In reply to rick. I just got one off of eBay for $20 and will put a 5Ah lifepo4 lithium battery in it. I should be able to charge the battery through the 12V socket from a lithium solar charge controller.

In reply to Michael W. Lind. Thank you so much for this!!!!! I just bought a brand new in box I found in eBay for $69 and it ofcourse needed a new rechargeable battery. Your instructions were perfect & helped tremendously! I went to batteries plus, got a Duracell replacement & now it all works perfectly & put back together no problem!!! Thank you so much! I had one of these in 2010 & loved it but it got broken. It’s all I need . Thank you again for the pics and helpful information!!!

Rick,

I don’t have any experience putting a lithium battery into a Storm Station. I would expect the charging circuit to be different for a lithium battery. Charging lithium batteries can result in fire or explosion if done incorrectly, so I don’t advise trying it.

In reply to Michael W. Lind. I need to do the same but I would like to upgrade to use a lithium battery. a lithium battery should be able to provide more power over a longer period of time. I'm curious if the charging circuit and the inverter would be compatible with a lithium battery

Thank you very much. I have decided to toss the unit. I replaced the battery once and it failed again. Plus the flashlight is difficult to replace. This is the second Black and Decker purchase I am tossing. The first was an excellent cordless vacuum but again with a battery replacement issue. As interesting as B&D products start out, they fail to be long term reliable products. Now I am resolved to never buy B&D products again

In reply to Jerry Walker. Jerry, thanks for your question! The battery packs with higher mAh are ok as long as they fit in the flashlight. I would stick with nickel cadmium for compatibility.
