i was not planning on posting this photograph this early (and out of order) but i needed to process it for something we were doing at church, so here it is.

it is pretty difficult to explain what being in this particular building stirred up in me but i will try. i just kept imagining the people that were involved in building it. not so much the builders or crew themselves, but the people representing the church. i kept imagining them walking around the same rooms i was standing in as walls were going up and how their hearts were most likely filled with excitement as they expected great things to happen within these walls. there i stood on the other end of that spectrum. it felt like hope crushed. awful.

i really want to go back to this particular location with more proper equipment, but for now this will have to do.

this photograph is very similar to the previous one but with more sky. my wife preferred the first one i posted, but i just could not resist processing and posting this one. which one do you prefer?

here is another look at the hotel in gary, indiana. my friend joe, who drove us out to this location, sent me this link with some interesting facts about this hotel. it seems as though it was a pretty happening joint back in the day.

i have had quite a day ...

i was able to visit the town of gary, indiana where friends and i explored a hotel, train station and church that were all abandoned and in terrible states of decay (oh yeah, and a fireworks warehouse ... lookout 4th of july). this hotel was our first stop and found right off the freeway.

i have a few shots i will post from this particular location and then move on to the abandoned train station.

i had the privilege of going shooting with my brother in law and good friend nate the other day. it has been a long time since we have been able to do that as we now have a couple thousand miles separating us. it reminded me of days passed when we would go out with no other plans than hearing the sound of our shutters as much as possible. it was tough dropping them off at the airport tonight, but it was worth it.

most of the city of chicago is pretty well lit all night. it glows this sort of odd orange and when we first moved here it actually bothered me a bit...maybe more than a bit. i am sure it was a combination of all the feelings and emotions i was working through after such a big move for our little family. i would even avoid being out at night because the light made everything feel so sterile. the funny thing is i have nearly forgotten that i once felt that way. tonight i was reminded of it as i found myself moving extra slow when coming home so that i could be out in the beautiful night. it has warmed up and people are out in full force and the city feels so alive. when i got home the first thing i did was take my wife out to the balcony so we could enjoy the night a little more before bed and at the same time we both thought it would make for a nice photograph. so here you have it.

this does not depict the orange glow i was referring to, but it does show how well lit the streets are at night. i will give you something some other time with the chi-town orange glow.

i hope everyone had a great weekend. as for me, i am going to enjoy a day off with my family tomorrow.
