Search Engine Optimization Part 3 - Domains and Hosting

After choosing a keyword with relatively low competition and a decent amount of traffic, it is finally time to start your very own blog. However, before you start it, you may want to consider purchasing a domain name first. Don't get me wrong, using a simple blogger blog such as this one is fine and all, but gives you limited capabilities. It is much better to own a domain in the long run as you do not have to worry about the owner closing it down without your permission.

A good way to choose a domain name is by using the free tool Domainsbot. I highly recommend choosing a domain that matches your keyword choice. For example, if your keyword is "vegetable gardening," then use http://www.vegetablegardening.com/ as your domain choice. Using your keyword in the domain will increase your chances of a higher ranking in the search engines but even more give you initial results much faster.

After choosing your domain, it is time to get yourself some hosting. Again, this step is completely optional if you are just using Blogger's host. If you are not planning to though I highly recommend Hostgator as a good hosting company. Use the video below provided by the Thirty Day Challenge as a guide through the sign up process.

After following the steps in the above video, you should have your own domain and hosting account created. The next step, however, is to point your Hostgator servers to your domain registration account. Both the username and password for your domain registration account should have been sent to the email that you provided to Hostgator during the signup process.

To point your servers over to your registration account, just log into your hostgator cpanel account and scroll down to the bottom of the page where it shows your server information.

Now simply just copy and paste the name servers into your domain registration account.

There you have it, you finally have your very own domain and hosting account. It usually takes 24 to 48 hours for the domain to propagate, so I will give you the next step in the process in a couple of days. Search Engine Optimization Part 2 - Competition

After selecting the keyword you want to go with using either Keyword Elite or the Market Samurai keyword research tool, the next step in the process is to check its competition. This is one of the most overlooked steps in the process. It is very important that you find a keyword that is labeled as a micro niche, or a very low competition keyword. Here is a great video describing what one is here:

Now that you know what a Micro Nice is, you will need to know what a low competition keyword looks like as well. Check out this video below by Anthony of Market Samurai who teaches this step very well:

By watching the above video, you should be able to tell that micro niches that are mostly "green" in the matrix and will provide you with a more accessible level of competition. Saying that, your job for today is to see if the keyword you selected meets this criteria and if it is one that you are willing to go along with.

If the keyword you selected does not meet this criteria, then keep looking. On my next post, I will write about blog creation with your selected keyword and what you need to do with your on page factors in order to increase your chances of a high ranking.

In case you are not familiar with the term search engine optimization, or SEO, then let me explain it to you. SEO is used by internet marketers in order to increase the overall ranking of their websites for certain keywords in famous search engines such as Google, Yahoo, and Bing. By getting these top spots you the marketer can get a lot of traffic to your web page and thus make a profit from it. Let me show you a visual image of a search results page of the most famous search engine, Google, below:

As you can see in the above image, there are a number of links on both the left and right sides of the page. The right side only contain ads that are already paid by publishers on the Google Adwords program. However, the left side is where we need to concentrate on this topic.

The goal of any search engine optimizer is to increase your ranking for the keywords you want in order to get traffic and in time make money. However, many beginners wonder where do you need to start, or for that matter what keywords to choose to almost guarantee yourself some traffic.

The answer to that question is simple. In order to find the right keywords you will need to find yourself a keyword research tool. I highly recommend Keyword Elite as a high quality keyword research tool for this job.
