A condom is a thin piece of rubbery material that fits over a man’s penis during sex, forming a barrier to protect you from sexually transmitted infections (STIs) including HIV, and unplanned pregnancy.
A condom will protect you and your partner during vaginal, anal and oral sex. Put on a new condom if moving from one type of sex to another to avoid cross infection.
Putting a condom on before any contact between the penis and a partner’s genital area or mouth minimises risks to both of you.
Using two condoms at the same time can cause them to break – one is enough!
Using water-based lubricants makes condoms more comfortable and sex more enjoyable – but avoid oil-based lubricants with latex condoms as they can weaken or break them.
It’s very rare for a condom to break – but if it does, don’t panic, there are things you can do to minimise the risk of STIs and pregnancy.

Using condoms consistently and correctly will help protect you from the risks of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV, so you can have more enjoyable sex. WHAT IS A CONDOM?

A condom is a thin piece of rubbery material that fits over a man’s penis during sex. When used correctly, condoms prevent HIV, as well as pregnancy and most STIs.

The most popular and common type of condom is made from a thin latex (rubber).

HOW DO CONDOMS WORK?

Sexual fluids such as semen, vaginal fluids and blood can pass on HIV and STIs. A condom forms a barrier between these fluids and entry points into the body, such as a person’s:

vagina
anus
penis (urethra)
mouth (especially if there are large open sores or bleeding gums)

Although a few STIs can also be passed on through skin-to-skin contact (for example genital warts), condoms still cut the risk of many of these infections.

WHEN SHOULD I USE A CONDOM?

You can use a condom to protect yourself and your partner from HIV and STIs:

during vaginal, anal and oral sex
every time you have sex
when sharing sex toys (put a new condom on for each partner)

Putting a condom on before any contact between the penis and a partner’s genital area or mouth minimises risks to both of you.

HOW TO PUT ON A CONDOM?

You’ll find instructions on the condom packet, but here are a few simple steps:

Check the date on the condom hasn’t passed. An out of date condom is more likely to break.
Check the packet is in good condition and has a certification mark (FDA, CE, ISO or Kitemark). This means it’s been tested and complies with safety standards.
Open the packet carefully so you don’t rip or damage the condom. There's usually an arrow on the packet to guide you in the direction you should open it. Avoid using your teeth or scissors and be careful with sharp fingernails or jewellery.
The penis needs to be erect before the condom is put on. Always put the condom on before the penis touches a woman or man’s genitals or mouth.
Condoms come rolled up. Place one on top of the erect penis and pinch the teat at the end of the condom before you start to roll it down the penis. By doing this you’ll squeeze out any air bubbles and ensure there is room for the semen (cum).
Roll the condom down to the base of the penis. If it's on correctly it will roll downwards easily. If you've started putting it on the wrong way or you’re not sure then take it off and try again. Even if the man hasn’t ejaculated (cum) there can still be semen on his penis (pre-cum), so it’s important to try again with a new condom.

HOW TO REMOVE A CONDOM?

Only take the condom off when the penis has been withdrawn completely but while the penis is still erect. Most men lose their erection very soon after they cum so don’t wait around too long to pull out the penis from the vagina or anus, as this risks semen spilling out, or the condom slipping off.

Always use a new condom if you have sex again, or if you’re going from anal to vaginal or oral sex. This is important because several different infections can be passed on from the anus to the vagina or mouth.

TOP TIPS FOR USING A CONDOM

Make it part of the fun

Make putting on a condom a fun part of foreplay – keep touching and kissing as you put it on – you can also get your partner to put it on for you.

Don’t double up

Using two condoms at once, or a female and a male condom at the same time, doesn’t give you double protection – in fact it can cause friction and makes it more likely to split or slip off. One is enough!

Practice makes perfect

It’s a great idea to practice putting on a condom a few times before you’re actually in a situation where you’re about to have sex. This can help you to feel more at ease when the time comes and get you used to the feel of the condom.

LOVE YOUR LUBE

We love lubricant because

it makes using condoms feel more comfortable and increases pleasure during sex
it reduces the risk of the condom breaking, especially during anal sex

Try putting lubricant on the outside of the condom or inside and around the vagina or anus. But don’t put it on the inside of the condom or on your bare penis, as this will make the condom slip off. And remember to only use a water-based lubricant designed for sex. Oil-based lubricants (such as vaseline, massage oils or hand cream) may weaken or break latex condoms.

SIZE MATTERS

Condom sizes vary. You can try out different sizes of condoms to find the one that’s best for you or your partner. A well-fitting condom should roll all the way down to the base of the penis and feel comfortable rather than really tight. On the other hand it shouldn’t feel too roomy and in danger of slipping off during sex. Keep in mind that, just like when you buy clothes, you might need a different size in different brands of condoms.

