These lovely brooches are a new range I am adding to my craft jewellery collection. I was going to wait until the new year, but couldn’t resist adding them to my online shop straight away. I’ve got a huge batch of vintage zips in a range of colours and lengths, so the brooches come in a few different sizes. I’ve only made a few so far, so there will be more to come soon.

Here are some images of the colours/sizes avaialble at the moment:

I got a ring order this week for one of my lovely Pamuya rings – it’s the last one in this limited set unfortunately – and the customer wanted me to add an antique patina to it. The final result is amazing and I wish I’d added a patina to the other ones I’ve made in the past as it works really well with this design.

Here are some photo’s a took before packaging the ring off and sending it to Germany…

The last photo shows a close up of the hallmark indicating that the ring is sterling silver and was made in 1904 by Walker and Hall in Sheffield. I can’t remember where I discovered this set of spoons, but they are really special and the design is absolutely gorgeous – it was sad to see the last one leave my studio, but it’s going to a good home and I’m [...]

I was in Aberdour this morning taking the dog to the vet and for the first time in ages my visit coincided with the small antique shop being open – yay! I’ve not been in there since I moved to Kinghorn and they had some lovely silver spoons in the window, so I had to pop in and rummage around.

I didn’t have much time so I only managed to get my hands on one set. It’s a really lovely set of Edward Viners spoons and I’ve had this design before and the rings I made from them were really popular.

As I was leaving the shop, I noticed a lot of cutlery boxes piled up in one corner, so I enquired whether they’d be open tomorrow afternoon. Luckily they will be so I’ll be able to go in after my craft fair ends and have a good root [...]

I mentioned on Facebook earlier that I’d made some brooches from zips last night and that I’d post up some pictures on my blog. I followed a few tutorials and kind of made things up as I went along with their guidance and I really love the results.

Here are the two completed brooches – just need to make so cards to pin them to and they’re ready to go on sale.

Unfortunately because of all the upheavals this week – having to move most of the contents of downstairs upstairs because we’re getting the rest of the Oak floor laid at the moment – I’ve misplaced all the zips I found recently and so could only make two purple brooches. Going to have a hunt around for this zip stash later as I’d love to make some more for my craft fair tomorrow. I’ve got so [...]

On the Saturday 3rd December – i.e. this coming Saturday – I’ll be holding a stall at the Aberdour Christmas Fayre organised by the Aberdour Primary School Parents Association. This is being held in the Aberdour Community Centre on Shore Road (where the Library is) and the doors open to the public at 10am and close at 2.30pm – so you’ve got 4½ hours to come and do some Christmas shopping.

The organisers have not been very forthcoming with information, so I don’t know much about the event, only that there will be a stall available for me and that I’ve got only half an hour (!!) to set up – yikes!

There will be a wide variety of Milomade goodies on offer as usual, from stocking fillers, to gifts, to festive cards and decorations.

I’ve often admired lanterns like these and even saved up a load of tin cans this summer to give making them a go, but life kind of got in the way what with my roller coaster year of upheaval and the cans ended up in the recycling bin and the idea stashed away for a rainy day. Well today is that rainy day and I’m determined to give these a go at long last.

I want to share this lovely tutorial with you from Karen at Maggie Makes as I think it’s one of the best ones out there. I’ve seen lots of tutorials to make lanterns like these where you have to fill the cans with water and freeze them or fill them up with wet sand and freeze them – this is to stop the cans from distorting when you punch holes into them. I [...]

I saw these buttons on eBay recently and just couldn’t resist getting a few packs. They’re so lovely and perfect for this time of year – if it’s going to snow for real, at least I can have a little snow in my life anyway.

I want to use them to make a new range of hairclip notecard gift sets and I’m going to sit down and design a new wintry style card for them this weekend.

It’ll be nice to have some festive themed hair clips on offer at my next craft fair!

I made a few of these necklaces a while ago and had difficulty decided on how to photograph them. I played around with a few ideas and never really made any conclusions as to the best approach. I not only find them hard to photograph, I also find them hard to display at craft fairs as well! So I decided to have another go today as I’ve thought about a way I could package them up into bags ready for display/sale and might add some to my shop this week.

I made a few more necklaces recently for my craft fair in Edinburgh but didn’t sell any and I think a lot of that is down to the way they are displayed. So I’m going to try and see if packaging them in lovely bags would make them more sell able. In the meantime I want to try and sell them [...]

Jessica over at How About Orange is a total genius. I was flicking through my favourite blogs last week and stumbled across her latest tutorial and just had to share it with you here on my blog. It’s brilliant. It’s so simple too – once you know how and thanks to Jessica spending ages figuring it all out, you don’t have to – just follow the instructions and away you go…

The tutorial is all about how to make these lovely ornaments out of paper:

They are all cleverly made from 12 slotted flower shapes that all fit together neatly to form spheres. You don’t need any glue or sticky take, just some paper, a pair of scissors and one of the templates that Jessica has kindly made available. Visit the original tutorial on her blog here and [...]

So if anyone fancies buying it for me for Christmas – please do!

After seeing loads of fabulous old lockets and keepsakes at Blair Castle a while ago I really want to learn how to make lockets.

The lockets I saw at Blair Castle were for loved ones and contained locks of hair and other small momentos and they really touched me at the time, as I’d just had my operation to remove my ectopic pregnancy and I wished I could make something as beautiful as the lockets I saw on display to contain a few memories of my own.

I looked through the books that I had but none of them contained the information I needed. Then I found this book on Amazon and added it to my wishlist. I totally forgot about it until today.

It’s packed full of detailed demonstrations and introduces a [...]
