Hello everyone!

Yes! I'm back again after a long hiatus from the blogosphere.. Though I haven't posted anything for the past 10 months (to be exact), it amazes me though that some of you still get to visit this page and waste your time in reading some of my old posts. Now my blog traffic has reached the 20,000 mark already. Thank you ;). Your comments and chat messages have inspired me to revive this little space-which was once my emotional outlet.

So where and what have I been up to for the past 10 months?

Well to summed it up, my life for the past months is comparable to a "see-saw" . It was an up and down experience of trying to disinter my dream and search for my personal legend.

I stopped pursuing MAN in Xavier- Ateneo de Cagayan.

I resigned from my previous company- NOVOMED.

Got hired by a multinational branded generic pharmaceutical company- GETZ.

Transferred to the skirmish province of Maguindanao.

Lost my little angel due to Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever.

Enrolled MBA at Xavier- Ateneo de Cagayan.

and just recently,

Found my "heart" again in one of my recent trips to Manila. ;)

In the coming days as I know Ill be blogging more often , I will one by one share to you all the significant experiences I have had for the past 10 months. For the meantime, please and I hope you'll find it worth reading again some of my old posts :) hehe. My blog will be undergoing some changes soon and part of which is that I am going to delete some of these posts.

Since I heard Clay Aiken sang Elton John's "Dont Let the Sun Go Down on Me" on the second season of American Idol, I have been an avid fan of the show. But aside from the great and sometimes unbelievable voices that produced the kind of David Archuleta, Carrie Underwood, Jenifer Hudson, Chris Daughtry, Kelly Clarkson and Adam Lambert to name a few, sometimes it's actually the story behind the intentions and motivations of each hopefuls that amazes me.

This year a person by the name of Chris Medina auditioned at Milwaukee who impressed the judges not just with his amazing talent but also with his genuine and perhaps saddest love story in the history of American Idol. He brought with him his girlfriend for eight years and fiance for almost three years- Juliana Ramos. They were about to get married but Juliana got involved in a tragic accident on October 2, 2009, just two months before their wedding. The accident left Juliana at a nearly paralyzed state after suffering from a severe skull fracture, traumatic brain injury and multiple fractures to her angelic face.

I was really moved to tears . Chris just simply proved to everyone on what a real man should be- that is to stood beside someone you love and be their hope against all the odds. My heart really goes out to both of them. They are a living proof that love conquers all. It may seem like a never ending struggle but I hope they will continue to be strong for each other especially during the seemingly impossible days. Miracles do happen and I know with God's grace, good things are bound to come their way.

Sometimes in the most unexpected situations, we will meet some people, touch our lives and WE ARE NEVER THE SAME AGAIN.

In this post, allow me to give credit to some amazing people who truly made an impact in my life this year. I could never thank them enough for shaping my being and for touching my life in ways I never thought possible. These are the people who helped me realize that life, amidst its various adversities is still wonderful.

I am comforted by the fact that these 3 beautiful, smart and witty ladies happened to belong to my very few friends. They are like sisters to me and though we are all busy with our own career now, they always find time to bond with me everytime I visit Davao. And just like the old days, we couldn't stop laughing and giggling as we share our stories. These are the people who remained patient with my bipolar tendencies, who never gets tired listening to all my frustrations and who cheers me up whenever I am about to give up. .I know wherever we are, and whatever it is that we are doing, the emblem of our friendship will always be with us.

Though, she rarely gets to bond with us (mariel, renz and toni) as she is already based in her hometown in Isulan, Ces really never fails to make me laugh everytime we chat. We have that trademark distinct only to both of us- our sarcasm , which actually makes everyone burst into laughter as we start to be mean with each other. Yes! That's how our friendship is- we give each other tough love. Like me, she's also desperate to find her true love, no matter how much it will cost her. As she puts it, when will her hymen get torn? LOL. Kidding aside, Ces is one person that brings extra joy to the people around her. As we keep on saying to each other, I MISS LAUGHING WITH YOU. Indeed Ces, I miss laughing with you.

I must say that RB has been a very good friend to me. Like Ces, we also give each other tough love. People around us would really laugh everytime we taunt each other as we stage a scripted (sometimes not) catfights. I can really say that we are the life of the group. I will always be grateful to him for opening the doors of their house and for sharing his room with me during the time I needed a place in Davao while I was having my instant product training in our company. He's like a brother to me. He was the first person who was there when I had the biggest trouble of my life. For hours, he listened and tried to make me feel comfortable while I was weeping on the phone. He was with me all the way and waited patiently while I was seeking answers and confirmations from all my fears. Though lately I have been very vocal with my "tampo" to him for he seems so distant to us after having his new set of friends, I will still remember our friendship that way. I will always remember that he was there when I felt so helpless. I will always remember that he helped me stood up from all my downfalls. Men. I miss this boy big time :(.

Blue Edward Sanchez
Blue or Koi2 (as what we used to call each other) cared for each other in a very unusual way that even I never thought possible. I really thank God for allowing me to meet this person who at one point I shared with the sweetest and most genuine moments of my life. To his entire family, I could never thank them enough for the acceptance, the congeniality and the care they have given me during my visits at their home. "Ours" may not be an "ideal" ending for the many but given a different circumstance, I know it would have worked better. He is one person who is a living proof that 1) someone out there still exists who want to take love seriously; 2) that its possible to fall for someone you haven't meet yet, and 3) that long distance relationships DO work. Our experiences really made me a better and a much stronger person. While we have chosen to go on in separate ways, I know time will come that our paths will intersect again and hopefully by then, we have already found that special someone who will give meaning to what love and happiness really is.

My Boss/es. I will always be proud that I came to know this lovely and God-centered couple. The humble beginnings of NOVOMED Pharma and to how successful it is now is really an inspiration to me. I owe them both so much for giving me the chance to experience how it is to be part of their family. If not for them and for NOVOMED, perhaps I am still bumming all day today. Thank you for the job. Thank you for appreciating all my effort. Thank you for all the opportunities.

Exploitation of Angels

The huge number of desperate nurses who are seeking for clinical exposure has opened an opportunity for hospital administrators to take advantage of the situation and to lessen its costs of expenses. The so-called "volunteerism-for a fee" scheme is currently observe in almost all of the hospitals right now. And to make the exploitation less obvious, hospitals are fondly calling it a "training program". The principle is very simple- "PAY AS YOU WORK" which is usually good for a month to six months.

While it is true that no one is twisting anybody's arm to participate in these programs, it is still a deceitful act. There is no other way for you to be employed in their hospital unless you participate in the program. So desperate nurses would still flock and submit themselves with a hope that later on they will be absorb. But this is again far from reality. After months of training, nurses are sent home coupled with a promise that they will be called back if there are vacancies. Well, options are given to continue the training for another month to six months but of course you have to pay the fee again. On the other hand, as another cycle of volunteers finishes the course of the training, another batch will commence.

This is how nurses employment system is currently practiced. And really, after a year of having my PRC license, I could not still decipher the rationale behind it. For me, it is an absurdity. IT IS SO CORRUPT and I will never immense myself to that. Dr. Hermogenes Jarin, the vice-president of Philippine Hospital Association gave a lame excuse that there is always a fee for internship. Such was an idiotic remark. True, there is a fee for internship but registered nurses are already done with the internship as included in the nursing education curriculum. And the very fact that the program has become a vicious cycle, certainly it is illegal.

