The below are free or cheap places to take the kids for fun, sun and interesting activities in Miami.

Miami-Dade can be pricey but there are still loads of things to do with your kids for free or low cost. Top on the list are South Florida's pristine – and free – beaches. You can also find plenty of other free or low-cost things to do in Miami. How about visiting a museum or taking part in one of their many monthly family days? Enjoying a tropical forest? Strolling colorful Calle Ocho? They’re all offered in Miami-Dade County. Here are free and cheap things to do with kids in Miami.

Ocean on Watch

Tourists spend thousands of dollars to come to the Magic City but you can enjoy one of the top destinations for free: the Miami Beach Boardwalk. You can walk from South Pointe Park at the tip of Miami Beach and take the boardwalk from 5 St. to 46 St. all the while checking out historic buildings and luxury hotels. 

You can swim or rent equipment to surf, kayak, kite board or snorkel. They have restrooms, showers and are staffed with lifeguards during the day.

You can also get off the boardwalk to venture south into the heart of South Beach and all its glamour. Be sure to keep your child-friendly trips to SoBe during the day. For more information, call the Tourism Hotline at 305-673-7420.

Beach Bonanza

Key Biscayne’s Crandon Park Beach offers another one of the nation’s top 10 family beaches at 4000 Crandon Boulevard.  Think two miles of white sand in a serene lagoon-style setting. There are lifeguards, restrooms and picnic facilities.

If the kids get bored at the beach’s ocean blue vista, they can go the park’s gardens, both manicured and wild. The kids might really like the tropical forest with its wild overhanging vines and ferns.

The park is open from sunrise to sunset, seven days a week. The park is free, but there is a $5 weekday parking charge and $7 weekend charge for parking and the toll to get to Key Biscayne is $3 per car. For more information call the park’s office, 305-365-2320, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Slow Lane with a Free Farm

Further north and far, far from the urban crowd, your family can experience life in the slow lane: A pioneer farm with horses, ponies, cows, pigs, sheep, geese, chicken and even a donkey or two. Enjoy the pioneer Bill Graham’s Farm Village at Amelia Earhart Park, 401 E. 65^th St., Hialeah, which boasts a sugar cane press, an old general store, horseshoeing, cow milking and a fishing lake.

The park also has one of South Florida’s top-ranked mountain biking trails and a dog park. It’s free during the week; parking is $7 on Saturdays and Sundays. The park is open from sunrise to sunset with its office open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 305-685-8389 for information.

Free Hiking Trails – Birds or Bats?

Miami has its wild side – of the flying kind. You have a variety of choices at Greynolds Park, 17530 W. Dixie Highway in North Miami Beach. You can take owl walks or bat hikes. Or maybe bird sojourns or butterfly walks amid nearly 250 acres of mangrove forests and hardwood hammocks.

The park, once a rock quarry, is now restored to its natural past. It offers nature walks for everyone as well as a bird rookery, mangrove boardwalk, historic boathouse, observation mound and a lagoon. It’s on the historic Oleta River where the Tequesta Indians once lived.

The park is free and open from sunrise to sunset, seven days a week, Pay by Phone to park. Call 305-945-3425 during office hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the weekends.

Museums on Us for Bank of America cardholders

Free Trip to Cuban Miami

You don’t want to miss one of Miami’s most historic streets, Calle Ocho – Spanish for Eighth Street. It’s in Little Havana where many Cubans first settled after fleeing their island when Fidel Castrol took over in 1959. Along Southwest Eighth Street between 12^th and 27^th avenues, you can still see hand-rolled cigars, fruit stands, herbal stores, meat markets and open-windowed cafes that sell tiny cups of strong coffee for a quarter.

There’s Maximo Gomez Park, better known as Domino Park, 801 SW 15^th Ave., where aging Cuban Americans still play dominos and chess. Just east of the park is the Walk of the Stars, which honors Cuban American celebrities such as Celia Cruz and Gloria Estefan.

