The Loews Hotel in Miami Beach features direct access to the beach and an ocean front swimming pool and Jacuzzi with private cabanas. As with all Loews Hotels the experience is four diamond and geared towards providing visitors with a unique upscale hotel experience. For more than 60 years Loews has been satisfying customers across the U.S. and has earned a reputation for being one of the finest hotel chains in the country.

Attractions at Loews Hotel

The attractions at Loews Hotel are similar to others hotels in the Miami Beach and South Beach area. The biggest draw for Loews is probably its proximity to the beach. With a pool area that includes a zero entry oversized freeform ocean front swimming pool, two hot tubs, a pool concierge and direct access to the 90 foot wide sandy beach with rental chairs and umbrellas, it’s a huge highlight. In addition there are cabanas at the pool that each come fully equipped with a plasma television, fresh fruit arrangements, water, soft drinks and an interesting reading selection (rental fee required). If you’re visiting the Loews Hotel with your family you may want to check the kids into Sobe Kids Camp. Children between the ages of four and twelve years old can join a full or half day program that includes arts & crafts, sand castle contests, scavenger hunts, movies, Nintendo Wii contests, and water games. If your child is a little too old for the Sobe Kids Camp but doesn’t want to hang with mom and dad all day the PBTeen Cabana may be the solution. This cabana is designed specifically for tweens to teens so they can hang out and meet others their age while playing music, Nintendo Wii, and enjoy all the beach has to offer. Plus there is Elemis Spa and Fitness Center where you can enhance your relaxation with any of the more than 24 different treatments, side by side couples massage rooms, a rooftop sun deck, full nail and hair salon, steam rooms, Jacuzzi tubs and a co-ed calming lounge. For fitness buffs the fitness center features a variety of classes as well as personal training sessions, all with a stunning view of the pool below and the Atlantic Ocean. There are also three restaurants in the hotel Sushi Sobe, Emeril’s Miami Beach, and Preston’s Brassiere.

Local Attractions

Loews is located near some of Miami’s top attractions, the Beach and the South Beach scene, but it’s also a short distance from many other attractions. Miami has a thriving art scene and the large number of museums dedicated to a variety of artistic studies is evidence to its importance. In addition to the art museums there are a number of other museums throughout the city dedicated to topics of interest such as science, Florida history, the Jewish experience in Florida, and architectural history.

Local Nightlife

Miami has a reputation for its vibrant nightlife and guests at Loews Hotel are located in the center of one of the most happening areas of the city. If you’re up for a stroll you can wander over to the South Beach area and walk from party to party, hitting several clubs along the way. The strip turns into a non-stop party at night and streams of people move from club to club. If you keep your eyes open it’s very likely you’ll see one of today’s hottest celebrities as this area is one of the most popular with the young and affluent. For those who love dancing the Cuban influence in the Little Havana section of Miami creates a remarkable mix that throbs with energy. And live music lovers will delight with the unique jazz and blues sounds in downtown Miami, the Latin influence in Little Havana and the techno inspired Brazilian music fills the area.

If you’re down for an amazing time in one of Miam’s hottest clubs, LOUIS nightclub at the Gansevoort Hotel in Miami Beach is one of the famous Opium Group’s latest fashionable offering. A slice of Parisiaan downtown sentiment in the middle of South Beach, LOUIS has in the short time since their late 2008 opening, already become a benchmark hotspot, graced by the likes of Russell Simmons, Marilyn Manson, and Lindsey Lohan.

The interior of this club features antique French decor that is not at all out of place in the midst of subdued black modern fixtures whose smooth surfaces make them melt away from the eye. Crystal lighting fixtures and themed walls only add to the ambiance created by lounging in the throne-style Francois Frossard period furniture. With two crystal bars to 25 exclusive VIP table areas, getting a drink from a smoking hot French military-uniformed server will be no problem at all.

With a 6,500 foot VIP lounge, and a secret hotel entrance for Gansevoort guests, there’s no shortage of 18th century style European opulence to compliment the ever present fresh graffiti style which has been liberally applied to the fine artwork and interior design alike. The Opium Group, also responsible for south beach staples like SET and Mansion, has been highly successful in their attempts to create the most popular clubs in the US with their other ventures, and they seem to be aiming for that lofty goal here again. By creating exclusive spaces in urban settings using the highest standards of design principles, the Opium Group makes clubs that even people who could actually “get in anywhere” might not be able to get into. In their defense, with a guest list that generally includes a contingent of VMA Award winners, this is no surprise. LOUIS is just the latest pink and black rose in their garden, and it’s already being called the one of the hottest, and if that doesn’t convince you, the gorgeous smiles and steamy bodies on a Friday night will!

