The Vantage Hydronic Condensing Boiler product line includes an extensive offering of models ranging in size from 2,000,000 BTU/HR input to 6,000,000 BTU/HR input. The fire tube design features diverse power burner configurations for high efficiency hydronic heating applications.

Vantage boilers feature HIGH PRODUCT MASS and HIGH PRESSURE VESSEL WATER VOLUME; making the boilers exceptionally tolerant of varying and sometimes unpredictable system conditions.

The Vantage boiler is the first condensing boiler to offer operation on #2 oil as a backup fuel, taking advantage of existing fuels in retrofit applications. When #2 oil is selected, the Vantage control system automatically loads the correct fuel profile, simplifying backup fuel switchover requirements. The same simplicity exists for natural gas / propane dual fuel applications. Duplex alloy stainless steel is used in the condensing heat exchanger. Duplex alloys have industry leading, superior properties suited for condensing applications.

Fulton Vantage Features:

An aging Armstrong 6220 series domestic cold water booster required replacement at 1801 Hollis St in Halifax NS. The existing constant speed booster package was no longer available, so working with Black & McDonald, MacLeod & Grant Ltd supplied a modern SA Armstrong Ltd 6800 Series Design Envelope Booster.

The original booster design was for a maximum flow of 11.36 L/s (180 USGPM) a boost pressure of 644 kPa (93.4 PSI), this was originally achieved using a duplex package of constant speed Armstrong 4380 1.5D pumps with 11.2 kW (15hp) 3600 rpm motors pumping through PRV’s to the system. Each of the original pumps had a bhp of roughly 7.46 kW (10 hp), so in any call for water pressure in the tower either 7.46 kW (10 hp) or 15 kW (30 hp) was required to satisfy the system.

The replacement 6800-IVS Design Envelope booster was supplied with a pair of duty-standby 4700 series vertical multi-stage pumps, the vertical multistage design allows for an immediate reduction to a 7.46 kW (10 hp) motor on each pump. The package was installed over the Labour Day long weekend and commissioned the following Tuesday morning under a fully operating office tower, one pump easily handled the entire tower and pressure to the roof top cooling towers. After monitoring the package operation for over and hour, the average operating speed of the lead pump was roughly 70%, operating between 2.8 and 3.0 kW (3.8 and 4.0 bhp). These numbers are only an initial sample of the energy savings using a Design Envelope booster, but work out to around 60% motor power savings under normal operating conditions.

With sizes that range from 1.5 to 3.5 million Btu/hr, you finally have the opportunity to utilize Lochinvar leading-edge technology in your largest applications. With thermal efficiencies up to 99% in low water temperature applications, CREST is positioned to provide exceptional energy-saving performance.

The advanced CREST introduces a combustion system with a unique burner design with up to 25:1 turndown. The burner fires into an array of 316L stainless steel fire-tubes that transfer the heat to the surrounding water with exceptionally high efficiency.

CREST communicates seamlessly and in real time with building management systems by utilizing an on-board MODBUS protocol. The SMART TOUCH™ control has a built-in cascading component that communicates with up to eight units, providing total command without an external control or complex and expensive control logic programming by the BMS integrator.

These changes cause significant combustion inefficiencies and degrade combustion stability. TEMP A TRIM® senses combustion air temperature and automatically varies the fan speed to create a constant air flow mass for combustion. By maintaining optimum fuel/air ratios, you are assured that your burner is operating at maximum efficiency. For a detailed introduction to the Temp A Trim technology, check out the video below.

Typically we select equipment like pumps, boilers and chillers for a single design day, but in reality HVAC is a part load industry and that design day could be oversized by as much as 20%. A typical HVAC system may only require 40-60% of its total capacity about 95% of the time.

The answer to these part load conditions is the Armstrong Design Envelope concept. Using a combination of intelligent variable speed and demand based controls; you can minimize risk, reduce capital, design and install costs along with increasing your energy savings.

The design envelope concept is currently available on 4300-IVS series pumps, IPP packaged chilled water plants, 6800-IVS series boosters and the ECO*PAK modular boiler system.

In an effort to combat rising energy costs, Doric Property Management chose Lochinvar Knight commercial condensing boilers for conversion from oil fired boilers to natural gas fired appliances in four of their properties in the Clayton Park region of Halifax NS. 21 Chadwick Place, 61 Chadwick Place and 290 Willett Street were each upgraded with three new Lochinvar Knight KBN401 boilers and Armstrong E-Series circulators, 16 Caxton Close used two Lochinvar KBN501 and one Lochinvar KBN500 boiler with Armstrong E-Series circulators.

The newest version of the Lochinvar SMART System control allowed the installations to control zoned domestic hot water tanks on all sites except 21 Chadwick Place, the new ‘efficiency’ mode cascading sequence, as well as being backwards compatible with the last generation of control on the KBN500 used at 16 Caxton Place, without any loss in functions. The new control also allows for up to three separate space heating demands, upgraded BMS functions, seven days of night set-back for space and DHW heating, on screen ramp delay adjustments and additional pumps controls.

All four installations are existing high temperature space heating applications and are already reducing the operational costs of these systems.