But don’t worry, condoms are super stretchy, so you’ll find one to fit – it’s a myth that a penis can be too big for condoms. However, if you can’t find a male condom which feels comfortable during sex then you could try a female condom for either vaginal or anal sex.

TRY DIFFERENT TEXTURES AND FLAVOURS

The good news is that there are a huge variety of condoms available. You have a choice of textures (ribs or bumps can increase sensation for both partners), thickness, flavours (which can make oral sex more fun) and colours – so try different options and find out which ones turn you and your partner on.

If you’re sensitive to latex you can also use latex-free condoms made of polyurethane or polyisoprene instead. Female condoms are also latex-free, so you could try those instead.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF A CONDOM BREAKS?

It’s very rare for a condom to break if it has been put on and used correctly. But if a condom does split, break or slip off there are a few simple things you can do:

withdraw the penis immediately

remove as much semen (cum) as you can

avoid washing inside your vagina or anus (douching) as this can spread infection further or cause irritation

access emergency contraception if you’re not using any other contraceptive.

Most sexual health professionals will advise you to have a sexual health test around 10 days after unprotected sex or if a condom breaks (or earlier if you’re worried about any symptoms) and then again around three months later. This is because different STIs will become detectable at different times after infection.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF A CONDOM BREAKS AND MY PARTNER IS HIV-POSITIVE?

Your HIV positive partner will be able to tell you if they are on regular treatment and have been virally suppressed for at least the last six months. If this is the case, the risk of HIV transmission if a condom breaks is extremely unlikely. You may however both still decide to get tested for other STIs.

If a condom breaks and your HIV positive partner is not on regular treatment or is unsure of how well they are doing, you’ll need to visit a sexual health professional as soon as you can. You may be offered post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) treatment. This is a month-long treatment of antiretroviral drugs (ARVs) that reduce your chances of becoming HIV-positive.

PEP has a high success rate; however, it’s not a replacement for condoms. PEP is a powerful drug that has side effects and it's not an option available to everyone.

If you’re in a relationship with someone who is living with HIV, using pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) could be another option to protect you from the risk of HIV transmission. However it won’t protect you from other STIs and unplanned pregnancy.

HOW CAN I TALK ABOUT CONDOMS WITH MY PARTNER?

Some people feel embarrassed bringing up the subject of using condoms, especially in the early stages of a relationship. But protecting yourself and your partner should be a priority for both of you. If your partner refuses to use a condom don’t feel pressured into having unprotected sex – remember you always have the right to decide whether you want to have sex or not.

Talking about condoms with your partner isn’t about you saying that you don’t trust them – it’s as much for them as it is for you. Knowing you are safe should help you both feel more at ease and mean you can get on with just enjoying sex.

Dehydroepiandrosterone is an important precursor hormone, and is the most abundant circulating steroid present in the human body. It has little biological effect on its own but has powerful effects when converted into other hormones such as sex steroids.

WHEAT IS DEHYDROEPIANDROSTERONE?

Dehydroepiandrosterone is a precursor hormone, which means it has little biological effect on its own, but has powerful effects when converted into other hormones such as testosterone and oestradiol. Dehydroepiandrosterone is produced from cholesterol mainly by the outer layer of the adrenal glands, known as the adrenal cortex, although it is also made by the testes and ovaries in small amounts. It circulates in the blood, mainly attached to sulphur as dehydroepiandrosterone sulphate, which prevents the hormone being broken down. In women, dehydroepiandrosterone is an important source of oestrogen in the body – it provides about 75% of oestrogens before the menopause, and 100% of oestrogen in the body after menopause.

Dehydroepiandrosterone production increases from around nine or ten years of age, peaks during the 20s and gradually decreases into old age. Dehydroepiandrosterone is also produced in small amounts by the brain, although its precise role there is not clear.

HOW IS DEHYDROEPIANDROSTERONE CONTROLLED?

Dehydroepiandrosterone production is controlled by the brain in a negative feedback loop. This means that when dehydroepiandrosterone levels in the body fall, the system is 'switched on' and, as levels rise, it 'switches off' again.

The system is 'switched on' by corticotropin-releasing hormone being produced by the hypothalamus. This travels to the anterior pituitary gland and causes it to release adrenocorticotropic hormone into the bloodstream. Both of these hormones cause the adrenal glands to produce dehydroepiandrosterone. When dehydroepiandrosterone levels rise, the body shuts off production by stopping corticotropin-releasing hormone and adrenocorticotropic hormone.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I HAVE TOO MUCH DEHYDROEPIANDROSTERONE?

