Proper oral hygiene is the practice of keeping our teeth, mouth, tongue, and gums clean in order to prevent unwanted dental problems in the future. Removing bacteria and plaque is done via means of brushing on a regular basis, flossing, cleaning the tongue, and regular visits to the dentist’s office. It is highly recommended to schedule dental checkups every six months; but those who already have severe oral diseases or are heavy smokers should have appointments frequently.

A person could easily avoid having gingivitis, gum disease, or cavities by making it a point to brush at least three times a day or after every other meal. Brushing the teeth helps remove plaque and food stuck in between whilst also preventing the formation of tartar. Plaque is basically a sticky film. It contains bacteria that cling to the enamel, the base of the teeth, and the gums.

Although a good quality toothbrush may help reduce the risk of any form of dental issue, there are times that it isn’t that capable of thoroughly removing every unwanted particle in the mouth. Flossing is another factor involved in tooth care. It allows one to reach areas between the teeth that a normal toothbrush couldn’t.

However, for those who have braces or those who simply cannot floss may opt to use an oral irrigator. This is an instrument that streams water, the way a normal water hose would, to clean the mouth. The water pressure has the ability to reach hard-to-reach areas of the mouth including the gum line and the sides of the molars.

Using mouthwash chewing prescribed gums also aide in proper tooth care.

It is a fact that oral hygiene is determined by our diet and lifestyle. Consuming foods that are high in sugar may lead to the formation of cavities, while those that contain high levels of acid may damage the enamel. Chewing or smoking tobacco is not only bad for the health, but also leads to teeth discoloration.

If the hair is our crowning body, then our set of teeth is probably the window to our personality. It is what people notice initially once we open our mouths to speak, smile, or express ourselves in certain ways. Make it a habit to brush regularly and implement the other oral care guidelines mentioned above.

A growing number of people – most especially adults – are constantly on the move when it comes to finding different alternatives to brighten up their pearly whites. It is a fact that the discoloration of our teeth is affected by certain factors: the food that we eat; the beverages that we drink such as coffee, tea, and the like; our oral hygiene, and; of course, our vices such as smoking or chewing tobacco.

Setting up an appointment with a trusted dentist and undergoing an oral prophylaxis is the first step one should undertake before considering dentist whitening. Stains on the surface of your teeth will be removed during the procedure. Afterwards, the dentist will determine whether you are a candidate for whitening or not.

It is a fact that not everyone can use teeth whitening solutions such as:

· Those whose teeth have undergone root canals and have internal discoloration due to developmental circumstances. Such areas may not be whitened during the process. It is advisable to consider permanent restorations or internal tooth whitening instead.

· Those who have veneers, white fillings, or any other type of tooth restoration since these cannot be whitened using either carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide. Such substances are unable to whiten past the shade the restorations were made. Should the surrounding surfaces of the teeth be whitened, the color on the restorations will stand out and appear artificial

· Those who have hypersensitive teeth since the procedure has the possibility of magnifying the level of sensitivity they are already experiencing, thus making the procedure an unpleasant incident for them.

· Those who have natural tooth colors such as brown or grey. Tooth whitening procedures present the best results on teeth that have a yellow hue.

· Pregnant women or nursing mothers since there hasn’t been sufficient evidence and research on the safety of expectant and lactating females during the tooth whitening process.

Visit your nearest oral care specialist for a detailed explanation of the entire process on dentist whitening.

Having a cheap dentist in Miami to work on your mouth can easily be done through the help of the Internet. More and more dental clinics are listing their practice on Google Maps and other directories as part of their efforts to strengthen the commercial presence of their practice. There are hundreds (if not thousands) of dentists in Miami in different areas of specialization who can cater to your needs and budget.

Almost every avenue and corner in Miami has a dental clinic, but cheap dentists can easily be found on residential areas and non-commercial areas, since the leasing cost on commercial areas is a lot higher and the lucrative lifestyles of those living in commercial hotspots makes up for higher dental fees as well. Cosmetic dentists and reconstructive dentists usually thrive in riche communities located in financial and leisure districts, such as Boca Raton, Palm Beach, Pinecrest, Bal Harbour, and Jupiter.

