Panned Pizza Review

I discovered this pizza house from crowdmass.

French fries? Well, it not just another normal french fries. It's what they called Poutine, one of the most popular Canadian's dishes.

So, basically, the french fries is topped with melted cheese and hot gravy. Yummy!!!

I really like the gravy. It has savoury flavour. It's a must-try dish if you visit this restaurant.

This one is Bacon & Egg pizza or what is known as Aussie. The flavour is just right. However, there is nothing sensational about this pizza. Worth trying.

The Lot Pizza! I really like this type of pizza as it has a lot of toppings. I prefer this pizza compared to Bacon&Egg. It's much tastier. By the way, both pizzas have a thin base, which is crispy. I like crispy base. But still, there is nothing to brag about.

So, my suggestion is that, if you are lazy to get their pizzas, try their poutine. Hopefully, you will love it, like I do.

Also, if you wanna get a pizza frenzy with your buddies, this is the right place to go. Why? They have a New Yorker 18'' pizza for $25. I believe it will stop you from eating pizza for at least a week? Hahaha.

Hi all~

It's been a while since the last time I've posted my last review. Really sorry about that.

Well, I'm currently owing you guys a lot of new reviews. Hopefully, we don't disappoint you. :)

I'll try my best to put up my review as soon as possible. So, stick around...

Tank? Quite a unique name isn't it?

This new restaurant has fish and chips as their speciality. Obviously, they also serve other kind of seafood dishes, but this time we only order their fish and chips.

Their Fish&Chips was fresh and crispy but there is nothing really special about it. Moreover, it's a bit bland. It'll be much better if they sprinkle more salt on it.

The side dishes was not bad either. I couldn't really remember what are they exactly. From what I remember, they are potato cakes, fish nugget and something similar to chinese dumpling but it was made up of fish.

Nothing really impressed me but I'm quite satisfied with it.

Review: Ramen Ya

Ramen Ya Review

Ramen Ya, one of the best restaurants that served ramen. Well, they don't serve wide variety of ramens but sometimes "less is more".

Let's proceed to the main points,

This is the well-known Charsu Ramen in Tonkatsu broth. As stated on the menu, this ramen is the speciality of Ramen Ya. I've to admit that this ramen was awesome! The broth was very tasty. The ramen was well-cooked too. The highlight of this ramen was the charsu or the pork slices. Maybe this is what they described as "melting in your mouth". Trust me, the pork slices are addicting!

Besides the Charsu Ramen, we also ordered Seafood Gyoza Ramen. If you don't think that the ramen will be enough to make you full, you can ask for extra ramen with additional cost of $2.5. They really add a lot of ramen if you order for an extra but they don't add the broth, which was disappointing. For this ramen, we ordered with the same tonkatsu broth. The difference here was only the seafood gyoza. The skin of the gyoza was quite thin and hence it broke easily. The Seafood inside was mainly made of octopus and prawn I guess. Overall, it was delicious too.

For the side dish, we got pork gyoza. The gyoza was rather small. The pork inside was not bad. The skin was quite crispy. Honestly, I like the skin more than the pork. Anyway, it was just alright.

Earl Canteen Review

Earl Canteen, the top number one talk of the town in Urbanspoon till today ( 3 Oct '10).

Well, Earl canteen has been in my wish list since I discovered Urbanspoon... :P

With so many reviews and talks about this little and sweet 'canteen', finally I've made a visit. ^^

Let's start with their infamous "sex sandwich". XD

This sandwich is actually known as Pork Belly Sandwich on their menu. I've heard numerous rumours regarding the crispiness and the deliciousness of this sandwich. Well, it's now a fact that I can't deny. Yes! It's indeed yummy!!! ><

The crispiness of the pork accompanied with the freshness of apple, cabbage & fennel coleslaw, and wilted silverbeet, hmmm..., I'm pretty sure that you'll want it more and more....

The pork is quite salty if you eat it by its own. However, it goes really well with the baguette. Owh ya~ the baguette is pretty hard to be cut by knife though. So if you really want to enjoy it, I suggest that you can just grab the sandwich and give it a big bite! :D

Since it's our first time there, we didn't have the chance to try other menu since we wanted to try the Pork Belly Sandwich. Fortunately, my friend tried the Wagyu Meatball Sandwich. I was pretty excited to know that it's wagyu. So, I offered an exchange :P

It's indeed a delicious sandwich topped with zucchini pickles and shaved parmesan. The sauce tastes pretty much like bolognese sauce.

