Yuma, Arizona: A 3- to 4-foot hole is discovered in the plane's fuselage
A Southwest Airlines flight landed safely at a military base in Yuma, Arizona, on Friday with what passengers described as a 3-foot hole in the fuselage of the Boeing 737.

"I heard a loud popping sound about three or four minutes before it blew open on us," passenger Greg Hansen told CNN.

"(Then) a big explosion happened. A big noise, and from there, you felt some of the air being sucked out. It happened right behind me, in the row behind me and it covers about two and a half rows," he said from seat 11C.

Hansen, 41, a regional sales manager for a biotech company, was flying home to Sacramento from a business trip. Some people panicked and screamed as the blue sky and sun began to shine through the cabin in mid-flight, he said.

A building at the Library of Congress in Washington has reopened after being briefly evacuated because of a small electrical fire in the basement.
The fire broke out Friday morning at the Madison Building and was contained to a basement. D.C. fire department spokesman Pete Piringer says the fire stemmed from an electrical problem involving a generator, but the exact cause has yet to be determined.
U.S. Capitol Police say there were no injuries and no immediate reports of damages.
The building on Independence Avenue was evacuated and neighboring streets were shut down.

The U.S. Department of Education has closed its program review on University of Phoenix, finding that the Apolllo Group Inc. subsidiary has made acceptable corrections to its federal financial aid programs.
In its Expedited Final Program Review Determination Letter, the federal education department said it reviewed the way UOP administers the Title IV financial aid program, according to filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
Other compliance issues also have been addressed and all findings have been closed, according to the SEC filings. No economic or other sanctions were imposed.

Great graphics are often a component of great video games, but fancy physics can help too, and last week Havok announced that it was bringing those to Android, along with all of the requisite development tools. That means smartphones with Android 2.3 or up can potentially enjoy the same procedural animations and pretty dresses that we've enjoyed on PC and home console for years, and as the first gamer-centric smartphone with Gingerbread on board, Sony Ericsson's forthcoming Xperia Play got to be the first to demo them. Watch a pickup plow through road hazards, a gorilla get catapulted across a football field, and an Assassin's Creed-esque warrior run, jump and climb with the best of them in the video above. The 49th annual Chicago World of Wheels show opened on Friday at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont offering automotive enthusiasts a wide range of vehicles and activities. From the Surf City U.S.A. display featuring the "Roswell Rod" bubble car (a tribute to Ed "Big Daddy" Roth) and a collection of Woodies (including a unique Rolls-Royce) to the 30th anniversary Chevy Vettefest and an appearance by "Billy the Exterminator", there is something to appeal to every member of the family.

Competition also got underway for this year's Legend Cup with judges paring the field down to the Top Twenty. Finally, the legendary Bigfoot monster truck thrilled the younger fans in attendance with a car crushing display.

The action will continue tomorrow with the announcement of the Select Six and the Import Tuners' Galleria culminating on Sunday when the winner of this year's Legend Cup will be announced.

It's sort of becoming the "thing to do" when people are revolting: find a way to cut people's access to the internet. This happened across most of Libya yesterday, according to various traffic monitors. Traffic from the country to sites like YouTube and Google nearly disappeared, even though it seems that technically, the servers are still up and running. Unlike the previous actions of the Egyptian government, which took down entire servers, it appears that in this case, some wicked throttling is occurring. While it's not completely clear who is choking the bandwidth, the assumption that it's the Libyan government is probably not an insane one. Hit up the source links for more.

Redpark (who gave the iPhone an RJ-11 dongle) has created the Console Cable with the ubiquitous 30-pin Apple connector on one end and an RJ-45 plug on the other. The $69 device is used in conjunction with a $9.99 Get Console app to allow Cisco engineers to use their iDevice of choice to perform maintenance out in the field. Cable and app are exclusively compatible with Cisco devices, however, so no Ethernet on the iPhone... yet. It's only a matter of time before someone makes it happen -- your move, hackers.

Here's where the bad news comes in: a single fuel pack only provides enough current to get an iPhone up to a 50 percent charge, and it'll take 90 minutes at that. So, you'll need two cartridges and three hours of your time just to bring a dead mobile back to life, and given each pack costs around $6 (it's 2,625 yen, about $32 for a pack of five), the entire proposition is rather expensive. That doesn't even factor in the cost of the unit itself: 26,250 yen or about $320. It's set to ship in Japan in April, so get ready to finally enter the future. Nobody said it'd necessarily be a great place to be.

Fenny of xda-developers reportedly figured out a way to modify the phone's APK files to activate Webtop mode over a standard HDMI cable -- with no dock needed as a go-between -- allowing you to experience the Atrix's PC-like functionality when connected to any HDMI-ready computer monitor or TV. Of course, you'll need a rooted and deodexed phone to give it a try, but we hear those aren't monumentally difficult to come by.

