John Grinder and Judith De Lozier referred these perspectives as perceptual position. It provides a balanced approach of thinking about an event or outcome. It gives room for developing new understanding and creating new choices in case where there is little or no understanding or progress.

Let's have an overview on three perceptual positions:

First Position

You see, hear, feel the situation through your own eyes, ears and feelings. You think in terms of what is important to you and what you aspire to achieve.

Second Position

You step into shoes of the other person and experience ( see, hear, feel ) the situation as if you were in that place. In this case you think in terms of how this situation would appear or be interpreted by the other person.

Third Position

You are a detached observer and you experience it by standing back from a situation. Just like a third person you see, hear and feel yourself and other person in your mind. You think in terms of what observations or advice and what opinion would someone provide who is not involved. Above all you need to be in a strong resourceful state with an objective view of your own behavior and look for a good chance of responding differently in order to get a different and positive result.

Sometimes there is a chance of getting stuck in one of these positions:

Someone who lives in first position would tend to focus on his/ her needs rather than other needs. Their attitude is mostly a self-centered one. Addicts see the world from first position.

Someone who lives their life in second position, always thinks about other person at the expense of their own needs. Addiction situation or co-dependents or enabler in a dysfunctional well suit this description.

Someone who lives their life in third position, is a disinterested observer of life who always look in by being an outsider.

In our daily activities, it is essential to cycle through three position consciously or unconsciously since these positions are of equal importance.

Levels of learning in NLP

Levels of learning is a simple model which makes us to get know where are we in the progression of learning.a new skill. On our way to mastery we all go through these stages or may stop at some points short of mastery. When we know our level along this progression we get hopes as we see ourselves in the right track.

In NLP learning can be divided into five stages which are as follow:

Unconscious Incompetence

Unconscious incompetence is a level where we do not know what we do not know. We are not interested in learning the skill as we know a little about the subject or unaware of the subject, we probably overestimate our abilities or underestimate it.

Conscious Incompetence

This stage happens at the beginning level mostly in a new endeavor where we get to know that there is a long way to go. In simple words this is a daunting stage where we can decide either to continue or stop it.

Conscious Competence

This is a stage where we realize that practice, effort and concentration will go in hand to give the best output. We know what we know and by applying what we learn we can yield the best outcome.

Unconscious Competence

This stage is a post-learning. Automatically we do the act or skill without any effort. Once we learn to drive a car, we need not to learn it again as the skill becomes unconscious and directed by our will.

Mastery

Once the skill is learned well, we produce the state of flow surrounding the performance. Times slows down, feed back and other elements of creativity are woven into the performance of act.

NLP Modeling

NLP modeling is the process of replicating excellence and finding out how someone does something. It is the core of NLP. While modeling a skill you need to observe how the skilled person thinks about it, what beliefs and values that make them adept. You can model someone's experience, behavior, emotions, beliefs and values.

If one person can do something extraordinary, it is possible to model him and teach it to others. Modeling successful performance leads to excellence.

In brief modeling can be said as a child's primary way of learning just like how we learn to talk and walk. Mark Twain remarked that we would all stutter and stumble, if we had been formally taught these skills. Children just model the adults around them. Children not only copy the looks but also postures, voice, expressions, attitudes, way of reacting, beliefs and values. Modeling is very powerful, skills we get through these way last longer than knowledge acquired from school.

If you need to model a skilled personality, you have to focus on three neurological level.

The model's behaviors and physiology
The way they think
Their beliefs and values

Modeling phases :

In modeling three phases are involved. They are as follow:

1. Observing the Model

While observing the model, you need to imagine fully yourself in someone else's reality which is possible through NLP known to be as Second Position Shift.

The focus should be on the following:

Behavior and physiology (What the person does)
Internal thinking strategies (How they do it)
Supporting beliefs and assumptions (Why they do it)

'What' is obtained from direct observation whereas 'how" and 'why' is obtained by asking quality questions. The powerful tool to accomplish the part of the process is deep trance identification. If you need to generate more information you can use unconscious clues that would be more logical.