Honestly, I'm a bit disappointed with this sandwich. The meatball is not as good as what I was expecting or maybe my expectation was too high. ;P

But overall, It's still good.

Maybe next time I should try the Real Steak Sandwich which sound mouth-watering to me... :P

Chillipadi Review

Chillipadi, Melbourne Central has just started its nonya buffet about a week ago... Nonya cuisine is a combination between Chinese and Malay cuisines

I came early, and therefore waited for a while before the buffet started.

This is the buffet area, located at the second floor. Lets now move on the food =D

On the first plate was the... (clockwise direction)

Siamese laksa: Not like the usual laksa, but it was a great dish...

Sambal udang petai: The prawns were fresh.... a very tasty dish! =D

Acar fish: Couldn't stop of having more and more... I really like the sweet and sour taste of the fish =D

Inchi kabin: This was basically a nonya version of fried chicken. This one was just alright...

Moving on to the next plate =D

Steamed rice: Actually I was expecting Nasi Lemak, instead of just steamed rice :(

Curry chicken: A great curry chicken.... really like this one :)

Otak otak: otak otak is a spicy steamed fish mousse... Again this was a great dish. But actually I personally prefer to have grilled otak otak, rather than the steamed ones....

Ikan Asam Pedas: Very aromatic and addictive.... love this!

Inchi Kabin: more of nonya fried chicken

Lets start from that veggie dish...

Nonya Chap Chai: Stir fry vegetables with fermented bean curd... I like the fermented bean curd... there's nothing special other than that....

On the right was the Ayam pong tay: Lacking in flavor if eaten without the gravy

Eggplant: I can't remember the exact name for this dish... since I'm not a big fan of eggplant, I found this dish just to be alright...

There were several sauces at the buffet and the best one was the one at the top of the plate - sambal belachan

Next to the sambal belachan was kelabu boknee: It has a refreshing taste... but the shredded chicken was a bit too try....

Achar: Nothing special about this one...

Kueh pie ti: Shredded vegetables in crisp thin pastry cup. Rondoletto like this one a lot, but I found this dish having a strong dried-prawn smell....

There's not much dessert selections at Chillipadi nonya buffet. But that's not really a problem because their kueh were really good!!!

Punget: Taro and sweet potato in sweet coconut soup. A lovely dessert and one bowl is definitely not enough =D

Overall:

Cafe Cavallino Review.

Firstly, I want to apologize for the postpone of the posts due to my laptop that broke down a week ago. Now I'm still considering which laptop to get. So please be patient.. :D

Okay, let's get to the main point~~

Confuse of choosing so many Italian restaurants along Lygon Street?

Well, I have Cafe Cavallino to be recommended for you. I believe that it is a cafe for Ferrari lovers. :D

It's also a good place to celebrate your friend's birthday as what we did.

Anyway, Happy Belated Birthday to Ms S... ^^

For the appetiser we ordered Pumpkin Soup and Wedges with Chili Sauce and Sour Cream

For the Pumpkin Soup, I did not find anything special with it. It's quite tasty and creamy. Still passable.

Wedges with Chili Sauce and Sour Cream. Well, the wedges is just like any other wedges. Again, nothing much special about this one but it makes a good starter for crumbling stomach. The sweet and sour cream is a bit tasteless though. You need to dip a whole lot of it in order to get the sour taste.

Next,

Bocconcini bread. At first I've mistaken this bread as garlic bread as they look very similar. However, their taste is quite different. This Bocconcini bread is made up of herb bread with Bocconcini Cheese. There is an alluring fragrant from the bread which will make you impatient to try this bread. The cheese is yummy!!! I like it a lot. Also, the bread added the sense of crispiness to the dish. Yum~~

This one? It's called Agnolotti Doriano. Basically, it's a kind of ravioli filled with beef and served with bolognese sauce and parsley. Overall, it's not bad. However, I didn't find it as tasty after a few bites. I guess it's because of the beef that is inside the agnolotti which I found a bit plain.