Called Ink for short, the nightclub caters to big spenders in Miami. You can find the nightclub on Washington Avenue also known as the heart of South Beach Miami. The club has two rooms. There is a conveniently situated boutique that sells INK special line of clothes and clothes by other lines.

The music played here is described as Euro House. Music by European artists is played and DJ’s are frequently guests at the club. Neon lights that highlight tattoos found on the walls and floor of the club enhance the mood. Famous guests include people like Mandy Moore and Paris Hilton who love the boutique because of its often called “funky” clothing not easily found anywhere else in Miami. The club itself is a partnership between two designers Laurent Bourgae with Dimitri Fragoulias and Mark Caesar with Igor Blatnik. The first team are native Miamians and the second team is from Boston.

A powerfully impressive art collection in Miami, is the Rubell Family Art Collection. It impacts visitors in many ways with it’s works of contemporary art.

Owner Don Rubell has been known to talk about how he believes all artists are contemporary in their own time, for none are born already masters of their craft. Using Rembrandt as an example, Rubell notes that many old masters had early works that were better received and eventually more lasting than some of their later works. While the old masters are often popular and enduring favorites, those observations by Rubell can certainly pique some interesting thought about what is perceived as contemporary art.

Located in Miami’s Design District in a fortress-looking warehouse once owned by the Drug Enforcement Agency, the Rubell Family Art Collection boasts more than 1,000 modern works of art at any given time. From cutting-edge artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring and Cindy Sherman to some classic pieces by Andy Warhol and Jeff Koons, this collection is unique and varied. Owners Don and Mera Rubell have said that every show at the Rubell Family Art Collection is part of their personally owned art collection that the family has been amassing for over 46 years. These days, daughter Jennifer and son Jason do most of the running of the family’s collection.

The gallery of exhibits at The Rubell Family Art Collection changes the featured art twice a year, adding many new works of art as well as exhibiting many contemporary favorites. In addition to the impressive displays of art, the gallery offers a seasonal program of lectures and performances by well-known artists in the field of modern art. This gallery is a visitor’s attraction as well as an artist’s resource.

The Rubell Family Art Collection exhibit has special summer time hours for their one hour guided tours on Tuesday and Friday afternoons at 3pm.

One-piece Swimsuits

If you prefer a little more coverage, a one-piece suit is a terrific option. One-piece swimsuits come in various styles, all derived from the shape of a leotard.

One-piece Swimsuits

Maillot

In designer’s terms, a maillot is your traditional one-piece swimming suit. It normally features a scoop neck and two tank straps. The straps vary in thickness from a couple inches wide to thin spaghetti traps. Emerald Maillot from Figleaves

Halter Style

Similar to the maillot, the sexy halter style is a little more revealing. The back of this suit is open and the straps tie around the neck instead. This type of swimsuit often features a plunging neckline and the halter straps give your bust a little extra lift. Halter Swimsuit from Leoinisa

Racer Back

This is the type of suit that you see on Olympic swimmers. The racer style back allows full movement of your arms. This is the perfect style for any competitive swimmers. Racer Back swimsuit from Nautica

Surplice

This swimsuit style feature a piece that drapes across the bust section sort of like a kimono. This helps to minimize the stomach area and draws a little more attention to the breasts. Surplice Swimsuit from Swimsuits for All

Bandeau

Both one piece and two piece suits can be bandeau style. Bandeau is a strapless style which the fabric can is pleated and gathered in the middle. Oftentimes, bandeau swimsuits offer detachable straps that you can attach in different manners – spaghetti, halter, criss-cross style. Bunny Basics Bandeaukini from ShopTheBunny

Boy Leg

Instead of high cut thighs, this swimsuit extends down little bit, giving the appearance of short shorts but in a one piece suit. This is a great style for women with a little heavier thighs. Godess Boyleg swimsuit from Beach Cafe

Thong

The thong swimsuit appears like a traditional one piece suit but features a thong back, which leaves the butt exposed.

