept performance”. 20 teams and individuals from seven countries will gather in this performance. Radugadesign studio are definitely excited to participate in the show. In cooperation with WHITEvoid team (Germany) and the dance director of London Contemporary Ballet Theatre Rose Alice we have created visual support for dance with kinetic lights installation.

At the St. Petersburg international economic forum (SPIEF-2017) Chelyabinsk Tube-Rolling Plant (“ChelPipe”) presents a project dedicated to the educational program “The Future of White metallurgy”, launched for the training of the best professionals in the industry.

The Radugadesign studio was engaged into the development of the group’s stand. In collaboration with media artist Dmitry Morozov (vtol) we have created a kinetic and musical installation “Prosodia”, which from Greek means “musical accent”. The students of “The Future of the White metallurgy” helped to create “Prosodia”.

Technically, the installation consists of four objects that interact with each other. Three kinetic mechanisms, the interaction of which drives the disks attached to them by strings on the main subject, are making unusual harmonies and managing in real time the reflections of these arrangements on the big screen.

This spring in the Stockholm City Hall we presented the audiovisual performance “Cognition” developed by our studio in collaboration with the composer and pianist Nikola Melnikov, specially for the brand Asko. The installation of “Cognition” is an expression of striving for the perfect shape. Everything can be perfect–whether it is a geometric figure or a person. The experience of perfection exists where people open themselves in external icons. We thank Asko Appliances AB for their trust and support in the implementation of the project.

The Radugadesign studio is inspired by industrial design and new technologies. During the work on the preview of Turing Phone Appassionato video we tried to convey emotions. “Appassionato” translates as “passionate” with Italian. The Turing Robotics Industries (TRI) company was developing a second-generation phone with great enthusiasm and passion. Appassionato, as a piece of art, is made of a liquid-metal shell with a special coating, which provides resistance to scratches and feels like touching ceramics. Turing Phone-like the company itself-is named after the British mathematician Alan Turing, who is also known as an outstanding cryptographer. The main feature of the phone will be “enhanced intelligence”-the voice concierge service Sir ALAN.

Our work for the legendary basketball team Chicago Bulls (NBA)-Video Mapping Content Set

For Chicago-“Bulls” is much more than a basketball club. It contains tons of emotions, memories and hopes of those people who live in the city. The team won six times the NBA champion title. However, beyond bright games, for the National Basketball Association it is important to work with the fans. All matches are accompanied with a show, which reinforces the impression of the audience at the game. We made a universal visual support for performances of artists during the breaks. Our concept “halftime show” will stay with the Chicago Bulls team before the start of the new season

Produced for Spinifex Group and George P. Johnson Experience Marketing for the Toyota Motor Corporation at the Detroit auto show NAIAS-2017.

The first installation became a kind of car configurator, which we have brought into offline, where visitors could touch real physical objects, and choose interior and exterior of a car.

The second installation was based on the most labor-intensive car parts of Lexus, which were placed on some shelves of a stand. In front of these objects there was a transparent OLED display, with the interaction of which, guests could learn more about the details.

It will be nothing else than a 53-foot museum truck with memorable things and a multimedia content, which our studio has worked on! From January the 30th to February the 5th in St. Petersburg was hosted the tournament of Women’s Tennis Association–St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy 2017–which was attended by the top-10 tennis players.

Radugadesign studio together with the production center #ИсполняйМечты developed a mapping show for the closing ceremony of the tournament. While creating graphics for the show, the studio was guided by the concept of “Girl power” (feminine force) and the music of the young, but already world famous British singer and composer – John Newman.

This year we used new media sources on the court, which extended design possibilities. Check out how it was!
