I had the large chicken over rice and a doubles from Trini-Paki Boys today. It was a lot of food for the money with abundant complex flavors and I was stuffed afterwards. Their doubles are better than the doubles I've eaten in Port of Spain and better than the ones from Ali's Roti Shop on White Plains Road in the Bronx. I think there's more authenitic Pakistani influence in Trini-Paki Boy's food, hence the complex flavors vs. Ali's Roti Shop which is pure Trinidadian and many times removed from their Southeast Asian roots.

Sansaidan, if you read my comments you would see that the 2 that I made were about the cart on 39th was MIA and now returned. The 3rd was about the new Joy Tandoori restaurant to open soon on 39th street... Nothing obsessed about reporting the status of things happening on the street I work on. And $.75 pizza?? Like I wrote this morning. Any publicity is good publicity. His marketing worked. Royal Grill is being discussed here again and someone actually spent money to buy some food. This kind of marketing is becoming the norm. I ate at Zucker's Bagels and Smoked Fish on Church St. today and they are shamelessly bribing customers with a free bagel with cream cheese and coffee if the customer writes an online review and brings it in to show them. Zuckers suggests posting online reviews on Yelp, Menupages, Urban spoon, Trip Advisor or Seamless Web. No mention of Midtown Lunch- Downtown yet though. It makes me wonder how many other restaurants "bribe" their customers with a free drink or appetizer for "glowing online reviews" What reviews can you trust anymore? An after thought, what is going to keep someone from claiming the online review as being theirs and eating for free everyday at Zucker's since most online usernames are made up and unidentifiable???

Queens my friend. Go to flushing queens! Dirt cheap. Just get off the train and look for a fish market. there are several close by. I think 6-8 per lb. Not too bad. I've gone a couple of times. Well worth it.

Lobster around here is out of whack, and it saddens me. Last time I was in Boston, went to a random bar and for $12 I got a lobster dinner with a whole boiled lobster, broccoli and fries. I know it's not served in a cart and not in Midtown, but I'd kill for some reasonable and fresh lobster in NYC. Even live ones....

Long time lurker, first time poster. I live in Hell's Kitchen but have working in Jersey City for the past few months. I've got some downtime between consulting assignments so I figured I'd try some of the new places in the neighborhood.

Stopped by The Claw today to grab lunch. Took a look at the menu and everything seafood was out of Midtown Lunch price range. I got the Lobster Mac & Cheese to go for $12.

It was a small portion in an approximately 4" x 3" x 1.5" container. The pasta was cooked al dente and it came with a decent amount of lobster (about 10-12 crouton-sized pieces). Sauce was flavorful, but not overpowering.

All in all, a decent lunch, but too small and expensive for the daily rotation. They are working on a happy hour, but beer and wine are currently $7-$12.

@ESNY: I consider it shilling and strongly dislike it when the people who actually run the business write fake reviews. These people hired a company to market for them. Maybe they didn't even know these people intended on lieing in the comment sections of food blog websites. Besides, I would still rather read a debate about a food cart I haven't tried and have people actually go, try it and report back than reviews of potbelly and rickshaw dumpling. I only decided to try it after reading what sansaidan wrote.

Also, the food was decent. This is a food website. So...your point is.

Ok. So I kind of felt bad for these guys because I wondered if they really understand the tactics their marketing firm uses to drum up business and clearly they are just trying to survive in a saturated market.

In that spirit, I went down there to give them a try. I actually really like them. They are super friendly and accommodating. I got falafel and lamb over rice. The flavors are really great. It is a little salty but I am sure I could ask for less salt next time. More importantly, it has great complexity to the flavor. Fresh and crispy falafel. Lamb (halal meat style) with the crispy ends. I asked for cilantro sauce and they gave me a little side container. So good. In summary, for how close it is to my office, I think they will definitely go into regular rotation. Give them a chance. They are nice people.

I went by right at noon and there were people but definitely no "crowd" yet. Most people seemed to be going for Luke's but I made a beeline for No. 7 Sub. Got the Broccoli sub (Broccoli, Lychee Muchim, Ricotta Salata, Pine Nuts $9 - $9.80 with tax) which was awesomely good.

Not sure how much of it will prove to be in the "true midtown lunch" category...but its still an exciting
addition.

Anyone else go? Any other recommendations?

Here's the story on Royal Grill. ExpandingMarketing posted an advertorial about Royal Grill on Youtube Feb. 17th. DavidCarus made the initial post on Midtown Lunch touting Royal Grill Feb. 21st. David Carus is the owner of ExpandingMarketing so he is profiting by shilling for and touting Royal Grill. With the proliferation of the internet and blogs, shady marketeers abound. He has achieved his goal and Royal Grill is being talked about. Any publicity is good publicity. Just don't know if any ML's have actually bought any food from Royal Grill. May be a losing proposition for Royal Grill now that we know that he's paying for underhanded marketing tactics.
What else are they willing to lie about? When did you last wash your hands and where? Is that your pee in the Poland Spring bottle? Is that really chicken?? Just makes the wheels churn in the old noggin.