One piece thong from Ujena

Monokini

When the monokini was originally created, it was a swimsuit that left the breasts completely exposed. It wasn’t popular at all and evolved into a very revealing version of the one-piece suit. Basically the monokini is a one piece suit that the sides are nearly completely cut out, giving the appearance of a bikini that the top and bottom are connected with a thin strip of material. Halter Style Monokini from Flirt

Slingshot

Also called the sling bikini or the suspender bikini, this is another very revealing one-piece swim suit. The bottoms resemble bikini bottoms but they have straps that come straight upward and cover the nipple area. The sides of the suit are completely open. The straps come over the shoulders where they connect into one section that extends downward, becoming a thong back. Slingshot Style Swimsuit from SexySwimwear

Swim Dress

On the other end of the spectrum is the swim dress. This one-piece swimming suit has a built in skirt that provides extra covers of your stomach, butt and upper thighs. It’s a common swimsuit style that is normally available in plus-sizes and maternity wear. Swimdress from Nautica

Standard Bikini Top

A standard bikini top is shaped very similar to a traditional bra. It features two cups (which can have underwire support) and straps that go over the shoulders and connect to the band across the back. Love Kills Bikini from Ed Hardy

Triangle Bikini Top

This is your traditional string bikini. It features a two triangle shaped pieces of fabric that cover the breasts. The triangles are connected with three strings. One string runs through the bottom of each triangle with the ends tying in the back to create the band. The other two strings come out of the top of each triangle and tie at the back of the neck. Triangle Bikini top from Swimspot

Halter Bikini Top

The halter bikini top features a plunging neckline and straps that tie around the back of the neck. This lifting top is great for women who want to appear as if they have bigger breasts. Halter Bikini Top with Buckle Detail from Flirt.

Bandeau Bikini Top

The bandeau top is one piece of fabric that stretches straight across the chest. This is a strapless style. The top is sometimes gathered in the middle. If you have larger breasts, this style of bikini top will minimize your bust line. Buckled Bandeau Bikini Top from Moda Star

Tankini

The tankini is a new twist on the classic bikini. This swimsuit style has been popular for the last four or five years and will continue to be so in 2008. Instead of a bikini top, this two-piece suit features a tank top instead. This is a great option for women who want the flexibility of a two piece suit without revealing their midsection. Tankini bikini top from Leonisa

Standard Bikini Bottom

The classic bikini bottom offers complete coverage of the groin and buttocks. The legs are cut high. This style is similar to a high-cut panty.

Standard Bikini Bottom from Flirt

String Bikini Bottom

The bottom half of a string bikini is similar to the top. The triangle front and triangle back are connected with a strip of fabric at the crotch. The bikini is tied at the hips with strings. String Bikini from Berrydog

French Cut Bikini Bottom

The French cut bikini bottom has a slightly higher waist than your classic bikini. It sits just below your waistline and has high-cut legs. French cut Bikini Bottom from Flirt

Hipster Bikini Bottom

The hipster or hiphugger is almost the opposite of French cut. It sits much lower on your hips and the legs are not cut as high.

Hiphugger bikini bottom from Leonisa

Boy Shorts

This style is popular in both swimsuits and panties. This bikini bottom resembles very short shorts. It gives women a little extra coverage of the upper thighs and hips. Boy shorts make the legs appear shorter, therefore it’s not suited for petites.

Boy Shorts from SwimSpot

Brief Bikini Bottom

This bikini bottom is more common in plus-size swimsuits. The brief cut sits just below the waist and the legs are not high cut.

Luxe Tiger Bikini Brief from Ed Hardy

Thong Bikini Bottom

The thong bikini offers full coverage in the front, but only a small strip of fabric in the rear. It’s very revealing but it’s very common on today’s beaches. Obviously, this suit isn’t the best for competitive swimming or water sports, but it’s very chic and fashionable. Thong Bikini from Leonisa

G String Bikini Bottom

Even more revealing than the thong, the G-String features merely a string in the back. This swimsuit leaves your entire butt exposed. G-String Bikini from Flirt

No matter what style of swimsuit you choose, consider both your body type and the location where you will be wearing it. Obviously the more revealing styles may not be appropriate at a family beach or pool. The most important factor, however, is your comfort. Not only should the suit fit well and be physically comfortable, you should also be confident and comfortable wearing it. Select a swimsuit style that you love and flaunt your assets this summer.

