{Wedding Week: Day 4}

If you saw yesterday’s post with about the wedding party, then you have already heard about the gracious invitation we received from the staff at the Kauffman Performing Arts Center to come inside and take some photos in their beautiful space! Just before we were invited in, we got some absolutely stunning photos of Abbey and Jon standing out front in the rain. Jon’s love of architecture made the Kauffman Center the perfect spot for wedding portraits. It’s a truly gorgeous building! I’m pretty sure Jon felt like a kid in a candy store when we went inside to take pictures. The staff’s generosity is something that this bride and groom will not forget!

{Wedding Week: Day 3}

The Wedding Party

With a weather forecast calling for rain all day long, we decided to scope out some covered areas in downtown Kansas City where we could take the wedding party for some portraits. With Jon’s background in architecture, they really wanted to have some photos taken outside of the Kauffman Performing Arts Center. So we found the perfect location across the street under a large overhang, where the group would be covered from the rain, but we’d still get to see the gorgeous building in the background of the photos. After shooting there, and with the rain subsiding, we decided to take the party bus over and attempt some photos out in front of the Kauffman Center. Of course as soon as we get out, the rain picks back up. We kept Abbey and Jon under a big umbrella and got some beautiful photos of them in the rain (visit back tomorrow to see those images!). While we were out in the rain, a very kind and hospitable staff member came outside to greet us and invited us to come inside for photos! What an amazing opportunity for us to shoot inside of the Kauffman Performing Arts Center, and such a great gift to the bride and groom!

We had a little extra time before heading back to Club 1000 for the ceremony, so we made one last stop under the 12th Street bridge, and it did not disappoint. Gorgeous color as the rain fell around us and a pretty entertaining wedding party made for some of my favorite images of the day!

{Wedding Week: Day 2}

The First Look

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again and again… the first look is often our favorite moment of the day! Abbey and Jon had an incredibly sweet First Look. We chose the ceremony location and had Abbey walk down the aisle to Jon, just as they would if seeing each other for the first time during the wedding ceremony. These two lovebirds needed no guidance on how to spend a few quiet minutes soaking up the moment. They also took this time alone to exchange wedding gifts for each other.

{Wedding Week: Day 1}

Getting Ready!

Welcome to Club 1000! Have you seen this venue? We just love it! A modern, bright, and airy space in the heart of downtown Kansas City. I mean, it’s really no surprise that we loved the space considering it’s practically all white! If you’ve seen our studio, you’d understand. We love a bright white room! Abbey and Jon’s full day was spent at Club 1000. They’ve got the perfect rooms for getting ready before the ceremony! Abbey and the girls hung out in the loft space for all of their finishing touches with makeup and getting in their dresses, while the guys got ready in the back room by the bar.

Abbey gave her beautiful orange heels a personalized touch by adding some pearls to them. All of the orange details throughout the day looked amazing! Of course she had to add a bit of red and blue in somewhere to show that Jayhawk spirit by wearing a KU garter. I think my favorite detail though, was her birdcage veil. It was absolutely stunning on her!

{Wedding Week: Day 5}

A Beautiful Backyard Reception

Wow! The details of this backyard wedding reception were absolutely stunning! I mean, seriously, this is some Pinterest worthy decorating here. Erin and Matt’s choice of pairing their firecracker and coral colors with all of the greens was just perfect. Oh, and did you know that emerald is the color of the year? LOVE! Walking into the reception tent felt like a dream. They had lanterns and twinkle lights hanging from the ceiling of the tent and candles everywhere. They even had small candles hanging from little mason jars behind the head table. The centerpieces on each table were all different. Erin and her sisters all brought things from their own homes that they already had, and used those unique pieces to decorate each table differently. What an awesome idea!!

One of the best parts of a wedding reception is often the toasts. We learn new things about the bride and groom, and it’s usually accompanied by laughs and tears. Erin’s three sisters all gave a toast together. They told the story of how Erin and Matt met each other… it’s definitely one of our favorites of all the stories we’ve heard!! We truly had the best time with these two families and sharing such a special day with Erin and Matt. Erin’s parents were so welcoming and hospitable. We felt like we were a part of the family that day! What a great job we have to be able to meet wonderful people like Erin and Matt, and capture one of the biggest days of their lives!! {Wedding Week: Day 4}

The Bride & Groom

Erin and Matt waited to see each other until the ceremony, so after they said their I Do’s we snapped the family and wedding party photos, then headed out with just the two of them. It was a great chance for them to get away from the party for a little alone time, and gave us the opportunity to get some great photos of them around King City. We of course started at the white barn (you know how we love our barns!). We captured some little details while we were out and about with them. Erin carried Matt’s grandmother’s purse, and her own grandmother’s necklace was wrapped around her bouquet.

