My Lists

My Lists is a management tool for products that users have saved within Yahoo! Shopping. I was the design lead for this project and developed both the interaction and visual design.

From within ‘My Lists,’ users could add notes, compare products, add the product to multiple lists, share their lists with friends, and publish their list as a ‘Pick List’ on Yahoo! Shopping.

I based the concept of ‘My Lists’ around e-mail applications, as there is a similar mental model - creating lists / folders and adding items to these folders. One difference from most e-mail applications though, was that items could live in several lists / folders - which in essence was a way to ‘tag’ saved products.

The Yahoo! Travel ‘city guides’ concepts were created based on findings from usability lab studies, which explored how users researched and planned travel.

Through the use of bold color and contrast, I divided the page into several content modules which supported the various modes of research: getting a feel for the city, learning more, and idea generation.

The design also supported business objectives - monetization is achieved via links to book your trip, featured deals, and sponsored links.

While designing the page, I was mindful of search engine optimization, and incorporated the keyword repetition of ‘Las Vegas’ throughout the design.