There’s no place like Miami Beach. The sun shines almost everyday of the year and with the ocean breezes blowing gently, it can make you feel like your on an exotic tropical island. South Beach in Miami is one of the hottest, trendiest places to visit. And for people who enjoy sunbathing in the nude, just north of South Beach lies a stretch of beautiful beach called Haulover Beach. Here you can choose to take it all off and avoid those tan lines completely. This beach has two sections, one for regular bathers and one for nude bathers. And it is perfectly legal in the specified area of Haulover Beach. If wanting to stay close to Haulover Beach during your visit the Newport Beach Hotel is within walking distance, about 1/2 mile from the nude beach. This hotel is family owned and operated with no topless bathing allowed.

For those who prefer topless sunbathing bathing there are a number of Hotels that allow this poolside. Though topless sun bathing is not considered legal, in South Beach it is considered a common social activity along these beaches. There are many beautiful hotels in South Beach that are on the ocean or directly across from it that allow topless sunbathing. Hotel Victor is one of these. With a coed steam room and a Turkish hammam which is clothing-optional, anyone can enjoy the luxury of these spa features.

The Standard Miami is another good hotel that allows topless sunbathing and other adult activities like mud painting. This hotel is home of the famous Lido Spa known for their Turkish hamman, fun treatments and coed sauna. And of course no children under 14 are allowed.

The Gansevoort South allows topless sunbathing at their rooftop pool. This pool has more poolside prancing than swimming. One of the more expensive Hotels that allow topless sunbathing is the Delano Hotel. Shedding bikini tops is allowed during daylight hours only at this trendy hotel where the party goes on late into the night, every night.

Whether your looking for a fun vacation where taking your top off is considered socially acceptable or a beach where nude sunbathing is legally allowed, you’ll find it in Miami’s South Beaches and nearby Haulover Beach.

American Airlines Arena, completed in 1999, is the home of Miami’s NBA Franchise, the Miami Heat, as well as the city’s top venue for music concerts, comedy shows, and other entertainment events. It is sometimes also referred to as “the triple-A” or “A-cubed.” The arena is located at 601 Biscayne Boulevard in downtown Miami, right next to scenic Biscayne Bay and not far from Interstate 95. As such, it is conveniently accessible to visitors from many different Miami hotels. Other nearby landmarks include Bicentennial Park, Bayfront Park, Bayside Marketplace, and the Freedom Tower. It is also only about eight miles away from Miami International Airport.

The arena is capable of holding a maximum of over 19,000 people. There are fourteen general concession areas and twenty-eight portable concession carts located within the arena. Among the dining opportunities are Papa John’s Pizza, Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs, and Mexi-go. Patrons may also relax in the arena’s bars, which offer an attractive view of Biscayne Bay. Special merchandise may be purchased in four different concessions areas, as well. BankUnited ATMs are available in several locations inside and directly outside of the arena.

Another major feature of the Arena is Florida’s largest theater, the Waterfront Theater, a 1,000-5,800 seat venue located in the arena, which is furnished with chandeliers, carpeted aisles, and a proscenium stage. The theater has been used for private theatrical performance, dinner theater, and other proceedings which might take advantage of such a space.

In addition to its best-known function as the home of the Miami Heat, the American Airlines Arena has hosted a number of major events in its history, and it often attracts some of the world’s most popular talents. The 2004 and 2005 MTV Video Music Awards were held here, as were many World Wrestling Entertainment Events, a four-day long Phish concert, and American Idol auditions.

The American Airlines Arena has been awarded LEED certification, which is given only to buildings that meet the highest standards in energy efficiency and other environmentally friendly categories. The arena’s website, located at www.aaarena.com, includes more information on the arena, photos, a calendar of upcoming events, booking information, and directions.

If there is one thing that the Mynt Lounge can do is discriminate. Normally that would be a harsh word in the current day and age but in this instance it is a good thing. The discrimination of the Mynt Lounge, on the 2100 block on Collins in Miami Beach Florida, is actually a good thing. This establishment demands that only trendily dressed, chic, individuals with an elegant demeanor and a winning smile be admitted through the door.

The Mynt is ultra-exclusive and has been around for over seven years and has been Miami Beach’s playground for the rich and famous for most of that time. If anyone that is not currently in music, the movies, an athlete, or some other easily recognizable pop-culture status profession they will have trouble getting in but it can be done if they have a unique look or can stand out in a crowd. The ones that do manage to gain entrance will find themselves rubbing elbows with the popular elite and will have as many celebrity sightings as any episode of TMZ.

