I can’t say that I can always afford the newest and the best but a girl can wish right? LOL. So imagine my excitement when I was contacted by the good people over at <a href="http://www.powerbygen.com " target="_blank">Salom America Company </a>to try out one of the most innovative and “cutest” phone chargers I’ve ever seen which just so happens to be affordable and of great quality!</p> <p></p> <p>Upon receiving my package I could not wait to open the box and check out what was inside. I was shipped an Andru travel phone charger in the “Chill” version and a USB cord to use for my iPhone4S. The cool thing about Andru is that he is able to charge any Android phone and can also easily switch to service Apple phones as well. You can use your own Apple USB cord or purchase one online along with Andru. I have an Apple phone but I am not brand loyal when it comes to phone accessories especially when they are THIS adorable.</p> <p></p> <p><span style="color: #000000;">Andru is available in 3 cool color versions:</span><br /> <span style="color: #000000;">- <strong>Andru Original</strong> – Green with light up eyes (white:standby, blue:charging)</span><br /> <span style="color: #000000;">- <strong>Andru Dark Edition</strong> – Black with light up eyes (amber:standby, red:charging)</span><br /> <span style="color: #000000;">- <strong>Andru Chill</strong> – White with light up eyes (green:standby, blue:charging)</span></p> <p><span style="color: #000000;">Andru also comes with 1 display stand so you can put him on display in an upright position when he’s not working & a</span><span style="color: #000000;"> 4ft. long micro-USB data cable with raised dot design to know which way is up when plugging into your device. Andru also comes with a 2 year warranty which says a whole lot about his craftsmanship and overall customer service of the company. </span> If you are an iPhone user like myself then you can certainly purchase an apple USB cord along with Andru which would allow you to use it just like what was sent to me. Android users don’t fear as this device is enabled to work on your phone and comes with a charger cord. If you happen to live outside of the US, Andru is fully functional with the use of a proper adapter to plug him in.</p> <p></p> <p>The 1<sup>st</sup> thing that caught my attention was the super clever design of Andru’s body which is made to resemble the cute little Android robot character. His sleek all white frame and soft matte finish yields a sense of fun sophistication and looks as great as it is functional. Andru stands exactly 2.5 inches tall, has movable arms and even has little legs that plug into the wall or socket to get him going! When charging, my Andru’s eyes are light blue color and turns green once the device has fully charged to 100%. I sleep with my phone near my bed and at night the blue hue from Andru displays a light glow that acts a bit like a soft nightlight. When I wake up, Andru’s eyes are green and my iPhone is fully charged.</p> <p></p> <p>I am in love with the durability of this product and the fact that it comes along with a 2 year warranty. It’s small enough to transport all over with you and fit into a purse, laptop bag, or even your back pocket. Speaking Engagement</h1> <p>MeechyMonroe — Fri, 01 Mar 2013 22:15:00 +0000</p> <p>Recently I was presented with the opportunity to reach a group of people that I haven’t had the chance to speak directly to since I’ve become a Blogger. I’ve presented to large groups of women from all over the country on topics such as natural hair care, healthy hair care techniques, style, beauty and overall self esteem. I enjoy speaking to parents and allowing them to understand their texture as I feel they are better equiped to not only take care of their own hair but also the hair of their children or future offspring. However this opportunity was different, I was actually able to connect with the youth and I couldn’t have been more excited! I was contacted by the Emmaus Community Center through the W.I.N.G.S Organization to come in and speak to their youth group ranging from ages 11 through 18. I was super stoked to be a part of their monthly event, “Hot Wings and Hot Topics” and I instantly thought back to when I was once part of that age group and how grateful and excited I would have been to have had the opportunity to learn about my hair and how to truly take care of it.</p> <p></p> <p></p> <p>The first thing I thought while preparing my presentation was the attention span of young women so I made sure to gear my topics towards things that were meaningful to their age group as well as information that would be important for them to know. I spoke heavily on issues such as hair care, growth and overall style maintenance as most of the general audience members were old enough to actually care for their hair themselves. It was nice to assist the younger generation helping them understand the texture that sprouted form their heads and also have the opportunity to speak to the parents who were also in attendance. The crowd was super attentive and participated greatly with questions and comments which completely warmed my heart! Such a great group of young ladies.</p> <p></p> <p>Of course my family came out to support my 1st solo speaking engagement. My sisters Vaughn and Kay were excited to support me as well as my Aunt Felicia that also served as my hair model. The teens loved learning about different ways to stretch your natural curl pattern with twist and braids and the demonstration brought it to life as I talked about products to use as well as the technique of flat twisting out. The girls were also happy to learn that I did not come empty handed! I brought along with me a few Giveaways and full size products to share. Our online Boutique <a href="https://www.stylequeue.com/" target="_blank">StyleQueue.com</a> donated a few items as well and the ladies were ecstatic about winning a pair of nerd specs along with a few nail colors and style cards. </p> <p></p> <p></p> <p>I was overwhelmed by the actual response from the group and I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to be able to stand in front of such an inquisitive and positive crowd. The young ladies who participated asked so many questions and allowed me to learn a lot about their specific hair needs as it relates to a young growing population that are simply needing the information presented to them. After my presentation was over I had one of the young ladies walk up to me and ask about the flat twisting technique in full detail. She stated that she is all natural currently but now she actually WANTS to wear her hair in textured styles due to the information that she learned. At that moment, I knew that all the time and energy put into preparing the presentation was absolutely worth it and I did what I set out to do. I’ve been super close with these chicks since college and love them to pieces. I always look forward to our monthly outings as we are able to catch up and get together even though we are all very busy day to day. I was particularly ready for this months outing since we decided on something a bit different than a pamper day, dinner or shopping. Since we all love the arts and consider ourselves to be quite creative we were very excited about taking a painting class at <a href="http://wetpaintchicago.com/" target="_blank">Wet Paint Chicago</a>!