One thing that Erin really wanted was a photo of her sitting in the loft of the barn. We had no objections to that! We had no idea how she’d get up there though. But this bride (a true country girl at heart) kicked off her heels, hiked up her dress, and climbed up an old ladder to get up into the loft doorway. She is awesome. It made for a really beautiful image. And to make it even more special, Erin’s mom told us about how when the girls were growing up, Erin and her sisters would go up there to play together. There was still some old toys up there that we could see as we peeked inside. I’m sure the image will be one treasured not just by Erin but also by her parents.

After playing with the barn for a while, we drove to a few different spots around King City. Usually we stick to only one or two stops for wedding photos to cut down on drive time and maximize photo time. However, with a small town we were able to go to multiple places since everything was so close. We finished the shoot a few miles outside of town to capture those wind turbines!

{Wedding Week: Day 3}

Meet the Wedding Party!

We just loved this wedding party! Erin and Matt are truly blessed with such wonderful friends and family… and some pretty darn adorable nieces and nephews! Erin’s bridesmaids were her three sisters. From the start of the day we were just blown away by the relationship that these four girls displayed. Erin’s mom and dad obviously did something right in raising their daughters. The bond and love that they share is admirable and something that I hope my own children will share someday.

Now, let’s talk about these amazing colors! Don’t you love the guys’ gray suits?! They paired perfectly with the girls’ firecracker dresses. Yes, that’s right! The color of their dress is called firecracker! LOVE! Just wait until you see the photos of the reception of these great colors paired with lots of green! More on that coming up on Friday. {Wedding Week: Day 2}

A Beautiful Backyard Ceremony

There is something incredibly intimate and touching about a backyard wedding ceremony. In the yard where Erin grew up, with her three sisters standing beside her as her bridesmaids, she officially became Mrs. Fleet! The warm sun, the gorgeous blue sky with white puffy clouds, and beautiful music from the violinist all helped to create a perfect ceremony. We just loved all the touches of springs colors!

{Wedding Week: Day 1}

Welcome to King City, Missouri!

We absolutely loved every piece of this wedding day and are beyond excited to share it with you this week! We road-tripped our way to the quaint little King City, Missouri (just a couple hours outside of the Kansas City area) last month to officially kick off our 2013 wedding season!

Upon arriving to a wedding, the first thing we do is scope out some great photo spots. Since neither of us had ever been to King City, we gave ourselves a tour of the town! It took about five minutes before we made friends with some curious folks downtown wondering who we were and what we were doing taking photos in the street. When Melissa let them know we were there to shoot a wedding, they said, “Oh, yes! The McMillan Wedding!” The population here is about 1,000, and it seems everyone knows everyone! We captured some fun details from their main street before heading to the wedding. I fell in love with some antique Coca Cola memorabilia I found outside the local grocery store. One lady informed me that the grocery store was still in operation by a husband and wife, Dean and Virginia, who are 81 years old and still work there every day. It was such a great start to what ended up being a truly wonderful day!

Miles of open fields and wind turbines greeted us as we made our way close to town!

Both the wedding and reception were held at Erin’s parent’s home where she grew up. Erin’s three sisters all had their wedding receptions here as well. It’s a gorgeous country home with beautiful land surrounding it.

Aedan, a handsome little ring bearer, was so proud of his new toy he received at the rehearsal dinner the night before!

Erin’s dad seeing her for the first time as she came down the stairs. So sweet!

Miss Kellyn was also waiting to see the pretty bride!

While the girls were in the house getting ready, the guys were out back getting dressed in the old chicken coop. Yep, this amazing backyard bar used to be where they kept the chickens. Now look at it! When Erin and Matt first told us about this bar that the family had built in the backyard, we thought okay… sounds pretty cool. When we saw it with out own eyes, though… wow!! This is legit. Welcome to the Money Pit Pub!

One year ago today we were in this beautiful church, capturing memories for the fun-loving Mr. & Mrs. Glover! Funny story about this wedding that I think you’ll enjoy… just before the ceremony was getting ready to begin, Melissa spotted what she thought was one of the bridesmaids walking around in the foyer, wearing just a normal dress. Melissa started to have a bit of a panic attack wondering why in the world this bridesmaid would change clothes just before the wedding was supposed to start. Before Melissa was able to make her way over to address the situation with the girl, she then saw the actual bridesmaid walk in still wearing her bridesmaid dress… identical twin sisters! It’s a good thing she spotted the bridesmaid before approaching the twin sister… that could have been a funny conversation!

Congrats Meg & Greg on your first year of marriage! We had such a fun time with you on your wedding day and still talk about how wonderful it was!! Happy Anniversary!!
