Temps have been in the 70s the past week… about 25-35 degrees above normal for this time of year. It’s been lovely. I decided to switch my woolen duvet to my summer one. I love the print… it has this vintage grandma kind of feel.

The weather has been unseasonably warm this past week. I kept wanting to go for a bike ride, forgetting my bike was stolen out of my own driveway when it was left for a minute alone last year. Spur of the moment, my husband and I decided to go look at bikes, and I ended up coming home with a Raleigh 3-speed Sport, bought from Re-Cycle. I love it and can’t wait to bike to work.

Last Friday, my husband and I went to an open house at Studio on Fire, a letterpress printing studio in Minneapolis. I’ve wanted to catch one of their open houses for some time, but I had always been busy. I wasn’t sure what to expect… I wasn’t ready to walk into some place and be bombarded by sales reps, so I was a little hesitant. When we walked in, there was a sign with directions of where to go and what to see (ah… I was already relieved and calmed by this inanimate object). We headed into the main area where there was two presses were running, beautiful examples of their work scattered on tables to touch and see, food and drink vendors, and people casually milling about. I was at peace. This is what an open house should be.

With a Natedog and Crispin cider in hand we walked around looking at beautifully designed and printed pieces. We even ran into Lizzy the Axe (from the Minnesota RollerGirls) and chatted about her press experience. I admit, I was a bit star struck… one of my favorite rollergirls operating a letterpress… so rad.

We wandered into the hallway and noticed another studio that was part of the open house, Hennepin Made, a glassblowing studio. I’ve never watching glass blowing in person and it was mesmerizing. It must be something about the fire and the smell. It’s like being around a campfire. They’re having a grand opening March 2nd from 7-10pm if you’d like to check it out. Valentine’s Day festivities:

• Mini chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast that were freakin’ amazing!
• My daughter made me the coolest Valentine.
• My husband surprised me (seriously surprised me… I had no idea I was getting anything) with a beautiful orchid.
• A fat-filled evening of linguine with truffle cream sauce and pancetta, later followed by Fromage d’Affinois and baguette while watching Downton Abbey.
• Funfetti cupcakes for my family and my work family.
