DAY 461 - 10th Feb - Eldorado

The day started with a startle. Shit !!!

The clubs and committees presentation was starting in 15 min. Practice makes man .. ok me .. perfect. I was there before the panel members were.

Tip: Having constant supply of chocolates in the room (for meals) helps. In today's case they made my breakfast.

I think they were impressed with the work we were doing here. Most of all with EcoBiz Club .. :) :S :( :). They did not walk out on us atleast and some really nice constructive criticism to give too. I do hope juniors take them up seriously and work on it. All we can now do is keep our fingers crossed.

As I reached our mess, I realized yet again - that I did not want to have food there. Sight of A and T did help start with the lunch but only the call from C for lunch outside could really lift my spirits up.

Eldorado, a nice little guest house cum restaurant in Dhankheti. First visited with S and then many times but never since he had passed out of college. It was nice to be back there, and the tomato soup was amazing. So was Chicken Biryani as my friends tell me. The best part - the swing and the feel of the wind against your cheeks. The second best part - the dessert in Baskin Robbins and the third best - the over bridge that I climbed for the first time. Why? JLT :) :)

By the time I was back on campus, TBLA - Tata Business Leadership Award Competition had already started. I was looking back on the day and never came to know when I dozed off.

Dinner .. Long chat with S and D's new hair style .. and the day was complete.

DAY 459 - 8th Feb - Double Delight

As we continue into our placements. We see a lot of thing.

We saw the PPO of an already placed person converting.
We saw an already placed Finance specialization person getting an IT offer.

Today I saw two of my fellow Kappas (S and S) get placed together. So?
They were IT enthusiasts. So?
They got placed for a marketing profile in a big .. real big firm.

It is double celebration for us and a wait .. hopefully a short one .. for all to get placed ..

This is to inform you that Kedia’s Swayamvaar stands cancelled, as most participants backed out after ‘Sheila Kalmuhi’s Interview’. Moreover Kedia’s own mannerisms and public behaviour have also outraged a few participants who preferred staying unmarried than having a husband like Kedia.

Sumit refused to comment on this matter and has been absconding since the release of this interview.

The morning begins with me planning my weekly trips .. Talk about being a manager it is very difficult to plan and move out of campus itself.

Still, as always I do make it on time only to change my plans...

A double lunch - Madras Cafe and Centre Point.
A double gift - A mug and a book
A double snack - CCD and Bread Cafe

The day couldn't get better .. but it did ..

As the results of hard labour start pouring in, the batch celebrates .. the start of something new .. :)

DAY 432 - 12th Jan - CAT Results

As the clock strikes 12 .. haha .. nothing like that .. just that CAT 2010 results come out and juniors start contacting ..

First it used to be Gtalk ping and now it is Facebook messages ..

The word Connections probably has started to have proper meaning only in this decade .. or no .. the last decade .. with the huge number of networking sites opening up and with Facebook forcing Orkut to close down and becoming a research topic.

People have traditionally always found ways to connect and stay in touch. Whether it is through yearly New Year cards or by some regular one liners on Facebook.

So coming back to the results .. what has changed since the last year. To think of it nothing much .. but then a lot. SYNAPSE being a first year activity, that excitement is gone. But essentially everything else remains the same. Juniors and known ones suddenly remember you and you rattle away Maha-Gyaan and give your mobile number. And in the night go off to sleep.

"Didi, we coming home"

My brother's one line call to tell that they (my bro and sis) shall be coming home for some time before their board exams. They shall reach 29th night and thus be able to meet me.

I look at my Dad .. "Lets go some place for New Year"

We live in a different period of time. Celebrating New Year is important. Having to go out to home to do so is even more exciting. My grand-dad would have thought otherwise to both .. but i guess that's generation gap. But my dad - one closer to 'these' times - shrugs and says not possible to get bookings at such short notice.

The internet has made things so easy. Book cab, train, flight, hotel, guides .. all sitting at home. But, that also just means that people now have perfect plans which gives little scope to people like me who make last minute plans too.

Surprisingly, I did get hotel bookings for us and our family friends. So, the plan is in place.

Now, just a secret to keep little they come home ..

Attraction: River Narmada originates there. (Kinda boring but what the hell .. we shall be 9 people having fun ..)

A sudden realization .. How am I going back to college .. Not that I really really want to .. But still I do have a term left to complete my MBA. So how?

For a small batch and a distant college the answer is simple .. Go like others are going. So off go a few offline messages ...