Women with polycystic ovary syndrome and hirsutism and children with congenital adrenal hyperplasia have higher levels of dehydroepiandrosterone/dehydroepiandrosterone sulphate. In addition, levels may be raised in individuals with cancer of the adrenal glands (adrenal carcinoma).

High levels of dehydroepiandrosterone have also been linked to reducing the risk of depression, cardiovascular disease and even death in some studies. Some experts have suggested dehydroepiandrosterone supplements might overcome age-related decline (a so-called 'elixir of youth') but this is not supported by current evidence.

Some athletes and bodybuilders also take dehydroepiandrosterone (an anabolic steroid) to increase muscle mass and strength. Serious side-effects from taking manufactured dehydroepiandrosterone have been reported and it is banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency. However, exercise and calorie-restriction have been shown to increase natural dehydroepiandrosterone levels in the body and may lead to longer life.

Since 2000, dehydroepiandrosterone supplementation in combination with gonadotropins has been used in reproductive medicine as a way to treat female infertility.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I HAVE TOO LITTLE DEHYDROEPIANDROSTERONE?

Low levels of dehydroepiandrosterone have been linked with shorter lifespan in men but not women. However, the reason for this is not fully understood. Decreased dehydroepiandrosterone levels are associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease in men with type 2 diabetes mellitus and may also cause a shorter lifespan, although further research is needed to confirm this.

In women, low levels of dehydroepiandrosterone are associated with low libido, reduced bone mineral density and osteoporosis. However, supplementation with commercially available dehydroepiandrosterone is not recommended as there is concern about numerous possible side-effects.

If you need help quitting, try nicotine gum or patches or ask your doctor about the drugs bupropion (Zyban) or varenicline (Chantix).

Use alcohol in moderation. Some men with erectile dysfunction find that having one drink can help them relax, but heavy use of alcohol can make matters worse. Alcohol can inhibit sexual reflexes by dulling the central nervous system. Drinking large amounts over a long period can damage the liver, leading to an increase in estrogen production in men. In women, alcohol can trigger hot flashes and disrupt sleep, compounding problems already present in menopause.

Eat right. Overindulgence in fatty foods leads to high blood cholesterol and obesity—both major risk factors for cardiovascular disease. In addition, being overweight can promote lethargy and a poor body image. Increased libido is often an added benefit of losing those extra pounds.

Use it or lose it. When estrogen drops at menopause, the vaginal walls lose some of their elasticity. You can slow this process or even reverse it through sexual activity. If intercourse isn’t an option, masturbation is just as effective, although for women, this is most effective if you use a vibrator or dildo (an object resembling a penis) to help stretch the vagina. For men, long periods without an erection can deprive the penis of a portion of the oxygen-rich blood it needs to maintain good sexual functioning. Corticotropin-releasing hormone is secreted by the paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus which, among other functions, releases hormones. Corticotropin-releasing hormone has several important actions. Its main role in the body is as the central driver of the stress hormone system, known as the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal axis. Corticotropin-releasing hormone is given this name because it causes release of adrenocorticotropic hormone from the pituitary gland. Adrenocorticotropic hormone in turn travels in the bloodstream to the adrenal glands, where it causes the secretion of the stress hormone cortisol.

Corticotropin-releasing hormone also acts on many other areas within the brain where it suppresses appetite, increases anxiety, and improves memory and selective attention. Together, these effects coordinate behaviour to develop and fine tune the body’s response to a stressful experience.

Corticotropin-releasing hormone is also produced throughout pregnancy in increasing amounts by the foetus and placenta, with the effects of increasing cortisol. Ultimately, it is the high levels of corticotropin-releasing hormone that, along with other hormones, are thought to start labour.

Finally, in smaller quantities, corticotropin-releasing hormone is also made by certain white blood cells, where it stimulates swelling or tenderness known as inflammation, particularly of the gut.

HOW IS CORTICOTROPIN-RELEASING HORMONE CONTROLLED?

Corticotropin-releasing hormone secretion is stimulated by nervous activity within the brain. It follows a natural 24 hour rhythm in non-stressed circumstances, where it is highest at around 8 a.m. and lowest overnight. However, corticotropin-releasing hormone can also be increased above the normal daily levels by a stressful experience, infection or even exercise. An increase in corticotropin-releasing hormone leads to higher levels of the stress hormone cortisol which mobilises energy resources needed for dealing with the cause of the stress. High levels of stress hormones over a long period can have negative effects on the body. Because of this, cortisol blocks the continued release of corticotropin-releasing hormone and switches off the hypothalamus–pituitary–adrenal axis, which is known as a negative feedback loop.