At the corner of 13^th Avenue and Southwest Eighth is the Cuban Memorial Plaza, which pays homage to Cuba’s heroes, including founder and poet, Jose Marti (who also has a nearby park named after him). 

The last Friday of the month is Viernes Culturales (Cultural Friday), with free music, art walks and other activities, including an occasional free guided tour, from 6 to 11 p.m. Click here for full info on this long-running monthly event.

Picnic with Miami's History

The Barnacle Historic State Park, 3485 Main Highway in one of Miami’s oldest neighborhoods, Coconut Grove, is a rare treat for kids. They get to stomp around one of Miami-Dade County’s oldest Biscayne Bay estates while daydreaming of water adventures. It’s right at their feet: vistas of blue bay.

You can picnic on the grounds and enjoy rocking chairs on porches that overlook the bay. There are reasonably priced tours of the 1891 house, the city’s oldest home, still on its original foundation: $3 for ages 13 and up, $1 for ages 6-12. Children 5 and younger are free.

Admission to the five-acre park grounds is $2 per person and you can drop that in the honors box. The park is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. six days a week, Wednesday through Monday. Closed on Tuesday. Call 305-442-6866 for more information.

Free Art Workshops for Kids

Once a month, the Pérez Art Museum Miami, 1103 Biscayne Blvd., in downtown Miami opens its doors to families to enjoy its exhibits and permanent collection free of charge.

Every second Saturday from 1 to 4 pm, the museum also schedules child-friendly art-making activities. The museum offers ongoing special exhibits. Its permanent collection includes modern art by Louise Nevelson, Wilfredo Lam and Robert Rauschenberg.

Regular admission is $16 for adults; free for children under 7. The museum is closed on Wednesdays; open Thursdays from 10 am to 9 pm; and open Friday through Tuesday from 10 am to 6 pm.  For more information call 305-375-3000.

Skateboarding and Splashing on a Budget

Tweens and teenagers now have more opportunities to do extreme sports in South Florida. The Homestead area has a highly regarded skate park and splash playground at the county-run South Dade Park, 28151 SW 164^th Ave. 

One reason is price: South Dade Park skateboarding fees are only about a third the cost of other skate facilities in Miami-Dade. Admission to the skate park is free. Helmets are required for the skate park.

The skate park is open daily from sunrise to sunset. Call 305-247-9453 for more information.

Free Fruit in the Park

Ever wanted to just pick fruit off the ground and eat it? At Fruit & Spice Park, 24801 SW 187^th Ave. in historic Redland, you are encouraged to enjoy – for free – the bounty from hundreds of trees in one of the nation’s most unusual county parks.

Fruit & Spice Park is the only county-run botanical garden in the nation. The park has more than 500 varieties of fruits, vegetables, spices, herbs and nuts. There are 150 kinds of mango trees, for example. The park even has a bamboo grove. It now boasts a lake with a waterfall and lily pads. 

The park is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission  is $10 for adults; $3 for kids ages 6-11; and free for children 5 and under. Call 305-247-5727.

Public parks, schools and libraries in South Florida are among the places  featured in a federal program that offers free food for kids and teens during summer.

The free meals are for kids 18 and younger. The Summer BreakSpot program is presented by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Florida Department of Agriculture and other partners. 

The participating locations in Broward, Miami-Dade and greater Palm Beach are offered via phone, via text or online. Some participating venues serve breakfast. Others serve lunch. Some serve both. For most of the venues, no registration is required

Juneteenth marks the emancipation of those who were enslaved in the United States. It is about learning new ways to promote economic empowerment in the Black community and sharing ideas to address racial disparities.

It is not only a time for commemorating the end of slavery and honoring Black history and its rich heritage, but it is also a call to recognize the many accomplishments and notable contributions to our society by African Americans.

Here is the schedule:

• Saturday, June 13: Live music by Sabor Latino, sharing Puerto Rican sounds. There will also be a community beach clean-up.
• Sunday, June 14: Green House Band, with reggae favorites and Jamaican vibes.

