There’s been a whole lot of changes recently in the world of Miscued Vein, and the guys have been doing a lot of soul searching to go along with it.

Two of the band members became proud fathers recently, and with the hectic demands of the music world constantly calling, the guys took the hard but understandable decision to devote more time to their families.

Just like students taking a Gap Year from studies, the band as a whole have decided to take a step back and enjoy a bit of a break.

They’ll be taking a breather and regrouping, before coming back stronger in the future.

A Proud and Fun Year

It seems amazing to think that this month of April 2011, actually only marks the 1 year anniversary of the band hitting the road, and it makes it even harder to believe, when the guys actually look back upon their journey during that time.

The guys somehow managed to squeeze in an incredible list of opportunities with sold out gigs, festivals, competitions, photo shoots, newspaper interviews, radio, and television appearances.

It has been non-stop for 12 months, with countless memories and giggles along the way.

And supporting them at every step on that journey, has been the truly amazing people that have been behind them wishing them the best, and enjoying the performances and the music.

To you folks, the band simply can’t thank you enough, and they hope that you’ve enjoyed the journey half as much as they have.

So until the next journey starts with the Miscued Vein train, thanks a million and see you in the future…

After learning that the band had made it through to the next round of the International Surface Festival, the guys were delighted to learn that another of their top tracks was also being played on the radio.

A big shout out to Aaron Phillips from The Rock Show on Amazing Radio, for choosing to play the band’s song Healing Cause – sung of course by the band’s bass player and new Daddy Bear – Kev!

If you kept up-to-date with all of the live updates and live pictures on our Facebook page, you’ll know that Miscued Vein won through to the next round in Saturday night’s competition in Glasgow for the International Surface Festival.

The lads were delighted at the result, and are looking forward to the next round, which is getting scheduled for some time in May.  Details to follow…..

Thank you to the mad crowd that headed in to cheer on the band; you guys REALLY made an impression on the organisers!  Especially when the head man Andy started to try and thank the band for their performance, and the crowd started up an off-the-cuff rendition of the PRAY chant to drown him out.

Live & Unsigned – a full on show

This Saturday of course sees the guys performing at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall (oooh!).

This is the Regional Finals of the massive Live and Unsigned competition – THE biggest UK music competition for original bands and singers.

The huge show will be getting filmed and is done in the style of the hugely popular X-Factor, but this time it’s for original music.  So the guys have to put together a tricky piece, merging one of their own original songs into a popular cover song, to prove they have the creativity and musical skills to make it past the judges.

It’s a full on night at the Concert Hall with loads of bands and artists trying to make it through; should be a great night out.

And the night is completely open TO ALL AGES.

Tickets normally cost £7.50 but Miscued Vein got a strictly limited batch
that you can buy for only £5!

You don’t need to be there for Miscued Vein; just enjoy a great night out.  Mind and check your make-up though, as you could be filmed!

To help the lads from Miscued Vein get in the mood for their latest big night at the International Surface Festival night in Glasgow on Saturday, some very cool young ladies have went to some great effort to cheer them along.

The technicians and floor managers from the International Surface Festival have arrived in Glasgow, and set everything up at Slouch in Glasgow, for Miscued Vein’s arrival this Saturday night.

Head to Head

The guys go head-to-head with another 6 top bands in front of a live audience, and a panel of music industry professionals and journalists.

Everyone has a chance to place their vote, including the audience, and at the end of the night we all find out who has made it through to the next round.

The pace is just relentless at the moment….

A Pregnant Pause

First up, we had the case of the disappearing Bass player!

Our Kev had to dash away from the wacky world of Miscued Vein, as his much better half produced a wonderful bouncing baby boy – Matthew Anthony Bennett – into the world.

Congratulations to the whole family!

That left a gap for the big gig at the Barrowlands.

And into that gap at the VERY last minute, stepped the more than capable Barry Davidson!
Some very rushed practices on the VERY DAY of the gig, and Barry did incredibly well to put on a fantastic show at the Barras.

If you were one of the crowd there, you’ll know what a brilliant night it was.  The hall is still echoing with the chanting of the full audience at the end of the band’s song PRAY.

Thanks to everyone who came along that night – the Party Bus nutters from Carluke, Amy and the gals from Livingston, and the Pied Piper himself Ronnie who managed to herd his young crowd together.  A top night was had by all!

