A few weeks ago I entered a photo contest that Poketo was having for their Target collection and ended up winning a sweet goodie bag full of wonderful treasures. Including this illustrated tee which suits my former pixie-cut-dyed-black-hair self quite perfectly, especially because I was going through a t-shirt and jeans phase at that time.

One of the best features of this shirt is the quote on the tag in place of washing instructions – Imagination is the key to every darn thing in life. Don’t let the bastards make you think otherwise.

Most of my t-shirts from my previously mentioned phase are tattered and are only worn around the house these days. I am super excited to have a new artistic one to incorporate into my wardrobe.

While walking out to take these photos there were swarms of grasshoppers hopping along the trail with my every move an experience I did not enjoy. I ended up braving it out and am glad I did as I quite like this set of photos.

I arrived home the other day to find this leafy fellow sitting on my front door. So I carefully snuck past him, retrieved my camera and snapped a few photos before showing him to Lucy which prompted him to fly away. And to be honest I am not sure why I even took these photos since they kinda creep me out looking at them now.

Last night Andrew and I braved the crowds and heat at Salt Lake’s Twilight Concert Series to go see She & Him. An event I had been eagerly awaiting all summer long as Zooey has long been an icon of mine – as well as my celebrity doppelganger (or so I am told).

I have always loved outdoor live music – just not the hordes of people typically associated with concerts – and this one was well worth the sacrifice. Her voice is divine in real life and the mid-tempo melodies were a relaxing way to end the summer.

Much appreciation to Andrew for being tall and able to snap these photos for me – all of my attempts were either sorely out of focus or photos of the stage lights.

The temperatures the past few days have been absolutely divine so I decided to make a visit to my favorite park. I may have been a little overzealous wearing tights quite so soon but I simply couldn’t resist.

In trying out a different lens for these shots I ended up with not one full outfit shot in focus – apparently this lens doesn’t auto-focus on the closest subject like my other one. It does however make me look a bit longer and leaner in my short 5’2″ frame.

Red berries are bursting from all of the trees in this park so it was apropos that I happened to choose my red heart sketchbook to take along for some doodling in the sunshine.

These tights are a plain white canvas begging for a DIY – if only I could decide what image to put on them.

There are quite a few varieties of dragonflies around the valley these days – signaling that summer is ending and autumn will be upon us shortly. Even though the size of these insects is quite intimidating, I do love it when they stop for a moment so you can catch a glimpse of their beautiful colors.

On Sunday we discovered a free Alphorn concert taking place at Solitude and decided to make the journey to escape the heat and hear some cultural music. Each of their instruments was truly unique with intricate carvings and a beautiful sound when echoed around the mountains. It was quite a fun experience despite our oversight to apply sunscreen and the subsequent sunburn that followed.

This weekend I decided to get out the valley for a bit and head up to the mountains for some fresh air and unfiltered sunshine. I always love hiking around the ski resorts in the summer because the empty chairlifts and cozy lodges look completely out of place in the summer landscape.

Alta is one of my particular favorites because they still have a few old style double chairlifts which make for better photos than the modern quad seaters. I have many memories of early childhood spent up in these mountains surrounded by stuffed animals in a cabin while my parents took turns skiing.

I feel a connection with this vast wilderness and sometimes I can’t imagine ever leaving it behind.

As alluded to in my post yesterday Andrew and I went on a little adventure out to The Great Salt Lake this past weekend where we played on abandoned trains and entered the Temple of the Birds. You can’t really see the lake in these photos and I didn’t realize it at the time but the lake I took photos at a few months ago is actually a freshwater reservoir of the Salt Lake flood plain. It is a bit more desolate and salty by the actual lake thus the need to abandon trains and buildings for more interesting photo shoots. It’s crazy to think the last time I was out here I was down the road a bit taking my bridal shots – my how time flies.

I won this necklace via a contest with the ModCloth ModSquad and absolutely love it with this dress.

In the spirit of winning and 70s vibe I had going on here I had to pair this outfit with my cowboy boots won via LuLu’s last year.

The building doorway I stand in has become a sanctuary for the wild birds that live in the area and the ceiling is lined with nests filled with tiny baby birds and protective parents who did not appreciate us entering their temple.
