I include an engagement session in every one of my collections practically complimentary because of how important they are! This is the trial run for your BIG day. This is the day we work out any kinks—– get to know each other with you in front of my camera. I get to see the way you two interact and love on each other. You get to see the way I pose and the way I run things. These things are important, folks! If you want the most gorgeous images on your wedding day, then book engagements with the photographer that you book for your wedding day!! I met this cute family in December when I did their family pictures and I was so excited when Kristina got a hold of me for round two! A sunrise family session | Wyoming Family Photographer

I LOVVVVED this session! Cass contacted me months ago about possibly doing her family’s pictures in Laramie, WY. Obviously I live in Oklahoma and travel to Utah and Montana often but Wyoming isn’t usually in the mix. We DO, however, drive right through Laramie on our road trip out from Oklahoma to Utah so we were able to make it happen! And I actually played volleyball for a semester at the University of Wyoming in the fall of 2006 so it was fun to make a pit stop on my old stomping grounds! It brought back so many fun memories!

Since we were in the middle of traveling, we did a sunrise session. Cass picked out the location a couple weeks prior and it was AWESOME. It did SNOW for a few minutes—- but other than that it was a gorgeous morning! They are a beautiful family and I loved getting to know them!

A glimpse into motherhood | Rachel’s Mommy & Me Mini | Oklahoma Family Photographer

It’s about to get real up in this joint! This has been a long time coming and I’ve been doing a lot of old fashioned soul searching so feel free to skip down to the pretty photos if you’re not the reading type;) Let’s talk Photographer-Mom stuff for a minute. It’s no secret that motherhood is the thing I cherish most in life—- although it’s not all rainbows and butterflies; that’s for dang sure! Funny how motherhood is the thing that causes me the most worry and grief—- it brings feelings of inadequacy, frustration, and guilt like I’ve never felt before— and don’t even get me started with keeping up with pinterest mom. I jumped off that crazy train a long time ago! But I’m figuring out that if we don’t make it through some of those valleys, we wouldn’t even recognize the little vistas! Sometimes it takes feeling defeated before we truly appreciate feeling triumphant. I’ve never felt as loved as when my babies are curled up in my arms, nestling their heads in my chest as they whisper ‘I love you, Mama’. I wish I could just freeze those moments in time! I am their mother— the one they run to when they get hurt— the one they yell out for in the middle of the night after a bad dream— and the one who can ultimately influence them for the better or worse. NO PRESSURE, right? Kids are like little sponges. They soak up EVERYTHING, whether we want them to or not. So much of who they will become is determined in these early years. How can anyone take that lightly?!

I love my role as a mother and I cherish the time I have with my kids. But am I doing enough?? Being a working mom is HARD. Some days, life just feels like one big work to-do list— tackling one thing after the next! I often question if running my own business is really what I should be doing right now while my kids are still so young. Is this really what’s best for my family? For my kids? Am I keeping my priorities where they need to be? I’ve learned SO much about myself over the past couple years. When I started my business, I did it because I LOVE photography and it was a way for me to help pay the bills while my husband goes through vet school—- and BONUS: I get to make my own schedule and be home with my kids! So the decision to start was a no brainer! It was the perfect scenario.

But as I sit down and think about how lots of days pan out—- I realize that, yes– I am IN the same home with my kids! But that is completely different than BEING with them– actually engaged, in the moment, teaching and loving them. And that is just not how I want to raise my babies! So I’m bound and determined to change some things around here at MFP. And it’ll be a work in progress, no doubt—- the whole balancing work and being the wife and mom I know my family deserves to have! But I’m not gonna make my family take the backseat to my business anymore. And since this is now out in cyberspace, I’m counting on ya’ll to hold me accountable! I’m going to unplug from technology and be present. EVERY DAY. And separate my work time from my family time. Baby steps— I can do this:)

I realize that the gift of photography is exactly that—– a gift. And I made the decision when I started my business that I would do this to benefit my family financially— because at this phase in our lives, it really is saving our behinds with all those vet school student loans! But it is so much more than that. I forfeit time with MY kids so that I can capture sweet moments in time for my clients and their own kids. And even though it might sound like I wanna just throw in the towel, I LOVE that I can do that for people! I’m just gonna make darn sure that the time I’m away from my kids— whether it’s physically away from them on sessions or emotionally away from them while I’m in front of the computer editing or attached to my phone answering emails and running my business— is worth it. Because my family deserves nothing less. So if I take 12 hours to respond to your email instead of the usual 30 minutes or so, just know that it’s because I’m being a better wife and mother—– and ultimately that will enable me to be a better photographer too!

These images that I got from the mommy & me mini sessions that I had last week are the exact reason why this is all worth it. Just moms doing what they do and being who they are—- these are priceless moments that I hope they cherish for years! I feel blessed to be able to document such sweetness. Every parent deserves to remember the way their little ones looked at them in adoration— with a perfect love — their hero. Because you are nothing short of that. And we all need to be reminded of that every once in a while. Just between you and me— I think YOU’RE doing awesome, even if you haven’t showered in two days and the house is a wreck. Keep on truckin, mama! Our kids won’t remember how the house looked or even how nappy we look some days, but they will definitely remember how we made them feel<3

Was your prom night as magical as mine was?! Seriously though…. one of my favorite high school memories is prom! I was so excited when Carrin’s mom asked me to do pictures for her and her date—- don’t get me wrong, I still have those images that my mom took by the front door of my date and I doing the flower swap… but let’s be real. How fun is it going to be to have these gorgeous images to look back on?! I’m kinda jealous! Carrin’s date actually flew in from Texas— doesn’t that only happen in the movies? Can you see why I was so excited to be a part of their fun night?! And that dress—- GORGEOUS! Ahhhhh I just love it all! Thanks for letting me be a part<3

I seriously have the best 2014 team of senior models EVER! These girls represent high schools from Edmond, Stillwater, and Broken Arrow / Tulsa and are SO DARN CUTE and so much fun to be around—- I just loved their shoot and can’t wait to get each of them in front of my camera this fall!! I wanted to go with a country feel— this is Oklahoma after all— and these girls totally rocked it. THANK YOU FOR BEING FAB!!

Jessica & Ty are both country to the core—- and I think we managed to catch that;) These two have been friends since high school but it took years before they actually dated. I love when I hear stories like that! So you better be careful—- that nerdy boy that sits next to you in math class might just end up being your husband someday;) HA! Kevin & Megan are ENGAGED! | Oklahoma State Proposal | Oklahoma Wedding Photographer

Kevin called me months ago to see if I could be there when he proposed to his darling gf, Megan. Umm… HECK YEAH!! I love seeing once in a life time moments like this and especially being able to document it so they can look back on it over the years! The magic happened right in the middle of Oklahoma State’s library lawn right after they had just had a class together and the one and only— Pistol Pete— was even involved:) I think it’s safe to say that these two lovebirds definitely bleed orange and what better way to start their lives together?! And check out that rock… holy moly— such a GORGEOUS ring!! Congrats you guys!! I loved being a part of such a fun time in your lives! <3
