I’m hoping this album is a huge hit, so we’ll get a big ol’ national tour, better yet, is a Grammy in the bands future? Hey, Arcade Fire did it, so I think it’s only a matter of time until Metric does the same. Canada’s music scene has never been better.

Woah! I did not see this coming! Shaw Media just announced that Canadians will soon have their very own version of Big Brother. While it’s not the long sought after Survivor or The Amazing Race, Big Brother is an ambitious project that will definitely have a lot of people excited.

I know what you’re thinking and no, I won’t be applying. Not unless I get over my fear of going number two in public. Even typing that freaked me out.

The inaugural season of Big Brother Canada will air during the 2012/13 broadcast season exclusively on Slice™ and will be produced by Insight productions, who’ve already worked on shows like Canadian Idol, The Junos and Canada’s Got Talent.

The hugely successful Big Brother franchise aired 25 formats in 87 countries in 2011 and continues to roll out in new territories. Big Brother U.S. has consistently been a top ranked staple on Global’s schedule for 13 seasons.

Canadian TV fans will remember that years ago, on the Life Network (now Slice) there was once a show called U8TV: The Lofters, which was like Big Brother but only lasted a season of a half. I don’t what happens when a show about people living in a house gets canceled, are they still in the house?

Big Brother Canada will hand pick a diverse group of competitive contestants in the Big Brother house outfitted wall to wall with cameras and microphones to capture the house guests’ every move. Week to week the house guests compete in a series of challenges and vote each other out until one claims victory and takes home the grand prize. Fans of Big Brother can connect with the series outside of the 3-day-a-week broadcast through a myriad of digital extensions including live streaming and social engagement opportunities that allow online users to impact decisions in the house.

Details on casting and production will be revealed at a later date.

Building on the already huge success of Lost Girl, the net’s new show Continuum debuted to MONSTER numbers on Sunday. The premiere episode garnered a viewership of 900,000 eyeballs, becoming the highest single episode ever on Showcase.

Further more, the massive premiere was the highest ranked show of the night across all of Canadian commercial television. What that means is that the cable network beat Citytv, Global and CTV, which almost never happens. Continuum also claims the top spot as the #1 scripted specialty drama episode for this broadcast year across multiple demos.

Continuum is filmed on location in Vancouver stars Rachel Nichols (Criminal Minds, Alias), Erik Knudsen (Jericho, Scream 4) and Victor Webster (Castle, Melrose Place).

This is such fantastic news for fans of Canadian television!

Continuum airs Sundays at 9 pm ET/PT on Showcase.

The name might not immediately jump out at you, but he’s actually quite the TV vetran. Harcot has been hosting shows for the past 17 years including Wired, Junkyard Wars, Guess Who’s Coming to Decorate and Miss America: Countdown to the crown.

Born in Calgary, Hartcot now lives in New York with his wife Genevieve Gorder, who many will remember as a decorator on TLC’s Trading Spaces. Needless to say, that house likes reality TV!

I’ve never seen Harcot before, but I was surprised that Citytv didn’t hire in the family, like they did with Dina Pugliese for Canada’s Got Talent. It’s a strategy that worked for CTV as well, when they had Ben Mulroney host Canadian Idol and Leah Miller hosted So You Think You Can Dance.

Now that we know the Bachelor and the host, that only leaves one piece left: The Girls. As we know, they’ll make or break the show, so I can’t wait to see who the “lucky” 25 women are!

That question was rhetorical, of course there is no show that combines a sneak peek at the latest season, with a music video and fun hints at whats to come better than Degrassi! Judging from the just released trailer, the show’s 12th season looks to be just as exciting…and yes, dramatic. Take a look at it below:

You’re hooked aren’t you? Well you’re in luck, here are the trailers for the 10th and 11th seasons. The tenth season is my ultimate favourite! I wish every show was this creative with its previews, hell, I wish most shows were this creative with their entire seasons!

Postmedia announced today that they are continuing to centralize some of their operations and actually cutting their Sunday publications in Calgary (The Calgary Herald), Ottawa (The Citizen) and Edmonton (The Journal).

Reports are not confirmed, but some say that as many as 20 to 25 people will be let go from different newsrooms across the country.

Ugh.

It was also announced that The National Post is taking the Monday’s off again this summer, this is the fourth year in a row that they’ve done this.

The next few months are proving to be gloomy for Canada’s print media. A few weeks ago, it was announced that Globe and Mail staff were asked if anyone them wanted to take the summer offer, unpaid. There are also plans for the paper to start charging for online content.

What do you think about all these changes? What can newspapers do to save themselves? Also, have you seen this site, it’s called Newspaper Death Watch. Yikes. Talk about depressing.

A few years ago, I watch that movie Piranha and I actually really liked it. So much so, that it made me question everything that I had been writing about most of my life. I mean, if I liked Piranha, can I really be trusted to tell you guys about good TV shows or cool music. It really sent my life spiraling. But THEN, I looked up the reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and I was stoked to see that I wasn’t the only one that liked the movie, in fact, critics gave it a resounding 73% which is amazing for a horror movie about fish that eat people.

All of that is to say that I have 15 double passes to the Piranha’s sequel, which is aptly called Piranha 3DD.

Is that the best title for a movie ever? Yes, yes I think it is.

You probably don’t believe me when I tell you how stoked I am for this movie. Is it an Oscar winner? No. But it’s campy, bloody and lots of guys and girls in bathing suits, not to mention Ving Rhames has a machine gun leg. A MACHINE GUN LEG! I really don’t know what more could you want?

So if you’re in the Calgary-area and you want to join me at the screening, yes, I’ll likely be the first person line, ensuring I get the best seats possible, then here’s what you have to do:

1) Leave a comment tell me what you’re looking forward to the most about Piranha 3DD. (“Boobs in 3D” is a totally acceptable answer.)

2) You can also enter on Twitter, by tweeting: “Hey @mikesbloggity, I need to see Piranha 3DD because (Fill in the blank) http://goo.gl/oZzwD”

The screening is:

I wrote about all of this in this past weekend’s Metro. Click here to read it.

Tonight, at an event called the Coke Covert concert, Stampede organizers announced some of the acts that will also be coming to celebrate the big centennial. Some of the names included: Our Lady Peace, Awolnation, George Canyon, Karl Wolf, Danny Fernandes, K’Nann, Seether, The Sheepdogs, Dragonette, Carly Rae Jepsen, Simple Plan, The Trews, Big Sugar and Mother Mother.

Here is the rest of the line up, it’s pretty stellar!

The Coke Covert Concert wrapped up with a surprise concert by The Sheepdogs themselves! Man, I wish I was there, that would have been SWEET!

Only 42 days until the Calgary Stampede!