This pizza is named after the cafe, Cavallino. According to the description, this pizza contains sauce, mozzarella cheese, fresh tomatoes, olives, parsley, Proscuitto(Ham), Rucola (roquette salad), shaved parmesan, goat cheese, bruschetta. Quite a long description isn't it? Yea...

I didn't expect the pizza to suit my taste. Surprisingly, this one is delicious. The crispiness of the base, accompanied with the freshness of the rucola and tomatoes, created a great combination! Don't forget, there is also Ham on the pizza which gives extra indulgence to your mouth.

Do you notice something different with this pizza? Ya! It's a combination of "American" and "Lygon Special". For some of you who loves pizza, American maybe a wise choice to try. Personally, I felt that the highlight of the night is the Lygon Special. Wonderful combination of Ham, Mushroom, Hot salami, mild peppers, pineapple and prawns is ready to shake your mouth with a blazing sensation! So far, in Melbourne, I think this pizza is the best pizza I've ever had. Well, I have not been staying too long here. Probably you can give me suggestion if you don't agree with this. :D

There is spiciness and sourness in the pizza which I love the most. I really feel like eating this pizza again. ><

Actually, we also ordered a cake, which I believed to be a triple chocolate cake. I can't really remember the exact name. The cake was just awesome! There is a plenty of chocolate in it! For a chocoholic like me, I love everything with chocolate... :P

Sorry that I forgot to take the picture of the chocolate cake since it's a birthday cake for Ms S. :D

Recipe: Pork chop with pasta

Pork chop with pasta

Ingredients:

Pork chops

Salt

Pepper

Masterfood ™ Steak seasoning

Olive oil

Lemon

Starch

Pasta of choice (I used canalini for this one)

Salad

Procedures:

1. Cook pasta according to instructions.

2. While waiting for pasta to cook, season the chops generously with salt, pepper and steak seasoning on both sides. Press to season into the flesh.

3. For more taste, leave the chops with seasoning for about 20 minutes. Recommended to prepare salad at this time to be served with the pasta.

4. Heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Add chops, press and leave alone for about 5 minutes to brown. Turn the chops over, press again, and leave for another 2 minutes.

5. Squeeze lemon juice around the chops.

6. Remove chops and place on top of the cooked pasta.

7. Leave the oil in the pan. Add in some water and starch, mix to preferred thickness of sauce. Add in more steak seasoning and lemon juice.

8. Pour it over the chops and the pasta.

9.Serve with salad on the side.

Recipe: French Toast with Honey & Lemon

French toast with honey & lemon

The entire process is pretty standardized, as French toast is extremely common. The special part is just the honey and lemon, which gives a very different taste to the toast.

A friend of mine pretty much soaks her toast in honey/syrup. People who love sweet stuff could probably try that. (Something I haven’t done, as I don’t like my food too sweet.)

Ingredients:

- 3 eggs

- ¼ cup milk

- 1 tsp sugar

- Honey

- Pinch salt

- 7 slices bread

- Lemon

Procedures:

1. Beat the eggs, add in milk, sugar, 1 tbsp honey and pinch salt. Mix well.

This is not much different from the ordinary French toast, except for the added honey in the mixture. It brings a different taste and also adds crisp to the toast.

2. Pour oil into pan over medium heat.

3. Cut bread into half to make triangular slices.

4. Dip bread into the mixture, make sure all parts of the bread is covered. Put the bread into the oil to fry.

5. Remove from pan when brown.

6. Drizzle with more honey and lemon juice to serve. Add butter if desired.

Recipe: Swan Choux Pastry

Swan Choux Pastry

Equipments:
Whisk
Piping bag
Wooden spoon
2 Pots
Baking trays
Oil spray/ greaseproof paper
Spatula
Strainer

Ingredients:
*Choux paste
240 ml water
80 gm butter cubed
160 gm flour
4-5 eggs

*Cream filling (Cream Chantilly)
100 ml thickened cream
1 tsp vanilla essence
2 tbs sugar
few drops of brandy (optional)

Making filling:
Put cream, vanilla essence, sugar in a bowl and whisk until stiff peak

Put in piping bag, put in fridge

Making Choux Paste :

1. Heat up water and butter in a pot, bring to boil

2. Once it’s boiling put the flour at once and stir with wooden spoon, lower the heat

3. Stir continuously until it’s combined well
4. Take off from the stove and continue stirring until cooling down à set aside