Some effects of corticotropin-releasing hormone in the brain can also be blocked by leptin, a hormone produced by fat tissue. This may be partly why corticotropin-releasing hormone can control appetite.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I HAVE TOO MUCH CORTICOTROPIN-RELEASING HORMONE?

Abnormally high corticotropin-releasing hormone levels are connected with a variety of diseases. Because it stimulates anxiety and suppresses appetite, too much corticotropin-releasing hormone is suspected of causing nervous problems such as clinical depression, anxiety, sleep disturbances and anorexia nervosa.

In addition, high levels of corticotropin-releasing hormone may also make certain inflammatory problems worse, including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. Initially this might seem unexpected because raised levels of corticotropin-releasing hormone in the brain can lead to increased glucocorticoids production, and glucocorticoids have an anti-inflammatory effect. However, research has revealed that when high levels of corticotropin-releasing hormone occur in tissues outside the brain, they can actually have a powerful inflammatory action. Increased corticotropin-releasing hormone levels within the joints, skin or gut can therefore make these inflammatory conditions worse or even play a role in their development.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I HAVE TOO LITTLE CORTICOTROPIN-RELEASING HORMONE?

Research has shown that people with Alzheimer’s disease have particularly low corticotropin-releasing hormone levels. Some scientists also suspect that a lack of corticotropin-releasing hormone might cause chronic fatigue syndrome, sometimes called myalgic encephalomyelitis, where sufferers have problems with sleep, memory and concentration. WHAT IS CHOLECYSTOKININ?

Cholecystokinin is produced by I-cells in the lining of the duodenum and is also released by some neurons in the brain. It acts on two types of receptors found throughout the gut and central nervous system.

The most recognised functions of this hormone are in digestion and appetite. It improves digestion by slowing down the emptying of food from the stomach and stimulating the production of bile in the liver as well as its release from the gallbladder. Bile acts like a detergent making the fat droplets smaller so that enzymes can break it down more easily. Cholecystokinin also increases the release of fluid and enzymes from the pancreas to break down fats, proteins and carbohydrates.

Cholecystokinin seems to be involved with appetite by increasing the sensation of fullness in the short-term, that is, during a meal rather than between meals. It may do this by affecting appetite centres in the brain as well as delaying emptying of the stomach. However, more research is needed to confirm this finding.

There is also evidence to suggest that cholecystokinin may have a role in anxiety and panic disorders. This is an effect of cholecystokinin released in the brain, not an effect of secretion from other parts of the body.

HOW IS CHOLECYSTOKININ CONTROLLED?

Fat and protein in the stomach cause the release of cholecystokinin. Increased blood levels of cholecystokinin can be found 15 minutes after a meal has begun and levels remain raised for three hours afterwards. The release of cholecystokinin is blocked by the hormone somatostatin and by bile acids in the small intestine.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I HAVE TOO MUCH CHOLECYSTOKININ?

There are no known cases of too much cholecystokinin. However, weight loss drugs are currently under development that copy the appetite-reducing actions of cholecystokinin.

Some research has been carried out to examine blood levels of cholecystokinin when people are fasting or just after they have eaten. There appears to be evidence of less than average cholecystokinin in very obese people, unlike the levels in obese and slim people. This low level of cholecystokinin may contribute to reduced feelings of fullness and difficulty in losing weight in very obese people. However, more research is needed to confirm this finding. Variations in the cholecystokinin gene itself has been associated with obesity, with an increased risk of 60% if people carry the slightly different form (variant) called cholecystokinin H3. About eight weeks after conception the human fetus has two sets of ducts, one of which can develop into the male reproductive tract and the other into the female reproductive tract. If the fetus is genetically male (XY chromosomes) then the embryonic testes will produce anti-Mullerian hormone. This causes the Mullerian (female) ducts to disappear – hence the term anti-Mullerian hormone, whilst testosterone produced by the testes causes the male (Wollfian) ducts to survive. The Wollfian ducts go on to develop into the different parts of the male reproductive system: the epididymis, the vas deferens, the seminal vesicles and the prostate gland. In a female fetus (XX chromosomes) the Wollfian ducts disappear (because of the lack of testosterone) and the Mullerian ducts develop into the fallopian tubes, uterus (womb), cervix and the upper part of the vagina.

Anti-Mullerian hormone may also have a role in regulating sex steroid production in puberty and in the adult ovaries and testes. In the ovaries, anti-Mullerian hormone appears to be important in the early stages of development of the follicles, which contain and support the eggs prior to fertilisation. The more ovarian follicles a woman has, the more anti-Mullerian hormone her ovaries can produce, and so AMH can be measured in the bloodstream to assess how many follicles a woman has left in her ovaries: her ‘ovarian reserve’.

It is not currently known how the production of anti-Mullerian hormone is controlled.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I HAVE TOO MUCH OR TOO LITTLE Anti-Mullerian HORMONE?