If you are looking for an affordable, cheap, but skilled dentist in Miami, you can head on to Downtown Miami, Little Haiti, Little Havana, Liberty City, or Overtown. Some well-to-do community dentists who face tough competition also resort to offering rock bottom rates for dental procedures just as long as you pay them in full.

Affordable dental care in Miami is very easy to attain if you know where to look for it. Cheap dentists in Miami are usually family dentists, residential denists, and practitioners who own their own dental clinic and those who don’t have that many dental assistants. Cheap Miami dentists usually also do not have websites or any hoopla backing up their credentials, as they offset the cost of marketing to their dental fees. Newly-practicing dentists in Miami usually tend to charge much since they are still paying off their college debt, while veteran dentists also do charge a wily rate for “value-added” services. Our advice: There’s an affordable dentist in Miami because the competition there is just in any other populous city in the United States. Stick to finding low-profile dentists that have small clinics, since they may charge you a fraction of what commercial district dentists charge.

Miami dental insurance is invaluable since Miami is top-tier city – and dentists (even residential practitioners) may charge relatively more than dentists in other cities, because of all the taxes they pay and cost of keeping practice and whatnots. Do not mind the people who tout dental insurance as a “rip-off” because they don’t use the insurance to its full extent. Dental insurance is well worth the money if you know how to choose a provider, plan, and maximize its worth by utilizing all its policy features on annual checkups, extractions, etc. Insure yourself with a reputable dental insurance provider in Miami and you’ll be surprised to know that you’ll only be paying so little annually to your insurer in exchange for hefty coverage on some of life’s costliest procedures.

If you’re stuck in a financial pinch towards getting a major procedure done on your teeth/mouth, the United States government provides the opportunity for resident individuals to get free or subsidized dental procedures thru local community health programs.

The government – instead of directly disbursing funds directly to people – regularly allocates public funding (by way of grants) to cause-driven bodies such as non-profit organizations, research groups, schools, religious foundations, and other for-a-cause associations. It is imperative for an individual to communicate with these groups in order to get informed if he/she is eligible for a dental financial grant.

The inquiry process is broken down into the following steps:

1. Communicate with local health groups (such as those mentioned above) or with state dental associations. State dental associations usually run a website that gives out directions about their mission, their head office, and also provide a contact form for easier correspondence. Start out locally, and then move on to contacting state health associations for the elevation of your case.

2. State a valid reason for getting financial assistance. Emphasize that you are underinsured or are physically handicapped and cannot afford to pay immediately for a required dental procedure. Always take note of the important documents you need to bring with you during a visit to their head office.

Clear copies of the tangible documents you need to present are:

1. Proof of income

2. Tax forms

3. Pay stubs

4. Proof of billing

5. Proof of lease/residence

Note: Seldom does the government allow full coverage for dental procedures. If you earn a low annual income, you can be granted sliding scale fees commensurate to your income; so, the lower your income, the higher your coverage and the less you need to pay. However, in some cases, you’ll need to foot a flat fee for select dental services, regardless of the annual income.

3. Expect the worst, be persistent, write meticulously, and call courteously. Have someone knowledgeable in writing compose or edit a letter/email. It is important to get the attention of these associations by going straight to the nitty gritty of your concern. Otherwise, your email may be discarded. If you have not gotten a reply in two to three business days, you may have to personally visit their head office.

4. Never be the one insisting on a compromise. Local health groups deal with people like you every day, so it’s a virtue to show them gratitude if they offer you help. Unless you want to be blacklisted, assert yourself, but do not irrationally quibble with them if they cannot do anything to help you. There are other organizations that you can seek help from – so it is important to list all down before you start calling them individually.