On The Surface

Tickets for the Surface Festival gig this Saturday 5th March, have been snapped up very quickly.

There are only 4 or 5 physical tickets left, and you must see one of the band to get your hands on them.

What’s it all about?

Well, we told you a while back that the lads had made it through yet another round in the competition for the International Surface Music Festival.  This is the latest heat and will see some of the best unsigned talent across Central Scotland, all going head-to-head, with the winner being decided on the night.

And the audience plays their part too!

Everyone in the audience is asked to vote on the bands that play that night, and a show of those very hands (they could be yours!) will help to vote through the winners.

Votes will also be carried by the bands themselves, and a panel of music industry judges who will be there for the night.

A Royal Event

As if winning through the rounds of the International Surface Festival competition wasn’t enough…..they’ve only gone and won through to the Regional Finals of the massive Live and Unsigned competition as well!!!

Yes, Miscued Vein will be appearing at Glasgow’s famous Royal Concert Hall on Saturday 12th March, and we are STRICTLY limited to only 25 tickets!

The evening show is open to ALL AGES and the UK’s largest ever unsigned music competition could prove to be quite an event.

Just like TV’s X-Factor show, the audience will be treated to LOADS of different bands and acts that have made it this far, from the 10,000 that started the journey.  And a ticket at only £5 will provide you access to that full line-up (8:15pm-10:30pm).

Each act will perform on stage, including Miscued Vein playing a specially crafted song for their performance, in front of a top panel of industry celebrities and members of the press.

TV cameras will be filming the event, so if you have any fear about appearing on TV, please do NOT buy a ticket for this event.

Will the guys make it through yet another round?  Can they make 2 more steps to the massive Grand Final at London’s O2 arena?  Who knows.  Either way, you could just be enjoying a special night in the city.

Miscued Vein have successfully won through another competition round in The Surface Festival 2011 – the International Festival for New Music.

The guys will now play in front of industry professionals, who will judge their performance, and decide which of the 7 bands playing that night, will go through to the next stage.

And a VERY select set of fans can also be there – but ONLY 25 of them!

The select few will be given exclusive access to the night of live music, at SLOUCH in Glasgow on Saturday 5th March.

They will be entertained by 7 top acts that have made it this far, and then the audience will be involved in the voting process.  The winners will be announced at the end of the night.

They’re back!  They’re LIVE!

Weeks of 2011 have passed by, and the lads from Miscued Vein have been secretly involved in festival meetings and auditions, arranging events with other bands, discussions with record labels and tour companies, and they’ve also won through private judging rounds in competitions, with the next general public rounds to be revealed shortly…

But for now….they’re back in public…performing live!!!

We were delighted to learn that Green Man Arts & Culture have recently published a review of the Miscued Vein demo album, which you can read below.

The team at Green Man includes Andy Cox, Mark Fowler, Dave Franklin, Phil Hamer, Joy Hanley, and Tom Himself.

Not to be confused with the video guru “TheGreenMan” from New York, who kindly did one of the Miscued Vein videos last year, these guys are very well known for their editorial reviews of Arts and Culture, with a focus on the unsigned and underground artists who are causing a stir.

The Green Man Arts & Culture review of the Miscued Vein album…

Sometimes the simple approach is the best. When so many bands seem to regale themselves in convoluted mission statements, surround themselves with mysterious musical trappings or adopt a more-fashionable-than-thou attitude, Miscued Vein opt for an easier life. With equal measures of classic rock and contemporary roll they appear content to just let their songs do their work for them. Heavy on the melody and oozing with infectious, fist in the air, anthemic qualities, their 6 track demo has a lot to recommend it.

Whether it’s the staccato drives of Ugly Sisters or the more pop-rock bounce of Fat Lady Thing, the band seem more than aware of the simple fact that it is the song that is important. Nothing is overplayed, there are no unnessecary showy displays of ego tripping, just cleverly layer musicianship that leave the songs larger than life but not cluttered. Or to sum up the album another way – it is big and it is clever.

This could even be the band that break South Wales’ seeming dominance of the big emotive rock thing, given all the usual lucky breaks and a favourable wind. With bands like Bullet For My Valentine, LostProphets and now Colours of One riding high in this genre, maybe it’s time that Scotland got in on the act. And whilst they may not yet have the song that is going to catapult them into the big leagues (Pray might be the possible exception), this collection of songs and the attitude that goes with it are proof that it may only be a matter of time.
