Flag Football Anyone?

You might remember I played in an intense flag football league last year with David McCaman, and we won the Super Bowl of course. Well the next season is starting in a few weeks, and we are looking for more people to be in the league this year. It's $65 to join. Seems a little much, but it's pretty good, competitive games- 9 week season and playoffs. There are a good amount of LifePoint guys in the league. This is one of the questions I will be answering tonight in front of the LP middle school and high school girls. I am on a panel with Rodney Wilson and Michael Holland. We will be answering tons of questions that our female students have been submitting for the past few weeks about guys. The question I put as the title is one of the lighter questions. There are some very meaty questions about guys, relationships, boundaries, marriage, regrets in the past, and much more. It should be a very interesting discussion. Pray for Rodney, Michael, and me tonight as try to answer these questions as best as we can. Trust me. We really need it on some of these questions.

On Sunday we had 1,000 less people on Sunday than we've been averaging this year due to a lot people being snowed in. Our church members are so awesome though and still gave over $16k over the weekly budget need. It's so awesome to know that in the midst of the worst financial crisis most of us have ever seen, LP's are being faithful in their giving and trusting God to carry us through this time. Keep it up church!

It has been an amazing week at LifePoint Church. We are seeing record numbers in attendance in so many areas of our church. We even had our first 3000+ non-holiday Sunday (1200 more people that last year on the same Sunday). Wow! Now we are not just excited about the numbers for numbers' sake. We are excited because more and more people are seeing the glory of our great God. More people's lives are being changed, and God is being magnified in this place. Woohoo! Yesterday was the first day of Worship in the Hub. It was great. We had a great crowd in there, and I'm very excited about what's to come. Yesterday was actually the highest attended non-Holiday Sunday at the church. PTL! People's lives are being changed. I'm so grateful that I get to be a part of the process. Worship in the Hub

Something very exciting is starting this Sunday. During our 10:45 hour we will have another worship venue in the Hub (room formerly known as the Multi-Purpose Center). It is going to be a little more driving worship style in a more casual and intimate atmosphere than the auditorium, AND I am leading worship in it almost every Sunday. I am super pumped about it. It's going to be a lot of fun and we are experience some amazing worship together. It will be the same message as the auditorium just on video, so you won't miss that.

I really hope you will join us. Maybe just try it out for a week or two and see how you like it.

Also, really important, we NEED first impressions volunteers (greeters, ushers, etc.) in there. Male or female it doesn't matter. We need you. Please consider committing to serve in the Hub for awhile. It's going to be an exciting place. Go HERE if you are interested. Thanks.

Life has been nuts lately

I can't wait until Monday. I think it will be the first time since before Thanksgiving where I can get back to a routine for awhile. Last week I was on a cruise (not complaining about that) and this week I am at an amazing conference. There's just something comforting to me about resting in routine. I look forward to being able to blog more too at that point. As for now though, it's back to the craziness.

Today, I've felt led by God to pray for two families from our church who are living out in the mission field doing amazing stuff for Jesus- Steve and Tiffany VanDyke and their kids Leigha and Kevin and Bret and Susie Cox. The VanDykes are in South Asia and the Cox's are in Brazil. Lift up a prayer for them today.

THE Book Club

Three years ago, I spent a year reading the Bible all the way through. It really had a great impact on my life and something I suggest everyone should do. There are so many passages you might not ever read at church, in a devotional book, or just doing your own quiet time. Why the time of one year? I think not taking too long to read it helps us understand a little more the full scope of God's plan. When reading random passages here and there, we don't quite fully grasp that every passage from "In the beginning" to "Amen," Genesis to Revelation, EVERYTHING points to Jesus and God's plan to redeem us through his perfect Son.

Just like everything though, this is easier to do with support, so I would like to start a group which I will call for now "THE Book Club" because this puts all other book clubs to shame. We WON'T get together to have tea and crumpets to discuss whether Job is an allegory or not, etc. There will be no physical meeting. I AM however going to start an exclusive Facebook group in which we can offer support to each other and share some things we are learning if we'd like.

So I challenge you to join my wife and me in this adventure. We are going to start this Monday, January 19th. I will post the reading schedule on my blog and on the Facebook group.

A New Era Begins

Today is a huge, HUGE day in our church as we revealed our new glocal identity. Four and a half years ago, I begin interning at the church and on my second Sunday we moved into our current auditorium. There was tons of excitement around that, and that's how it feels now. Great book

Just finished my first book of 2009 last night. It was "An Ordinary Man" by Paul Rusesabagina. Paul is the man who inspired the movie "Hotel Rwanda," and this is his autobiography. This book is astonishing, inspiring, and saddening all at the same time. It's quick read though and I highly recommend it. You can buy it on Amazon for $6. If you don't want to read it, at least go watch "Hotel Rwanda" It will blow your mind.

What I Love To Do When Leading Worship

As worship leader, one of the best things to experience when leading is to hear the people you are leading really sing out with all they can. Although, with in-ear monitors it is very easy to miss those times because all you can hear is your monitor. Well every week, I find myself sometime in the worship pulling my left in-ear out so that I can really hear the people singing. Now I don't do this so that I can think that I am a good worship leader and that people are singing out because I am doing well. No. It's just that there is not much greater than listening to hundreds of God's children all at once praise Him for His glory and to know that those voices I am hearing are people whose lives have been radically changed by God. That pumps me up.

First of all, if you haven't gotten Bob Kauflin's book Worship Matters, go buy it now. It's a truly amazing book on worship.

Second, Bob leads a conference every year called "Worship God." You can go download for FREE all of the general session and seminar messages from the conference here. They focused on the Psalms this year. I've listen to a few already and they are very good, so go check it out.