2. Find the Difference that will give you the Result

The basis of accelerated learning is contrast modeling, where we can get all the elements and then subtracts to get the difference. Traditional learning adds a piece of skill one bit at a time. The drawback of traditional learning is that we don't know what is essential.
If you take out elements of the model's behavior systematically, you can find out the essential elements and carry on with it, if it works out well.

The important questions carried out are:

1. How does the person achieve the result?
2. what are the behavioral patterns of the person?
3. what is the difference between him and the person not successful?

3. Design a Method to Teach the Skill you have Learned

Analyze what you have learned so that you can teach it for others. If you need to teach the skill effectively to others, you must have necessary sequences and all the relevant pieces of a skill. If you teach a skill with extra background information it would be more effective.

The Doors of Perception in NLP

In NLP our model of the word and reality are run through several filters before we experience it in our minds. There are three filters and they act as the doors of perception.

Deletion

we are always selective about our experience and leave some parts out. We actually delete them. Either we discount them as unimportant or we don't register them. Have you ever had experience of searching your keys and found them in a place you had already looked, certainly thus how deletion works.

Distortion

we change our experience, amplify it or diminishes it and see them in a different way to make it as if in a fairground hall of mirrors.

Generalization

We take certain aspects of our experience as a representative of a whole class, and never pay heed to exceptions. This is useful one in certain aspect as it let us to respond to new situations on the basis of what we have learned from similar ones in the past. It will be a problem if we generalize our experience wrongly or we don't stay open to new experiences. Beliefs are good example of generalization.

How To Get Inspired

Have a Dream

A strong intention is required to get success in life as well as in business field. If your intentions are strong then you will easily invent the amazing ways to succeed.

The first thing to do is create and cherish a vision which is quite inspiring to you. Believe what all you can do and what all you are capable. Recall all your successful memories and take pride in them. Covert Hypnosis often take place while having a regular conversation, so it is also known as Conversational Hypnosis. The objective of Covert Hypnosis is to change the intended behavior or reactions of the subject.

In a hypnotherapy session a subject is knowingly served with hypnotic suggestions and induced into trance state, but it is not the case with covert hypnosis. In conversational hypnosis, the subject is unaware of the fact that he or she is being hypnotized or the hypnotist is either a hypnotist. Trance state we induce in covert hypnosis is somewhat different from the ordinary hypnosis, though there are some similarities like the absence of the critical mind.

Covert Hypnosis Techniques:

1. Build Rapport:

Covert Hypnosis heavily dependent on rapport. We can say rapport as subconscious human interactions. If two people are in rapport they are subconsciously linked, if one gets excited, the other person also get excited too. You can build rapport by mirroring the subject physiology or body language.

2. Bypass the Critical Faculty:

The critical faculty is a part of the human mind which accepts or reject incoming information to the subconscious mind. It gives judgment and it is the part of the human mind that questions why?. Suggestions are used to bypass the critical faculty, suggestions are given directly or indirectly by using metaphors or as a story. When you use stories with embedded suggestions the creative part of the mind is activated and thus the critical faculty's ability to question or analyze is diminished.

Visualization

What is Visualization?

Visualization is the process of using imagination through pictures or mental imagery for creating vision of what we desire in our life and how to achieve it in reality. Visualization along with focus and emotion become a powerful and creative tool for attaining what we want in our life.

When we use it correctly we can maintain good health, get self-improvement, perform well in studies and accomplish our goals easily.

Athletes often uses mental imagery to improve their skills. They picturize in their mind the achievement of a specific feat , such as skiing a hill, hitting or shooting a ball, running or swimming a race etc.

If we use these techniques invariably we would get better performance and outcome. Whatever field it may be such as in delivering a speech or in business or asking for a raise or any situation that needs preparedness and fore thought it gives the best output.

How does it work?