Las Olas Oceanside Park is at 3000 E. Las Olas Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale. 

Fees for parking apply. Parking information is available online. Parking in the area includes Las Olas Beach Parking Garage, 200 Las Olas Circle, with a PayByPhone payment option using the PayByPhone APP. Parking fees usually are $4 an hour.

The FIFA World Cup soccer frenzy is set to descend on Miami from June 11 through July 19. Because tickets to the matches at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens are not only hard to come by but expensive, we've rounded up a list of watch parties and other FIFA-themed events around Miami.

We will add more events as we find them.

Wear your favorite team's jersey with pride and come cheer them on at any one of these spots:

FIFA Fan Festival from June 13-July 5: Downtown Miami's Bayfront Park is transformed into a mecca for soccer fans during the FIFA 2026 World Cup event with live performances, cultural showcases, interactive soccer experiences, family-friendly activities, and of course, live viewings of matches. 301 Biscayne Blvd.

Wynwood Marketplace from June 12-24: 12-day Brazilian soccer pop-up hosted by Fogo de Chão including daily watch parties, live music, wellness activities, soccer clinics culminating in one final giant tailgate party. 2250 NW 2 Ave.

Miami Beach Bandshell on several dates: Attend watch parties and listen to live music on Monday, June 22 - Argentina vs. Austria match; Wednesday, June 24 - Scotland vs. Brazil; Tuesday, July 14 - Semi-Finals; Wednesday, July 15 - Semi-Finals 2. Lincoln Road, Miami Beach: The pedestrian strip between Alton Road and Collins Ave. on Miami will be transformed into a soccer destination in honor of FIFA 2026. From Sunday, June 14 through Saturday, July 11 there will be interactive soccer zones, daily pop-ups, youth skill clinics, oversized inflatable soccer balls, live match screenings at the many bars and restaurants that dot Lincoln Road and on Sunday, June 21 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Soccer Stars will host a Family Game Day with interactive play, community activities and youth programming. 

Sweet Paris Creperie & Cafe: Come to one of their three locations, Doral - 5335 NW 87 Ave.; Coral Gables - 3005 Ponce de Leon Blvd.; Miami Worldcenter Downtown Miami - 851 NE 1 Ave. and when there is a game at Hard Rock Stadium or France is playing, they'll offer $2 mimosas, frozen mimosas and French Riviera cocktails.

InterContinental Miami: The downtown Miami hotel is hosting watch parties at their Toro Toro restaurant with themed drink specials for participating FIFA countries, themed poolside cabanas and photo opportunities throughout the hotel and a "Skylawn Shoot the Shot" rooftop greenspace area with pick up soccer, all throughout the FIFA 2026 Tournament. 100 Chopin Plaza.

KIMPTON Epic Hotel: At this other downtown Miami hotel they're transforming the lobby into a "SubSoccer" interactive bench activation, a FIFA-themed installation by the hotel's artist in residence and "Copa Social" watch parties at Area 31 Lounge. 270 Biscayne Blvd. Way.

NoMI Village: Come watch three matches on Saturday, June 13 from 3-9 p.m. the matchups are Qatar vs. Switzerland at 3 p.m., Morocco vs. Brazil at 6 p.m. and Haiti vs. Scotland at 9 p.m. There will be giveaways between matches, family-friendly games, food vendors, music and a live broadcast from Island TV. 12351 NW 7 Ave., North Miami. Peacock Park in Coconut Grove: Brazil vs. Morocco match watch party on Saturday, June 13 from 5-8 p.m. with The Grove Soccer Experience for kids, DJ and live entertainment, photo booth, halftime surprise and food vendors. Peacock Park, 2820 McFarlane Rd.

Play the Grove This FIFA World Cup-inspired interactive experience takes over CocoWalk from June 10 through July 10. The soccer-themed interactive playground is for both kids and adults to climb, explore and interact with while celebrating the World Cup. 