</p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p>Wet Paint is a wine and paint studio in the Bridgeport neighborhood of Chicago. Each session has an instructor, music, BYOB bottles of wine and of course you choice of an acrylic painting to replicate. Just bring a positive attitude, your favorite vino and your friends for a fun time to remember…Wet Paint supplies everything else. From the canvases, to the paint, aprons even wine glasses! My girls Juana and Donnie were just as excited as I was as we waited on our friend Ashley to arrive.</p> <p></p> <p></p> <p>Each of us brought one of our favorite wine selections to sip as we got our “Picasso” on. I opted for a red blend and Juana brought a specialty wine from her recent vaca in Mexico which was delish! We also had a few other guests to help make the night a success.</p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p>After some girl talk and wine sipping we were ready to get down to business. Each participant receives the “inspiration painting” on a card and you are giving your supplies to go right in. The instructor is open to answering all questions and had no problem showing brush stroke techniques to assist those that are more so novices. Regardless of your skill level creativity is encouraged and art is in the eye of the beholder anyway…so we really just set out to have a good time.</p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p>Well, care to see the final results? Here I am with my masterpiece that I can’t wait to hang up in my place. Fun fact…when I was in High School I enrolled in an AP Art Class where I produced over 30 pieces of art work all revolving around the human eye. Weird I know, but it allowed me to show so many interpretations of something we see out of and look into on a daily basis. I used several mediums but acrylic paints had to be my favorite. I’m not sure why I stopped painting after college but this little trip has definitely gotten me more in tuned with my creative side.</p> <p></p> <p></p> <p>Here’s the instructors almost finished painting along with a few of my class favs. Excellent right?</p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p>Collectively, I’d say we did a great job! It was a bit more challenging to complete two canvases in under 3 hours when you are chatting and drinking may I add…but our results were awesome!</p> <p></p> <p>If you are looking for a place to visit on a first date, group outing or even a place to take your children(minus the alcohol of course)…Wet paint Chicago is it! Now I don’t normally blog or make videos like my sissies, but I thought I would take a shot at a blog post tutorial for this style because of the great feedback I received about it. Thank you so much guys!</p> <p>Anywho…</p> <p><strong>I attained this style by using the following items/products:</strong></p> <p>-Cantu Moisturizing Twist & Lock Gel (First time using this product, but I found it provided a waxy feel that held the twist and curls well for my hair)<br /> -Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie (Always great for a little added moisture)<br /> -Small Bendy Foam Rollers (Found them super cheap on Ebay)<br /> -A Hair Pick</p> <p></p> <p>I wanted a different look for a normal twistout or flat twist that I normally do, so I decided to add a different dimension to it by implementing the foam rollers. I started off with freshly washed and detangled hair. Because I wanted my hair to be stretched, I opted to blow dry it out on a low heat setting with Fantasia Heat Protector Straightening Serum to elongate my strands.</p> <p>From there, as though I was simply doing twists, I applied a small amount of each product to a small section of my hair and did two strand twists. You don’t want to oversaturate your hair with product or else you may lose some of the stretch from blowing outyour hair. For best definition, small to medium sized twists are preferred.</p> <p>After I twisted my entire head with small twists, I used the small foam rollers to create the spiral effect. It’s important that for this step, you roll the ends of your twists around the roller completely to have the spiraled curled rounded ends. I rolled my twist tight because I wanted a tighter coil. Feel free to adjust this portion, or even try it on flat twist ends. I think that would give a great rounded curly fro look too!</p> <p><br /> Here’s how crazy I looked with all of the foam rollers in my head :p</p> <p>After letting my twists and foam rollers sit for about 9-12hrs (or overnight, I sleep for a while on break lol) I took them out, and untwisted all of my twists. This is where the fun begins…Start separating your twists into about three pieces each, and use the pick to fluff it up and add volume where needed. The pick is vital in boosting your hair and making it more full. I opted for a rounded afro look and channeled Little Orphan Annie. I feel like I stumbled upon this style, but it seems to work out well and I absolutely love it! I hope you guys try it and like it as well. Since the last time I checked in, a ton of great things have happened and I’ve been all over the place. Most recently my sister Vaughn and I were involved with a very awesome event that’s been sweeping major cities for some time now, Brunch With Eden sponsored by Eden Bodyworks. Brunch with Eden has made pit stops in cities such as Chicago, Atlanta, New York City, Houston, Detroit, Charlotte and just recently the Grand finale in Los Angeles! Many popular Bloggers/Vloggers have been involved in Eden’s event that brings women of all hair types together while eating delectable foods and discussing hair care within a comfortable environment. Needless to say we were very excited to have been a part of it all, meet so many beautiful women and to share our best hair care practices.</p> <p></p> <p></p> <p>The Monroe Sisters Brunch With Eden was hosted at the swanky Aloft Hotel in Minneapolis Minnesota accompanied by a very large group of invite only guests. The sold out event gave local beauty and fashion mavens an opportunity to mix and mingle with Minneapolis’ finest while learning more about healthy hair care with EDEN BodyWorks’ new JojOba collection.</p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p>The second we arrived, I could feel an overwhelming positive energy from the ladies and knew that we were in for a treat. I love the fact that the brand is able to travel and reach out to several women with different textures, lengths, lifestyles and budgets bringing them together to discuss hair.
