I teach art at my son’s school and this week I was focusing on primary and secondary colors. You can see they were asked to use primary colors on their self portrait and secondary colors on their background.

The kids had a blast creating this self portrait although they found it odd to color their skin yellow and their hair red and blue. It’s a really fun way to learn the colors while having fun!

What you will need:

Construction paper

Pencil

Oil pastels or crayons

Directions:

First draw your person with a pencil.

Color it using primary colors (red, yellow, and blue).

Draw your background.

Color is using secondary colors (purple, green, and orange).

My son is not a big cake eater so for his “Lego” Birthday I made him Lego Brownies and I served them with a scoop of ice cream. They were a huge hit and really easy to make.

Ingredients:

Eggs

Oil

Brownie Mix

M&M’s

Frosting

Sugar paper (found in the cake decorating section at Wal Mart)

Directions:

1. Make the brownies according to the box.

2. When they are baked place them in the refrigerator for one hour. This keeps them from crumbling when you cut them.

3. Cut them into rectangles.

4. Dab some frosting onto the brownie.

5. Cut the sugar paper into the shape of a rectangle.

6. Place the sugar paper on top of the brownie.

7. Add the M&M’s to the top. Use small dabs of frosting to attach them.

Although I am thirty years old my bedroom looks like a dorm room. My kids have managed to drag toys in there, the vacuum and carpet cleaner sits in there. It’s just a catch all room. Or maybe even like a mini storage unit with a bed in it. In one corner there are some boxes full or items I don’t have room or or possibly even need. In another corner sits a pile of clothes needing to go to good will.

Now that I have painted the picture that I am a hoarder, I will say that I am defiantly no so, but this room is the last to get cleaned. With the sun coming out I realize it is time for spring cleaning. It’s time to clean out those boxes, closets, bathroom drawers, and even under the bed. Who knows what could be lurking under there.

My first step was the bathroom drawers. The bathroom is attached to the bedroom, so I feel that needed a good scrub down too. I was thrilled when I had a rather large bag full of old makeup, dried up nail polish, lotion bottles that didn’t even have enough lotion to cover my pinky finger, and even some old receipts to toss. Why were the receipts even in my bathroom? It’s a good feeling to get organized and cleaned up. After those drawers were clean, I gave the bathroom a good scrub down and moved onto the bedroom.

I knew this would be kind of an all day task, so I turned up the music and went to town. I cleared out the boxes first. My goal was to get rid of anything that didn’t have a place. I found so many different things in there. I use to be really into dolphins, so one box was full of dolphin statues. They are super pretty but just not my thing anymore. I listed those on Craig’s list for sale. I found some old jewelry that was dated. That went to the goodwill pile. The funny thing I found was some old Cd’s. Now my style of music is constantly changing so I felt no need to keep these either. After all with Rhapsody I don’t even use Cd’s much anymore. So I found a great site online and began selling my old Cd’s.

What’s better than cleaning, organizing, and making money all at the same time?

By the end of the day the dust bunnies under the bed were all vacuumed up, there were no more boxes in the corner, and I had a huge pile of old clothes and jewelry for Goodwill. I now had a proper spot for my vacuum, my kids toys all made their way back to their rooms, I made some spare cash, and my room looked like a place I’d actually like to sleep. That was a good day full of spring cleaning!

My son wanted to have a Lego Star Wars Party and he just wouldn’t settle for any of the store bought Legos. He wanted a Storm Trooper. My head was so cluttered with birthday planning I had no idea how I was going to do this.

It took some time to prep and think but this is what I came up with.

What you will need:

1 large rectangle shape box

Card stock

2 paper towel holders

2 toilet paper towel

Scissors

Tape

Ribbon

Storm trooper helmet (mine was an old costume, but goodwill or ebay is the place to look)

Candy

Directions:

1. Tape one paper towel holder to the upper part of the rectangle box.

2. Crease.

3. Repeat with the other paper towel roll.

4. Slip the toilet paper roll inside the bottom of the paper towel roll to make the hand. Tape to secure.

5. Create two round tubes with the card stock. About 3 inches wide and 12 inches long.

6. Using the card stock form small tubes to make the gun. Use tape to secure.

7. Cut two strips of card stock and curve to for the hands.

8. Tape on and add the gun.

9. Paint white. Allow to dry.

10. Draw the black with a pencil first then paint with black acrylic paint.

11. Add the helmet.

12. Cut a small hole in the bottom to add the candy.

13. Once you have added the candy tape the hole.

14. Tape the ribbon all over the piñata bottom. Only put one on the candy hole.

Ever run out of space to store all those books your kiddos love to read? No room for a book shelf?

Not to fret. This Little House has come to your rescue.

With the aid of Ikea Spice Racks she has come up with the cutest way to store her kiddo’s books. I love this look so much better than a book shelf and the extra floor space is awesome.

I Love Fridays, because I love this blog hop! I can’t wait to see how many amazing blogs link up! I have found most of my fav blogs this way!

Now… on to blog hopping….

The rules are as always: All I ask is that you please provide the link to the post you wish to share and not your home page.

As Monday rolls around, be sure to come back here to see who’s blog is in the Blog Spotlight!

Who likes the new blog hop logo?