When? 2nd - 3rd - 4th .. later .. :)
How? Flight - Train
And after that? well lets leave it for another day ..

The trains from my home are running .. ya that is worth mentioning. After the Naxal attacks, the time tables are changed so as to leave the tracks to sleep at night. Not too much of a trouble except for the fact that during the day, the tracks play host to late comers.

As I await the replies .. I search this place for the various travel experiences I have had since joining IIM-S and wonder what lies ahead ..

For I am all set to go back using Train + Flight combo .. to arrive Shillong on 3rd.

As a women soon going to enter the world wherein I just have to look out for myself .. Where I have stand for what's right .. specially for what's safe for me .. some things make me wonder .. makes all my friends here wonder .. where .. just where do we draw the boundaries ???

Shared by one amongst us, it started an immediate debate ..

Whose fault is it anyways?

The guy who took the wrong compartment? The women who beat him up? The men who intentionally chose the wrong compartment? The way in which women react? The women who have resorted to extreme ways to retaliate? The society which has long suppressed the women in each manner possible?

Do we need to worry?

that the men just don't learn? that the women have started taking law into their hands? that people are using extremes to make a point?

Is there anything that we can do?

Reservations? Separation? Special treatment?

So many questions ..
Guess the world out there has lots in store for me .. and for all my friends here too ..

What is CSR?

Corporate Social Responsibility ..

hehe .. haha .. do both go together ??

You say it is all for money - for self satisfaction - what ever - it is a truth of contemporary life - in 2010 atleast.

So coming back to what it is ..
For me it is simple ..

Something done selflessly for the greater good.
What that good is .. and whether it is a "good" or not .. can vary from person to person .. perception you see.

A simple case in point.

CSR is when a participant (who never does bakar) does bakar just because she knows that the next person in line will fall into trouble if she does not. The whole batch will fall into trouble in fact.

She continues to speak till end of class to save the face of the batch ..which would never stand up for her or besides her .. and she knows this .. And that for me is selflessness.
That is CSR.

It is very easy to be drunk and speak nonsense ..
It is easy to speak nonsense ..
But it is hard to have the sense to know when to speak nonsense ..

Kudos to you C ..

DAY 249 - 2nd Oct - Pain

The long hours .. the endless weeks .. the travel ..the stress ..the strain ..All combine into pain ..
As my physical self overcomes the mental and totally gives in ..
The threat increases and I give in ..

Lying on the bed as I spend a lot of time with myself, I ponder over the months one by .. each day bringing newness and oldness with itself. The repeated mistakes and the opportunities gone by.

The learning and my failures .. and some successes too .. The people whom I have hurt .. the ones who have moved on .. the ones still around and the ones who confuse me.

I guess its time I had a talk .. I guess its time I started to speak .. I guess there is nothing to gain by keeping quite .. I guess its time for me to have my answers ..

The night brings the darkness of the pain with it today ..
Physical pain
Emotional pain
Psychological pain

I wish there was an injection for each one of them. This would have definitely made Pepe happy .. haww .. I'll never forget the way she used it to scare me .. Big mouse .. hawww .. AMB to myself :( :(

This is MBA in a nutshell .. :)
Good Morning with a mail from a supposed "Team Leader" saying with double emphasis that I need to single-handedly do the full case on Consumer Behavior. As I struggle along .. with all other work in mind and on hand .. the greatest help was by I. She searched all answers from the net and all izz well.

Editing, designing and the job is done. But, my contribution ... zero followed by hundred zeroes .. :O

DAY 319 - 2nd Sep - Leaders

We joined an IIM to become good managers, but there are some who become leaders. Leaders in their own right .. on their own terms .. not bowing down to pressures .. how so ever great these pressures might be.

Today General J. J. Singh, Governor, Arunachal Pradesh visited our campus to release two magazines. First - the second edition of SYMPHONY - the annual magazine from IIMS. Second - the second anniversary issue of NIVESHAK - the monthly finance magazine from IIMS.

But this blog entry is not about him or the magazines. As he spoke on Leadership, he said the following lines: "The best leader is one whom people are ready to follow in adversity .. in times of troubles."

A hundred things flashed in my mind. Many exchanges, many talks, many walk aways .. so many more things. Some come back even as I type this ..

"Do you realize that you have not even congratulated me till now and you are talking about ..."

"Sorry Baccha"

"I need you .. "

"I'll be there till the end. Even if things go wrong .."

"I know"

"... Maybe this way it will be better ..."

"I could not bring myself to do it"

"Gussa hai?"