I salute though my fellows in the profession who have taken the act of martyrdom by submitting themselves to the corrupt system. As opportunities abroad are requiring at least a year of work experience, they are all more concerned for the experience that they will gain and for the certificate of training that will be given to them. But here's the glitch. Where do you draw the line between the responsibilities of a real staff nurse from a nurse trainee? The fact is trainees are not at all responsible for the 100% care of the patient, especially when it comes to delicate nursing procedures. Having said that, training experience is not tantamount to work experience that is why certificate of trainings are not honored abroad.

It is indeed a big shame that it is the public hospitals which mostly practice this corrupt scheme. And personally, I am offended by the fact that the San Pedro Hospital, the based hospital of San Pedro College, one of the three biggest hospital in Davao City and run by the Dominican Sisters of the Trinity is also engaged in the practice. Perhaps, San Pedro Hospital has the most corrupt scheme having the shortest period of training, which is one month and would cost around P3000. And yes, they train but they don't hire.

Not even once, have I doubted the nobility of the nursing profession. The opportunity to take care of the sick and see them recuperate back to their pre-illness state or to witness someone die with dignity in the midst of genuine love and grief from family is perhaps the greatest reward a nurse can ever have. We deal with real emotions, with real experiences. WE CARE. It's just so sad that the nobility has been tarnished with corrupt intentions of gaining more, of earning more at the expense of the desperate and willing nurses.

So now that this deceitful scheme is finally exposed and has finally reached the doors of the senate, I really hope that those in power would look into this matter seriously and would put a stop to the exploitation. And to the Dominican Sisters of the Trinity of San Pedro Hospital, Sisters, in the name of St. Therese of Lisieux our patron saint PLEASE STOP THE INSANITY. Remember, as what our school motto says, LOVE SERVES. :). AMEN

My friends usually would asked me of the time I realized I am not straight. They would tell me that later on I'll probably change my my mind, marry a woman and establish my own family. Some even teased me by stripping and even grabbing my crotch just to check for any reaction. I just laugh at them.

My two uncle, one is a priest and the other one is a police chief, once told me that to be or not to be a gay at one point is a choice. But sorry to say my two TiTos, I do not concur to the idea that sexuality is fluid. I do not believe that today you can be gay and later on be straight for the rest of your life. The reality is, once you realized you are a man who loves another man, there is no changing that. Sure, some people might postpone entertaining the idea or ignore it at all, but the reality of ones sexual orientation is just there hidden until he is ready to act on it and accept it. In short, outward appearance is more fluid than sexuality itself.

Back when I was still a virgin (hehe), I never really realized what it is to be gay. My idea of it was limited to men who dressed up as a woman, mimicking their gestures and ways. Perhaps, this is the reason why I never saw myself being one of them. I did not like the idea of acting like one. I know I am not like that and never will I be like that. Yes, I get attracted to my fellow man but I know that I don't want to look, act or worst be a woman! Hell NO!

However, as I learned about the diversity of sexual orientations, I found out the myriad of gay identities. And unlike fashion style, these identities never go out of season.

First, we have the Shemale- the old-stereotype image of gays. They are those who dressed up like a woman. They put-on make ups, wear short skirts and long gowns, wear long wigs and tall heels. They imitate the voice of a woman and even had their body changed through plastic surgery. Do not be shock to see them with big boobs and butts.

Then here comes the EFFEMS. They do not dressed up like a woman but act like one.They are almost exactly the same as the shemale minus all the woman's accessories. From what I have observed, this is common to highschool students or teenagers. The typical blossoming bud.

We also have the BISEXUALS. Compared to shemale and the effems, they are more discreet because they dressed up and act like a real man. They are hardly noticeable, except if youre a homosexual yourself. The ANDRO, short for ANDROGENOUS - the soft bisexual, those who are trapped in the middle who neither look as soft as the effems or as vulgar as the shemales fall to this category. Sometimes some men would excuse themselves from this category and would rather label themselves as a man having relationship with a fellow man.

My friends would say that had they not known me, they would not ever think I am not straight. The reason maybe is I shunned myself from being involved in a too-gay or too-bisexual fashion industry. I am the typical person who loves a plain jeans and a semi-fitted shirts. If you are going to ask me if I am using a face powder or lipbalm, I would say Yes! I guess using those items will not make one gay when he is straight, or too shemale when he is gay. It has become a necessity, just saving your face from being too oily and appear like a frying pan. As long as you do not overdo it, then it's fine. Simplicity seems to rule me these days well at least when it comes to wardrobe choice. An attempt to be Zen -like in my lifetsyle choice.

But then again, it's not really the appearance that matters, it's the attitude that counts. People can call me whatever they want to- andro, bisexual, whatever. My sexuality is there to remain and I am very much ok with it. I hope you are too. :)

Falling in Love with CEBU

For months now, I have been really wanting to revisit Cebu. It's been a while since I had this sort of a bum lifestyle, spending most of my day just eating, reading novels of John Grisham, and patiently waiting for calls or text messages from hospitals where I applied. And finally, after availing the seat sale of Cebu Pacific, I decided to go for it together with my college friends Marinel and Toni (with their boyfriends) who already had their tickets booked several months back.

There were a lot of things that we wanted to do. Our itinerary ( as prepared by the ever "Laging Handa" Toni) included the famous Skywalk Experience at the Crown Regency Hotel and Towers; the garden, water features and foods at the Terraces of Ayala mall; a picture with the Magellans Cross, Sto Nino Basilica and Taoists Temple; casino at the Waterfront Hotel in Lahug, coffee at Starbucks and of course the night life at Mango and the Loft. We were also planning to visit Bohol but our 4 days and 3 nights flight schedule won't permit us anymore.

Our first stop was at the infamous I.T. Park. (It's name that way because this is where all BPOs like Convergys and People Support have their centers). After shopping at SM, we had dinner at Pier One where we feasted on Crispy Pata, Sisig and some sort of a deep fried/roasted chicken. It was such a heavy dinner that we were already sleepy after it. And so to keep ourselves awake, we headed to the nearby Starbucks (our first time) outlet to have our coffee. Just perfect. Haha.

Early next day, we went to the historic spots of Cebu. There were a lot devotees like us who prayed at the Sto. Nino Basilica. A long line of people who personally wants to touch the replica of Sto. Nino could be seen while local and foreign photographers were snapping pictures at any subjects that interest them. Along with other tourist, we had our picture taken at the infamous Magellan's Cross.

It was already past lunch when we proceeded to the Terraces at the Ayala Mall. The Terraces really never failed to wow me again. The landscapes, garden and water features were just awesome. That makes me excite even more for the upcoming construction of Ayala Abreeza Mall in Davao. We would have wanted to try the famous ribs of Casa Verde there but the place was jam-packed with a lot of aficionados. So we decided to reserve it for dinner and transferred to TGI Fridays (another first time) instead.

At FRIDAYS, I am so amazed with the the sporty-inspired of its interiors. But more than that, it was actually the price that surprised us the most. Haha. The foods were quite expensive. You have to prepare at least "NINOY" for a burgel meal. Yes, just a burger meal. Right after that, we just toured the mall and headed back to our hotel to have our nap.

