I was reading my news this morning and noticed that theme which prompts this post.

First story: Countdown to destruction at French migrant camp

The French are planning the destruction of a migrant camp, or as the article puts it:

“… when the camp will be razed by French authorities who see it as a public-health nightmare, a haven for human traffickers and a point of contention with the British, who want the border to their country better sealed.”

Let’s not solve the problem of why these camps are here, let’s just destroy the camp and pretend the problem’s solved.

Story 2: Nigerian Officials: ‘District 9′ not welcome here

The Nigerian government has pulled the movie District 9 because,

“We have directed that they should stop public screening of the film,” she said. “We are not happy about it because it portrays Nigeria in bad light.”

Granted, after reading the entire article, I would agree that the film does show Nigeria in a bad light. I haven’t personally seen it yet and to be honest, I had planned on seeing it because I am a sci-fi addict and thought this movie was solely about aliens!

But whether the film shows Nigeria in a bad light or not, there is an ever noticeable pattern I’m seeing in all beings on this planet – ignore the problem and maybe it will disappear. Or, stick your head in the sand and maybe it will go away because we can’t see it anymore. It is the EXACT same behavior as destroying migrant camps, prohibiting a film, arresting people and putting them in jails to silence them, or forcing the homeless out of cities. If you can’t see it, then it doesn’t exist!

Guess what? It’s still there!

We, as human beings sharing this planet, need to step up our game. Metaphysical teachers, light and energy workers, and even our religious leaders need to take our heads out of the sand (and out of our posterior ends) and start affecting change if we are to evolve to our coming destiny.

How can we even hope to have a planet of spiritual beings any time in the near future when conditions like I’ve mentioned still exist.

There are small things we can do as individuals. Donate to your local food pantry, donate to a charity that provides services to others in need, and volunteer your time if you have no money or are out of work.

Your local Goodwill accepts donations of your items so they can resell them. This serves a two-fold purpose. It generates money from their retail stores to provide jobs and retraining programs for those in need. And it offers a place for people who are less fortunate economically to buy things they need at a reduced cost.

Your local Salvation Army helps shelter and rehabilitate homeless and provides food and checks at the holiday season. My family once received a Christmas check and bags of food when I had my auto accident and could not provide for my two young children. You have no idea what that did for our family then!

Your local United Way, YMCA, and other organizations provide services to others in need. The “Y” administers grant monies to people who need day care services so they can work or go to school to better their lives. The United Way distributes money to these local organizations that are helping others.

I’m also willing to bet that if you called your local food pantry, they would tell you what ours is telling us – their shelves are becoming empty due to the need.

Yes, the government still sucks. Yes, we are still angry because the campaign promises of our elected officials have vaporized. Yes, there’s unemployment and Wall Street still sells the same derivatives that got us into this mess while collecting bonuses and devising new ways to gamble with money. (Have you heard about the new life insurance gamble?)

But getting angry, inciting fear and hate, ranting or doing nothing will not change the world.  Depending on a government to affect change – well, we’ve seen where that got us so far!

POSITIVE action will affect change! No matter how small.

$1.00 donated to any of the charities I’ve mentioned – or one of your own choosing – could make a difference.  Donating the household stuff you’re saving because you may need it someday, or donating the clothes that may fit you again will change many lives! 1 hour of volunteer time can start a chain reaction that could revolutionize the globe. 10 minutes of meditating or praying for peace could spread more healing energy than listening to a 30 minute Glen Beck show spreading hate.

Start where you are. Just one small thing. And watch the change begin. The point is – JUST START!

I left playing Bingo in MySpace today because I was enraged by a Meebo chat that was going on and before I started attacking others, I felt it was best to leave.

Yesterday, we honored the deaths of the 9/11 victims. A solemn occasion and one that reminds us of how far we have to go with understanding each other as human beings.

Yet, not more than even 24 hours later, I stumble into this chat room to innocently play my Bingo and there is this raging attack on a girl because she mentioned that she liked Nascar.  Ok, I don’t like Nascar, but hey, I don’t like a lot of things! Does that make her a bad person? No. It just makes her different.

But a group of people felt that this was enough to call her names and shamelessly attack her and her friends. Pathetic.

