The Great Birmingham Run this year is on the Sunday October 18^th. This is the biggest mass participation event in the Midlands and the second biggest half marathon in the UK.

Last year Midland Mencap staff took part in the run and raised over £250 and although it was tough going we all really enjoyed ourselves. This year it would be fantastic if we could enter a bigger Midland Mencap team from across.

If you would like to support the Midland Mencap runners but feel a half marathon is not for you then this year there will be a cheer point at Cannon Hill Park. Speaking from experience it’s a huge motivation to see people you know cheering for you when you’ve taken on such a massive physical challenge. So It would be brilliant to have your support.

I will be sending sponsorship information around in a few weeks but if you have questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Sports Spectacluar Event 26th May

Dear All,

The Enterprise Hub will be closed on Monday May 25^th due to the Bank Holiday

There will also be no activity sessions at the Enterprise Hub or football at Moseley School on Tuesday 26^th of May due to it being school half term week.

However we have an exciting ‘Spring Sports Spectacular’ planned instead. Between 10am-12.15pm come and join the Sports team at the ‘Woodcock Sports Centre’ for a morning of different sporting activities including Hockey, Swimming & Badminton (Please turn over for the timetable). Then between 12.15pm and 2pm you can join us at ‘The Gosta Green’ pub for lunch (no more than £10 for food and drink).

If you wish to travel into Birmingham with Midland Mencap staff by local public bus, please meet at the Enterprise hub at 9.15am. We are aiming to be back at the Enterprise hub between 2.30pm-3pm that afternoon. Otherwise please see flyer for venue locations.

This day is open to anyone aged 12 or over but young people aged between 12 and 17 must be supported by an adult. The cost of the spectacular for participants is £6. Family carers are invited to join in with the sports for no charge.

Midland Mencap Netball event

On Sunday the 22^nd of March players gathered for Midland Mencap spring Netball event! The aim of this day was to give those that had played netball before the chance to improve their skills and those that hadn’t played before the opportunity to have a go.

The session included skills, drills and games. Everyone who took part showed a fantastic sporting ethos, encouraging and supporting other players while putting 100% effort into their own game.

There were improvements for player’s old and new and a special mention needs to go to Ann from the City of Birmingham Special Olympics who won player of the day. This was Ann’s first Netball session.

After the Netball everyone retreated to the studio for healthy drinks and snacks and to get to know everyone better. Well done to all those from Midland Mencap magic, Southfield netball club and City of Birmingham Special Olympics who took part in the day.

Our final thanks goes to all the ladies (Dayl, Dionne , Montana & Sandra) that volunteered their time on a Sunday afternoon to umpire, support and help all the players have such a positive netball experience. A special thanks must to Dionne for lending her considerable experience and ensuring everyone got involved with netball. Thank you so much from everyone who took part- we really appreciate it.

Midland Mencap will be holding another netball event in the summer. Please check our website in a few weeks for further details.