5. Beat the eggs, put gradually into the pot ( the paste), pour the egg a little bit by a little bit until it’s mixed well ( stir continuously in fast speed otherwise it will split)

6. Check the consistency, not too runny but not too thick

7. Divide into 2 part ( ¾ and ¼ )
8. For the body : use the ¾ part put in the piping bag with star nozzle
9. For the head : use the ¼ part put in the piping bag with small round nozzle
10. Spray baking tray with oil or put the greaseproof paper to prevent sticking
11. Pipe the choux paste

12. Reheat the oven into 220°C, it must be reheated before to make sure the temperature is high
13. Put in oven at 220°C for 10 minutes, don’t open the oven for the first 10 minutes because it’s very important that the mixture is raising up perfectly, must be double in size. ( it could take more than 10 minutes for raising up, depends on the oven and the temperature, therefore always keep an eye on the oven!)
14. Then, lower the temperature to 170°C and continue baking until it’s golden brown evenly in colour about 5-10 minutes.
15. Take out from the oven, let it rest.

16. Cut the choux pastry as shown below

17. Pipe the Chantilly cream

18. Follow the steps as shown by the pictures below

19. Garnish with icing sugar and it's done!!!

Recipe: Baked Lemon Cheesecake

Baked Lemon Cheesecake

Ingredients:

1 pack cream cheese

- 1/3 cup milk

- 2 egg yolks

- 2 tbsp lemon juice

- 1 tbsp lemon zest

- 1/3 tsp vanilla essence

- 1/3 cup white sugar

- 3 tbsp self-raising flour

- 1 ½ tsp corn starch

- 2 egg whites

- 1/3 tsp cream of tartar

Procedures:

1. Preheat the oven to 175 degrees.

2.Warm the cream cheese and milk in a saucepan over medium-low heat. Set aside.

3. Beat egg yolks with half the sugar. Add in lemon juice, zest and vanilla essence.

4. Fold the cream cheese into the yolk mixture.

5. Sift in flour and corn starch. Stir until blended.

6. In another bowl, whip the egg whites with cream of tartar. Sprinkle in the rest of the sugar.

7. Fold the egg white mixture into the cream cheese.

8. Pour the blended mixture into a baking tin.

9. Pour water in the baking sheet until half full.

10. Bake for 20 minutes. Reduce temperature to 150 degrees and bake for another 15 minutes.

Sorry the picture doesn’t look very appealing! Was a little in a hurry to get the cake done before the potluck started! Could have done some garnishing.

I personally prefer to have the cake warm, when it first comes out of the oven. I’ve found out that most people like it chilled though.

Recipe: Cantonese Beef Fried Rice Noodles (Hor Fun)

Cantonese Beef Fried Rice Noodles (Hor Fun)

Ingredients:

Sliced Beef

Garlic

Chives

Spring Onions

Ginger

Bean Sprout

Rice Noodles (Hor Fun)

Preparation:

1. Marinate the Sliced Beef with Dark Soya Sauce, Soya Sauce, Sesame Oil and Chinese Wine.

2. Chop the garlic. Slice the spring onions, chives and ginger.

3. When you first bought the rice noodle in a packet, all of them are overlapping each other. Therefore, you will need to separate them as shown in the picture. Patience is required for this step.

Cooking:

1. Heat the frying pan with oil.

2. Stir fry the marinated beef first then remove it from the pan.

3. Clean the frying pan and heat with oil again.

4. Add in the garlic, chives, ginger and spring onion. Stir fry them until the spring onions are soften.

5. Add in the rice noodles and spread the dark soya sauce over them.

6. Keep frying and you will notice the importance of step 3 in preparation which required you to separate the rice noodle so that they won’t stick to each other.

7. When the rice noodles are soften and turned slightly transparent, you are allowed to add in the pre-fried marinated beef.

8. Add in the bean sprout and continue frying.

9. Finally, its done!

Review: Oriental Tea House

Oriental Tea House Review

First of all, big thanks to JS for the treat at Oriental Tea House. I've heard that Oriental Tea House serves really good dumplings, but expensive at the same time....