Dentistry in Miami is like no other – there are more cosmetic dentists and orthodontists than there are endodontists and prosthodontists. What does this tell us? Miami dentistry primarily deals with the health and whiteness of teeth, among other things. Since the lifeblood of the state is its hospitality and tourism industry, people are more concerned with how their smiles fit the predominance of the trade in the city. Miami is also host to many affluent celebrities, families, and tycoons, so it’s imperative to have a blockbuster smile whenever dealing with fellow moguls.

And, like any other bustling city with its fair share of well-off residents, dental fees in Miami are pretty much the same as top-tier cities, such as neighboring Palm Beach, New York, Malibu, and Beverly Hills – all hotspots of premier dental services. People below 30 account for nearly 40% of the city’s population, making it a suitable place to establish any health-oriented business, as young adults and adolescents tend to visit dentists often.

Students who wish to pursue a dental career should be underwhelmed to find only a few options. Only a few universities in Miami are inclined in teaching dentistry, focusing on specialized dentistry courses for already-practicing dentists than providing general dentistry courses for undergraduates. Business, and not education, is more prevalent in the city, so students are likely to drift off to different states to get their college diploma.

Dentists coming from different cities/states who wish to set up office in Miami should know that the majority of the city’s residents speak Spanish as their primary language, which likely calls for the aid of an assistant translator and transcriber to accommodate appointments and general inquiries. Conducting business without the firsthand knowledge of the residents’ culture will prove to be problematic, as a lot of Caucasian-run businesses have been swathed by Hispanic –run companies.

The South Florida District Dental Association (SFDDA) represents nearly all dentists practicing Miami. Miami itself does not have a city-only dental association and has nested itself under the SFDDA since 1922. Additionally, the association is barely taking steps to congregate its members throughout the year. Unlike in New York and Chicago, where a lot of dental association members actively partake in annual, mid-year and even off-season conventions, Miami seems to be far behind in updating its calendar, with only one annual event in its roster of activities – the Miami Winter Meeting. There is also no official city dentist blog to inform patients and dentists alike of the current trends of dentistry in Miami. Searchers can only rely on blogs hosted by private dentists.

But on the brighter side, the thriving competition of Miami dentists also paves the way for reduced dental fees. The entire city, most notably Westchester and Miami Beach are packed with dental clinics.

Have you ever searched the internet for an online forum or club that discusses only video games, poker, a hit TV series, or a certain delicacy that entices your sense? Or have you looked for like-minded people who play only same video game you spend hours mashing your controller buttons? If you’ve been unsuccessful in finding buddies who share the same passion you do, then you’ve encountered an untapped niche. And that’s what most successful marketers and entrepreneurs do: find a gap (niche) and fill it (sell).

A niche, or more specifically a niche market, is a “subset” of broad market or industry. Analogically speaking, a video game market/industry branches out into various niches, and with each niche branching out into another set of niches, called microniches.

The video game industry is comprised of several genres. These genres include:

First Person shooters

Hack-and-slash games

Racing simulators

Sports simulators

Role-playing games

Casual/arcade games

Strategy games

In a marketer’s point of view, these genres are niches, since each genre has a different fanbase; these fans often have a common set of qualities, like for example first person shooter fans: they prefer using a mouse instead of a gamepad or joystick. PC Gamers, who always play first-person shooter game titles usually have a bigger budget set aside for a more powerful gaming rig, and would not hesitate to upgrade their computer if their PC does not meet the game’s hardware requirements – even if it cost them hundreds of dollars.

If you’re catching my drift, a savvy marketer knows to empathize with the fanbase’s needs – but more importantly, he knows how to supply them with the products they need. As of now, there are over a thousand forums and websites around the world where gamers can meet and discuss their opinions about hardware, and the community members themselves also shell out information on what they intend to purchase in the future. In the simplest sense, everything is laid out for the marketer: demographics, brand popularity, budget-setting, and shopper trends.

After gathering all the information about that niche’s fanbase, you should start building your own website forum or blog, populating it with content, and getting more returning users interested to join in on the daily discussions. After accomplishing that feat, you are now officially a “niche master”, someone who has gained traction in a niche market.