I finally made the statement that it’s no wonder we can’t have peace between countries when we can’t even have peace among our own human beings. And of course, I made the mistake of calling out someone who then made a statement about how much fun he/she was having picking on this person. I said, “I certainly hope you are not a Christian, [screen name]!”

Well that sparked a whole other feud! This person said to me that he/she was a Christian and that I had no idea what they say or how they felt.

I don’t? Didn’t I just see your faith and beliefs in action in the attacks on this other girl? Is that what your Jesus would want you to do? (And I don’t want you to send me hate mail. I do call myself Christian and I do believe in Jesus. I was simply referencing the difference between his/her belief in Jesus and my belief in what he taught.)

Then, another person jumped in and said, “I am Christian but I am also an American and I have the right to free speech.”

Since when does being American and having the right of FREE SPEECH give you the right to dismiss the teachings of Christianity? Jesus said, “Love your neighbor as you love yourselves.” Maybe that’s the problem? You don’t love yourself? (I won’t even go there right now in this post.)

Jesus loved the tax collector and prostitutes and accepted them non-judgmentally. He would talk to them about the love of God – the father, but you cannot preach to someone you’ve alienated through attacking their beliefs or lifestyle. Jesus knew that! So he welcomed them and accepted them and then told them about a life that is different from the one they were living.

Do you think Christianity would have survived so long if Jesus preached the way some of our so-called Christian’s are trying to today?

And to use the Constitution to push your hatred under the guises of FREE SPEECH is not only unpatriotic it’s down right blasphemy!

I am far from being a perfect model of Christianity but I am working on my unconditional love for fellow human beings day in and day out.

I find it a sad, sad state of human affairs when we feel the need to attack someone – a fellow American, who is also entitled to free speech – in the name of religion and patriotism.  That is a very FRACKED up way of translating your beliefs folks!

I think the clergy needs to really take a look at Jesus’ message again and start educating their congregations.  And you Christian’s – and you know who you are – who behave like these folks in the chat room, need to go back and re-read the teachings of Jesus.

Right now, all I’m seeing is lip service Christianity and Patriotism. And it’s sad. So very, very sad!

I went to the bank yesterday to deposit a check, I’m seeing all these people wearing face masks. At first I just shook my head and internally chalked it off to people’s model of the world.

Later that day, some of my twitter friends started posting updates about the pandemic. That’s when the WTF? expression appeared.

Today, I’m seeing status updates on MySpace, and a host of postings from blogs to social networks about this new Pandemic.

I don’t know which surprises me more, the fact that the media is sensationalizing this so much or the fact that sane people are buying into the hype.

First, let me say that I think people should be cautious about this whole situation. I’m not saying that you should become careless. You should be informed and you should take the usual precautions you would during the normal flu season. And of course, at the first sign of symptoms you should consult a health professional and get the drug “Tamiflu” or some equivalent antiviral that is known to work against this new flu.

That being said, what I want to address with you is the hype and spreading fear and panic over this illness. The psychological effect of this hype.

Being in fear, panic, or any other stressful state will deplete your body of needed vitamins and natural immune fighting capabilities. If you start to worry or obsess about this situation, you are going to weaken your immune system and become even more susceptible to the infection.

I want to put this in perspective for you so you can calm down a bit.

I went to the CDC to research the normal flu season. Let me quote the stats for you as well as provide you the link to research further on your own.

“During September 30, 2007 — May 17, 2008, World Health Organization (WHO) and National Respiratory and Enteric Virus Surveillance System (NREVSS) collaborating laboratories in the United States tested 225,329 specimens for influenza viruses; 39,827 (18%) were positive.”

The current stats according to the CDC on this mutant Swine Flu are:

Okay, let’s put this in perspective shall we?

Normal flu season infections: 39,827
Current flu infections: 91

Are you seeing what I’m seeing?

Now, let’s add the deaths to the mix. According to the same source (cited above), they claim this:

“During the 2007–08 influenza season, the percentage of deaths attributed to pneumonia and influenza (P&I) exceeded the epidemic threshold** for 8 consecutive weeks in the 122 Cities Mortality Reporting System during the weeks ending January 12–May 17, 2008(weeks 9–16). The percentage of P&I deaths peaked at 9.1% during the week ending March 15, 2008 (week 11). During the previous three influenza seasons, the peak percentage of P&I deaths has ranged from 7.7% to 8.9% and the total number of weeks the P&I ratio exceeded the epidemic threshold has ranged from one to 11. The P&I baseline and epidemic threshold values are projected for each season at the onset of that season and are based on data from the previous five years… “

The peak from last years flu season caused a 9.1% death rate. We have 1 death in 91 cases. That’s closing in on 1% but not quite there yet.