It was already past six of when we went back to the Terraces to have our dinner. We met with my other classmates who were also in Cebu for vacation. Me, Manel, Toni, Jed, Loui, Wilmar, Ces, Lilet, Ralph and Kyzelle all-together, at my insistence, shared a hearty Thai and Vietnamese dinner at Lemongrass. Their signature drink Citrus and Herb Lemonade, Pomelo and Crabstick Salad, Gai Hor Bai Toey (deep friend chicked wrapped in Pandan), Pad Thai (Mung Sprouts, Rice Noodles, Chicken, Nuts, Shrimp, topped with Herbs), Goi Cuon (Vietnamese Fresh Summer Rolls), Som Tam (Spicy Papaya Salad) among others were liberally shared that night. We then ended the day playing at the slotmachines of PAGCOR Casino at the adjacent Waterfront Hotel.

During our last whole day in Cebu, Manel, Toni, Louie, Jed and I decided to spend it at the amenities of Crown Regency Hotel and Towers. Basically, we wanted to experience for ourselves the Skywalk and Edgecoaster experience at the 38th and 39th floor of the hotel. We availed of the ongoing promo of P899 (regular price for Skywalk alone)inclusive already of a 4D Cinema experience, pool used at the 9th floor, a vietnamese buffet lunch at Wang Shang Lo, a massage and diamond peel at Prana, and the Skywalk and Edgecoaster. That was indeed a perfect treat, enough to enjoy and pamper ourselves for the entire day. On the other hand, our other classmates bored themselves by simply touring SM and Ayala Malls. ( Hey don't we have malls who are selling the same items in Davao? LOL).

The 4D experience was actually funny. The movie was about a soldier lost in the jungle and since it was our first time, we did not know what to expect. We were so ignorant about it that we keep on laughing and screaming every time our chairs moved as the plane crashed and every time our faces were sprinkled with water as elephants on the movie were sprinkling water too. It was really hilarious. Spa at Prana was also a perfect experience. We had a time to nap while we were pampered with a full body massage and a facial diamond peel. And after our buffet lunch at Wang Shang Lo, we prepared ourselves for hours of swimming at the infinity pool of the hotel at the 9th floor, overseeing the city. And before trying the Skywalk and Edgecoaster which we both reserved at night, we went out first to Casa Verde to have our sumptuous meal of their famous Pork Ribs.

The Skywalk and Edgecoaster experience was really scary, well at least for me. I have always been afraid of heights that everytime I board a plane, I will always have a tachycardia and a goosebumps. How much more walking in a transparent flooring attached at the 38th floor of a building?. My knees were really trembling. It's as if I could not take even a single step. Swear, I had tears during the entire experience. But that did not hinder me though from participating in the pictures taking. LOL. Visible below us were the Cebu lights at night that provided a perfect backdrop. What a way to end our sweet escape.

The last hours were spent in shopping for the usual "pasalubong" for friends and "pamangkins", well at least for them. I decided to cancel my flight and extended my stay for 3 more days with the invitation of some personal friends. I did experience for myself the nightlife there. JUST PERFECT! hehe.

No doubt indeed that Cebu is the Queen City of the South. Till my next visit Cebu!

Everyone is a Critic

CRITICISM. Who is man enough to say that not even once, he/she has delivered a word of this kind. In this time of age, I refuse to believe that there is such thing as "modern-day Jesus Christ" who is capable of nothing but mere good and positive intentions for others. The truth is all humans, no matter how priestly and sanctimonious they are, at one point are still guilty of scrutinizing others- a time where our thoughts and words sometimes do not play the noble role it should do so. It is a fact that we befell into the act of antagonizing a person, an authority and even an established custom.

The word criticism may mean negative in itself, certain justifying circumstances do not make all criticisms absolutely evil. There are those who criticize because something is there worth criticizing for, say for instance a fraud atrociously done which is common in politics; while others are criticizing just for the heck of it. As the Zen masters would put it, life is all about having a balance of everything. So your intentions, your manner and the extent you criticize others will define whether it is evil or is otherwise.

To set the parameter and to make this article more personal, allow me to focus the heart of the matter to the type of criticism commoners usually do- the habit of talking against a person behind their back. Back in college, it is no longer unusual for me to receive a text message from an anonymous sender cursing and insulting me. To hear my schoolmates, some of them I don't even know, talking about me everytime I pass the hallway minding my stance, manner of walking and even my facial features had been a daily issue I got to deal with. Even in the sphere of social networking, rumors were spread maligning my name that even in my wildest dreams did not exist. To make things worst, I just found out that some people I am living with under one roof for more than a year now have been talking against me fabricating stories that were finely scripted. When you are with them, they are as harmless as a newborn kitten but when you are about to turn your back, they transform into a hungry tiger with their mouth wide open- roaring. Without sounding "showbiz", or acting like I'm popular (which I know I'm not), I just try to compose myself, not minding them for eventually they will get tired confabulating. But human as I am, I must admit that there were a couple of times that I exploded, unable to keep my patience just like an active volcano that erupted after a century of being dormant.

I believe that there are only two lead characters in this kind of story. It's between people who can intimidate and those who are intimidated; people who are outspoken and those who don't have the guts to speak up; people who are courageous in revealing whoever they are and those who are coward to go out from their comfort zones; people who are willing to take responsibility and those who are one big lazy. Very simply put, it is a toss between people who are stable, established and self-actualized and those who have a lot of insecurities. Normally, the subjects would cry foul for being demoralized. It would cause a little discomfort towards the person who have falsely and wrongfully judged and accused them. On the other hand, those who knows nothing but to mind other people's business, it is a sort of defense mechanism to cover up their weak ego and low self-esteem. To avoid being the subject matter themselves, all they can do is to point errors they could find in another person, afraid to loose control over their lives.

So what exactly is my point? Simple. Examine yourself first before you look at others fault. Before you go out and open your mouth, try to glance first the mirror. Try to see if what you are about to say against someone will not reflect back to you. If you see no difference from the people you are backstabbing, then shut up.! Be mindful with your own mistakes before you blabber countless, uncalled for ridicules.

To my fellows who share the same story and sentiments with me, who suffers from false judgment, never let all those break you. We are worth their time that is why they spend most of it talking about us. To the others concerned, I pity you. Stop the insanity. Stop false witnessing.

Grammarian I'm Not

When we had a one-month off from the review season September of last year, I was thinking of several past time activities that would shut me off from extreme boredom. I refused to spend the break either just studying 24/7 for the upcoming board exam or going back to gym which is my effective front for possible dates and end my session everytime with a blast inside the steamy sauna. Since I have established the reputation of being the "irate" kuya of Fratsor, the arrogant "Meldz" of the class and the "outspoken/pasaway" student of Pedro, I created an online page where I can best channel my thoughts. And indeed 7 months have passed since I have given birth to "Streamlines" and the ardor to write and share even more of my stories has never faded.

But please let it be known that this is my personal account. Most, if not all of my posts are my personal thoughts produced after a 360 degrees compression of my cerebellar lobes. Neither did I dream of making money out of this nor present myself as a young substantial writer whos opinion is of great importance. I know that is far from real. What do i know about the standard of good writing? Nothing much, really. Except that when you write just let your thoughts flow undulating every facet of your imagination till its done.

Just like other papers and sites, Streamlines is also subject to grammar lapses. Since mosts of my posts are spontaneously typewritten on the computer, I just try to proof read as often as possible, look for possible flaws and changed those what needed to be changed. Such proved to be beneficial but not at all 100% efficient. I must admit that I am not a vocabulary geek and my knowledge to it are not as extensive as to those of Meriam and Websters.