And being a niche master is no easy task. Competition will stifle you, as more marketers search for growing niches. Again, once you’ve gained traction, you should immediately start selling products to your users.

And the best part about niche marketing it is that successful marketers do not even own products. They simply sign up as affiliate marketers and invoke banner codes on different sections of their website. Items advertised on these niche websites are usually offered at discounted prices, so users are more tempted to buy from the affiliate sites than to buy from the company store itself. There are also different ways niche marketers can earn money other than affiliate sales or CPA (cost per action) advertising:

1. Paid product reviews

2. Cost per impression advertising

3. Selling lead information to businesses of a different niche

Some marketers have even jumped the fence and patented & developed products of their own to be sold exclusively on their niche websites.

So why not give niche marketing a shot? A lot of successful marketers started from scratch and now have Porsches parked on their doorsteps. The rule is simple: find a gap and fill it.

When the damage has been done, that’s when people deliberately go the dentist. It’s no question that a lot of us brush our teeth daily, but seeing a dentist never comes to mind until dental pain occurs.

Nowadays, setting up a dental appointment is made easier via email or patient application forms on the dentist’s website. Dental websites have downloadable patient forms that you can print, fill up, scan and send back to the dentist’s email address. There are also electronic patient forms you can fill up on the website itself. Once the patient form has been sent, a representative of the dental office will contact you and notify you about the availability of the dentist. And since most people in metropolitan communities are too busy to commute to a dental office for information, they should just go and visit the dental website regarding the practice of the dentist. It will save you both time and money, and you can also do it at your leisure.

The patient application form usually requires you to fill up these commonly-forgotten fields:

Social Insurance Number

Employer Name

Referrer Name

Full Details of Dental Insurance Provider/Other Insurance Providers

Patient History:

Are you presently under medical treatment?

Controlled/illegal substance abuse history?

Cardiac arrest/asthma episodes, etc?

Surgical operations to be done in the future?

Do be advised that dentists uphold responsibility for the confidentiality of medical information you give them. If in doubt, you can always personally visit the dentist’s office and ask for a tangible form instead of transmitting the sensitive medical information via the internet.

Meet the dentist, regardless of dental pain, at least every six months. The fee is quite reasonable, and the prognosis they give your teeth is actually quite beneficial. In your visit, the dentist follows a standard procedure of checking the farthest places in your mouth with a mouth mirror (or a dental mirror). The probing will check your mouth for any signs of cavities, gum problems, hidden cracks & sills, discolorations, and any signs of weakening dental health. The dentist may shine a bright light on your face once the probing is being done, so remember to close your eyes, or bring sunglasses. It is also imperative to brush your teeth thoroughly and remove any lipstick or cosmetic piercings before going inside the dental clinic.

Do remember that the reason for visiting the dentist does is not limited to tooth and gum problems. If you have problems swallowing food, your jaw as been locked, or if you are experiencing any type of pain has happened in your mouth, dentists are the professionals you should consult first. Do not enlist the aid of a therapist or any other pseudo-health practitioner until a licensed professional says so.

The dental office should exude an aura of serenity and comfort. Modern dental offices these days employ natural lighting from the sun, coupled with indirect lighting by way of fluorescent bulbs, which are integrated into walls and ceilings. This lighting combination’s purpose is to – as much as possible – emulate a more serene aura in the dental clinic, and also to maximize the space, since hanging light bulbs and lamps often make the dental clinic look cramped.

Green dental office design, as most interior designers call it, is catching waves since people are now more aware about the environment and are lobbying against environmentally harmful electronics and appliances. And since green concepts and designs serve not only an aesthetic purpose, but are energy efficient as well.

Lighting:

LED lighting or LED lamps, are well suited for any commercial or residential home, since they consume far less electricity and are thousands of lumens brighter than the traditional incandescent/fluorescent light bulbs; hence, more output for less input. A 7-watt LED lamp can replace a 70-watt incandescent lamp or a 35-watt fluorescent lamp. And, LED lamps are theoretically proven to last longer than its predecessors – 100,000 hours to give an approximate.