Okay, let’s put that in perspective again.

Now, one of my twitter friends said that the reason this is such a BIG issue is because of how fast this can spread and infect people.

So, let’s look at the definitions we use for the flu.

Again, according to the CDC’s definitions:

Swine Influenza (swine flu) is a respiratory disease of pigs caused by type A influenza viruses that causes regular outbreaks in pigs. People do not normally get swine flu, but human infections can and do happen.

Bird flu is commonly used to refer to Avian flu (see below). Bird flu viruses infect birds, including chickens, other poultry and wild birds such as ducks.

Avian flu (AI)is caused by influenza viruses that occur naturally among wild birds. Low pathogenic AI is common in birds and causes few problems. Highly pathogenic H5N1 is deadly to domestic fowl, can be transmitted from birds to humans, and is deadly to humans. There is virtually no human immunity and human vaccine availability is very limited.

Pandemic flu is virulent human flu that causes a global outbreak, or pandemic, of serious illness. Because there is little natural immunity, the disease can spread easily from person to person. Currently, there is no pandemic flu.

Seasonal (or common) flu is a respiratory illness that can be transmitted person to person. Most people have some immunity, and a vaccine is available.

Swine Influenza (swine flu) is a respiratory disease of pigs caused by type A influenza viruses that causes regular outbreaks in pigs. People do not normally get swine flu, but human infections can and do happen.

Okay, I get that. We don’t have a natural immunity. Ok. But, is there a cure? YES! End of panic.

The way the media is sensationalizing this, you would think we have an unknown Plaque on our hands.

Yes, be cautious. Yes, keep yourself in top health conditions.

Yes, take some Echinacea, Zinc, Vitamin C, and Vitamin B complex to keep your immune system up to par. (I might even add Vitamin A, D, and a touch of E just as an extra precaution for myself.)

But my God people, DON’T PANIC!

It’s the flu. It has a medication that works to cure you.

Seek medical treatment if you are showing any signs of feeling ill.

Keep living your life as you normally would for gosh sakes!

STOP jumping on every media hype bandwagon! STOP buying into their sensationalism that’s only meant to sell ratings. WAKE UP and STOP being sheeple! Use your common sense for God’s sake! THINK FOR YOURSELF for a change!

And if one of my “metaphysical” or “holistic” twitter friends, promote this pandemic I’m going to unfollow them. Why? Because if you believe that you are the master of your destiny and that “The Secret” works, why would you create this illness for yourself?

I have not had the flu in over 5 years – maybe longer – because I can’t remember when’s the last time I had it. I DO NOT get flu shots. Don’t believe in them and think they do more harm than good. I’m not a germ-a-phob. I don’t sanitize the crap out of my life for fear of every known bug that walks the earth. I’m clean, but not obsessive.

Do I believe I’m going to get this flu? No! But rest assured that if I do feel sick, I’m heading to the clinic for my Tamiflu. End of story.

Stop giving energy to this situation by feeding it with the vigor the media attention is giving it.

Looking at the quote attributed to Jesus, and looking at the definitions provided from the original language, meditate on what this means to you.

Ask yourself, if the kingdom of God is within, why are we taught in religion to look outside ourselves?

If God is within us, what does that say about how we represent the divine by our behavior to others?

What would you change about how you interact with others of differing beliefs if you knew without a doubt that God did reside within you?

At first, I was very irritated that this person would jump to a conclusion such as they did. And then, I opened another e-mail from DailyOm, which follows.

Things That Annoy Us

There are many stories of spiritual masters embracing the presence of an annoying student in their community. There is even one story that documents a teacher paying an irritating person to live among his students. From an everyday perspective, this is difficult to comprehend. We generally work hard to avoid people and things that we find annoying so they don’t bother us.

