Site News: Log Stubs

I've added a new feature to this log. A new field in the table to house "stubs" for entries. These stubs are saved as URL friendly strings, 20 characters in length, which will be generated into the permanent link for the entry. I've cut the size down to 20 characters so that we don't end up with a stub like "12-year-old-quebec-kid-sues-dad-for-not-allowing-school-trip-and-wins" again, because that creates a ridiculously long URL. I should note that all previous stubs before this entry will remain the same length, but from now on new entry stubs will be chopped to 20 characters max, based on the title of the entry. This should make for shorter URLs.

However, there's one exception. The log admin screen has an input field (screenshot) where I can manually enter stubs as well. If I manually enter one, it will not be chopped down to "20 characters max". So I'll correct my statement above and say that "for the most part, they will be 20 characters".

Learned Today: Red Light Cameras

Went for a drive this morning and got caught by red light cameras in Hamilton at the Mud St. & Paramount Dr. intersection. Reading the City of Hamilton Public Works site, it turns out that if convicted, the fine for that will be $155, plus a $35 victim surcharge (wtf is a victim surcharge?)... this system seems a bit fishy to me. There's just too many variables. Besides, I'm pretty sure I was past the point of no return when the light turned.
