Movie Review: Oz The Great and Powerful

Oz The Great and Powerful was showing at the El Capitan on March 4th for a Special Screening. My friend and I were lucky enough to attend this fun event. The wizard of Oz has always been a one of my favorite movies so I was excited to see this movie. The characters the story line and the all around charm that was found in The Wizard of Oz was also found in Oz the Great and Powerful.

We watched the movie in amazing 3D. Although I don't usually like watching movies in 3D, this movie was an exception. Their were so many moments that my friend and I jumped at different elements that seem to come out of the screen.

The characters in this movie were fun and charming. Especially the monkey named Finley and the China Girl. They gave this film an extra umph with their witty and funny dialogue.

The graphics in this movie were awe inspiring. An extreme close up of the china girl and fantastic visual effects really made this move.

The wicked witches (Mila Kuna and Rachel Weisz) could have been portrayed with more dynamics in my opinion as well as James Franco, who play Oz. Their really was nothing that magical about their characters that added to this film. However, I feel the story line was a good one and the scenery and costumes were outstanding.

I definitely feel that this movie would be too much for the little ones. My 4 year old really wanted to see this movie after watching the previews and watching the original "The Wizard of Oz". Unfortunately, the witches and some other scenes that take place would be far too scary for her.

This movie was entertaining and fun to watch, I would recommend it those who liked "The Wizard of Oz" and other fantasy films like it.

My 7-year-old son recently saw a preview for Monster's University and now he can't stop talking about it! I've got to admit, I'm looking forward to it myself!

Review: Chris Mann "Roads" Album

With soothing and elegant tones, Chris Mann's new album "Roads" has great listening value. I put his CD on the long commute home from work and I am transformed into a relaxing and warm atmosphere. His style and song choices remind me of Josh Groban and Andrea Bocelli, who are other favorite artists of mine to listen to when I have the need to relax.

Many familiar songs were found on this album such as Ave Maria, My Way, and Need You Now. Chris Mann brings his own style and feel to all of them. I love the sound of the piano that accompanies his songs.

You may remember Chris from his appearance on "The Voice". He was selected and became part of Christina Aguilera's group. Once the season was over he signed with a record company and started working on this great album.

Over the years I have tried many different kinds of mints; spearmint, peppermint, winter green, winter fresh, fresh mint, butter mint, just to name a few. Recently Ice Breakers has come out with a new kind of mint, a combination of fruit and mint that gives a whole new flavor associated with mint.

Ice Breakers Duo® Raspberry Mints, have the great taste of Raspberry with a very subtle flavor of mint. The raspberry flavor is a little more powerful and makes the combination just right. My kids and I love this flavor and have very quickly gone through the mints that were provided for us to review.

Ice Breakers Duo® Strawberry Mints are also a great combination, with mint and strawberry. These Duo mints have to different textured sides, one that is smooth and minty with little strawberry flavor crystals throughout. The other side is fun with it's bumpy texture of strawberry flavor.

I love the fact that these, like other Icebreaker mints, have a "to share" and a " not to share" on each side of the package.

Review: Wreck- It-Ralph

I had the opportunity to take my kids to see the screening of Wreck-It- Ralph last week. My boys, ages 11 and 7, love video games and have been waiting for this movie to come out since it was first announced.

Wreck-It-Ralph is the evil villain of the video game "Fix-It-Felix". Tired of being the villain, he ventures out of his game and enters another so he that he can prove to those in his video game that he deserves a medal too. He meets a spunky little girl named Vanellope von Schweetz, played by Sarah Silverman, who loses his medal but helps him regain it.

I loved seeing old classic characters from some of the older video games my generation grew up playing. Pac-Man, Bowser, Q*burt all made an nostalgic appearance in this movie.

My boys loved this movie, and can't wait to see it again when it's released to the public on Nov. 2nd, 2012.

Product Review: Monopoly Zapped

Monopoly Zapped is not your ordinary Monopoly game. It is a more in depth and tech-savvy version of the classic. I asked my 11 year old son if he would like to play a game of monopoly with me. His reply, "Umm.. Yeah, I don't think so." It's sad but true, with so many stimulating video and computer games out there today, a simple board game does not sound so tempting.

However, once I started playing this with my younger 7 year son, my 11 year old curiously wondered over to check out the fun that was going on. When he saw that this game used the iphone to charge and credit your own little "charge card" and he saw the great little mini games that were played on the iphone when one of us landed on "chance" or "community chest" he was hooked.

He asked us, "Could you please start the game over? I would really like to play too." Umm.. gee wish he would have thought of that 45 minutes earlier when we weren't in the middle of the game.

Fortunately for him, I landed on one of my younger sons' hotel properties and went bankrupt. This game handles up to four players, each with their own token and charge card. The iphone app serves as the banker and let's you swipe your charge card to buy properties or rent when you land on opponent's already purchased property. The app will then charge your card and credit your opponents.

The added iphone app really adds some neat elements to the game. The chance and community chest tiles are much more interactive. When you land on one of these, players compete against each other in little mini-games to see who will have to pay, or who will inherit.

Property cards are still used and distributed when lands on and buys the property. You just enter the amount that you purchasing the property for, swipe your card and it's yours.

If you find yourself landing in jail, a new option is now available to "break out". You then get to play a fun little mini-game where you fling yourself over the wall and try to let in the getaway car. This is not as easy as it may sound.

All in all the rules and the board are still the same with this zapped version of Monopoly. Just a lot more fun and inter-activeness with the iphone or ipod app as it's new addition.

Carlton Hair Salons can be found all across California, from San Diego all the way up to San Francisco. I'm lucky enough to have one right here in my own city of Riverside, CA. Riverside, CA has many salons but Carlton Hair is one of the few top notch salons where you know you will walk out of the salon feeling confident in your new hairstyle.

I made an appointment last Friday with Carlton Hair Salons to get my hair done. As I walked into the Salon, I was greeted warmly by the receptionist. I was then introduced to Amber my new stylist. Amber and I discussed different option for my hair and decided on partial blonde highlights, an inch off my hair and more additional layers.

Because I was rushed for time, Amber had one of her assistants help her in highlighting, washing and styling my hair. It was a unique experience for met to have four hands all at once working on my hair.

The final result, a great new hairstyle full of volume, color and vibrancy.
