I was invited to the Yoox Special Projects presentation, where they showed some of the future collaborations (I've seen them, and wow, it is promising!. They wouldn't allow photographs though) as well of the present sales, like books, exclusive handbags, vintage collections...

The place was great, an attic in Ortega & Gasset (like Saint Honoré, but in Madrid). You could see almost all the city from there. We saw Ana Locking and talked about her next project: a presentation in NY of her new collection along with Duyos, Carmen March and Juanjo Oliva. We wish you good luck!

Hoy he asistido a la presentación de Proyectos Especiales de Yoox, donde nos han enseñado algunas de las futuras colecciones (las he visto, y wow, prometen! No nos han dejado hacer fotos...) así como las colaboraciones que tienen ahora, de libros, bolsos, colecciones vintage...

El sitio era fenomenal, un ático en Ortega y Gasset. Se podía ver todo Madrid desde allí. Hemos estado hablando con Ana Locking, que también ha ido a la presentación, y nos ha contado cómo va a ser lo de NY. Se trata de un desfile virtual junto a Duyos, Carmen March y Juanjo Oliva, que presentarán en Nueva York durante la semana de la moda. Suerte a todos!

Everything old is new again - All that jazz

One of my favourite scenes ever. It is from the great movie All that jazz, directed and choreographed by Bob Fosse the Great, and the main character is played by Roy Scheider. The movie tells the story of a director/writer/choreographer (Joe Gideon) that suffers a heart attack because of his self-destroying lifestyle. In fact, the movie is based on Bob Fosse's life, one of the greatest directors and choreographers ever. Some of the characters in the movie are performed by themselves, for example, Ann Reinking plays the part of Joe Gideon's lover, when in fact, she used to be Bob's mistress some years before the movie was filmed. A curious anecdote is that Bob made her pass an audition, when it was obvious that she was the best person for the part as she would be playing herself.

Roy Scheider is amazing in this film. I had never seen such a good performance. It gives you the impression that you are seeing a documentary instead of a fictional movie.

In this scene, which is one of the most adorable and sensitive scenes I've ever scene, is performed by Ann Reinking and Erzsebet Foldi, who beautifully plays the part of Joe's daughter. This scene is enough to show you the relationships between the three characters, how the daughter admires her father, how the father kind of regrets what he's doing with his life, and how he actually loves his lover.

This scene will bring a smile to your face.

Crisis, what crisis? - Ridiculously expensive things

Sometimes when I read a fashion magazine (usually when I read Vogue Spain, it seems the magazine is directed only to millionaire women), I am stunned at how expensive some clothes are. If they have diamonds or it is vintage, the high price is reasonable, but in other cases the price is just too high. Think of the Chanel resin bangles, or the Karl Lagerfeld handbag. Yeah, ridiculous. The sad part is that people actually pay that enormous quantity. And in these times.

A veces cuando leo alguna revista (me pasa sobretodo en Vogue España, parece que sólo se dirigen a esposas de jeques árabes) me sorprenden los precios tan elevadísimos de algunas cosas. Si llevan diamantes incrustados o se trata de ropa vintage, el precio tan caro es razonable, pero en otros casos es simplemente absurdo. Por ejemplo, unos brazaletes de resina de Chanel de hace un par de temporadas o la bolsa con la cara de Lagerfeld estampada. Totalmente ridículo. Lo triste es que sí que hay gente que paga eso. Y en estos tiempos.

Aimee Mullins

(this post is a continuation of the last one I published)

Thanks to Jessica I found out more about this girl. I already knew her but I didn't know she was the same person in the Dazed & Confused cover. Her name is Aimee Mullins, a very well-known athlete. In addition, she has worked as a model for several magazines and of course, for Alexander Mcqueen . She walked in one of his shows (I couldn't find a photo, but you'll see it in the second video) wearing a pair of wooden prosthetic legs (picture below) that looked like boots. Nobody realized half of her legs were missing.

She was born with problems in her legs and lost them at the age of 1. At a very young age she began playing all sorts of sports and won several medals. She even broke a world record. Since then, she has been showing us how much you can achieve no matter how you are. An example of human bravery and talent.

I highly recommend watching these two videos. The first one (made when she was young) is quite long, but it is really worth it. It also brings you an example of how she is now more mature, but still is the same optimistic and persevering person she always was.