Mynt Lounge Dancers

The club itself caters exclusively to its A-list clientele and they have a zero tolerance policy in regards to paparazzi. Another interesting note about the Mynt Ultra lounge is that it is never the same two years in a row. Every summer the entire lounge is refitted from the bottom up with new furniture, new carpeting, new lighting, etc.

The Mynt has long been the nightlife spot to get into in Miami Beach and as such only the cream of the crop and the top local talent is typically found there. Some people spend years simply trying to work their ‘street cred’ to the point that they can finally win that uphill battle and enter that celebrated paradise. There are other people that simply show up night after night looking their best and end up getting in due to being either being a familiar face or simply looking particularly spectacular that night. The key to either approach is to keep trying because this club is definitely worth the occasional heartache. Anyone who can dress for success and knows how to party that wants to make a name for themselves by putting their name ‘out there’ will find this the spot to further their career simply by showing up and having a good time with the other club goers.

Though the layout changes some from year to year the quality of people stays the same. Night after night the Mynt opens up to the let the rich and famous, even the up and comers, enter into its wild embrace while keeping out all those individuals that would ruin the fun and good times to be had. For those that get in it is a place of wonders filled with people that are simply too well known to have a chance to party anywhere else in Miami Beach without a horde of photographers following them around like rabid dogs.

La Marea has a variety of options to tantalize your taste buds any hour of the day. The Lazy Breakfast Menu offers delicious options such as oyster shooters, crab cake benedict with a corn bread biscuit and cilantro hollandaise, and a NY strip steak and egg sandwich. As the day goes on, delight yourself with the Acapulco prawn cocktail, tempura shrimp fritters or pan roasted diver scallops off the appetizer menu. Add in an order of tuna or beef tartare for your slightly more adventurous side. If a salad is what appeals to you as you gaze out over the ocean, try the organic baby arugala or Trinidad tuna nicoise salad. Keep your meal simple yet delicious with a falafel wrap or Tides burger, or kick things up with pasta entrées such as the miso glazed black grouper or the bucatini all’amatriciana. Dessert will entice you with the key lime crème brulee or chocolate lava cake purse. For a different view of the spectacular setting, dine poolside off the Small Bites Menu, which includes the crispy fish tacos and Kobe skirt steak quesadilla. The exquisite dishes pair beautifully with unique cocktails like the Tides Royale or Miami Vice, or a freshly muddled Passion Royal Caipiroska. If more traditional is your style, choose a glass of wine or Champagne off our stellar wine list.

Whether you are there for romance, the oceanfront views or South Beach people watching, the tantalizing tastes of the La Marea menus will win you over.

Miami is known as a happening hot spot for the trendy, chic and celebrity set but the city has a lot more to offer if you just know where to look. Miami was once a lush tropical paradise, inhabited mainly by beautiful flora and incredible fauna. If you’d like a glimpse at what the region that is now known as Miami used to look like all one has to do is visit Biscayne National Park.

Biscayne National Park is a fabulous combination of the sparkling blue waters, lush green islands, and coral reefs that are dotted with brightly colored tropical fish. But this region wasn’t untouched by human hands, in fact humans have a history stretching back more than 10,000 years in the Miami area. Biscayne National Park features evidence of this human interaction from pirates and their shipwrecks to the more recent pineapple farmers.

This magnificent area has only been a national park for a little more than 40 years. Plans were established to destroy this natural wonder, and the northern tip of the keys, but opposition was creating its own plans and wanted to preserve the area for the future. Luckily the preservationists won out and the area is available for all to share and enjoy and there’s a bit of history at every turn. One of the most exciting historical features is the trail of shipwrecks and very soon Biscayne National Park will be offering visitors the ability to explore some of the six wrecks off its shores. But even today snorkelers can ride out to wrecks and explore.

Biscayne National Park offers a variety of activities for visitors to the park, not one of those parks where you have to stick to the trail and can only look, visitors are encouraged to enjoy the park with snorkeling, diving, boating, fishing, camping, picnicking, and exploring.

In addition to the activities that are regularly available to visitors, Biscayne National Park hosts a number of special events throughout the year that you can participate in and learn more about the region.