Pinecrest Gardens: The Garden Watch Series: Main projection screens with enhanced audio, lounge seating, and café tables for groups. School is out and the dog days of summer are almost here. So, what fun things can you do with kids in Miami and South Florida this summer?

Summer in South Florida brings many options for free and cheap things to do in Miami during the summer.

The South Florida Adventure Pass offers discount admission to five attractions: Zoo Miami in South Miami-Dade, Sawgrass Recreation Park in west Weston, Flamingo Gardens in Davie, the Museum of Science & Discovery in Fort Lauderdale and Butterfly World in Coconut Creek.

Plus, we have places like the beach, which are always free, and regular free days at museums. Plus, many theater chains offer special inexpensive summer movies for children or options to see classic films at a discount. Cities offer "dive-in" movie nights, free outdoor movies and free outdoor concerts.

Miami-Dade also has lots of water parks, pools and splash pads, some of which are cheap to use.

Please note: The status of places may change, so we always advise checking with a venue (when possible) for official confirmation. Also, while you’re checking that, it’s a good idea to read up on new established safety protocols and guidelines for each spot.

• Explore Miami by bicycle on a free or cheap bike trail. Miami-Dade is filled with great trails that allow you to be active with your bicycles on a budget. Remember to always take sunscreen, a water bottle, bug repellent, snacks, and a camera to take pictures of your adventure.

Festive Juneteenth events in Broward include entertainment, speakers and festivals with activities for kids.

Juneteenth is a federal holiday representing freedom from slavery in the United States. In Broward, Juneteenth events are various dates, and plenty offer free entry.

Hollywood

Documentary film about racial integration in Hollywood is featured 3 p.m. Friday, June 5, with a discussion at the Hollywood branch library, 2600 Hollywood Boulevard, Hollywood 33020. Register online.

Fort Lauderdale 

Juneteenth workshop is 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 6, at the African-American Research Library, 2650 Sistrunk Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale 33311. RSVP for reservations. At the workshop, participants will work on a mixed-media Freedom Flag

Pompano Beach

Juneteenth and Sweet Potato Pie Festival presented by Broward Library is 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, June 13, and entry is free. The venue is Apollo Park, 1580 NW Third  Avenue, Pompano Beach 33060.

The event includes a sweet potato pie bake-off, food vendors and performances

Sunrise

Tunes & Trucks is Friday, June 12, featuring a Juneteenth vibe. Food trucks are offered at 6 p.m., and entertainment is at 7 p.m. with Old Skool Gang. The entertainment emphasizes Motown hits. 

Entry and parking are free. Lawn seats and blankets are recommended.

The festivities are at City Park, 6600 Sunset Strip.

Juneteenth Bingo in Plantation 

1 p.m. Saturday, June 13, Juneteenth event features Lingo Bingo for families at Plantation Historical Museum. Entry and parking are free. Plantation Historical, 954-797-2722, is at 511 N. Fig Tree Lane, Plantation 33317. 

Miramar

Juneteenth Family Day is 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, June 19, in Miramar. The Juneteenth event includes  a step show, line dancing and a fashion show. Workshops, African art exhibit, activities, performances, free books and food vendors are featured at the event. Pick up a ticket for a free book while supplies last at the registration tent. The event is at City Hall Plaza, 2300 Civic Center Place. Parking is free.

Pembroke Pines

Pembroke Pines is offering a Juneteenth event 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, June 19, with Deep Fried Funk Band, food vendors and activities. The venue is City Center, 601 City Center Way, Pembroke Pines 33025. Entry is free. 

Hallandale Beach 

Juneteenth Festival is 12 p.m. - 6 p.m. June 19 and entry is free.  The event includes entertainment, vendors, information and food. 

It's at MLK Jr. Park, 609 NW Sixth Avenue, Hallandale Beach 33009. Parking is free. 

Tamarac

Juneteenth Freedom Festival is 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, June 19, at Tamarac Village, 9090 NW 57th Street. Entry is free. 