When the male fetus does not produce enough anti-Mullerian hormone, the Mullerian ducts do not disappear and this leads to persistent Mullerian duct syndrome. Patients with this syndrome will have a male appearance but they usually have undescended testes (cryptorchidism) and low or absent sperm count due to abnormal development of the Wollfian duct. This can be associated with malformation of the vas deferens and epididymis. This condition is rare.

Since ovarian follicles produce anti-Mullerian hormone in adulthood, measuring the levels of anti-Mullerian hormone in blood provides a way of estimating ovarian reserve in women. Consequently, anti-Mullerian hormone levels are routinely used to predict how well a woman is likely to respond to ovarian stimulation for in vitro fertilisation (IVF) fertility treatment, and what doses of hormones should be used during IVF.

In women anti-Mullerian hormone levels peak around puberty and remain relatively constant until after the menopause, when no follicles remain, and levels of anti-Mullerian hormone become low. Some studies suggest that levels of anti-Mullerian hormone may be lower than normal in women who undergo premature ovarian failure. However, anti-Mullerian hormone results need to be interpreted with caution since many other factors can affect an individual’s fertility.

High levels of anti-Mullerian hormone may be associated with polycystic ovary syndrome. However, measuring anti-Mullerian hormone can be misleading and does not give a definitive diagnosis of either premature ovarian failure or polycystic ovary syndrome. As long as a pregnant woman is able to perform the major functions of her job, not hiring or firing her because she is pregnant is against the law. It's against the law to dock her pay or demoted her to a lesser position because of pregnancy. It's also against the law to hold back benefits for pregnancy because a woman is not married. All are forms of pregnancy discrimination, and all are illegal.

Women are protected under the pregnancy Discrimination Act. It says that businesses with at least 15 employees must treat women who are pregnant in the same manner as other job applicants or employees with similar abilities or limitations.

The Family and Medical Leave Act also protects the jobs of workers who are employed by companies with 50 employees or more and who have worked for the company for at least 12 months. These companies must allow employees to take 12 weeks of unpaid leave for medical reasons, including pregnancy and childbirth. Your job cannot be given away during this 12-week period.

There are different kinds of sex — but you need good communication and consent no matter what kind of sex is involved. Sex can lead to pregnancy and/or STDs, but there are ways to protect yourself.

WHAT’S SEX?

People define "sex" in different ways. Some people believe that it only counts as sex if a penis goes into a vagina, but this isn't true for everybody. Different types of sex include:

Vaginal sex (penis-in-vagina intercourse)

Oral sex (mouth-to-genital contact)

Anal sex (penis-in-butt intercourse)

Fingering or hand jobs (hand-to-genital contact)

Dry humping or genital rubbing

Masturbation (touching yourself)

Whatever sex means to you, being sexual with another person comes with a lot of responsibility. Before you have sex, think about what things you feel comfortable doing, ask what the other person feels comfortable doing, and think about any risks involved — like STDs or pregnancy — and how to help prevent them.

It's just as important to think about what you DON'T feel comfortable doing — and then talk about it with your partner. And if you're in the middle of doing something that you thought you wanted to do but change your mind, that's OK, too. You can stop any time you want.

If you're going to have vaginal, oral, or anal sex, talk with your partner about how you'll help protect each other from STDs.

If you're having vaginal sex, it's also important to use birth control if you don't want to get pregnant.

WHAT’S ORAL SEX?

Going down. Eating out. Blow job. These are all names for oral sex — using your mouth to stimulate another person's genitals.

Some people like oral sex, and others don't. Some people like giving oral sex but don't like getting it. Some like getting it but not giving it. All of this is totally fine and normal — it's up to you to decide what you're comfortable with, and let your partner know.

You can't get pregnant from oral sex, but you can get an STD if you don’t protect yourself. Although it's less likely you'll get an STD from oral sex than from unprotected vaginal or anal sex, safer is always better. Use a condom to cover the penis, or a dental dam or cut-open condom to cover the vulva or anus to help prevent STDs.

WHAT’S ANAL SEX?

Anal sex means penis-in-anus (butt) intercourse. Some people enjoy anal sex, and some people don't like it at all. Either way is perfectly fine. If you don't like it or don't want to try it, it’s not ok for someone to pressure you into it. Sex should feel good and be comfortable for both of you.

Anal sex can hurt if you're not relaxed and don't use lubricant. The anus doesn't make it’s own lubrication like the vagina does, so using lube helps the penis (or a sex toy) go in the anus easier and keeps the condom from breaking.

Don't use anything with oil in it, like Vaseline, lotion, or baby oil. Oil-based lubes can weaken a condom and make it more likely to break. You can get safe lubricants (water or silicone based) in the condom aisle at drug and grocery stores.