Equipment:

Technological advancements have spurred dental equipment to be: effective even with everyday usage, less resistant to wear and tear, compact, practical, have longer lives and also have dense energy-saving features. Older air compressors used to throttle two times more horsepower than newer models, and older ones were as bulky as they were ineffective in purifying the air of the dental clinic. Newer vacuum pumps also deliver more suction flow per horsepower than older models, and are so quiet the patient won’t even notice it running in the background. But among other things, the benefits of running an oil-free machine factor in on the environmental scale.

Though new dental equipment may prove costly, they still are better to invest on, since the long-run electricity savings is indeed very material, not to mention the quality, warranty, build, and more importantly, little to maintenance on your part to keep the new dental equipment up and running.

Furniture:

Since furniture is usually made out of wood, I’ll just give you a selection of the most resilient, longest lasting quality wood suited for your furniture pieces.

Mahogany – since this type of wood is virtually impermeable to rotting, it makes the ideal material for cabinets, tables, and almost any large furniture. And since this hardwood is quite pricey, we recommend buying a cabinet made out of it, since it does mahogany is too precious to be sat on as a chair. The sturdiest mahogany furniture comes from the Caribbean, more specifically in Cuba and the Honduras.

Oak, Maple, Cherry – these are the materials you typically want your wood panels made from. These types of wood are resilient to shrinkage, twisting and splitting – making them the perfect veneers for your concrete walls.

Walnut – There’s no doubt black walnut is the best material for wooden chairs. Walnut is very resistant to stress and breakage. Alternatively, you can also choose from maple and hickory, as they – like walnut – resist splitting and have a very sturdy grain pattern, fit even for the heaviest of your patients.

Shrewd business owners know a thing or two about value advertising plan when they see it. And dentists aren’t an exception. With the tough local competition dentists face, the often resort to measures not regularly practiced by other health practitioners – heavy, targeted publicity not only limited to posters and postcards, but also engagement in online advertising campaigns.

It’s no surprise – dentists are ready to invest in “sound marketing” to get more patients, but little do they know how advertising can be a hassle – and a losing gamble if the cards are not played right. Advertising on the dark side of the earth is what I mean. Expensive subscriptions, self-deprecating business write-ups, and lanky geo advertising campaigns – these are usual causes of less-than-stellar payback.

How do I know if I’m doing it all wrong? Do I need someone to help me advertise?

Advertising on your own is big mistake, because campaigning and branding needs two or more people to make it work effectively. Hire a campaign manager who has:

1. A portfolio of successful campaigns to back his credibility

2. A foray of different marketing styles: guerilla marketing, social network marketing, email campaigning, ebook writing, video marketing, etc. (the list goes on)

3. Dedication and competence to work on his own, with little supervision coming from you.

4. Knowledge in using analytics/intelligence software, such as Trellian and Google Analytics.

5. Aptness in using designing software: Photoshop, CorelDraw, InDesign, After Effects, Pinnacle Studio, etc.

Where do I need to advertise?

Before you advertise either locally or online, make sure you have a website. People are more drawn to businesses that have informative websites. Get a web designer to work on your dental website, and after it’s done, advertise on the channels below:

1. Dentist directories

A majority of dental directories have “premium” ad spaces for paying members, meaning your ad is sure to go on top of other listings on select keywords, like “[your location] dentist”. But be warned, as a lot of directories rank lower than you would expect, so make sure you’re advertising on a directory that appears on the first page of Google’s SERP for commonly searched keywords, like “find a dentist”, “dentist directory”, “1800-dentist”, “dentist near my area”, etc.

2. Review websites and web mapping services

Google has a lot of free publicity features for its users, so signing up for their services is very important. Dentists normally have a physical location, so it’s very easy to sign up for Google Maps. The software will automatically map your location, and voila – potential clients will know exactly where your dental office location is.