Inevitably I am aware that I might be criticized for each mistakes committed. Such remarks I would humbly welcome. There are no other better ways to improve ones output but to take pieces of advise from those who have been in the sphere for years. But let's face it. It is irritating to think that there are people who visit your page not to read but to look for faults. It's as if they are oblige to do it. Though my fellow bloggers are not making a big deal out of it, some personal friends seem to have the habbit of catapulting mistakes. God knows how I tried to be receptive, how I tried to take everything constructively. But it's a different story when all these people can tell you everytime you bump into each other are just your bloopers, going "gaga" with every single boo-boo. "Too many" and "disturbing" to quote it from them. Funny though that these people are noy even a better writer than me. They could not even compose out of something with a little time given. I should know. We're friends. And I mean close friends.

Honestly, I am so tired and sick of people stereotyped as campus geek, idolized by everyone yet guilty of false praises for deeds yet undone. People who patronizes "crab mentality" to keep pulling themselves to their own pedestal. What I suggest, instead of keeping an eye always on my page start creating your own. For sure, you'll need all the time of time to publish even a single post. Never mind visiting this site, I don't need your traffic.

On the other hand, it is impossible to measure in this short address my deep gratitude to all of YOU- friends of this blog for your much appreciated readership. It is incredible that in 8 months, Streamlines is now on its 52nd posts, has gained 30 followers, and almost 3000 external page visits! I am really delighted to share our friendship in a more extraordinary way. Your comments, emails, and even personal SMS are a great solace to my little pride- a simple reminder that with this little space I am doing the right thing.

Toward this end, please bear in mind that I am not a grammarian. However, as I am expected to observe correct grammar at the very least allow me to genuinely commit that I'll learn better as I'll write more often. Even more, I am eager and poised to bring another months of more pronounced push in my thematic stories, advocating positive change by way of proactive initiative that each of us can take.

Wondrous Wonderful Wonder

(March 2010)

The day started with a heated discussion on whether we would pursue the escapade or not. We were surprised to find out that there were only 5 of us who could come while some of the class opted to follow the next day. For a moment, we stared quizzical at each other, doubtful if it will be as fun as our previous trips were. And with no sign of retirement in our horizon, we decided to take matters in our own hands. With much optimism, we found ourselves boarding the only boat that can transport us to our destination- Dayang Beach, Talikud Island, Samal, Davao City.

From the Sta. Ana Wharf, it took us almost an hour before we were able to grasp a vivid picture of what we were up to for the next 2 days. Approaching the shore, we couldn't help but to gasp in surprise with the visual panorama presented before us. Right then and there, we knew we had made the right decision . Our gloomy feelings were suddenly invigorated with mere excitement as we set foot on the long stretch of white sand beach. To our luck, there were no other tourists but us. With the assistance of the caretaker, we rented a small nook made out of bamboo where we secured all our belongings and made use of the tent we brought with us as our bedspace. After everything was set-up, we hurried lathering sunblock lotions and creams, then we raced ourselves towards the sea and even went further down to play with the waves. Despite the strong heat of the sun which perfectly blends the crystal blue water and the fine white sand, still the water never failed to make us shiver to cold. Armed with our sense of adventure, we toured the nearby beaches on barefoot, snapping pictures as we hop on hanging trees and huge rock formations. Suddenly, the tranquil atmosphere of the place were filled with our raucous chants and laughs- a comforting experience from the nuisance of the city.

The time went so fast as we were not mindful of it until the sky left us dazzled with the orange bright left by the sunset. We headed back to our cottage silently, animating ourselves with the serenity intertwined at that moment. We knew we had to start preparing our dinner before it gets dark. We starved ourselves too much with frequent swimming and diving. But to our aghast, a dog from a local resident ate all our liempos, leaving us a single served of pansit for our dinner. Trying to keep ourselves from crying out of frustration, we instead lounged on the white sand like satisfied lizards- playing cards and the panoramic vista of the glittering city provided the perfect backdrop We also took pleasure from the powdered sand on our feet, the loud crashing sounds of the waves, the strong "hush" of the breeze and the otherworldly feeling brought about by our isolation.

The next day, we were greeted by a gloomy weather and was delighted to see the presence of some of our classmates. They brought with them more foods after realizing what had happened to us the night before. On a long wooden table, we had a hearty lunch while they shared their own adventure on their way to us (think of a small banca filled with 7 people cruising in the davao gulf for several hours amidst the strong winds and big waves). Pork adobo and afritada, colas and chips were liberally shared that time.

Talikud Island, with its clear waters and unspoilt beaches held much promise to those who love scuva diving and snorkeling. As we were waiting for the boat to arrive , visible on the shallow floor were small school of fishes. Snapping you out of momentary wonder, were the fishes darting out from the sea and the flying kingfishers waiting for their prey.

Indeed, our trip to the island was a perfect get away this summer. Yes it did not start the way we planned it , but we spent every minute the way we wanted it to be. Thank you guys for sharing this adventure with me.

As promised? We shall reclaim the diaphanus perfection of Talikud Island..It truly felt like a paradise- something that most beaches claimed but are not really of.

Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines (TOSP) 2010

Every year, the search for Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines is held to recognize the achievements of several students who have embodied the noble and enduring spirit of Filipino youth and who served as role models of academic excellence, exemplary leadership skills and diverse socio-civic involvements. Sponsored by the RFM foundation, in cooperation with the Commission on Higher Education, the TOSP is considered to be the most prestigious award that can be given to any student here in the Philippines.

Selection process starts at the regional level, where all college and universities are asked to send a representative. Then, each region will send representative/s for an extensive screening in Manila. After a week, 30 national finalists are selected and after series of events and activities, the Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines are chosen. Awarding ceremony takes place at The Malacanang and will be honored by the President of the country himself.

(Well she's not your ordinary girl. hehe. )

This year an SPCIAN made it to the said prestigious recognition. My friend and colleague in the BSN Fraternity and Sorority, Camille Remoroza made it as one of the Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines for 2010. She served as an active member and officer of various organizations in SPC, the last being the Internal Vice President of the BSN Fraternity and Sorority, the official Philippine Nursing Student Association of San Pedro College. She graduated Summa Cumlaude and was recognize for her outstanding involvements in extra and co- curricular activities Among her awards include Best in Practicing Clinical Instructor, Best in Delivery Room Nursing, Best in Ward Management, and Best in Seminar in Nursing.

It is worth mentioning that this is not the first time that an Spcian made it as a TOSP Awardee. Last year another Spcian, Mark Ramon Victor Llanes, my classmate and another Summa Cumlaude made it also as one of the National Finalists for TOSP 2009. (Click related article here). And in 2006, Mikaela Ruth Kwan, also a BSN graduate and Summa Cumlaude made it as one of the TOSP for 2006.

Suicidal

My apology for not updating this blog that often. I try to write as often as possible. In fact, I already have several topics ready to be published. But for some reason, I could not force myself to sit in front of the computer and transcribed everything. I don't want to believe that I have already lost the enthusiasm I always have for this blog. I'm just not in the mood. I'm starting to get depressed with the fact that its been 4 months since I got my license and yet I can't land a job in the hospital. No, I'm not incompetent, I just don't have a backer! Cruel world indeed. And wit is not enough to outsmart it.

I guess I need time, an ample space where I can start to decipher on what to do with my life troubled by a lot of pressures and frustrations. Sometimes, I can't help but to think of killing instead myself to end it all.