Listen to your body. If anal sex (or any sex) hurts, stop doing it. Sex that's painful or uncomfortable shouldn’t continue and your partner should respect that.

You can't get pregnant from anal sex. But there's a bigger chance of getting STDs, including HIV, from unprotected anal sex (without a condom). So it's important to always use condoms AND lube to lower your chances of getting an STD.

WHAT’S VAGINAL SEX?

Vaginal sex is when a penis goes inside a vagina. Some people really enjoy vaginal sex, and some people don’t. Some people with a vulva/clitoris orgasm from vaginal sex alone, and some people don’t. Just like all kinds of sex, everyone has different things they like and don’t like — and that’s ok. Let your partner know what feels good to you.

You can get pregnant and pass STDs from unprotected vaginal sex. But there are a lot of different birth control methods that help prevent pregnancy. Just like with oral and anal sex, condoms can help prevent STDs.

WHAT’S AN ORGASM?

An orgasm is the release of tension that can happen during sex or masturbation. It’s often intense and feels really good. Having an orgasm is sometimes called coming/cumming or climaxing.

Before and during an orgasm, you might notice changes to your body like:

your face and chest become warm and red
your heart beats faster
muscle spasms in your genitals
a pleasurable feeling in your genitals or even across your whole body

During an orgasm, the penis squirts a small amount (1-2 tablespoons) of semen, a white liquid that contains sperm and other fluids. This is called ejaculation. It’s possible to have an orgasm without ejaculating or to ejaculate without an orgasm, but they usually happen together.

It’s also possible for fluid to squirt out of the vulva before or during an orgasm — this is sometimes called female ejaculation. This fluid isn’t pee. Female ejaculation is less common than ejaculation out of the penis, but if it happens to you, it’s totally okay - nothing is weird or wrong with you.

Everybody is different and there’s not one “right” way to have an orgasm. You might be able to have an orgasm quickly and easily. Or you might need more time or a very specific type of stimulation. Experimenting with what feels good can help you understand your body and what feels good for you.

STAGES OF PREGNANCY

Pregnancy lasts about 40 weeks, counting from the first day of your last normal period. The weeks are grouped into three trimesters. Find out what's happening with you and your baby in these three stages.

FIRST TRIMESTER (WEEK 1–WEEK 12)

During the first trimester your body undergoes many changes. Hormonal changes affect almost every organ system in your body. These changes can trigger symptoms even in the very first weeks of pregnancy. Your period stopping is a clear sign that you are pregnant. Other changes may include:

Extreme tiredness
Tender, swollen breasts. Your nipples might also stick out.
Upset stomach with or without throwing up (morning sickness)
Cravings or distaste for certain foods
Mood swings
Constipation (trouble having bowel movements)
Need to pass urine more often
Headache
Heartburn
Weight gain or loss

As your body changes, you might need to make changes to your daily routine, such as going to bed earlier or eating frequent, small meals. Fortunately, most of these discomforts will go away as your pregnancy progresses. And some women might not feel any discomfort at all! If you have been pregnant before, you might feel differently this time around. Just as each woman is different, so is each pregnancy.

SECOND TRIMESTER (WEEK 13–WEEK 28)

Most women find the second trimester of pregnancy easier than the first. But it is just as important to stay informed about your pregnancy during these months.

You might notice that symptoms like nausea and fatigue are going away. But other new, more noticeable changes to your body are now happening. Your abdomen will expand as the baby continues to grow. And before this trimester is over, you will feel your baby beginning to move!

Stretch marks on your abdomen, breasts, thighs, or buttocks
Darkening of the skin around your nipples
A line on the skin running from belly button to pubic hairline

Numb or tingling hands, called carpal tunnel syndrome
Itching on the abdomen, palms, and soles of the feet. (Call your doctor if you have nausea, loss of appetite, vomiting, jaundice or fatigue combined with itching. These can be signs of a serious liver problem.)

THIRD TRIMESTER (WEEK 29–WEEK 40)

You're in the home stretch! Some of the same discomforts you had in your second trimester will continue. Plus, many women find breathing difficult and notice they have to go to the bathroom even more often. This is because the baby is getting bigger and it is putting more pressure on your organs. Don't worry, your baby is fine and these problems will lessen once you give birth.

PENICILLINS

Penicillin (PCN or pen) is a group of antibiotics which include penicillin G(intravenous use), penicillin V (use by mouth), procaine penicillin, and benzathine penicillin (intramuscular use). Penicillin antibiotics were among the first medications to be effective against many bacterial infections caused by staphylococci and streptococci. They are still widely used today, though many types of bacteria have developed resistance following extensive use.