Oriental Tea House also sells varieties of tea, which I've yet to try. Unfortunately, this was the only shot I could get inside the restaurant as taking photos of the restaurant was not allowed :(

To start with was the prawn toast. Crispy and you can taste the prawn... yummm =D

This was the fried prawn dumplings. Indeed, they've got really good dumplings. And the mayonnaise gave perfect kick to it....

Next was the chinese broccoli with oyster sauce. The chinese broccoli was cooked well. A simple yet delicious dish. And also this dish was way better than the one at New Kum Den

I was a bit disappointed with their Xiao Long Bao. It was too dry!! That's the only problem, I guess. For the meat: it was tasty =D

A definitely must have dish when you're having yum cha. Their siu mai was awesome!!!! It was full of flavor... Just by looking at it, makes me hungry =P

I'm not sure whether I have to upload this one or not. But I have something to say about their steamed rice. This was too little!!!! and it was too expensive for a bowl of steamed rice ( $ 3 as far as I remember) :(

This was the best!!!! This was Crispy shredded steak. It was beef in sweet sour and chili sauce with capsicum... A great dish and definitely a must-try.

Nothing impressive with their pan-fried dumplings. Still a great dish too!! =D

And the last one was fried chocolate dumplings. A great dessert!!! but I thought that the chocolate fillings were too little... other than that, Perfect!!! =D

Overall, the food at Oriental Tea House was great. But the biggest problem was the price. It was too expensive and the portion was small also. Take for example the siu mai. 3 pcs of siu mai was priced at AUD 6. It was over-priced, I guess. Will I come back? Probably yes, but just for high tea as I need to eat a lot for lunch or dinner =P

In conclusion:

Han Guuk Guan Review

Looking for a good Korean restaurant in CBD?

Han Guuk Guan is one of the best Korean restaurant around. :D

They serve a wide variety of Korean food including Korean BBQ.

What's more is that they have a 50% off for BBQ every monday.

I've tried their Korean BBQ once, but they limit the choice of the BBQ that is on promotion. I ordered beef bulgogi, spicy squid and lastly spicy chicken. They were quite impressive.

The beef bulgogi was pretty juicy and yummy~

The spicy squid was rather disappointing since I had a high expectation for this one. It's not so bad but the squid was a bit tasteless.

Spicy chicken? It's a good choice too. Not really that good but not so bad either.

I'm sorry that I don't have pictures for the BBQ. :(

Well, let's move on.

As some of you might have known this dish, it is called Jjajangmyun or Korean Black Bean Paste Noodles. So far I think this is the best Jjajangmyun that I've found in Melbourne. The flavour of the black bean sauce was just right. Moreover, it's not as sweet as some other restaurants might serve it. The hand made noodle was chewy too. If you like Korean dishes, I recommend this dish to you. :D

"Isn't this dish the same as the previous one?"

Well, it's similar but this one is the variety of Jjajangmyun which is known as Samsun Jjajangmyun or Seafood Black Bean Noodles. Personally, I prefer this one rather than the usual Jjajangmyun. I might be biased since I love seafood. :P

I found that the paste of this dish is thicker than the usual Jjajangmyun which made it more delicious. The seafood inside that I could notice, was just prawns and slices of octopus. There was a bit of spicy sensation in Samsun Jjajangmyun which would help to increase your appetite and also gave more variety to its taste.

This dish is known as the highlight of Han Guuk Guan. Spicy and Sweet Chicken. I believe that you will not be disappointed by this dish. Its sweetness and spiciness will pamper your palate and make you crave for it even more. The serving was large too. I shared this dish with 3 other friends.

Well, this one is actually ordered by Celeste. I'm not really sure about the name of the dish. Basically, it's just short ribs cooked with eggs and noodles in beef broth. There is nothing special with this dish. The beef broth is a bit bland. I don't really recommend this dish.

As usual, there are always side dishes accompanying your meal in every Korean Restaurant. I don't know why but I really like the kimchi here. :p

Intersection Cafe Review

Hi everyone!!!!

This was my second time to have dinner at Intersection Cafe.... and if you wanna see my previous post on Intersection Cafe, just click on this link ...

Last time I was disappointed with their pizza, but this time was alright... I went back really because of the promotion they have every Thursday evening... All pastas and pizzas are half-price!!!! =D

This was the BBQ Chicken pizza (Cheese, Chicken, BBQ Sauce and Mushroom) well it's not really bad. I really love the crust. The taste was alright... nothing special about it...