Sorry Mama and Papa if I am of no use today. Even if you don't talk to me about it, I can sense the urgency. Mahal ko po kayo.

To the friends of this blog, thank you for your readership. I hope you continue to become a friend amidst my temporary absence.

An Obscenity to End All Obscenity

The Rule of Law is Better than the Rule of Any Individual- Aristotle

When the news about the Maguindanao Massacre erupted, I got worried that most of us would just lurk away and move on like there were no people killed. I am somehow relieved that all sectors of our society are cursing the darkness of the act. It is with no doubt that the most gruesome election-related violence in our history had instigated the glare of public attention towards our judiciary system. Yet five months have passed since the murder of 57 people and considering the strong evidences at hand all pointing to the corrupt clan of Ampatuan as the mastermind, no actions have been taken to make them answerable. The world is still watching and less-patiently waiting for answers. Where is the justice?

Not only once did we question the already tarnished credibilty of our courts of law to administer the most sought justice for the victims and for the families. We pleaded for an honest and transparent proceeding as we feared the magic of the evil conspiracy between Gloria and the Ampatuans. And indeed our fears just turned into a bitter reality as the murder charges against 2 of the Ampatuan leaders (Zaldy and Akmad) were dismissed.

It is clear that the problem is not with the execution of justice but with the decency and legitimacy of the leadership of Justice Secretary Alberto Agra. It is clear that at the very beginning of his appointment, we cannot anymore expect a fair trial much less justice to be served knowing his experience as a loyal election lawyer of GMA and the politically-useful clan of Ampatuan. He seemed to be blind with the ethical dilemma of his background and its impact on his present decision.

While the prosecutors who have been working on the case from the very start are having a hard time painting the exact picture of the massacre considering its voluminous records, Agra on the other hand who have been in the office for nearly 6 weeks was very haste on his presumption of innocence for the two convicts. What other substantial proofs does he need? The presence of the provincial equipment in the mass grave, the involvement of 190 private armies and policemen as perpetrators and the statement of the eye witnesses, don't you think are not enough to establish the conspiracy? The idea of Zaldy and Akmad having no knowledge about the massacre, considering the nature of the crime is idiotic and suicidal.

This is yet another expression of shameless impunity. This is yet another breach of our trust. We see apparently through this heedless yet lousy attempt to protect the guilty from accountability. If our leaders would continue to coddle a clan of killers, then we will mock our own country as the greatest human rights violator. I feel sorry for Secretary Agra for allowing himself as a tool to repay the debt of gratitude to the Ampatuan which was clearly not his but of Gloria.

We are at the cusp of another defining moment of our democracy- of whether our judicature can still prove its honor by punishing the guilty and by rewarding the innocent. We have done our part. The choice to be awakened from the plaque of malfeasance and ennui are now on our leaders. And when the time comes, depending on the results of this execrable crime, we know who to blame, who to praise and who to be held accountable.

Let justice be served!

We accepted the challenge and we conquered it.

I was there when Dean Jeannie Bibera delivered her closing remarks during the Motorcade and Victory celebration for the November 2008 Nurse Licensure Examination passers. Being one of the senior Fratsor officer, we prepared and facilitated everything that was needed for our alumni. Such a great feeling to see them rejoicing after passing their board exam. The batch had a whooping passing rate of 94% making San Pedro College the Top 1 performing school in Southern Mindanao, Top 2 Mindanaowide and Top 6 Nationwide. To add to the success, 3 takers top the board with Irisa Kriya Biag (Summa Cumlaude and batch valedictorian) as Top 5, Cristopher Irroritta ( Magnacumlaude) as Top 6 and Francis Gerwin Jalipa (Summa Cumlaude) as Top 10. We had the most number of new nurses which is 780!. No other schools had all these cumulative achievement even the first 5 performing schools nationwide.

Now its our time to shine. Finally, our Dean and our Nursing Coordinators were relieved upon seeing the results of the recently concluded November 2009 Nurse Licensure Exam. With a nationwide passing rate of 39.73%, the lowest in the history and was said to be the most difficult Nursing Board Exam to date, our batch had a passing rate of 93. 04% making San Pedro College again as one of the Top Performing School in the Philippines. In the100 takers and above category, we are the no. 1 school in Southern Mindanao, Top 2 Mindanaowide and Top 9 performing school Nationwide. While our 3 Summa Cumlaudes failed to top the board, Rio Michelle Renomeron (#1 Magnacumlaude) saved the batch for being the Top 5 nationwide. SPC also had the most number of new nurses with 695!

It's a tradition and we were able to maintain it!

Indeed quality nursing education is our tradition and we were able to maintain it.! I am proud to say that we are consistent in garnering very high passing rates every board exam with board topnotchers always! Never did I regret enrolling in our school. Good thing I did not pursue enrolling in Ateneo and University of San Carlos inspite of the scholarship offered. LOL. We truly deserve the distinction given to us by Commission of Higher Education as one of the very few Center of Excellence in Nursing Education (COENE) nationwide, the only 1 in Mindanao.

Congratulations SPCIANS. LOVE SERVES

Disappointed

It has been a tradition for our class to set up an outing, our means of unwinding from the hassle and bustle student life that we used to have. With our previous trips, not everyone was able to attend due to financial reasons or their parents would not permit them- and we have always been receptive of that. This time however I really wished that all of us can participate. In the coming days, chances are we will be busy with our own career path that would make a class gathering impossible. We decided to set the date just a day after our oath taking ceremony just to make sure that everyone is in Davao. While the absence of June-Board passers are expected because most of them are now working in the hospitals in their own provinces, we are on the other hand hoping for the presence if not all, at least most of the November-Board passers. To our dismay however, very few responded with enthusiasm. Worst even the people who initiated the planning of such outing recanted at the last minute.For whatever reasons they have, I want to respect it even if some are obvious "excuses" which are incongruous and irrelevant to every possibilities that would hinder their attendance. As one Tagalog song puts it " PAG AYAW MAY DAHILAN, PAG GUSTO AY MARAMING PARAAN".

Honestly, I can't help but to feel bad towards them. Exempted of course were those who informed their absence since the beginning. For the past 3 years, I have always been proud and happy of our section- cream of the crop as said by the nursing council.What disappoints me however are the lack of response and cooperation from the majority of the class every time there is a class activity. I could not feel the spirit of being a family, the sense of being "one and united" something that I envy so much from the other sections. I was hoping though that even for the last time, they would dare to cooperate and make some sacrifices. But sad to say, it was not observed. With our recent class outing that was attended only by 10 people, I would like to thank Anton Mervin Wee for remaining true to his word even if he was one of the last person to know. Also, much thanks to Lucky Alfred Yap for extending his stay in Davao; to Irish Joy Cruzada for compromising her time in completing the module for her summer teaching stint; Kyzelle Lopez for always being enthusiastic and for lending me some amount of money just so I can attend. Thank you also to Cherry Pinili, Wilmar Hao, Vina Bisnar, Chicha Cole and Isabella Sabella for following the next day amidst the bad weather. See? We had our own share of sacrifices too but we find it worth doing because of "pakikisama"- of the fact that this might be the last.

To sound righteous is never the reason of this article. After being branded as the bulliest, the most arrogant and the most outspoken member of the class that is the last thing I want to do . Your all calling me as the most bully yet most of you have the biggest laugh every time I bully someone. You call me arrogant for being too proud of our class yet all of you take pride of being in the class. You reprimand me for being too outspoken of my opinion on why we are called the "star" which annoys some competitive class, yet most of you are guilty of the so-called "discreet whispers".

