On August 8th, M for Montreal takes over Place Emilie-Gamelin (corner of Berri/Ste-Catherine) in Quartier des Spectacles from 12 - 2 PM with an incredible lineup providing the soundtrack to your summer weekday afternoon. Many of you may recall last year's summer-long M for Midi series featuring local acts Canailles, David Giguère, Karim Ouellet, SoCalled, Les Soeurs Boulay, Caracol and more.

This year, M for Midi is proud to present two of the hottest acts coming out of our fair city:

AroarA

AroarA is the new duo from Montreal's Andrew Whiteman (Broken Social Scene founding member, Apostle of Hustle guitarist) and Ariel Engle. Amplified cigar box guitars meet 404 samplers to trigger mellotrons and Black Sabbath bells. It's a new type of minimalism, which allows emotion to come through unimpeded by bombast or blarney. Vocal duets, twin guitar lines and thundercloud drum machines are their stock-in-trade.

AroarA's debut full length album will be released August 27th on Club Roll Music.

Folly & The Hunter

Folly & The Hunter base their sound in the American folk tradition, pulling inspiration from contemporary indie and post-rock trends. Catchy melodies, multiple harmonies and a subtly crafted mix of instruments blend to create warm and full compositions. The result: pop songs that carry emotional and artistic depth.

Experiencing great heartache and loss throughout one year, the band relied on each other as friends, as bandmates and as family and crafted the beautiful album Tragic Care, released earlier this year on Outside Music.

Summer is here and M for Montreal is ready to celebrate with the Mini-m series and its “M for Mid Day” shows presented as part of the partnership with Quartier des Spectacles and the programming of Place Émilie-Gamelin. Promoting local acts all summer long, bands will play every week to accompany your lunch, ice cream and tanning session! The M for Mid Day shows start off June 20 at 12:15 p.m. with Les frères Goyette.

The summer will host: Caracol, David Giguère, i.No, Karim Ouellet, Bloodshot Bill, Canailles, Francis Faubert, Maybe Watson, Les sœurs Boulay and Irreverend James and the Critical Mass Choir. M for Montreal also teams up with Mundial Montreal to present two exceptional world music artists from their 2011 program: Juan Sebastian Larobina and Kabakuwo. The Place Émilie-Gamelin is THE place to be for any music fan in Montreal that’s looking for a sunny spot during lunchtime!

The M for Mid Day shows take place on Wednesdays from 12:15 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Place Émilie-Gamelin (except Canailles who will play a Tuesday and Kabakuwo who will play a Monday):

The Mini-m series start off with Mini-m at Chromatic! Created by MASSIVart, Chromatic is a multidisciplinary artistic event taking place on May 25 and 26 at La Société des Arts Technologiques (SAT). M for Montreal and Chromatic share a similar mission: to create bridges between the industry, the emerging artists and the public. This is why Mini-m is proud to take part of this inspiring project and will be programming the music section on Friday night. So, look out for AGOR, Cosmetics, D’Eon, Ain’t No Love, Mozart’s Sister and Le Matos on the M for Montreal stage!