Samsung may have been humbled by Apple's iPad 2, but the company's apparently not letting that affect its plans -- without directly refuting statements by a Samsung VP that the upcoming Galaxy Tab 10.1 was "inadequate" or might be priced cheaper than originally intended, the company told the Yonhap News Agency that the tablet will be released on schedule. In other words, the Honeycomb tablet's not getting any thinner or lighter, but something's gotta give, and Samsung's not quite ready to say just what that is.

Eleven workers at Bandini Elementary School in Commerce have been celebrating this week after winning $12 million in Saturday's SuperLotto Plus draw.

The group, which includes custodians, secretaries and the school’s principal, had pooled their money to buy four tickets every week for about a year, said group spokesman Ramon Soliz.

Normally, Soliz said, he organizes the collection of funds and buys the tickets. But this past week, he asked a secretary to do it. The secretary said she had a good feeling about a store in Whittier and bought the ticket there, Soliz said.

On Monday, after checking the ticket numbers at a nearby store, Soliz ran back to his car and headed to the school.

“I walked into the main office and said, ‘We hit!’” said Soliz, a custodian at the school. “We checked, we re-checked, we triple-checked and quadruple-checked. Then the celebration was on."

The group members have decided to take an immediate cash payout instead of getting the money over several years and will divide $7.1 million equally.

Robert Kirkman is busy promoting the DVD & Bluray release of Walking Dead which means we all win since he cant help but also talk about Walking Dead Season 2. First off we might as well address the question of when it will release. It was earlier rumored that it would make a summer release to help spread the peak ratings from AMC since they already get great ratings for FearFest. Robert Kirkman has confirmed that it wont be a summer release. AMC is heading for a fall release, likely in October for the 13 new episodes of Walking Dead Season 2.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly he also talked briefly about what we can expect from season 2 saying that it will again focus on the human dynamic with us seeing alot more of the Laurie and Andrea characters and playing up the drama between Rick and Shane which really came to a head in the final episodes.

Although Kirkman was not willing to discuss to much about the locations and plot of Season 2 he was willing to say that we will finally get to see Hershels’ farm which we speculated on already. As far as what is going on with the writing and directing Kirkman and Frank Darabonte are locked up working hard writing the scripts and as with last season Frank Darabonte will showcase his skills behind the camera directing again.

THE Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras has kicked off, with the gay marriage theme dominating the parade.

In response to the Say Something campaign, 15 floats from groups including Amnesty International and Labor Faces for Marriage Equality are lobbying for same-sex marriage.

Thousands have lined Oxford Street for the 34th annual parade, with revellers maintaining their enthusiasm despite the cold winds and sporadic rain.

Brides and brides and grooms and grooms feature heavily in the parade in addition to cheerleaders, nuns, vampires and dancing Antoinettes.

Tony Abbott in Speedos and Julia Gillard in a wedding dress also talked equality through speech bubbles.

Up to 300,000 spectators from Australian and overseas are believed to have turned up for the celebrations, which snake up Oxford Street and into Flinders Street before finishing at Moore Park.

Two teammates and coaches told fond memories of Leonard, who died Thursday night after scoring the winning basket during his high school basketball game.

Leonard scored 21 points on Thursday, including the game winning points in overtime.
Leonard was pronounced dead at 10:40 p.m. at a local hospital. A forensic pathologist said his death was caused by an enlarged heart.
A memorial for Leonard is scheduled for Sunday from 2p.m to 4p.m. and 6p.m to 8p.m. at Fennville United Methodist Church. The funeral will be held at 10:30a.m. at Christ Memorial Church in Holland.

Barbara Graham (June 26, 1923 – June 3, 1955) was an American criminal and convicted murderess. She was executed in the gas chamber on the same day as two convicted accomplices, Jack Santo and Emmett Perkins. Nicknamed "Bloody Babs" by the press, Graham was the third woman in California to die by gas.Graham was born Barbara Elaine Wood in Oakland, California. When Barbara was two, her mother, who was a teenager, was sent to reform school. Barbara was raised by strangers and extended family, and had a limited education. As a teenager, she was arrested for vagrancy and was sentenced to serve time at the same reform school where her mother had been.[1]

Released from reform school in 1939, Barbara tried to make a new start for herself. She married and enrolled in a business college and soon had her first child. The marriage was not a success, and by 1941 she was divorced. Over the next several years, she was married twice more and had a second child, but each of these attempts at a normal life failed.[2]

After this string of failures, Barbara is said to have become a prostitute, working for San Francisco's Sally Stanford. She was soon involved in drugs and gambling and had a number of friends who were ex-convicts and career criminals. In 1953, she married Henry Graham, with whom she had a third child, named Tommy.
