Doors open at 6:30 and meeting starts at 7:00. We will be viewing the results and comments from the First Cycle Digital Contest. Chuck Kulpa will be leading a discussion about lenses, and don’t forget the May Monthly Theme of “Seasons”.

3rd Print Cycle Turn-in is 18 July. Look through your pictures and get a few printed.

If you missed the last meeting May 2nd you really missed a good one. There was a great discussion among the members and lots of questions with most everyone sharing something valuable. It was great to see everyone participating.

Savannah Photo Weekend on May 3-5 (Friday-Sunday)

We had so much fun last year, why not do it again? Photo those spots you didn’t get to last time, revisit favorite spots, and explore new areas!

No matter what type of photography you enjoy, you probably can find opportunities for it in the historic city of Savannah! There are the people and shops of River Street and City Market, the statuary of Bonaventure Cemetery, the birds at Savannah National Wildlife Refuge, beauty of the churches and museums, and so much more! Come join us for a weekend of fun and photos….as well as the wonderful selection of restaurants and taverns. You can arrange your own hotel…from the ultra cheap to the uber expensive. I’m staying at the Hilton Gardens Inn in Midtown. It is cheaper than the riverfront/historic district, but only a short drive to most places. Hotel prices are higher this time of year…so be warned!

Once you sure that you are going, drop Chris Bryson an email to riverbum67@gmail.com and he will add you to the email list. We will coordinate a few meeting spots and times before we leave. Also, add your cell phone number to that email, so we can track each other down and share ideas while there! Invite all of your photo friends to attend as well!

A. Camera Focus Groups for Nikon, Canon, and other starting at 6:30 PM. If you would like to lead one of these groups, please email our club president. Bring your camera, your owner’s manual, and your questions!

B. ISO photo review from last meeting.

C. February Monthly Theme: Shapes photo review

D. Discussion on photographs in low light and fast action (think basketball gym)

E. Discussion on March Monthly Theme: One Light

F. Beanbags: Sandra Brown has sewn 6 fabric beanbag tripods. Bring 7-8 lbs of pinto beans if interested.

G. First Cycle Print Contest Turn-in

Upcoming Field Trip: Gibbs Gardens on March 17 (Sunday)

Come and enjoy between 16 and 20 million daffodils in bloom in 50 wooded acres! An amazing display! Plus the regular gardens are lovely. Visit the Gibbs Garden website for more details and photos, or to buy tickets ahead of time. They are open from 9:00 – 5:00. Admission is $20 for 18-64 year olds. $18 for all others. If you want to go up to the manor house by tram, that costs $5 (or you can walk up the hill on an easy path for free). Assuming good weather, I plan on being there at 9:00 (leaving Macon at 6:30). Car pool if you can!

Directions to Gibbs Gardens:

North on I-75 to I-575 north
Take exit #27 on I-575 (Howell Bridge Rd) and turn right.
Drive only 0.2 miles and turn left (Ball Ground/Canton Highway) toward Ball Ground.
Go 1.1 miles and turn right at the red-light on GA-372 (A.W. Roberts Drive which turns into Gilmer Ferry Rd)
In 1.5 miles, turn left onto Conns Creek Rd
Go 5.7 miles and turn left onto Yellow Creek Rd
Gibbs Gardens is about 0.5 miles on the right

Total distance from Macon: 143 miles (about 2.25 – 2.5 hours)

Reminder: 1st Print Cycle Due March 7th

Just a quick reminder that the 1st cycle of prints are due on March 7th at our next meeting. Remember that you can enter up to 3 color prints and 3 monochrome prints. There is a fee of $2 per category ($2 for the colors and $2 for the monochromes) to help cover the cost of shipping them to the judges. For sizing rules and more info, please go to the Members Only section for Competition Rules.

If you have not already paid your dues for 2013, you will need to do so at the next meeting to be eligible for any photo competitions.

This Week’s Meeting: 02/21/13

Come join us for our monthly photo shoot, February 21, at 7:00 PM, doors open at 6:30. We’ll be experimenting with ISO and noise, so bring your camera and laptop and we’ll learn together.

No business stuff just shooting and learning.

We’ll also be reviewing your Campbell’s Soup can photos, so submit them if you haven’t yet. Prizes will be awarded, so be creative!

Club member Sandra Brown will be showing us her bean bag “tripods”. We will be talking about white balance and gray cards. Also a short presentation from one of our newest members about sharing photos on Facebook.

Time allowing we will have a short shooting session so bring your cameras.

Awards Dinner this Saturday at Logan’s Road House