About 10% of people report that they are allergic to penicillin; however, up to 90% of this group may not actually be allergic. Serious allergies only occur in about 0.03%.Those who are allergic to penicillin are most often given cephalosporin C because of its functional groups.All penicillins are β-lactam antibiotics, which are some of the most powerful and successful achievements in modern science.

DISCOVERY OF PENICILLIN

Penicillin was first discovered in 1928 and is now the most widely used antibiotic in the world.

Sir Alexander Fleming, a Scottish researcher, is credited with the discovery of penicillin in 1928. At the time, Fleming was experimenting with the influenza virus in the Laboratory of the Inoculation Department at St. Mary’s Hospital in London.

Often described as a careless lab technician, Fleming returned from a two-week vacation to find that a mold had developed on an accidentally contaminated staphylococcus culture plate. Upon examination of the mold, he noticed that the culture prevented the growth of staphylococci.

By discovering this mold and recognizing its use, Fleming set the wheels in motion to create one of the most useful drugs in medical history.

In March 1942, Anne Miller became the first civilian to receive successful treatment with penicillin. She narrowly avoided death following severe infection after a miscarriage.

Although Fleming technically discovered the first antibiotic, scientists had to do a lot of work before penicillins could become available for general use.

Scientists with a superior laboratory and a deeper understanding of chemistry than Fleming carried out the bulk of the work. Howard Florey, Norman Heatley, and Ernst Chain performed the first in-depth and focused studies on the drug.

In Fleming's Nobel Prize acceptance speech, he warned that the overuse of penicillins might, one day, lead to bacterial resistance. This has since become a problem.

WIDESPREAD USE

Penicillin made a difference during the first half of the 20th century. The first patient was successfully treated for streptococcal septicemia in the United States in 1942. However, supply was limited and demand was high in the early days of penicillin.

Penicillin helped reduce the number of deaths and amputations of troops during World War II. According to records, there were only 400 million units of penicillin available during the first five months of 1943; by the time World War II ended, U.S. companies were making 650 billion units a month.

HOW DO PENICILLINS WORK?

Penicillins are a group of antibacterial drugs that attack a wide range of bacteria. They were the first drugs of this type that doctors used. The discovery and manufacture of penicillins have changed the face of medicine, as these drugs have saved millions of lives.

FUNCTION

Drugs in the penicillin class work by indirectly bursting bacterial cell walls. They do this by acting directly on peptidoglycans, which play an essential structural role in bacterial cells.

Peptidoglycans create a mesh-like structure around the plasma membrane of bacterial cells, which increases the strength of the cell walls and prevents external fluids and particles from entering the cell.

1. When a bacterium multiplies, small holes open up in its cell walls as the cells divide. Newly-produced peptidoglycans then fill these holes to reconstruct the walls.

2. Penicillins block the protein struts that link the peptidoglycans together. This prevents the bacterium from closing the holes in its cell walls.

3. As the water concentration of the surrounding fluid is higher than that inside the bacterium, water rushes through the holes into the cell and the bacterium bursts.

RESISTANCE

Contrary to popular opinion, it is not the person who develops resistance to penicillins but the bacteria itself.

Bacteria have been around for billions of years. During this time, they have endured extreme environments and, as a result, are highly adaptable. They also regenerate very rapidly, making relatively quick genetic changes possible across a population.

THERE ARE THREE COMMON WAYS IN WHICH BACTERIA CAN DEVELOP IMMUNITY to PENICILLIN.

PENICILLINASE

Bacteria are sometimes able to produce penicillinase, an enzyme that degrades penicillins. This ability can spread throughout the bacterial population via a small ring of DNA in a process called conjugation. This is the bacterial equivalent of sexual reproduction, where individual organisms share new genetic information between them.

ALTERED BACTERIAL STRUCTURE

Some bacteria can subtly change the format of the penicillin-binding proteins in their peptidoglycan wall so that penicillins can no longer bind to it.

PENICILLIN REMOVAL

Other bacteria develop systems to export penicillins. Bacteria have efflux pumps that they use to release substances from the cell. The repurposing of some of these pumps can allow the cell to dispose of penicillins.

RISKS

Breast-feeding: People who are breast-feeding may pass small amounts of penicillin to the child. This can result in the child experiencing allergic reactions, diarrhea, fungal infections, and skin rash.

Interactions: Some other drugs can interact with penicillins. Checking with a doctor before taking multiple medications is vital.

Bleeding problems: Some penicillins, such as carbenicillin, piperacillin, and ticarcillin, can make pre-existing bleeding problems worse.

Oral contraceptives: Penicillins can interfere with birth control pills, increasing the risk of unwanted pregnancy.