Coral Springs 

Juneteenth event is 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. June 19 with Innergy Dance Studio and other performers, lite bites and free entry. 

Entry is free to the event and to the art museum.

South Florida on the Cheap

June 19, or Juneteenth, as it is known, is a day that recognizes the end of slavery and celebrates the culture and achievements of African-Americans.

It marks the day in 1865 when the Emancipation Proclamation - which had been issued more than two years earlier - was finally read to enslaved African-Americans in Texas. Many groups in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties are planning events to celebrate Juneteenth.

2026 MIAMI-DADE JUNETEENTH EVENTS

Juneteenth Day of Freedom City of Miami Beach
Friday, June 19 at 6 p.m. at Lummus Park, 13 and 14 St. beachfront, Miami Beach.

Seventh annual Juneteenth celebration to honor the contributions of Black Americans while remembering the emancipation of those who had been enslaved. The Peter London Global Dance Company will perform. RSVP here.

Legends on the Diamond: A Juneteenth Celebration at Dorsey Park
Friday, June 19, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Dorsey Park, 1701 NW 1 Ave., Miami

The 2026 Summer in the City free concert series in Boca Raton features tribute bands on select Fridays from June 12 to Aug. 7, 2026. Shows start at 8 p.m. (doors at 7 p.m.) with free admission. The lineup includes tributes to Billy Joel, Eagles, Bob Marley, and it culminates with the annual Battle of the Bands.

Miami Springs Aquatic Center

There's a large water slide, beach entry play area and plenty of colorful apparatus in the tot lot area. 1401 Westward Drive, Miami Springs. Residents $5, kids $3; nonresidents $20, kids $10.

Grapeland Water Park

Open May 23-25, 2026; May 30 & 31, 2026; June 5 through Aug. 8, 2026.

You can see this one from the Dolphin Expressway thanks to its colorful slides and water contraptions. Kids can spend the afternoon wading in ankle-deep water while buckets dump water on them. 1550 NW 37th Ave., 305-960-2951 for details. Adults (Miami-Dade County residents ID required) $15, nonresidents $20, kids ages 2-13 $9.

Miami Shores Aquatic Center

OPEN ONLY to Miami Shores Village Residents. Call 305-795-2241 for details.
Opening in early June 2025.

Better known as Wild Waters Aquatic Park, this multicolored water park right on Biscayne Boulevard features five water slides at three levels, interactive playground equipment, water apparatus and water cannons. 10200 Biscayne Blvd., Miami Shores. Miami Shores residents $10, kids $7.

Surfside Community Center

OPEN by reservation for lap swimming; no reservations needed for recreational swimming or activity pool (tot-lot); only residents are permitted. Call 305-861-4863 to for details.

A nice water slide and some splash areas for the kids are part of this center that is at at a beachfront location. 9301 Collins Ave., Miami Beach. Residents with ID may bring up to five guests at $5 each.

Thomas Sasso Pool in North Miami

OPEN every day except Monday

This is a great one for the wee ones with ankle-deep water all the way around a fun contraption with small water shooting apparatus and fun splash areas. 1100 NW 12th St., North Miami, 305-681-0701 or 305-895-9843 for details. $3 fee for residents and nonresidents.

Founders Park Splash Pad

Required reservations are open to Aventura residents only with a valid and existing account on the City’s Online Registration System. Also open to non-residents at $15.35 per adult 18 and over, $13.21 per child (infant to 17 years old)

Victory Pool in North Miami Beach

OPEN through Summer 2026

Two different large winding water slides dump you into refreshing pool and the tots can splash and play in their water playground. 1980 NE 171st St., North Miami Beach. 305-948-2926 for details. Residents or nonresidents pay $3, $2.50 for kids 17 and under. Free for children of NMB Residents with proof of residency.

McDonald Water Park

Aloha! Moana fans will definitely want to sail over to Subway this summer. Fans and families are excited for the highly anticipated live-action reimagining of the popular family film from Disney, which opens in theaters on July 10, 2026.