I am sorry for this one guys. I know I will be okay soon. You know that I have always been honest with what I think and feel. I am so disgusted, very disappointed. I guess I just have to deal with the fact that not everyone in the class is as happy as I am to have each one of us.

Still a BABY after all

Forgive me for not updating my blog these past few days. To my avid readers (kung meron man), it is not a hidden fact that I am currently facing a big dilemma. I just don't know what to do with my life anymore. Things are groggy, bewildered in making my own choices which are all uncertain. I am afraid that I might regret it at the end.

For some reasons, I could not feel any satisfaction with the current job that I have. Going to work everyday is a long process of convincing myself that soon I'll get used to it. Friends would tell me to give it a try for few more days, telling that I am somehow lucky to have a high paying job for my first ever work. Others would say that I should quit, start practicing my profession or venture out into fields where I can find the satisfaction I've been wanting. Mind you, Im really taking this dilemma seriously to the extent that it has brought me back to depression, something that I have been trying to suppress for years. Back in college, I was so used with getting myself busy with "acads" and "fratsor". Now that all I do is sleep and talk for 8 hours on the phone, I couldn't help but get depressed. I miss the school, the classroom, the typical noise of a class. I am just thankful that my Psychologist and few friends from our school guidance center are still helping and monitoring me from time to time. ( Hindi naman po ako baliw. )

With all of these, never did I inform my dad and my family that I am so broke. Even if they are not posing any demands now, I know I should learn to stand on my own, be independent and live my own life. The choice to live independently was my choice after all. Knowing the current status of our family, the best way for me to help them is be productive the soonest time possible and help them in every way that I can. Dad has always been so sure that I am strong enough. After bouncing back from a depression 3 years ago, my family has been so sure that with my will and determination I can make it whatever and wherever life will lead me. All the while too, I thought I am ready and strong enough. Living independently for four years since I started college has taught me how to master the ways, the routine and the do's and dont's of everyday living. That was something I am proud of because my elder siblings failed to achieve that. For them, just the fact that they will be living away from the comforts of our home, away from mama and papa, and the thoughts of delayed and short allowance scares them. But with this recent dilemma, I realized that nothing makes me different from my siblings. The past few days seems like I am trapped in a deep abyss of infinity. Silence is killing me and all I can do is to cry and cry.

Last night, I was trying to clean my room when I saw my "Love" Box in one of my drawer. This was the gift I received from a special friend last Christmas where I compile all the letters sent to me by my family and friends. When I opened it, I tried reading again all the letters that were there. Most of them were from my fratsor pipz, yotchies, classmates and some were from my family. Papa never failed to make me cry everytime I'll read the first letter he gave to me (Click here). As I was about to returned the box inside the drawer, I saw the teddy bear Papa gave to me during my 21st birthday with a sidenote "Time runs fast. You are now 21 but Youre Still My "King", my "Bunso" , our "BABY". That was more than enough to make me weep. I hurriedly dialed Papa's number and gave him a call. I was just crying during the call and he was trying to comfort me. His voice appeared like he was about to cry too. The call was cut off and I received a text from him that says "GO HOME".

I guess Papa was right. That was the answer to all of these. I need to go home, take a break for few more weeks. After my PRC registration (which is late already ) and Oathtaking, I'll probably resigned from my job and will take the earliest bus trip back to our home. Even if I'll be missing a lot from Davao City- my fratsor friends and classmates, this time I'd probably spend more time with my family until such time that I'm ready to take the challenge again.

To my friends, thank you for all your comforting messages. It truly helped me a lot. I'll be saying "HI" soon to my beloved hometown. Polomolok here I come! Hehe.

Its official! After 4 years of college, after 3 months of review and after 2 months of patiently waiting, finally the results are in. NURSE NA PO AKO!.

When I entered San Pedro College, I had the simplest goal to plainly finish nursing. What I had in mind was just to be the best student that I can be, maintain my academic scholarship as long as possible and to graduate on time. And in those 4 toiling years, the road towards the end, at one point seemed insurmountable for me. I had to adjust of being in the "cream of the crop" class. In a room filled with bright minds, all were scholars and honor students back in high school, with each wants to be the best, you can just imagine the pressure. I also had to joggle my time between my academic obligations and extra and co- curricular participation. And of course, how will I forget that " mistake" who brought me to depression for months, necessitating psychiatric help. A mistake of my own foolishness for engrossing fully in the stupor of alcohol, heat of lust and betrayal of love. Never did I imagine that amidst all of these, I would make it to the finish line. God, ever-loving allowed me still to graduate Cumlaude- something that I truly wished for. I know I could have achieved better but this is the price I have to pay for being "pasaway". And now and as always, God's blessing is here again. He just gave me His license, His permission that I can be now an angel in the sickroom.

SALAMAT PAPA LORD. ALL PRAISES TO YOU!

Allow me also to express my love and deep gratitude to the people who were with me all these years. The same people who brought light and shed hope to my little world which was once in desolate darkness.

Dear Papa,

It's your birthday and every time this day comes, I am always reminded on how lucky I am to have you. I may not be able to show and tell this to you personally, but I want you to know that you are well loved by me. You are my pillar of strength- as what our favorite song says, YOU ARE THE WIND BENEATH MY WINGS. And I say indeed! Every thing that I am, that I have, I owe it all to you.

You are really my idol. Not as rich as Warren Buffet, not as educated as the other prominent people but I have always been amazed on how you were able to raise and support a family. Our small talks back in our lanai had made me known all the hardships you had to endure. In those times, I was just silent while you were wallowing in self pity, narrating how hard it was for you to work and to study at the same time, how frustrated you were when you were not able to proceed to college because of financial constraints. But Papa those talks had pave the way for me to love you even more and to strive further in all my endeavors.

Back then, I could hardly understand whenever people would remind me about that "unwritten rule". I didn't like it whenever you would remind me to be as good or even better with my other siblings with the success that they have achieved. I really hated the pressure. But now that I have already graduated, and officially living on my own, I have nothing but mere gratitude to you. If not for all your reminders, your advices; if not for that "unwritten rule", I would not be as victorious, as eager and as independent that I am today.

Papa lately, I know that things seem to be not right, seem to have astrayed from all your plans. All the things that you worked so hard for many years had easily vanished. But I want to tell you that it doesn't make you a big failure nor less better as a father. The mere fact that we are still one family amidst all these, it's more than enough, something that even all the money in the world can't buy.

Ours may not be a perfect relationship but I want you to know that I love you and that will be forever. Your wisdom and guidance helped me to navigate through my own personal challenges. Your optimism invigorated me to always be better and to always look at the bright side of life. Thank's for always believing, for being my number one fan.

Now I say that for every bedtime story you read, for every boogeyman you scared away, for every broken toy you fix, for every heartache you healed, you are the greatest father in the world.!

NOSTALGIA: Revisiting the year of OX .

The year is about to end and the metal tiger has started roaring. In the past twelve months I have been into gamut of experiences; shared and dealt with various emotions; survived struggles and failures and celebrated triumphs and victories. And just days before the 2010 become official, allow me to glanced back to various events that  have greatly defined my life this year.