Visualization or mental imagery gives better results because when you imagine yourself doing or performing a work perfectly the way you exactly like to do, you physiologically create neural pattern in our brain as you had physically performed the action work. The thoughts can stimulate our nervous system in the same way as the actual event occurs.

We can train our mind by practicing and rehearsing what we want to achieve. By this we create neural pattern to train our muscles to do what we exactly want them to do.

If we take sports, strong mental skills are required more than the physical skills. Most coaches believe that sports are 90% mental and only 10% physical. That's why athletes along with physical routine they get trained in visualization. Visualization should be practiced regularly to make it more effective.

The Benefits of Visualization:

1. It helps you build self-confidence

2. It can be used to see yourself performing well at high level and achieving your goals.

3. It motivates you.

4. Can be used to rehearse a performance or event.

5. Visualizing pleasant images can help you change your mood and alter negative emotions.

How to Visualize (visualization techniques):

1. Find a quiet and comfortable place where you won't be disturbed. Relax yourself by taking some deep breaths.
2. Now close your eyes and think of the goal or skill you want to achieve. Be very specific.
3. Visualize the situation you desire as clearly with as much detail you can. Fell that this is something you can achieve , experience it as if it were already happening.
4. Add some emotions and feeling. Adding feeling makes your images more real and your visualization would be more effective. For example when you visualize a garden, you should also visualize the smell of flowers, fell the textures of the tree and make the feeling of being there yourself.
5. Practice this for about 10 to 15 minutes a day.

The Power of Suggestion

Suggestions are more powerful, through suggestion we can guide or change other person's thoughts, feelings and his behaviour. Suggestions can also be used to do healing (If suggestions are properly used).

If I ask you not to think of a "Bat", you will probably start to think of a bat, this is a good example for negative suggestions.

In 1776, Mr.Franz Mesmer reveal a device called Baquette, at the court of louis the XVI (France). It is nothing but on oak barrel filled with some iron filings which gives an imperceptible magnetic charge. Mesmer told the members of the court that the charge comes from the device is very powerful, if they touch that they will have pleasant convulsions. When the members of the court touch the baquette they collapse in convulsive fits and faint. What Franz Mesmer has discovered is "The Power of Suggestion".

You can use the power of suggestions to change others life for good. If you want someone to stop smoking, avoid using suggestions like “don't smoke”. If you say don't smoke their mind would probably visualize of him smoking which will lead him to perform the action again or his belief would be that smoking doesn't cause any harm so his mind would filter out your suggestions. So to change his belief you need to use more powerful suggestions. If you say “If you don't like someone buy him a cigarette which will take away 10 Minutes of his life span”. This suggestion will probably implant or change his belief that smoking will decrease his life span.

By using powerful suggestions you could easily make powerful changes in yours and others life.

Watch this video Derren Brown uses Suggestions and NLP to influence Simon Pegg's selection of a gift.

How to Change Your Belief System

The powerful part of our being is our belief system which decides about our personality and what we become physically and mentally. What we perceive and accept forms our belief system. Our subconscious mind accept what we perceive whether it is true or false, positive or negative and drop it in to our belief system which later becomes reality.

Once we entered the world we are in a blank state, we have no ideas about the world and how it works. Human beings were genetically programmed to model or mimic those around them because of that we are easily influenced to external influences.

Our first influence comes from our Parents then our relatives and friends. We learn most of the things from our parents what we can or cannot do, most children sooner or later adopt to their parents belief system which in turn limit them and filter their reality.

How to change our Belief System:

1. First decide what belief system you want to change. For example your belief is “ I am not good looking” and you want to change this belief.

2. Now find out where the belief came from. Did someone told, you are not good looking or you just make it up yourself.

3. Create a new belief like “I am good looking” now create reasons to support your belief. Like what makes you look better than others, look for the positive things in yourself.

4. Realize what the new belief could do to you how it will change your life better.

5. Also use Subliminal Messaging software. This software flashes up positive affirmations on your screen randomly at intervals you decide. It flashes for about 10 milliseconds so your conscious mind cant see it and filter out it thus the affirmations you selected directly enters your subconscious mind and it will surely have an positive effect in your life.