Family Fun Fest – Family Fun Fest at Biscayne National Park is a free program open to the public and it’s held on the second Sunday of every month from December through April. Every Family Fun Fest event is different and focuses on a different aspect of the park. The five hands-on activity stations are the favorite aspect for many guests and a passport is clicked as each station is completed, the full passport can then be traded in for a commemorative pin. Check the Family Fun Fest website to see what events are happening during your visit. In addition to the exploration stations you can take a glass bottom boat trip, an island excursion, try your hand at snorkeling, explore a canoe trip, listen to ranger talks and see a number of exhibits.

Guided Canoe Tours – One of the best ways to explore and really see what natural Florida is all about is by canoeing or kayaking through the shallow bay waters. Take that experience a little further by going on a Guided Canoe Tour. The guided tours are typically offered from January through April but there are a few tours open during the rest of the year, but sporadically. If you are interested in trying your hand at kayaking or canoeing but don’t necessarily want the guided tour you can explore the waterways on your own. Experienced boaters can take the seven mile trek and set up camp at Elliott Key or Boca Chita Key, then spend your time paddling through the lagoons, creeks, and channels. If you’re interested in seeing an exciting array of wildlife then Shallow Jones Lagoon is the place to go with its sharks, rays, upside down jellyfish, schools of tropical fish and the wading birds. Hurricane Creek is good for snorkeling and discovering the secrets held beneath the mangrove roots.

BioBlitz 2010 – BioBlitz 2010 will occur on April 30 and May 1, 2010 and is one of the biggest events planned for Biscayne National Park. National Geographic and the National Park Services have joined forces and will take up this 24 hour inventory of the park’s species. You can join this event to try to find and identify as many species as possible. This is a rare experience for people interested in ecology, national parks, and learning and helping conservation efforts. Following the BioBlitz will be a Celebrate Biodiversity Festival with demonstrations, discussions, hands on activities, exhibits and a finale of Xavier Cortada’s Endangered World art installation.

For visitors not going during one of the events there is still so much to see and do at Biscayne National Park. There are four distinct ecosystems that all sort of merge together or at least coexist harmoniously; the mangrove forest, the southern expanse of Biscayne Bay, the northernmost Florida Keys, and the very beginning of the third largest coral reef in the world. Each ecosystem has a smaller community within it that is constantly changing and the flow of wildlife is always in a state of flux, meaning each visit will offer you something new and exciting.

Before loading up your family and heading to Biscayne National Park there are a few things you should know about the park before you go. Most of the park is actually covered by water, so there will be transportation issues. If you have your own boat it is a lot easier to get around but you’ll need to know what areas are safe, what are protected and other rules of the water as they pertain to the park. If you own a canoe or kayak you’ve got a bit more flexibility to explore the park as you wish, and if you don’t own one of these crafts you can always rent them. Visiting the official Biscayne National Park website is the best way to learn about the park, what activities are best when you’ll be visiting and uncovering a bit of history and important facts before your trip. The more prepared you are the better your overall experience at Biscayne National Park will be.

The Lowe Art Museum in the University of Miami had very humble beginning with just three classrooms in 1950 but a generous donation from Joe and Emily Lowe enables a free standing museum to be opened by 1952 and the first art museum in Southern Florida was constructed.

Through the years the Lowe Art Museum has collected 17,500 objects and is considered one of the most important museums of its kind in the southeast. Some of the focal points of the museum includes it renaissance and baroque pieces, American art, ancient and Native American pieces and a number of Asian art works. The collection grew mainly due to winter residents who have provided both financial and artistic contributions.

Like many museums the Lowe Art Museum features a number of permanent collections as well as several temporary ones. The temporary exhibits are always fascinating and offer a view into other art forms that are not always available but it’s the permanent collections that really make the Lowe Art Museum stand out as a leader in artistic expression.

Greco-Roman Antiquities

The Greco-Roman Antiquities collection features some unique and remarkable pottery and sculptures. Knowledge of the region and historical events that were occurring during the creation of these pieces of artwork provide deeper insight into the art itself and a possible glimpse into the artists.

Renaissance and Baroque Art

The 41 Renaissance and Baroque paintings and sculptures create the backbone of the museum’s Western collection and are housed in a 2,100 square foot gallery made possible by a contribution from the Samuel H. Kress Foundation. These magnificent paintings and sculptures were created by some of well noted artists and most of the work centers around religious themes.

17th-19th Century European Art

More well known artists’ works grace the walls in the 17th-19th Century European Art collection and again the theme of religion plays a great role as do portraits of royalty but we begin to see more slice of life paintings that focus on the average person.

