We’re extremely proud to announce the launch of the new website for the Apartment Association of New Mexico.

The new website includes their updated logo commemorating their 30th anniversary. We developed the new website in a content management system (CMS) called ExpressionEngine. This allows them to be able to easily manage and maintain their own website, without having to know anything about html or how to put together a website. They’ve been able to easily enter all their events and classes.

It was a pleasure working with Steve Smith and the team at AANM and we look forward to working with them for years to come!

Will using a CMS improve my search results?

The capabilities brought to you, the end user, by a CMS can lead you to dominate Google, Yahoo, and other search engines. A website brought to you by MIS will have features in place to gain search engine rankings quickly, especially if the existing website has been established for over a year, a condition imposed by Google. The best way to keep rankings climbing, as a rule of thumb, is to post content relevant to the topic of your website frequently and consistently. As we leave your website updating up to you, the level of effort you put in will directly correlate with your search engine rankings 90% of the time. As part of our training, we coach you on how to create content that will attract high search engine rankings. Websites that are updated more frequently are favored by search engines. It is for this reason why (some say) blogs help websites achieve high search rankings.

I need to buy or run extra software to make updating my website possible?

Nope. A plain ol’ web browser will do. You can use the same skills as you use in MS Word, Pages, or similar desktop publishing software. There are enhanced blog publishing applications that can be purchased, but they are mainly used to enhance user experience of blog publishing and can be used to keep a desktop copy of posts, or to compose posts without an internet connection and post directly later on. We don’t use them at the office though, so no need to go out and get one unless it carries features you need.

I like the site I have, but I need to sell my products on it. Can you help?

Absolutely! Our approach to this would be different depending on what kind of site you currently have, but we can absolutely either integrate a shopping cart into your existing site, or integrate your existing site into a shopping cart! The only difference you’ll notice is how great it works.

I have a static page website and can already edit everything. Why do I need a CMS?

It is very common for owners of static page websites to be able to add content to their pages. But does it happen very often? No - and the reason is, having to surf through all of that nasty html code to get to the stuff to edit. Furthermore, the process simply to add a page can be arduous! Imagine having a 20 page website - not uncommon - and adding page 21. Well suppose it only takes you an hour to duplicate another page, make the adjustments to make it its own page and send it live. Now here’s the fun part - you have to link to this page, and so you need to go in to all of those 20 existing pages and write a link to the new one! That’s 20 edits to existing pages just to add one page. That’s also 20 times the margin of error you could be avoiding with the CMS. With a CMS, the time it takes to add a page is the time it takes TO ENTER THE CONTENT ONLY. Once you hit submit, all other pages are linked to it, and it is created automatically. Besides, have you ever erroneously edited your code and not known how to fix it? People savvy enough to fix these erroneous edits are also savvy enough to have their site on a CMS, already.

In the spirit of “nothing is original,” it is a very bad practice to copy other people’s hard work, but very good practice to take note of what features of other websites would work for you. It is even better to notice the features you want on several websites and compile a list to form into your own unique design and feature plan that will be better than the site you were going to copy, 100% of the time. We can make all of the features you want in a site for you uniquely, and therefore, finding one site you like is only the beginning.

I’m not exactly sure what my business needs out of the web..

Can I change the pictures on my website?

In a word, yes! You will not only be able to change them, but place new ones, and delete ones you no longer wish to have on your website, though we recommend against deleting anything but mistakes. If you want to change the look and feel of your website, including some of those images, you might need to ask for our help. You can post unlimited photo galleries independently, and even ask us how to make them look a certain way in your training we provide.

Windsor Door Sales

We recently launched a new website for Windsor Door Sales in Albuquerque, NM. Their existing website did not accurately portray the growth in their business and the depth of the products and services they offered.

The new website was developed in a content management system (CMS) called ExpressionEngine. This allows them to be able to easily manage and maintain their own website, without having to know anything about html or how to put together a website. They’ve been able to enter hundreds of products and upload photos, and pdf documents all using a simple web-based interface.

It was a pleasure working with Andy and the team at Windsor Door Sales and we look forward to helping them grow their business even more!