NLP Techniques to Overcome Public Speaking Fear ( Fast Phobia Cure)

Everyone have fears in their lives. Fears are of different types, as some may have fear for cockroaches or worms and some may have subtle fear such as fear of public speaking which they carry it for their whole life. Researchers has ranked fear of public speaking at the top level, as most people fear for it. You can easily cure your fears using NLP.

Fear of Public Speaking?

Fear of public speaking seems to be the common source of stress for everyone. Most of us try to overcome these fear, but it may be quite impossible to do it.

If you need to accomplish certain task, eventually you have to speak in public whether you work as an individual or in group does not matter here. If you need to have a meaningful life or if you want to be a leader, you have to speak to group. To overcome these fear you can use NLP Fast Phobia Cure technique. NLP is basically the study and practise of how we create our reality. To add to its advantage, NLP is a rapid and effective method of overcoming the fear as it changes both conscious and sub conscious mind.

NLP Technique - Fast Phobia Cure

This is one of the most popular NLP Techniques used to cure Phobias. This technique works by allowing the person to dissociate and learn from the fearful experience at neurological level.

1. The first thing you have to do is define the fear or phobia that you would like to work on.

2. Next go to an imaginary world where you are in a movie theatre sitting in the centre of the front row.

3. Now float up and out of your body and make yourself comfortable in the balcony. The main purpose of this process is to get yourself detached and dissociate from the fearful experience

4. Next step you need to do is to play and watch the movie of “you” experiencing the fear of public speaking. Make sure the movie screen should be in color. (Fear will be absent because you are detached from the experience).

5. When the movie is reaching the end, you should freeze the frame into slide. Change the movie into black and white and reassociate fully into the movie on the screen. Now run the associated movie backward at ultra high speed. Freeze the screen and frame the image when you move to the beginning of the movie.

6. Now move away from the still picture, get back to the seat and while out the entire screen.

7. Repeat the steps for two or three times until you get rid of fear.

8. The final step is to test and future pace.

Fast Phobia Cure works on any fear or phobias you have. This technique is not only limited to overcome public speaking fear

NLP Self-esteem Method

Our brain cannot differentiate between something we vividly imagine and something we really experience. Sit in a comfortable chair, take deep breath and relax yourself . Make sure that you are in quiet location for at least ten minutes.

1. Take a deep breath, then close your eyes and clear your mind to be free of distraction. Now imagine you are in a movie theatre and watching the movie in darkness.

2. The movie should be of some person you admire for their strong esteem. (You can also have a movie of yourself looking, acting, and talking with great self-esteem).

3. Watch the entire length of the movie and make it approximately around 15-20 seconds clip. You are an observer and it is just a movie. (Leave it as it is so that it comes naturally to you, there can be a series of different scenes which will be good and the movie need not to be detailed with sequences and storyline).

4. Now watch out the movie for several times. Then you can move from the seat, float up towards the screen, get into the lead character and assume their role.

5. Now run the movie again playing the lead role you admire. Associate yourself fully into the movie. You are not an observer now, you are entirely a part of the movie.

6. Run the movie several time in your mental screen, each time make the the experience more intense and faster. As you regularly do this you will see you are fully associated with the self esteem created.

Handshake Hypnosis Induction Method

Handshake induction works on the principle of pattern interrupt. Most of us shake hands just automatically or naturally when you meet someone or when someone take their hand to shake with you because it is an unconscious pattern (things we do without thinking consciously like brushing our teeth when we wake up).

When the pattern has been interrupted or broken a state of total blankness is induced in the subject's mind. There is no limitation on how you can interrupt the pattern. You can just pull their arm or just softly press their hand with your thumb finger while shaking the hand. Be sure you don't cause any pain or injury when you are pulling their arm, do it gently.

