I recently got this note from a Mill Creek resident.

Hi Dave,

I would love for the Mill Creek Times to do an article on street parking in the neighborhood. It is extremely frustrating to have to swerve in and out to avoid cars parking on the street. I would suggest some type of street ordinance, maybe time restraints or something. Everyone in the neighborhood has a driveway and a garage so there should be no need to park in the streets. My neighbor and their guests find it convenient to park their cars right in front of my house instead of theirs, blocking my view to the beautiful park. I haven’t even touched on the safety aspect, anyone could be scoping out homes by sitting in these cars, we would never know because so many different vehicles are on the street daily.

This resident did not indicate which neighborhood she lives in, but I think this situation could be fairly common in Mill Creek. I personally am not a big fan of even more signage in Mill Creek so I’d suggest that a direct request for consideration to the “offending” neighbors should be the first step, assuming the cars are from residents and not infrequent guests. Beyond that, I suppose a request could be made to the SSA to create a no parking zone, but this could be hard to justify. As for the “scoping out” concern, I’d encourage people to write down the license plate number of any “suspicious” car. Meanwhile, let’s all try to be good neighbors. Park in your garage, your driveway or in front of your own house. Don’t block the sidewalks. Keep your garage doors shut when not entering or exiting to deter crimes of opportunity.

I just received word from Uwe Rotter, the Blackberry Township Assessor, that the 2010 Property Tax Assessments will be published Thursday, September 9th in the Elburn Herald. The full press release is copied below. Mr. Rotter also is planning to conduct 30 minute meetings with individual taxpayers who have questions about their assessments, with appointment slots available from 9:00 am until 8:30 pm week days until October 12th. If you have questions about your individual taxes, I’d encourage you to call him for an appointment. Or if you want to learn about the process in general, click the link below to get the details on his Taxpayer Workshops. In any case, I believe you have a limited window of time to file property tax appeals, with the clock ticking from the date of the publication of the assessments. If you plan to appeal your assessment, now is the time to take action.

2010 Property Tax Publication Notice

The Kane County Supervisor of Assessments has informed me that the 2010

assessments for Blackberry Township will be published in the Elburn Herald

on Thursday, September 9th, 2009. The assements will also be updated

on our website at www.blackberrytwp.com

I am proud to inform you that Blackberry Township received a 1.0000 multiplier

for 2010, like in 2009. There will be no increase to the assessments from the

Supervisor of Assessments. The individual notifications to taxpayers will be sent

in the mail if the assessment was changed by my office for 2010. Please be aware

that the receiver of this notice could be your mortage company. If they, or you,

do not receive a individual notice, then your assessment was not changed.

Overall, the 2010 tax-base was reduced through my office by $33,008,428 assessed

value ($99,025,284 market value) based on the median of the prior three years.

Our next monthly Property Tax Workshop will be held on Thursday, September 23,

2010 at 7 p.m. at the Blackberry Township Offices, located at 43w390 Main Street Road.
