At least 50% of people who join Twitter never tweet. What’s up with that? And then, a few people do all the Tweets. It’s even worse than the 80-20 rule on Twitter. You know, 20% do 100% of the work. If you’re on Twitter and don’t Tweet, what’s the deal? Do you not come across helpful information? Do you not have funny thoughts to share?

My problem with Twitter right now, is the lack of diversity of thought. Yep, you read that right. Part of it is my own dang fault. With Tweetdeck, I filter people through categories like Technology, Politics, better friends, Celebrities, etc. So, guess what? I’m reading about technology, politics, celebs and my friends. I need more.

I’m curious about people with a variety of interests. Learning new things and finding informational jewels is one of the delightful parts of Twitter. When people don’t tweet or tweet once, they deprive the world of their expertise and loves.

Also, people need to feed their blog posts through Twitter. Some people find this annoying. I don’t. Sure, I have an RSS feed. But there is nothing like connecting the original content from a person with them as a person. You start seeing a person’s thoughts in context of their personality. It’s profoundly enjoyable to learn about ideas and people this way. It’s akin to learning in a college class. The professor is there to answer for his inane theories.

There has been some discussion about blogs, too. Are they obsolete? Are they dead? Like Sarah Palin’s career, the death of the blog is vastly overstated. In fact, the blog’s function is morphing as time goes on, but it’s still here.

There’s the Twitter-Blog symbiotic relationship, as mentioned above. When done right, both user experiences can be enhanced. Blogs are and always have been social media, so it’s not so strange. What are comment sections but a place to gather and rant?

Also, Twitter has become the confessional blogging used to be and is now again. Ultimately, our writings reveal us whether we intend it or not. And even impersonal blogs are personal.

Finally, blogs and Twitter and social media bypass the normal media channels. What you want people to know, you share. Blogs are the new press release, indeed. In fact, a smart public figure of any sort has little need for the press at all except for the huge, vast platform called TV that reaches the masses, many of whom are passive recipients of what is spoon fed.

That’s changing though. Most people are on the internet. Most people have Facebook accounts. Some people have Twitter accounts–they tend to be the influencers. Many have blogs but don’t use them.

So, if writing some long thing is too difficult, at least Twitter. And if you’re on Twitter, Tweet. The world needs what you uniquely offer.

Joe Biden stated last weekend that the administration underestimated the economic problem. You don’t say. Really, the didn’t think there even was a problem and decided to jam through Dem spending programs to pay off key Democratic constituencies. Only 1% of the Stimulus money has been loosed from bureaucratic hell. The rest will hit just in time for Obama’s reelection.

The right people, will get the right money at the right time.

America’s tax dollars are part of a huge re-election effort. The Stimulus was all about Barack Obama and the big Democrats in Congress redistributing wealth to their buddies.

If an American citizen is out of a job, though, he might be kinda outta luck.

The Democrats demagogued the economy while at the same time saying everything was going to be wonderful. Remember the lady who said that President Obama was going to bring her groceries? President Obama gravely intoned about certain doom, while gloriously proclaiming “help is here!” Rich Lowry says:

Apparently we were going to experience a once-in-a-lifetime economic crisis comparable to the Great Depression without a particularly high unemployment rate. This was the promise of the Obama administration, which indulged in hair-raisingly alarmist economic rhetoric while pumping out unduly hopeful economic projections. If the Reagan administration gave us the rosy scenario, the Obama administration has given us the rosy apocalypse.

So now, the Democrats want to do some form of a real stimulus, because, like, you know, the economy really is bad.

The problem for the Democrats is that they sold the initial lie too well. People actually believed that the stimulus was going to give them jobs. They believed that the economy would be better and will get better. They believed that they would feel the help personally. They were sick of the Party of No and wanted to try new ideas. More than one swing voter said, “Well, I haven’t been happy with the way things have been, let’s give the other sides’ ideas a try.”

But people of a certain age remember President Carter. And if they have any memory whatsoever, this road looks very familiar because it is familiar. America has been down it before. But the problem is, this time, the road is even worse. And people know that too, even as the Obama administration and a Democratic Congress played politics with lives of ordinary Americans.

Americans aren’t taking too kindly to another Stimulus (neither are economists). I bet the focus groups are scaring the hell out of Democrats right now. Americans are frightened at the spending, understand that the Cap-N-Trade is another big Control and Tax scheme and see the Democrats now wanting to monkey with small business (Card Check) and health care. People are backing away in horror, just as Democrats are thinking about reelection.

Is it possible to be a lame duck one year into office? President Obama is burning through political capital like he’s burning through tax payer money. He seems to think both are never-ending giving trees.

Is Barack Obama at the tipping point? Victor Hansen lays out the mystery:

We are living in a surreal age of $2 trillion annual deficits, in which we just casually talk about “more stimulus”, “reforming health care”, “fixing education”, “cap-and-trade”, while fighting two wars abroad — all the while “not raising taxes on 95% of Americans” — all predicated on the idea that “they” will always be willing and able to create new wealth and now hand over two-thirds and more of it to an ever-expanding government.

The only mystery will be how long will the base of Obama’s support stay loyal among high-paid stockbrokers, CEOs, lawyers, financiers, academics, and journalists, who have enough money to get hit hard by new taxes, but not quite enough money not to care.

My position has long been that the press has too much invested in President Obama. Should either side fire first, it’s mutually assured destruction. So, without any press honesty, even still numbers don’t lie.