Now after breaking the pattern with no time give your suggestions. Most hypnotist use “SLEEP NOW” or “SLEEP” (this words proven to be more effective). Also concentrate on your tone of voice, always speak in a gentle and relaxed tone. After they get into a trance, give more hypnotic suggestions to deepen the trance.

Ten Ways to Develop and Maintain a Positive Attitude

Positive Attitude brings optimism in our life, it helps us to reach our goals and attain success. width="200" />
Any circumstances or event we experience has no meaning on its own, we give them the meaning depending on our beliefs and values. In NLP, a frame is a border or boundaries which we put for ourselves that comes as a result of our beliefs and values.

In NLP, Reframing is the process by which we can get out of the frames that limit us and to get a better view of events and situations we experience.

There are two types of reframing they are Context Reframing and Content Reframing.

Context Reframing:

In context reframing we will be giving some value to a situation or a behaviour.

Example:

A man came to a psychiatrist and complain his wife is too stubborn.

Reframe: Good she has the tenacity to stand by you in your tough times.

Content Reframing:

In content reframing we would be changing the meaning of a situation or a behaviour to a positive or a resourceful one.

Example:

Usually in job interview I would get so nervous.

Reframe: A little bit of nervousness will let those interviewers know you really care for the job.

Power of Thought

Thoughts are more powerful and have a great influence on the output we produce. If you look around yourself you could see any thing such as pen, book and tables which are real and exist in time and space. But before it comes into a being it was merely a thought in someone's mind. Our thoughts determine our status and the reality. Thoughts precede the reality that we create for ourselves. Depending upon our purpose, beliefs and values we have thoughts.

Everyday a person gets 60,000 thoughts. In one minute a person can get forty thoughts. What thoughts you had on yesterday will continue for today. Only ten percent can be a new one others all will be the same thus you are creating only a few new thoughts and your life will be a tedious one. To make your life interesting create new thoughts and live your dreams so that you can catch up the reality soon.

Thoughts and actions comes through habits, so we are undergoing the same process everyday with only a few change in our behaviour and outcome. To make a change in your thoughts and behaviour first try to change your habits and explore new ideas .

Never run negative thoughts in your mind and get ruined by it. Our current thought determines our future, so have a good thoughts as it will reflect your reality. Future is in our hand . Thoughts is in form of an energy. If you have a positive energy it will propel you forward . In contrast if you have negative energy it will hold you back.

To make your dreams come true, focus on what is happening around you. Make yourself very curious, analyse about the thoughts how you see yourself as well as how you see others and thoughts about what others may be thinking of you, all this could influence what you could achieve. Always have a new way of thinking, seeing and experience things, events and places.

Creating NLP Anchors

Resourceful Anchoring:
Resourceful Anchoring means anchors that are associated with different emotional resources like being calm and relaxed, confidence, creativity etc. Recall and Replay different situations where you had the state of mind and apply different anchors to each resource.

Follow this simple steps to create an anchor:

1. The first step you need to do while installing the anchor is to decide on the state you want to anchor. For example being confidence.
2. For instance if you need to anchor for being confidence, you have to select an anchor (or anchors) that will induces you to the resourceful state.
3. Imagine a situation where you can experience the state or recall a memory and time where you have experienced the state.
4. When the experience is vivid and you are in desired state then you can activate the anchor or anchors.
5. Release the anchors when the experience is beginning to fade.
6. Open your eyes and apply break state, count down from 10 to 0.
7. Repeat this steps several times and each time make the memory more vivid. When the anchor is established at high point of experience you need not repeat the steps.
8. Check whether the state you need has occurred and then apply the anchor.
9. Future Pace (mentally rehearsing a future event) the occasions where you want to experience the desired state.

NLP Anchoring

Anchor is a stimulus which triggers a physiological state. Anchoring is the process of influencing how a particular stimulus will influence someone's state of mind. By using anchors you can stimulate certain reactions and change your overall attitude and behaviour towards a certain situation.

Using some external stimulus our state of mind can be changed easily. For example hearing an old song may bring you some of your childhood memories, seeing some old photographs can evoke a memory from childhood.