Cystic fibrosis: People with cystic fibrosis are more prone to fever and skin rashes when taking piperacillin.

Kidney disease: Individuals with kidney disease have an increased risk of side effects.

Methotrexate: Methotrexate disrupts cell growth and can treat several conditions, including leukemia and some autoimmune diseases. Penicillins prevent the body from disposing of this drug, potentially leading to severe complications.

Phenylketonuria: Some stronger, chewable amoxicillin tablets contain high levels of aspartame that the body converts to phenylalanine. This is dangerous for anyone with phenylketonuria.

Gastrointestinal problems: Patients with a history of stomach ulcers or other intestinal diseases might be more likely to develop colitis while taking penicillins.

DESCRIPTION

Taxim O 200 MG Tablet is a broad-spectrum antibiotic used to treat a variety of conditions such as urinary tract infections, throat infections and lung infections caused by bacteria. This medicine is not recommended for use in case of a common cold, flu or other viral infections since it is active against infections caused by certain bacterial species only. This medicine is not recommended for use in patients less than 12 years of age.

USES OF TAXIM O 200 MG TABLET

What is it prescribed for?

URINARY TRACT INFECTION

This medicine is used in the treatment of urinary tract infections caused by E. coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterococci, and Klebsiella pneumoniae. `

TONSILLITIS/PHARYNGITIS

This medicine is used in the treatment of infections of the throat and airways leading to the lungs, namely tonsillitis and pharyngitis, caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, and some fungal infections.

BRONCHITIS

This medicine is used in the treatment of bronchitis, which is an inflammation of the lining of the bronchial tubes, caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, and some Mycoplasma pneumoniae.

GONOCOCCAL INFECTION

This medicine is used in the treatment of gonococcal infection caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae.

DOSAGE

Missed Dose

The missed dose should be taken as soon as possible. It is advisable to skip the missed dose if it is already time for your next scheduled dose. Do not use extra medicine to make up for the missed dose.

Overdose

Seek emergency medical treatment or contact the doctor in case of an overdose.

GENERAL WARNINGS

Clostridium difficile-associated Diarrhea

Antibiotic therapy will cause an imbalance in the normal microbial flora of the large intestine, which may promote the growth of a bacteria called Clostridium difficile and you may experience severe diarrhea as a result. Report any such incidence to the doctor on priority and avoid usage of this medicine in such cases.

Bleeding disorders

This medicine should be used with caution in patients with bleeding disorders due to the increased risk of excessive bleeding. Regular monitoring of prothrombin time is necessary in such cases. Appropriate dose adjustments or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required in some cases based on the clinical condition.

Kidney Diseases

This medicine should be used with caution in patients with a known history of impaired kidney function due to the increased risk of severe adverse effects. Close monitoring of kidney function, appropriate dose adjustments, or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required in some cases based on the clinical condition.

Use in pediatrics

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients less than 12 years of age; oral suspension or chewable tablets should be used for these patients.

Drug resistance

Usage of this medicine without sufficient proof or suspicion of a bacterial infection should be avoided. Irrational dosing might fail in providing the benefits and even cause toxicity. It may also increase the risk of development of bacteria that are drug resistant.

Driving or Operating machinery

This medicine may rarely cause dizziness in some patients. It is advised that you do not perform any activities such as driving a vehicle or operating machinery if you experience dizziness during treatment with this medicine.

Arrhythmias and QT Prolongation

It-Mac 200 MG Capsule may cause Arrhythmia and QT Prolongation especially in patients with existing heart disease. Close monitoring of heart function is necessary. Do not use medicines that can increase the risk of Arrhythmia.

Hearing loss

It-Mac 200 MG Capsule may cause transient or permanent hearing loss when taken with quinidine. Close monitoring of any symptoms of any hearing problem is necessary. Discontinue the treatment if symptoms persist.

Cystic Fibrosis

It-Mac 200 MG Capsule should be used with caution in patients with cystic fibrosis. Switch to alternate treatment if this medicine is not responding.

Absorption

Absorption of It-Mac 200 MG Capsule is higher in acidic conditions. Do not take any medicines that can alter gastric acid content.

Neuropathy

It-Mac 200 MG Capsule may cause weakness, numbness, and pain in hands and feet. Discontinue the treatment if these symptoms appear.

It-Mac 200 MG Capsule is used in the treatment of Histoplasmosis, a fungal infection that can affect the lungs and other parts of the body. The infection is caused by Histoplasma capsulatum.

Invasive Aspergillosis

It-Mac 200 MG Capsule is used in the treatment of Invasive Aspergillosis which is a fungal infection caused by Aspergillus. The infection affects the lungs or the immune system.

Esophageal Candidiasis
