How To Jailbreak iPhone 3.1.2 Firmware With blacksn0w

The more you use Facebook, the more you love it. As I explore Facebook and it’s features, I’m learning new things. Here is something I learnt new in Facebook – how to set Status Updates page as home page so that I’ll see the status updates as the first thing when logged in.

It’s very simple. Here are simple steps to be followed

1. Click on the More link available just below the left side menu. Now you see an expanded menu list with a stack icon next to each menu item.

3. Drag the Status Updates menu item and move it to the top. That’s all. From now onwards when you login to Facebook, you will see Status Updates as your home page. That’s simple and useful right!

In fact you can set any of the left side menu items as your homepage by just dragging it top the top of the list.

What If Twitter Is A Microsoft Application [Geek Fun]

Google Reader is my favorite RSS reader and also the best source of information I read every day. I spend at least 2 – 3 hours a day with Google Reader to read 500+ feeds I’m following.  But after reading “Why I don’t use Google Reader anymore – by Robert Scooble”, I’m all set to replace Google Reader with Twitter Lists.

Twitter Lists. Does this sound unfamiliar to you? Here is an explanation of Twitter Lists by a blog post on Twitter

[Twitter Lists] The idea is to allow people to curate lists of Twitter accounts. For example, you could create a list of the funniest Twitter accounts of all time, athletes, local businesses, friends, or any compilation that makes sense.

Like how I use to add interesting RSS feeds to my Google Reader account, now I can add interesting tweeters to my Twitter account and arrange them as a List.  The best part of the Twitter Lists is they can be shared publicly and anyone can follow them just a single click.

For instance look at the Twitter Lists shared by Robert Scooble on his account. They are awesome and I’m now following two of his lists Tech News Brands and Tech Companies. The information I read in these tweets is all I see in my Google Reader with a delay of couple of hours. Like this if I find few more lists that can feed my knowledge hunger then I will not even bother to open Google Reader at all.

Out of all the reasons listed by Robert Scooble for not using the Google Reader and moving to Twitter Lists, the most convincing one to me is

I see most news faster on Twitter than in Google Reader. Where did Marissa Mayer announce Google’s deal with Twitter? On Twitter. It didn’t show up on my Google Reader until later after everyone had written blog posts.

Twitter is the king of real time communication and the news on twitter is spread at lightening fast. When I’m able to read the up to the minute news on Twitter Lists, why should I go to Google Reader to read 2 to 3 hours old news?

Twitter Lists Is All Set to Replace My Google Reader

A new version of WordPress iPhone application, version 2.0, is released on Apple App Store today. Woohoo! That’s a great news for iPhone users who run their blog using WordPress.

Let’s look at what is new in the version 2.0(just top 5 are listed here and for the rest check this post).

• A new, more efficient user interface that makes it faster to switch between comments, posts, and pages.
• Various user interface refinements and bug fixes
• New Comments interface, with Gravatars and the author URL shown in the comment list
• Passwords are now stored in the keychain
• Posts are now automatically saved and restored if network connection is lost during publishing

So are you excited to install the new version of WordPress on your iPhone/iPod Touch? Just head to iTunes store and get the application. If you are already using version WordPress 1.0, it will not be disturbed by this new installation. Version 1.0 & 2.0 can run side by side without any problem. Don’t want to have version 1.0 after installation version 2.0? Just uninstall version 1.0.

The trending topics on Twitter gives us a fair idea about what millions of users are talking about right now. By looking at the trending topics list, at times I’ll not be able to figure out what that topics is all about and why is it trending.

Whenever I find a trending  topic that is Geek and Latin, I use head over to whatthetrend.com as it provides clear information on these trends. But today when I logged into twitter, I noticed that twitter itself is displaying the description of trending topics and also the reasons why they are trending. That’s awesome. At one place, now I get to see all the trending topics as well the reason why they are trending.

But who is keying in this information at twitter? Are there any Twitter engineers who are updating description of these trending topics regularly? No. Not at all. Twitter just tied up with whatthetrend.com and using their APIs to pull information of the trending topics.

That’s interesting right. whatthetrend.com is developed using twitter API and now twitter is using whatthetrend.com APIs.

Twitter Now Tells You Why A Topic Is Trending

Mozilla has released an update for Firefox, version 3.5.4, that includes some important security updates. Other than security and stability issues fixes there are not much notable changes in this version. You can read through the full change log here.

Mozilla will push these updates sometime tomorrow and your Firefox will notify you about the update. If you don’t want to wait till Mozilla pushes  the updates, you can start the update process by following the menu options "Help -> Check for Updates".

Mozilla Releases Firefox 3.5.4 – Patches Security Holes.

San Francisco’s famous Bay Bridge is shut down as few pieces of the cantilever section fell down and seems to be there is not much damage. The interesting part of this news for geeks – this news was first broke on Twitter. The commuter Joe Marshall (@larfo) snapped a picture  of Bay Bridge debris and tweeted it to his Twitter account using twitpic.

This was not the first time a news is broken on twitter before the main stream media. Many incidents like Jakarta bombing, Mumbai bombing sand Hudson River plane crash news was posted to twitter just after few minutes when they happened.

This is another clear example of the power of Twitter and citizen journalism.

San Francisco Bay Bridge Partially Collapses, Twitter is the First One to Break the News

Space missions are always exciting. It does not matter whether it’s from NASA or it’s from ISRO, space explorations are interesting. If you one among those enthusiast who loves space related stuff, here is some good news for you.

Tomorrow NASA is going to test launch Ares I-X rocket, the next generation space craft and launch vehicle. This launch is going to last only for couple minutes but the officials are saying that it will be a “spectacular” event to watch.

People who are living close by NASA’s Kenny  Space Center in Florida will have the opportunity to see the event live, but for others NASA is providing live streaming of the event on NASA TV Website.