".. It is too much for me .. I can't go on like this .. (silence) "

General - "Things go wrong if you are doing challenging jobs. Be sharp and clever enough to reshape - rearrange your plans."

Weakness is a perception. One might think you are weak when you are being strong. One can be weak in one aspect of life and very very strong in another. As the General kept speaking, I realized that too many times I have told you about one side, completely missing out on the other. Maybe because so much is unsaid between us. Maybe because I have been very mean. I never told you about the hundreds of times I have respected you for what you did .. for what you were able to achieve .. for the way you handled things.

In getting things done, I have forgotten to slow down, to take a pause, a deep breath .. especially I have forgotten to tell you that you are awesome. I know the standard reply - tu pagal hai.

General - "I'll do everything for a person like you."

I cant forget the happy sad eyes the first time ..

The "Thank you" the second time .. ..

The smile + "I know" the third time .. .. ..

You knew I would not do it. You hid your face, not showing your emotions, the whole time I told you about everything. You continued listening even when I had woken you up before you had slept. You knew I would not do it because I would not be able to do it when the time finally came. You knew if not for anything else I would do it for you. You had that much confidence on me? Even when I did not have it on me? Why? All this for me? Seriously?

DAY 280 - 25th Jul - Suprise

The 20 odd participants who have taken TMI - Technology Management and Innovation - are all praises for the professor. People who have not attended a 9 AM class in a year, get up on a Sunday morning to do so. People who sleep regularly in class attend even the third consecutive lecture without sleeping a wink. So what is this new phenomenon on IIMS campus?

People who have kept themselves away from anything related to IT and Technology in general want to know about it. People who have 3 -4 lectures already in the day want to know about it. People who avoid lectures in general want to attend and see what is happening?

Me falling into one of the above categories, get up on time on a Sunday morning to possibly attend all 5 of the scheduled lectures (9AM to 6PM). I look up while having breakfast and see Bhai. :O

All plans gone out for a toss. I spend a day with him - with breaks ofcourse as he has meets all on campus too. We chit chat .. eat non sense stuff .. then maggi too .. play TT .. then go to PB. Feels like a normal day after a long long time. The clock runs out before the serious stuff could start. But as I type this entry, I wonder have I changed since I arrived on campus? Is the change for better or worse? Is this me? Answers to which I will for sure find questions.

Ya the sentence is correct.

By the way, I did attend a TMI lecture and I regret not having taken the course. Would have probably attended more today, had I not been summoned by the top man of the institute.

A sad week and a sad life .. a wish that there was fire .. a wish that there was smoke .. a wish that .. some higher power would take control ..

The day starts at seven .. ya seven .. PGP10 is gonna have a blast at their first self-planned outing. What am I doing? Sleeping..... :) A shout is what wakes me up. What the hell?

Choodo yaar ... excited hai .. And I have no classes in morning .. let it be. An very early breakfast at 8: 30 .. :O .. wherein people ask - why so early? .. hadd hai yaar .. late ya early .. poochna jaroori hai .. :(

I slept back only to be woken again by dogs this time. ""Tayar hoja"" .. A peaceful drive down to Polo. This one was not like the other visits.

A lamb .. being given blessings. Then a new born child .. the innocent look as the mother prays and the slight movement of the many wrappings around the child. The love with which the child is held tight. I wish the innocence in me would last forever .. I wish someone .. someone would hug and tell me .. ALL will be fine .. A drop of saline water that tickles down.

I'll remember this day for all this and the amazing food and clothes before I attend the pathetic class. Incidentally, it is in class that I am writing this .. having nothing better to do .. what a life .. Happy to be blogging again :):):)

DAY 278 - 23rd Jul - Sports Management

Finally, another of my courses kick off. Sports Management. Essentially a marketing subject with a nice twist to it - Totally focused on sports.

With high expectations resulting from two facts - a foreign faculty was taking it - and that seniors had given very good reviews to it.

Douglas Michele Turco from Drexel University, USA is a man with years of experience in this field of study. He is one who gets prepared before each class with text on the whiteboard, PPTs and assignments.

The lectures are full of content and knowledge, but at 6 PM one really lacks the incentive to continue listening and the classes come across as dab. More so because the morning half foreign faculty for Technology Management was to good.

But excites me is the fact that we have to organize a sports activity on campus .. ya for real .. the practicalities .. but more about that later .. when my team actually organizes one ..

One more day gone with long lectures and me getting tired of sitting in one place ...