JANUARY

8-10 : RETREAT. I started the year right by attending our class retreat held at St. Benedictine's Convent just a few minutes away from Davao City. Indeed, it was a week full of reflections and stories shared by the entire class. Everybody talked and listened. All laughed and cried. 43 brilliant minds fused into one.

26: SPARK 2009. Our yearbook pictorial. The ladies were in dress and the gents were in Polo. Certainly, the "ultimate- star" class outshined the "OTHERS".

FEBRUARY

5. HIYA TIGIDIG: RELOADED. The horses were back as we relaunch the HIYA TIGIDIG 2009: A Fashion Show for a Cause. Highlights were the students nurses who participated in the event with a very overwhelming support from the almost 3500 crowd. Local designers and national beauty queens titlist also graced the said event.

14.VALENTINES DAY. The celebration started all the month-long blue and drama. Not to mention that 3 months have passed after I broke up with 'him', I was also missing my family back home especially that 3- year old spoiled brat kid.

MARCH

14. ESCAPE TO CANIBAD. Together with some of my classmates, we had our survivor-like adventure in Canibad. It was tough but very fun. We dived at the gift of the blue waters, built white sand castles and drank the entire night!

25. MY GRADUATION. The entire family traveled to Davao. I was on tears the entire ceremony. Finally, 4 years of sleepless nights are over. I was so proud to see my parents very happy and even prouder of having me. Yup! I graduated with a Latin Honor.

APRIL

OR AND DR CASES COMPLETION. The whole month was as dry as the summer season. No scheduled travels and vacations. My schedule for my OR and DR cases completion consumed all my time and money for leisure.

MAY

CEBU VACATION. I had a very short vacation in Cebu to accompany my gradfather in a clan reunion in Riverdale . The 3-day vacation was mostly spent on mall hopping. We went to SM City (which is way bigger than what we have here in Davao),Gaisano and Ayala Center . I was awed upon seeing the majestic ambiance of The Terraces in Ayala Center. It was such a delight to see a garden inside a mall vicinity. You will love the trees, the grass, the flowers and especially the water features. We had dinner at Lemongrass who has by far the best lemonade in town- the Citrus Herb Lemonade! My best buddy/cousin Jay also ordered Pomelo and Crabstick Salad, a sweet and sour Fish and Gai Hor Bai Toey- a deep friend chicked wrapped in Pandan!. In as much as I'd like to try the Skywalk Adventure in Crown Regency my granny did not allow me. Crap! He did not give me money afraid of what might happen. Duh! Jay instead just toured me in Casa Verde where we feasted on Baby Back Ribs for a very cheap price.

JUNE

KOPISTA. Claire, Eza, Hannah, Kyzelle and I loitered in various coffee shops of the City. To name a few, we visited Chicco de Cafe (best frappes!), Yellow Haus, Kangaroo (favorite tambayan!), and Cafe Firenzo. We were doing the same routine almost every other day for almost a month. What a waste of money but it was still worth it. Every saturday, we would kill our time drinking beer and cocktails in Torres St.- the best place to get drunk and wild. LOL. I miss it! Good thing we took a lot of pictures. Hehe

JULY- AUGUST

REVIEW SEASON. Back to being a student. No nightlife anymore. Almost everyday I go to review for the board exam in November. Since I don't have all my notes during college, I had to do double time in catching up with the lectures. Motivated by the cash prize, I would usually top or one among the topnotch of every post assessment that we have in each concepts.

SEPTEMBER

6. BIRTHDAY BASH. I went home to celebrate it with my family. So far, the most memorable. It may not be that fanciful but the good thing is I got to bond and had a serious talk with my parents and grandfather. I loved the videoke and the homemade barbeque!

7. CLOSURE WITH MY "EX". Before going back to davao, I met up with my ex for I thought that was what he wanted. After we've talked, that's the time I realized that I am no longer in love with him. Men! All my tears are not at all worth it upon seeing how misdirected his life is. LOL!

25. BLOG. I gave birth to Metamorphosis! Keep reading guys!

OCTOBER

26-30. FIRST LOVE ENCOUNTER.My First-love, the person that made me realize I am not straight had a one week vacation here in Davao. He's with our highschool friends. For almost 5 days, I slept with them at Apo View Hotel. We had much fun reminiscing our 2 year relationship. Were good friends though. Did something intimate happen between us while we're in the hotel? NOTHING. JUST ALMOST. LOL. We were about to pop it when I remembered that I am exercising celibacy until the board exam is over. HAHA.

NOVEMBER

16. MOM'S BIRTHDAY. I sent a flower package and a birthday card for my mom at our house in Polomolok. After receiving it, she called me-up crying. Mom always loves drama. LOL. Love you Mama.

29-30. NURSE LICENSURE EXAMINATION. For the first time in my life, I was so nervous in taking a test. It was really the "exam" of my life. The night before I could not get a good sleep so I was sleepy during the exam day. God! I could not understand what I was reading. After the first day, I really cried out of frustration. For the past months, I busied myself studying the hard concepts to the extent that I already forgot the basics! Though the exam was not really that hard, still I can't stop myself from getting too nervous. Test II really sucks! I cried while in cab and around 6pm I was already asleep. The next day I am more conditioned and good thing I slept for 11 hours the night before. It really pays a lot to sleep well the night before an exam.

Lord whenever the results will come out, pls let me pass. Not just for myself but for "them" as well.

DECEMBER

3-4. INSIDE THE BAMBOO CREST. The entire class went to a private resort in Samal Is. named Bamboo Crest. What a blastful way to celebrate our 3 years of friendship and to release all the pressures and worries that we have from the past board exam. I will miss you guys!

14. ON JOB TRAINING. My first day for my first ever job training. It's in Sutherland!

15. 4TH BIRTHDAY. Happy birthday Nut2! I love you baby. You have grown too fast! He called me up on my phone crying for I was not able to go home and spend the celebration with him. Even if I had his gift packaged and delivered at our house, he was still crying and was looking for me. God! He now talks a lot! He even cursed me! LOL. Nut2 just made me cry on this day.

20. ABRAZO WITH A RAM. I met-up with my new friend who hails from the VISAYAS. It was really a one night to remember. (wink*)

25. CHRISTMAS. I celebrated Christmas alone. At exactly 12 midnight of the 24th, I got a call from my family greeting me a merry christmas.! Oh how much I miss them. I was crying while I feasted on the foods that I bought for myself.

Indeed, life's essence is too complex to fathom. It may not be a perfect year for me but to say that it was a good year is still an understatement. Amidst the hard circumstances, I can still say that I had another great year. Good or bad,  sad or happy, failure or victory, whatever the story is, all of which still herald the greatest lessons in my life; lessons that shaped my being and what made me worthy to be called human. As  what my *previous colleague once said, " The extracts we make is worth the squeeze".

Ang Pasko Ko: NOON AT NGAYON

Sabi nila ang Pasko ay para sa pamilya. Isang panahon kung saan lahat ay nagkikita at nagkakasiyahan. Isang araw na puno ng kuwento, tawa, at halakhak. Isang araw ng pagmamahal.

Naaalala ko pa.

Nung bata pa ako, ang pasko ang araw na pinakahihintay ko. Madaming pagkain, madami ang regalo, kumpleto kaming nagsasalo-salo. Si papa pagkatapos ng panggabing simba, pinapaidlip ako sa kwarto. Di raw darating si Santa na dala ang aking regalo pag ako ay gising. Pag alas-dose na, gigisingin ako sabay tugtog ng background ng tawa ni Santa. Sa tabi ko makikita ko na lng ang mga regalo at ang pulang medyas na puno ng candy. Siyempre ako naman nagsisigaw sa tuwa sabay bukas ng mga ito.