From a deeper spiritual perspective, however, irritation can be an important teacher and indicator that we are making progress on our path. Being able to remain centered and awake even when we feel uncomfortable is much more impressive than doing so in an environment where everything is to our liking. No matter how good we are at controlling our circumstances, there will always be factors and people that we cannot control. How we respond to these experiences to a great degree determines the quality of our lives. The goal of spiritual development is not to learn to control our environment—which is more of an ego-driven desire. And while having some measure of control over our external reality is important, it is when we are confronted with a person or situation that irritates us and we can choose not to react that we know have made progress spiritually. It is when we have mastered our internal reality that we will have become the masters of our lives.

The more we try to eliminate annoyances, instead of learning to handle them gracefully, the further we get from developing the qualities that come with spiritual growth, such as patience, tolerance, and acceptance. It is often in the presence of people and experiences we find annoying that we have an opportunity to develop these qualities. Fortunately for most of us, our lives offer an abundance of opportunities to practice and cultivate these traits.

I am indeed very busy at work. And I’ve taken a lot of time out to talk to my daughter when she calls, to call my sister and do a check on how she’s doing, and yesterday I even took time to return a phone call to my best friend because I knew he wanted to hear from me.

All of that and working on finishing a clients website, fixing some glitches in my computer, arranging new business with my twitter friends, chatting with perspective clients and students on my company’s live Google Chat, and keeping up with my commitments to other social networking folks. And that’s only the beginning.

When this year started, I made the commitment to myself that I would be taking my business to the next level. This I do for me, and only me.

What has been a wonderful blessing is that I’ve met hundreds of like minded people along the way that are supportive to me in my goals. The beauty of the social networking I’ve discovered, is full of awesome people who truly want to connect and help each other.

Did this friends e-mail support that belief for me? No. But it was only one e-mail. I have many more e-mails that support the belief I stated in the paragraph above.

Irritating yes.  A belief check for me? Yes.

I can’t be everything to every one – especially to people who do not believe what I say, jump to conclusions about what I’m doing, and lack the self-esteem to trust that I’m their friend and not ignoring them. That’s not where I am in my growth.

So, this was a wonderful example of the Universe working with me in my growth. While I might have felt guilty reading this persons e-mail before, or gone off on some kind of negative tangent with myself, the DailyOm was waiting for me to point out the significance of what just happened. (I just love synchronicity, don’t you?)

I am grateful to the friend (yes, I still think of him as a friend, even if he doesn’t believe it) for sending me that e-mail and allowing me to see the beautiful, blessed synchronicity in the events.  I am also grateful because he’s given me the reminder to see how blessed I am with so many wonderful, supportive friends I do have on all the social networking sites I belong too.

So this is for you all my Twitter Tweeple, Facebook Friends, MySpace Buddies, Digg Pals, and the folks at The Million Mind March community. Thank you! Thank you for being the wonderful, beautiful people that you are! And thank you for the honor of your friendship!

The original post claims that:

The Dalai Lama has stunned left-leaning followers by proclaiming “I love President George W. Bush“.

Why are the left-leaning followers stunned?

If you are a true follower of the Dalai Lama and his messages, this wouldn’t surprise you in the slightest! In fact, it’s EXACTLY what I would expect him to say!

The very idea that someone is less worthy of love – unconditional love – just because we do not agree with their politics, world view, or model of the world, is the very reason terrorism and hate exists today.

I can’t stand George Bush’s politics, nor the decisions he’s made in the past 4 years. Does that mean he’s undeserving of the Unconditional Love of the Divine which we are all supposed to be showing the world? NO! If anything, he deserves more of our love because of it!

I can’t help but wonder how different our world would be if we stopped hating those we disagree with and just loved them more because of that very reason.

I’m going to literally “piss” (excuse my modern colloquialism) a lot of you off with what I’m about to say and if so, that’s a good thing! Maybe it will cause you to take a long hard look at your narrow mind and look into the infinite mind of GOD!

In reading the article about the man who lived like Jesus for a year, I scrolled down to read the comments. I wanted to throw up – some of them made me physically ill.

One person used the comments to support his anti-gay agenda and anti-abortion agenda. Dude! Did you forget that when the Disciples asked Jesus about Old Testament Law with “Master, Which is the great commandment in the law?”  (KJV MAT 22:36) How did Jesus respond?

Did he say, “The entire book of Leviticus is the most important?”  No.

Did he say, “The entire 10 laws of Moses is the most important?” No.

He replied:

Mat 22:37  Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with  all thy  heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

Mat 22:38  This  is the first and great commandment.

Mat 22:39  And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour  as  thyself.