Next was the Aussie Pizza (Tomato, Cheese, Shredded Ham, Egg) This was not bad either. But this one was a bit too salty... and about the egg? didn't make big difference with or without it...

And the last pizza was the Americana Pizza ( Tomato, Cheese, Capsicum, Salami)... This pizza was quite nice actually, but again there's really nothing special about this pizza...

Intersection Cafe is really value for money, especially on Thursdays. If there's no such promotion, I think the pizzas are a bit over-priced.

The verdict...

Price: 5/10

Food: 6.5/10

Service: 6/10

Overall: 5/10

Estimated price per person: AUD 15

Note: Intersection cafe has special promotion on Thursday. All pizzas and pastas are only half price!!!

Recipe: Indonesian Simple Balado Potato

Indonesian Simple Balado Potato

Ingredients:

3 potatoes

ABC chili sauce (Recommended)

Salt

Sausages (according to preference)

Preparation:

1. Wash the potatoes and peel them

2. Dice the potatoes as shown below

3. Cut the sausages into small pieces

Cooking:

1. Heat up enough cooking oil to deep fried the diced potatoes.

2. DO NOT fully cook the potatoes as we are going to fry it again later with the sausages

3. Remove the half-fried potatoes from the frying pan to drip the oil.

4. Next, if there is too much oil on the pan please remove part of it. We only need about half of the oil to fry the sausages.

5. Fried the sausages until it is cooked.

6. Put the potatoes back onto the frying pan. Fried it for a while until all the potatoes are cooked.

7. Add in the ABC chili sauce and mixed them well. The amount of the sauce depends on your preference. The more the better but it again depends on your ability to take spicy food. :D

8. Add a few shakes of salt and mixed them.

9. Serve while it's hot~ :D

It's been quite a while since my last post. Well, everyone gets busier since the end of the year is getting closer. But still, you have to spare some time to check our blog :P

I'm gonna introduce you to a new member of Merveilles Family today...

She is a young and cheerful girl who specialize in cookery. Moreover, she is also interested in fusion between western and french cuisines.

I'm sure that you want to know more about her. Okay, I'll tell you her favourite dish to cook. It's called Osso Bucco Cremolata! Don't feel bad if you don't know about it. Ask Google for help. :P

I believe that you will love her brilliant creations as much as Chef Jo's and Celeste's creations. So, keep checking our blog as there will be more upcoming recipes and reviews this weekend.

Recipe: Butter cookies with Nutella

Butter cookies with Nutella

Ingredients:

1. 230g butter

2. 1 cup sugar

3. 2 eggs

4. 1½ tsp vanilla essence

5. 2½ cups plain flour

6. Dash salt

7. Nutella spread

Procedures:

1. Cream the butter and sugar.

2. Beat in the eggs one at a time.

3. Add in vanilla essence.

4. Whisk in flour and a dash of salt.

Should look something like that by the time the mixture is done:

5. Let cool for 45 minutes.

6. Preheat oven to 180 degrees.

7. Roll mixture into little balls. Flatten them with a fork to create a pattern.

8. Bake for 10 minutes (or until slightly brown).

9. Spread a thick layer of Nutella in between two cookies.

10. Makes about 50 bite-size cookies... :D

FYI, these cookies are the same cookies that are put beside the R&R cookies...^^

R&R Biscuit by Celeste

We’re really touched by Celeste's surprise for baking us this R&R butter cookies. ><

To tell you the truth, she is very good at lying! She told us that it was not good enough, but she baked it very nicely. The taste? AWESOME!!!

I can't even resist to take picture of the cookies the first time I saw it. Once again many thanks to Celeste... :D

Recipe: Cheese Baked Rice with Pork Chop

Cheese Baked Rice with Pork Chop

Thought of making something with the left over shredded cheese from the Ddukbokki, and Taa-daa! Cheese Baked Rice with Pork Chop comes into my mind! AHAHAHA! I had it few times back in Malaysia, from a Hong Kong restaurant. Not necessary Pork Chop, you can actually do it with steak, lamb chop or even chicken chop… at your own choice!