Insider Pages and Merchant Circle are two of the most popular review sites for dental offices. Getting a lot of positive reviews is a necessity, so sign up for these websites and encourage your patients to drop a testimonial on your review page.

3. Social media pages

Social media is the thing these days. Alexa.com ranks Facebook on top of Google based on minutes spent online, so it’s better to capitalize on what’s hot before advertising prices go higher. Microblogging services like Twitter, Plurk, and Tumblr are free to use and have a lot of viewers, so you need to engage in those services too.

Going back, Facebook allows you to create pages for your business for FREE, and managing multiple social media accounts is quite easy with the help of freeware applications like TweetDeck and Seesmic. You should get as much followers/fans for your social media accounts, and more importantly if they’re geo targeted, or living within your neighborhood.

Advertising works in many ways, and more recently, online advertising is breaking grounds because of its cost-effectiveness, despite heavy competition for advertising space. Targeted demographics, click counts, and analytics data can be accessed by the advertiser on-demand or by scheduled reports.

Small businesses benefit greatly when listing their trade on online directories such as Google Maps, Bing Maps and Yahoo! Local Maps. But as the competition grows, and as more and more people flock into free directories and the chances of you getting on top of your competitors slims to a marginal percentage.

Even seasoned dentists in the metro face fierce competition. Newer dentists moving into cities are savvier in online advertising. We have to face the facts – local advertising is dying, and it’s not at all dependable since you don’t get to know who viewed or clicked your ads. Online advertising, in this golden era of technology, is priceless for any dentist living in crowded, marketable metropolitan areas such as Boston, New York, Seattle, Miami, and Chicago.

Half of the world is “wired in” to the internet. They spend more time browsing for stuff that matters to them. It is inevitable that in the near future advertisement-driven television programs will cease to exist.

When people search on Google, Yahoo, or Bing – they always use “targeted” keywords like “boston dentist, “new york dentist”, “seattle dentist”, “chicago dentist”, “miami dentist”; the list goes on and on. These people are by far the most obvious and precious leads every dentist in that city would like to have. If you own a dental office in New York, you should heavily advertise on dentist directories only in New York, because it saves you the money, gives you targeted leads, and more importantly – if you own a website – gives you better SEO rankings.

So what do you need before you start advertising?

1. Website

You should never advertise online if you don’t have a website. Why? Because websites are proof of “legitimacy” and “web presence”. The usual searcher weighs in businesses that have a website than those who don’t. A website should be all about your: practice, service, appointment-setting, and affiliations.

If you don’t have a website, commission a web designer to create one for you. Web designers usually leave their imprint on the footer of dental websites. As much as possible, commission a web designer who has previous experience in building a website similar in category to your practice, so you can save up on fees, as usually they have preloaded templates to make the design process faster and easier.

And ad placements should obviously lead to your website, not to another directory with limited info about your practice.

2. Contact Form

A fully functional contact form that is located on a visible portion (preferably on the above fold) of the screen is essential. A quick contact form (with limited text area fields) can also be invoked on every page of the website. A more detailed contact form that has more fields (state, zip code, phone number, etc) should have a page of its own. The detailed contact form should be designated form appointment-setting. There should also be a clear distinction between an appointment form and a contact form.

Dentists are now leering away from downloadable patient application forms and moving closer to more simple and terse contact forms, which are then sent to the database of the website and can be exported at the dentist’s demand.

Having a contact form is crucial if you wish to advertise, so that the patient can immediately contact you once they click on your advertisement.

3. Analytical Data Comprehension

A dentist – whose knack for detail should also intertwine with his advertising placements – will never have trouble advertising on his own, without the need for a campaign manager. Analyzing data on your own means never having a single detail pass away. A campaign manager is usually hired by dentists who have no time to analyze the data and set placements. But more often than not, a dentist should always be open to online advertising platforms, contacting directories, and more importantly, analyzing the data their placements have, even on a weekend basis.