Mat 22:40  On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

(And for those who would take me to task about my understanding and research of the Bible, let me refer you to e-sword software. I use it in place of my Hebrew-Greek Study Bible because it looks up the meaning of the original words faster. But I have studied the Bible in it’s original languages and I suggest others do the same. E-sword software is free here: http://e-sword.net/ but I warn you, comparing what was written to how it was translated will make you question a lot!)

Okay, that being said, Jesus said to love your neighbor as you love yourself. He doesn’t include any exemptions there. Jesus DOES NOT say:

Love your neighbor as yourself unless… he’s a homosexual, or she’s a lesbian.

Love your neighbor as yourself unless… she’s had an abortion, he/she is a doctor that performs abortion, or he/she works at an abortion clinic.

Love your neighbor as yourself unless…he/she is an alcoholic and drinks anything but wine, he/she is an addict and abuses drugs, he/she smokes cigarettes, smokes pot, or does anything else that doesn’t fit into your narrow minded brain.

Love your neighbor as yourself unless…he/she is NOT a Christian.

If you are going to quote the Biblical law and expect that it should be followed, why are you taking only ONE of those laws out of the entire book? If you want to be held according to the Biblical law, then you have to take every last one of them mentioned in Leviticus not just Leviticus 18:22.

You cannot pick and choose which one of the laws are acceptable and which are not! If you are going to QUOTE any of them and declare them an edict from GOD, then you need to QUOTE them all and LIVE them all!

You alleged Christian’s that walk around quoting scripture without a clue about what you’re saying are no different then the hypocrites that Jesus spoke about!

Additionally, the Bible IS NOT the definitive work on Jesus’ life! One person wrote in the comments that Jesus didn’t drink beer, he drank wine. How the HECK do you know that? Yes, wine is mentioned in the Bible in reference to the wedding miracle and it was a standard drink for the time, but how the heck can you claim to know what Jesus did? Were you there?

Even Josephus, the great historian of the time, mentions Jesus of Nazareth in passing. There are no other known documents other than the writings that are included in the Bible, the Dead Sea Scrolls, and the texts from Nag Hammâdi that even reference he existed. And they focus on his teachings not his daily habits!

Now this comment makes me wish that Jesus would come back and set the record straight right here, right now:

From what I read in Bible I know Jesus wouldn’t approve of homosexuality and abortion like Obama does! How can that crazy man compare Jesus to a man who approves all of this things? It made me sick to see him talk like that about Jesus!!!

Despite belief to the contrary, Obama is our President elect. He IS NOT the new Messiah!

How in the name of anything that is Divine can you even begin to compare the two? If Jesus wanted you to mix Politics with the Kingdom of God, don’t you think he would have led the revolution and established the New World Order himself?

You religious zealots make me sick to see you talk about Jesus that way!

The Bible, the same one I read that you allegedly have read states in Hosea:

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge…
(KJV Hos 4:6)

If I were introduced to the Christian faith by believers such as this, I would’ve ran to the other side of the Universe to get away from them!

Jesus taught that we were not to judge, yet all I see is judgement and condemnation out of people professing they are Christians or Christ followers.

Jesus taught love – unconditional love – which is the love of GOD. Yet all I see is hatred and contempt for anyone who doesn’t believe as you do.

Jesus taught compassion, and all you know is cruelty and tyranny against those who do not believe as you do.

Jesus, the Christ (a title, not a last name, meaning the anointed) must be a different historical figure for me because I could never see Jesus making the kind of rude and critical judgments on the world as I see supposed followers do.

I am so glad that I learned Christianity from believers who walked the walk as well as talked the talk! Their loving acceptance of me then – as a non-believer – made me want to have what they had. There was a joy and happiness about them that I wanted. There was a peace and glow about them that I wanted. That’s what led me to Christ – THEIR EXAMPLE!

If the examples of Christianity that I’m seeing is what Christianity is becoming, then I am saddened. Deeply saddened for the faith as a whole, and for those who preach a message of condemnation, judgment, hatred, and dogma in the name of one of our greatest teachers – Jesus of Nazareth, the Christ.

After reading a book about living a year biblically, a pastor took to the task of living like Jesus for a year.

I’ve warned you that I’m not a “religious” person but a “spiritual” one and this brief story is for everyone no matter what your beliefs may be!