Anchors are so common and we use them in our daily life. We don't even know how they affect us and their existence. For example traffic signals are also anchors, red signal means stop and it is an anchor.

Types of Anchors:

Anchors can be of three modalities Visual, Auditory and Kinesthetic.

1. Visual Anchors: It can be either external or internal. In external anchor we use what is really there to see and in the internal anchor we use our imagination. For external anchor you can use your bracelet or necklace to anchor being calm and relaxed. For internal anchor you can use symbols like circle for being cam and relaxes or use a landscape, flower for being calm and relaxed.

2. Auditory Anchors: You can use sounds and music as an anchor. It can be either external or internal. Hearing to songs, music can be used for external anchors. Playing a music internally, saying a phrase internally using your internal voice can be used for internal anchors.

3. Kinesthetic Anchors: Example for internal anchor is imagining yourself shaking hand with someone, you can link this anchor to feeling of success. Examples for external anchors are tapping your knees, touching your hand.

You can also use a combination of anchors such as visualising a landscape and internally hearing birds whistling for being calm and relaxed.

How to Stop Procrastination

1. Think the reason behind why you procrastinate: Do you fear for failure of any task you take? Do you care for perfection? Do you get agitated easily?

2. If you are doing a complex task, break up the larger one into smaller piece and grapple with each piece in a separate manner.

3. If you set up deadlines for completion it would be easy for you to complete it. For instance if are reading a book you can commit to read a few pages at next hour.

4. Work out the task for few hours instead of sparing time in long stretch and take rest in between.

5 .If the task is so large and complex try it out with the easiest aspect.

6. You can make yourself accountable by getting help from your family, friends and colleagues. If you bet with them you can finish the task at stipulated period.

7. Find out how you get distracted and keep away from it which would help you to concentrate in your task.

8. In a population about 15 to 20 percent constitute the procrastinators. Procrastinators don't have the confidence and never expect that they would do a task well. Let us explore the reason behind why people procrastinate.

Poor Work Habits

People who procrastinate everything have poor work habit. They always putt off the task with yesterday. They mostly hassle for giving priority to task, never schedule time and organize poorly. They feel that they are put up in high pressure and always talk about high stress. They start their task only at the last minute.

Feeling Overwhelmed

When you are not aware of any task or not able to do task or feel task as a time-consuming process, you may feel very hard and impossible to complete it. In such case you must take it as challenging role and break the task down into manageable parts. When starting point is decided, complete the task within a short spans say ten to fifteen minutes. If you are able to complete it on time, then you will develop confident and and impart the feeling of accomplishment.

Rather they do Something

If you are not interested in doing a task never put it off. Try to do it as far as possible as you can or else your task increases and you have to carry a heavy load so don't Procrastinate as you can't escape from completing the task, one or other day you have to do it. As “stitch on time saves nine” Complete your task on time.

Trying to be too Perfect

A perfectionist always take task as burden and make it impossible to complete the task on time. Until they meet their standard for perfection in work they procrastinate the completions even though they started the task earlier. But nobody recognize or appreciate their standards. They have spared the time unnecessarily on meeting their standard for perfection. It is wise to be realistic rather than being ideal. Time management is an essential one to be followed, so it is better to do the task within the stipulated period.

The Power of Perspective

Yes its true “We Limit Ourselves”. Your perspective is the one which decides your life. You may see a glass as a half empty or see a glass as a half full it depends on your perspective. The way we look at an issue affect our feel and reflects it in our action. Perspective is the one that controls our daily lives. Remember what is said in Law of Attraction what we feel, experience and think today is what we get in the future.

For instance if you are very optimistic in your every approach then you will quest for a positive side in every experience that occurs for you it may be good or bad you will only see the positive side of the experience. If you have a negative perspective then even though the experience may be good but because of your negative perspective you end up feeling the experience as a bad one.