19th Century American Art

Some well respected, but many underrated artists from America are displayed at the Lowe. A large portion of the works of art center around realistic portrayals of nature and important early American events and people.

Window Glass

Modern & Contemporary

The Modern & Contemporary exhibits are a mostly a greater shift from realism into an abstract view of life and art but one stand out artist is Duane Hanson who’s sculpting technique results in hyper realistic images that are so remarkable visitors almost cannot believe they’re not looking at a live human being.

Art of Latin America

The heavy Latin influences in south Florida and Miami are obvious almost everywhere so it’s no surprise that the Latin American exhibit is so vibrant and alive with a variety of styles and types of artwork.

Photography

Not a standard photo gallery, the photography collection is rather unexpected, combining traditional pictures and prints with new techniques that give a unique aspect to pictures that aren’t just images captured on film.

Art of Native America

The artwork in the Native America collection features pieces that were simply creations of art but there are more items that were designed to be as practical as they are beautiful. It’s this dedication to beauty in every aspect of life.

Art of the Ancient Americas

There is something about the raw natural beauty of Florida that makes the Art of the Ancient Americas all that much more relevant. The art comes from both north and South America and much of it is both form and function that make it so remarkable and notable.

Art of Asia

The Asian art collection comes from a variety of dynasties and disciplines and is a wonderful sweeping view at how the artwork changed and the vast influences throughout time affected by the style and the way art was expressed.

Art of Africa

The African art collection is similar to the Asian on in that they both cover a large time period and a number of different disciplines. It’s a wonderful way to immerse yourself in a culture and glean little glimpses of the life these artists lived.

Art of the Pacific Islands

This is a particularly interesting collection of art works because aspects of pacific island life are so foreign to the average American visitor. The art is very spiritual and often deeply tied to ceremonies and rituals. One of the rituals that played heavily into some lifestyles in the Pacific Islands is headhunting, which is the basis for some very interesting and captivating artwork.

One thing that’s important to remember about the Lowe Art Museum is that it’s connected to the University of Miami and that education is at the core of the Lowe Art Museum. Educational opportunities are not only for students of the school but visitors are invited to participate as well. Staff and volunteers are located throughout the museum to provide information on particular art movements, specific pieces of art or the artists.

In an effort to reach more people and bring the Lowe’s important collections to the public there are several temporary and traveling exhibits throughout the year. These collections show up at different locations, typically education based facilities. Groups can also contact the museum to schedule a tour which can be tailored a bit to best appeal to your group’s age or interests.

If you’re a local and interested in being a part of the Lowe Art Museum – University of Miami there are several ways you can become a member. The Beaux Arts group is actively involved in promoting the museum and making it accessible to the public. Friends of Art is a civic support group for the Lowe Art Museum that looks to increase community involvement and acquire works of art. The Docent Guild provides the trained docents who help with a variety of educational programs as well as provide tours.

The Red Light District Club is one of the hottest dance clubs in South Beach. The dance club features dancers that come from an international scene, which helps create the “sexy” atmosphere found at the club according to its own website. The Red Light District Club plays mostly hip hop and dance music.

For those planning on staying in South Beach for a night or two, you may want to consider purchasing a bottle of wine from the Red Light District Club. With the purchase of a bottle, you can get free limo service from the Red Light District Club. Many people cite this as one of the reasons that make the Red Light District Club their favorite club all throughout South Beach.

The website states that the dress code for the dance club is trendy casual. Typically, however, women get very dressed up for the Red Light District Club. It is one of the hottest places to be “seen” in South Beach. Women and men do everything they can to look their best when partying at the Red Light District Club.

There are always events and parties going on at the Red Light District Club. One of the most fun events of the year is the annual Lingerie Party. The catch is, women can only wear red lingerie to get into the club for free on this day. As you can see, the Red Light District Club is not for the faint hearted. The club prides itself on being a bit risque and encouraging club-goers to have a bit of playful fun. For those seeking an experience that is more wild than the typical South Beach bar or club, the Red Light District Club can add that adventure.

Some great celebrities and music artists can be seen at the Red Light District Club. A couple years ago, the famous rapper Ludacris gave an incredible performance at the Red Light District Club. Just like the majority of South Beach bars, celebrities are no stranger to the Red Light District Club.

Overall, the Red Light District Club can add some much needed spice to any of your South Beach outings!
