300th Podcast BBQ Success: BBQ and Bocce and Music (plus poutine waffles!)

Last Saturday Midnight Poutine got its BBQ on at Parc Jeanne-Mance. To celebrate the 300th Midnight Poutine podcast, started back in 2006 by a duo of indie music devotees, we invited our closest friends (you) to come hang out in a park with us, eat some sausages and poutine waffles from our incredible sponsors, strum a little guitar, rock some old-school hiphop on an actual ghetto-blaster (yeah, it dates from pre-2006, but we're over it), do a little slack-lining, have a couple drinks and do what every good Montrealer does on a Saturday afternoon in a park - be happy it's summer in our beautiful city.

Local restaurants serving up gourmet bites and bartenders pouring local beers, cocktails and wine tastings while all-unplugged acoustic folk acts including Mia Verko, Ronley Teper, Ben Hermann and Saxsyndrum rock the crowd at a sunny Plateau park - Sounds good? Throw in some local non-profits including the Native Women's Shelter reaching out for volunteers and support and you've got yourself one heck of a good cause.

The Midnight Poutine Podcast - June 13-19

This episode is about as special as they come. Jeremy Morris and John Macfarline founded this podcast as a way to keep up on local shows, and now, seven years and numerous co-host changes later, we've hit episode #300. What does it all mean? Well, not a whole lot, except that we absolutely love this city and all the world-class music coming out of it. We've been on the ground covering the scene since 2006 and have no intention of stopping. In order to celebrate in style, we've brought our friends Sea Oleena and Ohara into the studio to perform some original tunes and one very special "Happy Birthday Podcast" song. Each of us co-hosts also share our favourite podcast discoveries - a song that we heard and fell in love with one week, whether as a host or as a listener. Even Jeremy Morris shows up in pre-recorded audio form to share his thoughts on this momentous event. After listening to this episode, we encourage everyone to hop on the nostalgia train with us and spend a little time sorting through our back catalogue. Come to the Midnight Poutine 300th Podcast Celebration BBQ this Saturday

We're releasing our 300th Weekend Playlist Podcast this week and thought that was a good enough reason for a party.

Join our writers and podcast co-hosts for a celebratory BBQ in the park. The whole thing will be a casual community affair: we'll plant ourselves near the southeast corner Jeanne-Mance park (near Duluth and Esplanade) at around 3pm and stay there into the mid/late evening. Come join at any point and enjoy some food and drink in the sun.

There will be sausages, tortilla chips, salsa, and fruit provided by Chez Latina, buns by Boulangerie Guillaume, and waffles (including one stuffed with POUTINE) by Engaufrez-vous. Get more event details here and here.

Vegan Rumble & Shake: Vegetarian Restaurants Throwdown at the Drugstore

"Those vegans are at it again," said one high and mighty carnivore about the upcoming Vegan Rumble and Shake at Le Drugstore on June 15th at 8:30pm.

The schtick: ChuChai, Crudessence and Green Panther get a little bit of time, a boxing match style atmosphere, and some awesome DJ music at a new cool spot in the Village to come up with 300 appetizers for the crowd of soon-to-be-dancing vegetarians and omnivores. Attendees sign-up for to support of the three teams. Then the chefs will recruit assistants to help them assemble the dish.

Prizes: All fifteen recruited helpers (five per team) receive a prize - Twelve prizes with a value of two hundred dollars will be given including extravagant dinners, free sports and dance training, organic vegetable baskets and food tours as well as three prizes of a value of $75: food, food and more food.

After the 'Rumble' comes the tasting and the 'Shake' (dancing).

Field Report - A sonic field trip through the Plateau

We met up in front of Salla Rosa, natch, with Gambletron — a Montreal sound artist wearing an outfit that was part mad scientist and part superhero bedecked in gizmos she used to generate a soundscape of clicks, clacks, noise, and techno beats — and her radio emitter as our guides.

Montreal tastemaker Renata Morales brings 8 days and 7 nights of art and music to the Phi Centre

Starting this weekend, the artist, fashion designer and boni fide tastemaker Renata Morales is turning the Phi Centre into her own personal club house, full of her favourite art and music. She will be curating 8 days and 7 nights of shows featuring shows by Actress, Tonstartssbandht, Prison Garde, Agor, Petra Glynt, Karneef, Paula, Slim Twig, Young Paris, Jef Barbara, and others, as well as visual installations, film screenings, and a pop up shop with pieces by Montreal designers and items not normally available in Canada.

We're just one podcast away from our 300th, and we're a bit giddy. We've finally got some big plans to announce, and not just that. This week we had the honour of being photographed and interviewed by the Gazette's finest. With a huge lens staring us right in our face, we talk about the end of Mutek, the beginning of Fringe, and just about anything else under the weather, which is still acting up. Go home Mother Nature, you're drunk. In the meantime, we'll have to make do, so here's some cheery early summer music and the promise of a great picnic in the park. See you there!