And the numbers are bad. Rasmussen has Obama going negative for the first time. Compare those paying attention to Obama verses Michael Jackson and more of the story might be there. But the real numbers are the tax and jobless numbers. Obama’s tax increases would make American wage earners pay more in taxes than their socialist counterparts. From Cato (go look at their chart):

President Obama already plans to increase the top federal rate from 35 percent to 40 percent at the end of 2010. That would push the combined federal-state rate to 47 percent, substantially above the average of other major industrial nations. Imposing a 4-percent surtax on top would push the top rate to 51 percent, which would be higher than many nations that were traditionally more socialist than America, including France (46%), Germany (48%), and Italy (45%).

And then there are the jobless numbers. They’re not getting better. America hits the magic 10% unemployment nationwide and Americans will be disgruntled.

Mostly, the current government policies make no logical sense. Taxing rich people only works so long and then the rich people leave, so the taxes fall on everyone else. More than that, every person who faces tons of debt knows that the solution isn’t spending more money, it’s to save it. Only a stupid, gambler keeps playing when the game is over. The United States government has decided to keep playing and playing. It’s almost like they’re playing with other people’s money.

However, I think Patrick Ruffini might have hit the nail on the head as for the real reason President Obama is slipping:

Are sagging Obama approval numbers due to wall to wall Jacko coverage? Media doesn’t have as much time to fawn over The One.

It could be that simple. And my cynical side says it is. The people who voted for President Obama have a lot invested in him too. It’s not just the press. Like the moderates I talked to on my show last night, Jazz Shaw said, “I knew Obama was friends of Ayers and I didn’t care.” Well, the socialist tendencies are meaning everything for government policy now and people DID know about them before the election and they didn’t care. As long as the average person believes the socialist policy will affect someone else, you know those rich people who make more than me, they won’t care now, either.

So, when the media gets back stateside and so does President Obama, the numbers may well rise. The full court media press will be on again. Barack Obama will browbeat the networks into another free hour, they’ll give it to him and all will be right in the numbers world.

Or maybe President Obama is actually slipping.

P.S. Someone mentioned to me that things will get worse. There’s a reason the Stimulus was structured the way it was. The payments hit just in time for the next election cycle. So, it might be 18 months off and harm Dems going for re-election in Senate and Congressional races, but it will be perfect for Obama. This assumes that inflation isn’t so bad, home values tanked that a person have a job means little because money buys nothing. Time will tell. I know the Obama people are hoping that he’s the new FDR–he gets elected because he cares, not for job performance.

In Florida, Marco Rubio fights on–he’s young, he’s conservative, he’s Hispanic, and according to the NRSC, he’s a losing candidate when compared to Charlie Crist, current Governor of Florida. Crist has name recognition, but more than that he has the right friends. The guys in charge, the guys who direct fundraising, the guys who endorse don’t want Rubio, they want Crist. As one Florida Republican told me,”I love Christ! He’s soooo nice! Plus, he’s done his time. Rubio should just go for State Attorney General and then money could be saved for other fights.” See, the leadership have it all figured out years ahead of time.

Can Marco Rubio win? Well, we may never know, because the NRSC never puts their weight behind a fresh, new candidate. They put their weight behind longtime buddies with ties to DC power brokers.

It’s happening again. If you’ve paid attention online you know that Chuck DeVore has been running for Barbara Boxer’s seat in California. What’s happening now? This, from Dan Riehl:

Fiorina is wealthy and something of a Republican establishment heart throb, despite still being treated for a recent bout with breast cancer. What are the odds the NRSC under Cornyn is going to cut and run on the conservative Republican base, again?

Regardless of one’s personal political choices, it’s impossible to conclude anything other than that the NRSC under Cornyn has already alienated the Republican base by backing certain candidates over the wishes of said base. That would be Christ over Rubio in FL and Ridge over Toomey in PA, which didn’t eventuate and the NRSC may be warming to Toomey.

The objection here, is that, once again, the Republican leadership inserts their noses in state elections, instead of letting the voters decide. More than that, good solid candidates are never given any establishment help and it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. After all the losing the Republicans have done, one would think that they’d be open to fresh blood and new ideas. Evidently not.

I think Dan is right: They just don’t care what the base thinks.

Camille Paglia wrote a nice piece today about Sarah Palin. Worth reading. It got me to thinking. Especially this part, which I whole-heartedly agree with:

What certainly was blameworthy was the chaotic and rushed statement itself. Something so politically consequential needed more careful composition and rehearsal. Why provide more fodder for the vultures and harpies of the Northeastern media?

That was my beef. Good grief, the speech was rambling. If you’re going to make a controversial decision, do it on a symbolic day, pick a majestic setting, manage to keep the message cloaked in mystery, the speech better be a scorcher, written with Peggy Noonanish sweeping grandeur (before she swooned for Obama). But it wasn’t. It was rambling, incoherent and I was wondering to myself who cares about Alaska’s beautiful resources?

Do I think Sarah Palin is done? Hardly. She has more political capital to burn than exists in the whole of the Capital all together. Add in every other presidential contender male or female, and together they still don’t have as much political capital as Sarah Palin. And they all know it and they fear.

But Sarah Palin has to be better than this. Camille is right about surrounding herself with staff. So, here’s my advice for Sarah Palin:

1. Earn a lot of money giving speeches.
2. Get a speech writer.
3. Get a chief of staff so you don’t look like you’re flying by the seat of your skirt.
4. Hire people who know DC.
5. Find your version of Karl Rove.
6. Find your version of Karen Hughes.
7. Let the little people respond to the increasingly irrelevant defamation. The attacks strengthen you.
8. Get a good ghost writer for your book and take a vacation.
9. Spend some time learning about world history/world events.
10. Create a media machine like unto Obama’s.

P.S. Don’t hire Kathleen Parker. She’s grumpy.
