Youth Ministry Certification School at Gettysburg Seminary

Do you know an adult who has a passion for youth ministry but feels unprepared, not sure of what to do, or who would like some education and training to minister more completely with youth and their families? Is your congregation looking for a way to support and equip the adult(s) currently working with your youth? Are you, as a pastor, looking for an CE opportunity combining theory, theology and practice in youth ministry?

Attached is a brochure and a flyer for the Youth Ministry Certification School at Gettysburg Seminary. This 14-day course in youth and family ministry includes four days of adventure education emphasizing small groups, community development and relational youth ministry. The 10 days of classroom work includes Biblical and theological training, cultural analysis, long-range planning, family ministry, Christian Education and lots of how-to strategies.

This past year, two Metro DC Synod Youth Directors were members of the class (Andrew Buck, Emmanuel, Vienna and Becky Conrad, Peace, Waldorf); there have been many others in previous years. I am also a graduate (2001) and our own Barbara Harner currently serve as one of the Coach – Instructors for the course.

Please take a look at the brochure and prayerfully consider who you might ‘invite’ to join this year’s class. Sometimes it just takes someone saying, “Hey, I think you should consider this.” Feel free to forward this information to anyone you think might be interested and if you have any questions, please give Barbara a call at 301.963.6236.

It is important that all participants should understand that, while planned as a fun and spiritually enriching event, CHI RHO is first and foremost a working camp.
All participants will respect the feelings and viewpoints of others, and will keep in mind they are representing Lutherans throughout the Washington metro area.

Participants will make sure that an adult leader knows where they are at all times. If it becomes necessary for an individual or small group to go somewhere, they will discuss with a leader before going.
