I forgot to post this earlier but in August, I attended the Do Something 101 School Supply Drive in Harlem, New York. As you guys know, I won a Do Something grant in July and through the organization, I get afforded lots of cool volunteer, service, and educational opportunities.

That day, we must have stuffed HUNDREDS of backpacks with school supplies for area kids. We couldn’t stop thinking about how excited the kids would be to receive all of these great school supplies and the very necessary Staple’s EASY BUTTON!

And did I mention CIARA was there?! She looks PERFECT in person! LOVE her!

Teen Time Live is a social networking site for teens and young adults making a difference, and they interviewed me at the event. Check out the video!

This photo comes from one of my many gown fittings before my pageant. When I first saw this gown, I immediately knew that I had to have it–that fiery red/orange was just calling my name!

The back was very low cut and there was a high slit in the front. And the beading on the straps (especially in the back) was just so marvelously ornate that I wouldn’t need any accessories. But as you can see, I wore my favorite blue sunglasses to the fitting!

Last month, I was selected as a Do Something American Express Grant Winner for my work on “The Melissa Cole Show.” This award is given to help grow sustainable community action projects created by young activists and entrepreneurs throughout the United States and Canada. I love to entertain my viewers but empowering them with information about our environment and healthy living has always been absolutely paramount.

With the help of this grant, I hope to engage even more viewers with the launch of our new website and blog (coming very soon). I am so excited and very proud to join such an impressive roster of young leaders!

A couple of weeks ago, I placed second runner in the 2010 Miss Long Island USA pageant. I had SO MUCH fun and it felt great to speak out about my platform, animal rights. I love everything about pageants, but mostly the makeup! All of the girls looked amazing and I was just so proud of everyone!

I’ve been shopping around for a new theme song for quite some time, so I am super excited to announce that “The Vulcan” by The LaFontaines will be my new theme music! It was really important to me that my theme song represent me, my eclectic music taste, and the tone I want to set for the show, and “The Vulcan” definitely meets those criteria. You can now enjoy The LaFontaines’ fusion of hip hop, electro, and pop at the beginning of my next new episode.
