One of my favorite online shops is Chigo. I adore pretty much everything on the site. On my latest visit, I fell smitten with their Kids Tableware Series and THIS set of painted plates. Another is ONE KILN ceramic lunch plate. Lastly is the Playthings Kitchen Set.
I love a good book on design. I especially love when the designers just so happen to be married.... with 7 children! I'm referring to Robert and Cortney Novogratz of the firm SIXX Design. I first got introduced to them via pages of the late Cookie Magazine and was instantly smitten and intrigued by their body of work ... both personal and work wise!
So, over the past couple of days, I've been working my way through their new book called Downtown Chic. I can't remember the last time that I flipped through every single page of a design book before. I would say, hands down, they are the most talented duo, who also balance a huge family, that I've ever seen. The book is filled with amazing transformations, pictures and quotes that seamlessly work so well within it's bound cover. One quote that I loved was that of Charles Eames, " The details are not the details. They make the design." (Perhaps that hits a heart string over here at Minor Details)
They have a very bold and vibrantly visual understanding of space. I suppose I'm smitten because they apply the art of family into that approach. Here are a few of the spaces that reflect just that.....

As you all know, I'm a short post writer. I feel that less is more and I like the visual to aid to your own interpretations. But, I must say, the way this book chronicles the life of this duo and their approach and process, certainly makes it worth sharing...cause I wanna steal pretty much all of their ideas. More over, Robert and Cortney, are you looking to adopt a gown up? If so, call me..... I'm all yours!
It's nice to see Kiersten, of Mod Mom Furniture, branching out into the vintage/ Anthropologie direction with her latest toy box, Riley Paige. Nice work momma!

The most innovative pop-up book I've seen in a long time! Why hello ABC 3D.
BigShot is a camera that kids assemble from scratch, in several stages. Once the camera is put together, kids can experiment with framing, lighting and motion with a clear understanding of how the camera works. I'm totally not a PTA kind of mom but I want to get a photography program like this in my daughters school!
Literally..... designer Ricardo Seola created THIS educational music toy for children, that features a train that literally plays the track. The toy's track is designed with small bumps on it to pluck the metal keys on the train. The design borrows from the simple mechanics of wind-up music boxes and implements it in a whole new way. Because the track is divided into sections, children can rearrange them to change the song in new ways. The toy would feature multiple track featuring different songs that could also be combined to form even more musical possibilities.
I secretly want to ask that Santa bring me the Fallingwater and Guggenheim Lego sets. I've been really good!
Oh yeah.... since we are on topic of my holiday wish list ...... will you consider the Barky Turntable as well!
I'm researching bed canopies for a child's bed and I came across these interesting sources of inspiration from one of my favorite sites, Trouvais.
This bunk bed was designed by Richard Neutra for the Singleton Residence back in 1959 ... and is up for auction this Sunday at the Los Angeles Modern Auction! (via)
So, my daughter wanted to make a list of things that she would like Santa Claus to bring her this year. Here is the list. I love the fact that her first wish is for a magic wand. I asked her if that was the name of a particular toy she had seen .... to which she replied " No mom, like a real magic wand so I don't have to ask for things anymore..... I can just use my magic wand!" So if anyone knows where I, urh I mean Santa, can score a magic wand, please do let me know!
Ioline Changing Trunk from Kalon Studios is sweet! It's basically a changing table on the floor that turns into seating for your tot as well. It's made from 100% natural, non-toxic and sustainable materials.
I like Joe Luker's approach to children's slumber. Here is his modern take on the convertible Roto Bunk Bed, a standard Bunk Bed and the Roto Bunk Bed Updated.
The Belkiz Feedaway high chair is an interesting one. It's an easy to assemble cardboard highchair for when you are away from home ..... and it's 100% recyclable.

Onion Pinch was a cork installation in the Cais do Sodré subway station in Lisbon, Portugal. The idea was to place an urban toy in which children could stop, engage and play.
The next piece is the Napping Pods. Not much info on these as it looks this idea is but a pup.
So this is not a child sized sofa but it could bring such a playful and bright tone into any space that both parent and child share. My living room is calling out for the Mabel sofa from Donna Wilson.
I like the idea of having a flashlight lamp hanging over a reading nook for a kid. You could even hang one inside an indoor tee-pee or play tent.

The Children’s Museum of the Arts will be celebrating the innovative artwork of Menena Cottin and Rosana Faria with an exhibition dedicated to their children’s book The Black Book of Colors. Winner of the 2007 New Horizons Award at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair, the book teaches sighted children how people without sight can experience colors through sound, smell, touch and taste. As part of the educational programming inspired by the exhibition, CMA has partnered with Lighthouse International, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing critically needed vision and rehabilitation services, to explore art projects with their Pre-kindergarten and Kindergarten students. The original artwork created by the children will also be displayed at CMA.

Habitat was a beautiful kids' 4 poster bed called Mini Hana I would suggest getting the Wendy Curtain to convert this bed into magic!
Lisa Widen designed this curvy and soft Cloud Chair. I like to see chairs that both young and old can enjoy comfortably.
Carton Chic has a few new products that are pretty great. One is My Bio Little Market. It's made of compact cardboard and is 100% recycled. The next are disposable table mats with PEFC labelled paper. Each set comes with 18 mats. One set has Osez le dire + Bon Appetit + Voulez vous. The other set has Merci + You're Welcome + Say Hello.

Take the next 9:18 mins and check out this amazing short film by Claude Cloutier. It's got a bit of Monty Python meets classic fairy tale meets Charlie Chaplin meets absurd and silly old school style with subtle modernized pokes. Parents - I'd watch it first to determine if your child will enjoy it.
If you are in NYC, then go grab a copy of TimeOutNY and check out the Designer Challenge on page 28 (Issue #735). I, along with some very talented designers, was asked to take an ordinary household object and turn it into some great. I had the trash can challenge. I took 7 Ikea trash cans and turned them into a wall-mounted shoe rack. However, this same approach can be turned into a toy cubby as well! I call this The Oscar Rack (for my friend in the trash can down on Sesame Street) Photography by Diana Sonis.

Michael Ian Black wrote a hilarious picture book that Peter Brown illustrated. It's called THE PURPLE KANGAROO. The book is in a contest, and if enough people click on the following link and vote for THE PURPLE KANGAROO a mini-version of the book will be included in boxes of Cheerios cereal!

Peter Brown is a Children's book Author and Illustrator living in Brooklyn, NY. With four books under his belt, he is hedging his way into homes across the world with books that are making everyone take notice. One of the first things I noticed about Peter's work is his incredible ability to present perspective and scale. His painted illustrations, in both acrylic and gouache, tell a story wherein words aren't even necessary. But the words he chooses and the stories he tells, are filled with clever wit and potty humor that crack me up! In his latest book, The Curious Garden, he takes on the ideal that if we just take the time to think about our environment, we can make it a better place. Bravo Peter Brown and thank you for providing me with beautifully stunning and charming books to read to my child!