Whether rediscovering Moana’s story or introducing a new generation to the adventure, Subway is helping families see the new movie without causing major waves in their budget.

From June 11 to August 19, 2026, Subway customers can upgrade any meal to a “Moana Movie Meal Deal” for just $1 more to receive a collectible Moana cup and ticket to see the new movie.

The Moana Movie Meal Deal includes any sub (6-inch or 12-inch), salad, bowl or wrap, a drink in a collectible cup  and side (chips or two cookies).

As part of the meal deal, fans will receive one of five collectible cups featuring a beloved character from the film — Moana, Maui, Mini-Maui, Pua or Heihei.

After enjoying the meal, fans can scan the QR code embedded into the cup design to upload an image of their receipt to receive a Fandango promo code (valued at up to $15). The promo code is only valid for Moana and must be redeemed by August 31, 2026 or when Moana is no longer in theaters, which ever occurs first.

IMPORTANT: Be sure to get a printed and itemized Subway receipt showing Moana Movie Meal Deal purchase. (Purchases made via a third party service are excluded from the offer.)

There is also an option for a Fandango promo code good for up to $30 off the purchase of two movie tickets with the purchase of two (2) or more Moana Movie Meal Deals in one transaction.

Each week, after regular hours, the Norton Museum of Art presents a new experience, with an eclectic mix of live performances, film screenings, workshops, tours, and more, called Art After Dark.

Every Friday there's something new to do and see, plus a showcase of up-and-coming and established performers. In essence, this after-hours weekly discounted event has something for all ages and it's fresh and never boring. 

Art After Dark

• When: Fridays, from 5 to 10 p.m. 
• Where: Norton Museum of Art, 1450 S. Dixie Highway, West Palm Beach
• Cost: $5 members; $10 general admission; Get tickets online HERE.
• Features: Performances 7:30 to 9 p.m. in the garden.

Plus, if it's Friday, shake off the sand and head down to The Norton as part of the museum's Art After Dark series that features something new and different each week.

 And if it's the first Friday of the month, it's Jazz Friday, with cool tunes and hot vibes.

The museum is open to the public until 10 p.m. on Friday nights throughout the year. It will be closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day.

Reduced-rate tickets for these programs are $5-$10; members and children 12 and under are admitted for free. Plus, active military and county residents will be admitted free of charge, with I.D.

This popular monthly series features performances by some of South Florida’s best jazz musicians.

Third Fridays of the Month, 8 p.m. / Artist Tour
South Florida-based artists lead informal, 30-minute gallery talks about works in the Norton’s collection and special exhibitions.

Enjoy live performances every Friday including music, dance, spoken word, and more.

Parking: Available in the Norton’s main parking lot at 1501 S. Dixie Highway, immediately across the street from the Museum. Parking is $6 per car, per day. Norton Members park for free.

The Norton uses ParkMobile to collect payment for parking. To pay for parking, download the app and use the code on signage throughout the lot.

Accessible parking: Available in the main lot and in the drop-off circle adjacent to the Museum entrance (corner of South Dixie Highway and Jefferson Road).

Food and drink: The Restaurant at the Norton offers indoor and outdoor seating with views of the Sculpture Garden. Reservations available through Tock.

Fort Lauderdale offers a 4th of July Spectacular featuring fireworks and festivities including water slides, fireworks and live bands.

Fourth of July Spectacular in 2026 is 12 p.m. to 9: 15 p.m. Saturday, July 4, with entertainment and activities including:

• inflatable water slides
• beach games
• face painting
• DJ entertainment 
• 2 p.m. Sistas of the '70s featuring '70s hits 
• 7:30 p.m. Walker Hayes 
• 8:45 p.m. drone show at Fort Lauderdale beach

July Fourth festivities are at Las Olas Oceanside Park, 3000 E. Las Olas Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, and on Fort Lauderdale Beach off Las Olas Boulevard.

Parking fees for the event are $25 including Las Olas Garage, 200 E. Las Olas Circle and street parking.