Here is how you can maintain a Positive Perspective:

1. Think Constructively.

If you think constructively you can get the positive perspective. The factors to be considered are real solution, problem solving, honesty, objective thinking and logical reasoning. But never dwell in the past as you have nothing to do with it and it won't be fruitful too. Remember that brooding over the past and having negative thoughts make your state worse than it was before.

2. Think of Failure and Setback as a Learning Experience

Never get yourself depressed when failure approaches you, think it of as a learning experience that is the secret of the successful person. Ready to face the obstacles, try to solve the problem and in every mistake you do learn something from it.

3. Always Believe in Yourself and Keep the Faith

If you don't believe in yourself then how can you expect someone to believe you? Believing that you can do it and keeping the faith is an essential step towards making a life you are willing to have and never give up your faith.

Hypnosis Basics for Beginners

In this article we discuss on some of the language patterns used in hypnosis and in NLP. Subliminal Persuasion is an art of influencing others without the knowledge of that person. When subliminal methods are used it bypass the conscious decision-making abilities of a person and the commands are registered directly in the subconscious of that person.

Some Powerful Subliminal Persuasion Techniques

Subliminal Persuasion using Inflection:

A simple sentences like “I can't offer that price” have a lot of meaning, it depends on the word you emphasize.

Example: I can't offer you that price (But someone can do that).
I can't offer you that price (There is no way of reducing price).
I can't offer you that price (But I can offer someone else).
I can't offer you that price (But I could offer a good price).

You can see on the above example the meaning of the statement is determined by the words we emphasize. If you can't offer the price he is asking, you can say “I cant offer you that price” and he may still feel good and you should immediately come with the best price you could offer for him.

Subliminal Flash:

When messages or images flashed in front of us at a very high speed, our naked eyes can't see it. The positive messages or images flashed will not be filtered out by our conscious mind and the message directly enters our subconscious mind. The suggestions entered your subconscious mind will have a great effect on our attitude and behaviour.

There are lot of free subliminal flash software available on the Internet, use the subliminal flash software for at least a month to see some positive results.

NLP Swish Pattern Technique

The swish pattern is a powerful NLP technique that enables you to break an automatic thought or behaviour pattern and replace them with a more resourceful one. The swish pattern can be used for problems such as fear of public speaking, anger management, smoking cessation, nervousness, lack of self-confidence and phobias.

Here is the Swish Pattern procedure:

1. Recognize the cue image of the behaviour that you wish to change. Ask yourself what occurs just before this unwanted state begins, what image or scene come to your mind? Remember to think in terms of submodalities to get a detailed sense of the scene.

2. Select a replacement image. You should create an image of how you will be or want to be after changing the unwanted behaviour. Enhance the qualities such as submodalities of the scene.

3. Now place the replacement image in the corner or behind the cue image of unwanted behaviour in your mind. The replacement image or scene should be in small size compared to the cue image of unwanted behaviour.

4. Now swish the two images. You should make both the images change simultaneously in your mind with increase in speed. When you swish have the cue image of unwanted behaviour becoming smaller and shot off into a distance, at the same time have the replacement image (desired behaviour) come closer and larger by completely replacing the image of undesired behaviour. Repeat the process until you feel the scene of desired behaviour is totally replaced the image of unwanted behaviour.

5. Repeat this swish five to seven times. Remember to apply break state during each swish.

6. Now enhance the submodalities of the replaced image.

7. Do a test. Now try to think of the unwanted behaviour again. I am sure you will find hard or impossible to act it out, you should actually think on how to do it, it will not be the same automatic response as it used to be.

How to Quit Smoking Using the Swish Pattern:

1. Identify the cue image that precedes you to smoking, the image that triggers you to the habit is called cue image. The image may be your hand going to cigarette, seeing yourself with cigarette or seeing a cigarette whatever it comes in your mind.

2. Now develop a powerful replacement image. It can be an image of you are standing confident that you had quit smoking or just a quit smoking picture, just think of an image that makes you feel that you will quit smoking.

3. Place the replacement image and apply swish as mentioned above.

4. Repeat the process every time you feel urge to go for a cigarette.