Si mama ayun, hindi magkanda ugaga sa paghahanda ng mga putahe. Di mawawala sa handa ang mga paborito kung ham, spaghetti, crispy pata, at dobo. Syempre makakalimutan ba naman ang sangkaterbang ice cream at cake. Busog talaga ako non. Di ko na alintana kung kinabukasan sumakit man ang tiyan ko.

Si kuya busy naman sa mga paputok niya. Ewan ko ba ang hilig hilig niya dun. Pagkatapos ng countdown ayun nagpuputukan ang iba't ibang kulay sa langit. Kasabay nun, ang pagputok ng libong libong halaga. Pero masaya. Maganda.

Ang mga ate ko? Katuwang ni mama sa paghahanda ng lamesa. paminsan minsan, inaayos ang mga nakalatag na regalo sa Christmas Tree.

Ako? Siyempre anu pa.. e di senyorito. Bunso ako eh. Ano magagawa nila. Ako ang bida ng pasko samin! Haha.

Sa mga nakalipas na taon, naging ganun ang pagdiriwang namin ng pasko. Tanda iyon ng pasasalamat namin sa mga nagdaang araw na puno ng biyaya. Masaya talaga. Walang katulad.

Pero noon yun..

Nagyong taong ito, ang pagdiriwang namin ay naiba. Pinili kung mapag isa. Di na ako nag atubiling umuwi sa bahay namin sa probinsiya. Nakakulong lang ako sa apat na sulok ng aking silid. Tahimik na nakikinig sa saliw ng musikang dala ng karoling. May pait sa mata habang nagmamasid sa pagdiriwang ng iba.

Panu ako makapagdiriwang at makapagsiya gayung punong puno ng hirap ang taong ito para sa pamilya ko. Lahat na nawala, naglahong parang mga bula. Wala na akong ibang naramdamdam kundi lungkot lalo na pag nakikita ko ang kalagayan namin ngayon. Si Papa alam ko nagkikimkim lng. Tahimik pero nasasaktan. Ang mama ko lagi na lng umiiyak. Ang kuya ko di ko na mahagilap. Ang mga ate ko naman pilit inuunawa ang lahat. Ako? Ito puno ng galit. Ang dami kong tanung na di masagutan.

Minsan naisip ko. Bakit kami? Wala naman kaming inagrabyadong mga tao ha. Di ko pa rin mawari kung para san ang lahat na mga pagsubok na ito. Para lalo kaming tumibay at tumatag? Para san yun kung ang kapalit naman nito ang pagkawatak watak namin lahat.

Pilit ko pong inuunawa. Siguro nga may dahilan sa BRO sa lahat ng ito. Pero minsan, nakakapagod. Nakapanlulumo. Anumang rason ang maisip ko hindi pa rin nito kaya tumbasan at ipaliwanag ang paghihirap namin ngayon.

Patawad BRO kung bigla ay naging walang kahulugan ang kaarawan mo. Alam ko di dapat. Alam ko may mga bagay pa rin akong dapat ipagpasalamat.

Ipagpaumanhin niyo po. Wala akong planong idamay kayo sa kalungkutan ko. Tuloy niyo lang ang pagdiriwang niyo. Ituloy niyo lng ang Pasko.

Sa pamilya ko? Miss ko na kayo.

It promised to be spectacular and it turned out to be one; befitting only the finest fashion show event in the city.

After the tremendous success of its predecessor, receiving positive reviews from the spectators and even winning the Breakthrough Activity and Project of the Year Awards from the Gawad Pedro 2008, the popular horses are back. Yes! It’s Pedro’s Hiya Tigidig 2009: A Fashion Show for a Cause.

While many got intrigued by its name inspired by the agility, fierceness and rage of horses, even more were excited to witness again the craftsmanship of SPC nurses in the field of fashion. The gymnasium was jam-packed with an overwhelming 3000 crowd mostly student nurses, parents and some members of the press cheering for the models as they hovered the runway. The models are student nurses themselves representing their own class who were all tall, graceful and exquisitely attractive. To the accompaniment of the latest hip music, the various designs that were divided into four categories namely: Victorian/Royalty for the Freshman, Punk/Gothic for the Sophomore, Retro/Trendy for the Juniors and Metallic/Futuristic for the Senior were paraded in full regalia in the four hour fashion show.

The top 12 pair of finalist (top 3 pairs in each category) was selected from the original 70 pairs and was adjudged according to their unfussy elegance and artistry of clothes combining the cumulative scores of the preliminary screening and of the final event. From the 12 pairs, which were solely adjudicated in their modeling abilities in the runway, one pair was hailed as ultimate winner with other 2 pairs as runners- up. Adjudicators included high-end fashion designers of the city, top caliber event coordinators, our very own OSA Director Dr. Victor Bongar and the Bb.Pilipinas International 2007, Nadia Lee Cien Shami.

Hiya Tigidig was not just a fashion show. It was also a spectacle fusing fashion and performing arts. Notable performances included the dance number of Bandila Fusion group, the number of SPC Clinical Instructors who strutted their fashionistas outfits and the Spice-girls inspired singing and dance number of the BSN Level Coordinators with Dean Jeannie H. Bibera, all dressed in a regal red outfits.

Complementing the show of designs and styles was the minimalist set conceptualized by the SPC Visual Arts. The stage and the runway were all in black, accentuated with sparkling silver sequenced, neon colors and glow- in- the- dark objects. A show of lights and projection was also set to create an alternating shift in the mood and suggest motifs.

SPC nurses once again unleashed what they do best, not just in academics or in the clinical area but also in the field of fashion and arts representing the different trends of the youth of today. In dazzler after dazzler, sinuous silhouettes of the Victorian dress, exquisite black texture of the punk-emos, glittering bijoux of the retro-trendy and the blinding flicker of the metallic/futuristic all reigned supreme.

The show concluded with confetti and with Mr. Wilmar Hao of BSN 4F and Ms. Gee Evangelista of BSN 4C as ultimate winners. Proceeds from the activity will be used for the funding of the SPC BSN E- Classroom and Operation Timbang: A deworming and feeding program. Truly, it was a one night spectacular. Indeed the horses are back and they did it again.

CHED chairman Dr. Emanuel Angeles warned 152 Nursing Schools to improve their performance in Nursing Licensure Exams. Angeles said that CHED had legal authority to order the closure or phasing out of degree programs that failed to meet the standards in all licensure exams. Those who have closed or stopped operating their nursing program included the Antipolo School of Nursing and Midwifery, Heroes Memorial College, Kolehiyo ng Mamamayan, Cotabato Maritime Academy, Ignatian College, Clinica Arellano School of Midwifery, Quezon Memorial College, Sta. Teresita College, Baguio General Hospital, Chong Jua Hospital School of Nursing, Faith Hospital School of Midwifery, Manila College of Optometry, Ortanez University and the Philippine Union College of Caloocan.

Since the first case of HIV/AIDS was reported 25 years ago one cannot deny the fact that such is an existing reality killing 25 million people already and has infected nearly 50 million more. It has become the greatest challenge of science and of this generation. It has truly changed the world.

For too long, we were forswearing.