Ingredients:

1. Pork Chop

2. Shredded Cheese

3. Steam rice

Preparation:

1. Prepare the steam rice on an oven-safe plate.

2. Prepare the pork chop by removing the outer layer (skin).

3. Followed by cutting the remaining outer layer (fat) of the pork chop into few parts as shown in the picture below.

4. Then tenderize pork chop by chopping it with the back of your knife. Chop the first side. Flip it over and chop the other side. Then, flip it over again and chop the first side again. In the end, you should have chopped the first side twice and the other side once.

5. Marinate it with Dark Soya Sauce, Soya Sauce, Sesame Oil, All Purpose Flour (1 small table spoon), Pepper and Chinese Wine. Probably you make it more salty as you will serve it with steam rice. Set aside for ~20 mintues.

Cooking:

1. Firstly, heat the frying pan and then the cooking oil. (Pour a little bit of oil will do as frying pork chop doesn’t need too much of oil)

2. Secondly, put in the Pork Chop and fry it with MEDIUM fire. Don’t worry if you see the colour of your pork chop is too dark or even burned. Its normal as you marinated it with Soya Sauce and Dark Soya Sauce.

3. If it’s cooked, you should feel solid when pressing it. If so remove it from the frying pan and place it on your steam rice.

**Even if it’s not completely cooked yet but the outer layer is too dark, you can still remove it out first as you will re-heat it again with the cheese in the oven**

4. Then, spread the cheese on top of the cooked pork chop and steam rice.

5. Put it into the oven. Heat it until the cheese has melted and turned into golden brown.

6. Enjoy!

Recipe: Indonesian Martabak Manis / Terang Bulan

Indonesian Martabak Manis / Terang Bulan

Ingredients:

300 grams of Plain Flour

1/2 tea spoon of baking powder

12 grams of dry yeast

50 grams of sugar

4 eggs (Do NOT use eggs that are directly taken from refrigerator. Leave the eggs at room temperature at least 2 hours before preparation.)

500 ml of Evaporated Milk

3 spoonful of Full cream Milk Powder

2 spoonful of Margarine

Toppings:

Condensed Milk (Chocolate or Vanilla)

Chocolate Sprinkle

Shredded Cheese

Crushed peanut (optional)

White Sugar (optional)

Preparation:

1. Warm the Evaporated Milk up but do NOT boil it.

2. While waiting for the Evaporated Milk to get warm, you can put all the ingredients in a container except the margarine. (NOTE: Please use a big container since we need to whisk it later)

3. Pour the warm Evaporated Milk to the container and start whisking until the ingredients get mixed perfectly. Don’t worry if there is a little residue left.

4. Melt the Margarine on a pan.

5. Take another BIG container and use a sieve to separate the fine mixture from the residue. (NOTE: the container must be quite large as the mixture will expand later on)

6. Pour the melted Margarine to the fine mixture that has been sifted. Stir slowly for a while to mix the margarine.

7. Let the fine mixture rest for 30 minutes. It’s important that you do not touch the mixture during this process since it may damage the yeast.

Cooking:

1. Heat up a frying pan at low heat and grease it well with margarine.

2. Pour the mixture to the frying pan. The amount of the mixture depends on your preference.

3. You can cover the frying pan with aluminium foil if you want to.

4. Wait for it to be cooked until it is firm.

5. Move it onto a plate and it’s ready for decoration.

6. Spread the chocolate sprinkle and followed by the shredded cheese. After that, Pour the condensed milk on top of other toppings.

7. Cut the Terang Bulan into half and fold it.

8. You can spread a bit of margarine on top of the Terang Bulan to moist the surface.

9. Cut it into pieces and ENJOY~ ^^

Review: The Cupcake Family

The Cupcake Family Review

I always wanna try the macaroons at The Cupcake Family, QV... and finally today I've got the chance to buy it.... =D

A nice packaging... =D lets open the box!

I only bought 3 macaroons - chocolate, mocha and green tea

Chocolate macaroons: This was the best out of the 3... It's not too sweet... and one was definitely not enough!

Mocha macaroons: It's not bad... but I found the mocha flavor was too strong... but if you love mocha, I guess it'll be okay...

Green tea macaroons: I don't like this one.... The green tea flavor was weird and has a very strong green tea aroma... not a good choice, I'd say...

In conclusion...

Food: 6.5/10

Price: 6.5/10

Service: 9/10

Ambience: 9/10

Estimated price: 1 macaroon is priced at AUD 1.80