Gracias a Jessica he averiguado más sobre esta fascinante mujer. La cuestión es que ya conocía a esta atleta, pero no sabía que era la misma que la de la portada de Dazed & Confused. Su nombre es Aimee Mullins, una de las atletas más increíbles que se ha visto jamás. Además, ha trabajado como modelo para numerosas revistas, y por supuesto, no podemos olvidar su aparición en uno de los desfiles de Alexander McQueen (no he podido encontrar ninguna foto, pero se ve en el segundo vídeo). En él llevaba unas piernas ortopédicas de madera labrada. Eran tan bonitas que nadie se dió cuenta de que le faltaba la mitad de las dos piernas. Todo el mundo pensó que eran simplemente unas botas preciosas.

Nació con un problema en las piernas y las perdió a la edad de un año. Ya desde muy joven empezó a practicar todo tipo de deportes y ha ganado muchísimas medallas, e incluso batió un récord mundial. Desde entonces nos ha enseñado todo lo que se puede conseguir sin importar cómo seas. Un verdadero ejemplo de talento y valentía.

Os recomiendo que veáis estos dos vídeos. El primero (en el que entrevistan a una Aimee más joven) es más largo, pero realmente merece la pena. También te muestra cómo ella es más madura ahora, pero sigue siendo la misma persona optimista y perseverante que siempre fue.

I say that I'm confused because I don't know what they are trying to say. I think it is one of the most beautiful covers I've ever seen. The tagline is quite good too, but why do they add the question mark? Are they saying that she is not fashionable? Or are they just trying to make us think about it? If it wasn't for that question mark, the cover would be perfect. And yes, she IS fashionable.

Digo que esta portada es confusa porque no entiendo qué es lo que intentan decir. Creo que es una de las portadas más bellas que he visto. El titular es bueno también, ¿pero por qué añaden la interrogación al final? ¿Están insinuando que ella no es "fashionable"? ¿O simplemente es para hacernos pensar? Si no fuera por esa interrogación, la portada sería perfecta. Y sí, por supuesto que ella es "fashionable".

Streetstyle in Paris (on the Seine)

This is the first time (except for the backstage pics I take every fashion week) I do streetstyle (well, does it count if I'm in a boat?). I saw so many elegant women in Paris, but I was too shy to photograph them. Nevertheless, I felt I had to photograph these outfits. I loved them.

Lancôme: Bloggers Event on a Cruise in the Seine!

This year I had decided that for my birthday I had to do something really special: ¿Breakfast at the Ritz? ¿Go to the theater to see a musical? ¿Have dinner at the best restaurant in Madrid? When I couldn't come up with realist ideas (that is, nothing about meeting Johnny Depp) I received the invitation to the event held by the Balistik*Art agency and Lancôme. As I kept reading, it got better: travel to Paris, meeting Lancôme's Creative Director (Aaron de Mey), in a boat in the Seine. A presentation of the Indigo collection by Aaron de Mey followed by a lunch and a cruise through the Seine. Nothing could exceed that.

As I was travelling to Paris for the event, I decided to stay a couple of days more and visit the city. I visited tons of shops, various museums and special places. I'll tell more about that tomorrow. Today I'll explain everything about the Lancôme presentation.

Este año había decidido que para mi cumpleaños tenía que hacer algo súper especial: ¿Desayuno en el Ritz? ¿Ir al teatro a ver un musical? ¿Cenar en el mejor restaurante de Madrid? Cuando ya se me habían acabado las ideas realistas (es decir, nada de ir a conocer a Johnny Depp) me llegó la invitación al evento que organizaba la agencia de publicidad Balistik*Art junto a Lancôme. Según iba leyendo, la cosa mejoraba aún más: Viaje a París, conocer al Director Creativo de Lancôme (Aaron de Mey), en un barco por el Sena. Presentación de la colección por Aaron de Mey seguida de aperitivo y crucero por el Sena. Imposible de superar.

Aprovechando que iba a la presentación en París, me quedé el fin de semana y me recorrí medio París en busca de tiendas, museos y lugares especiales. Sobre lo que encontré os contaré mañana. Hoy os enseño cómo fue el evento Lancôme.

The Indigo Collection by Aaron de Mey

Aaron explained us the development of the collection. He travelled to Japan and studied the Geisha's culture, the difficulty of getting their unique make-up pigments and the tradition. In their culture, make-up brushes were forever, the grandmother would give it to her daughter, and to the granddaughter, etc. The need for things that lasted ages, but that were also useful. He was inspired in the french colours: red and blue; in Picasso, Delacroix... and has created a collection for women that like to adjust their make-up in the street, the subway or in a restaurant.

Aaron nos explicó el desarrolo de la colección. Viajó a Japón y estudió la cultura de las geishas, según él, es difícil conseguir el pigmento tan único que usan para su maquillaje, y su sentido de la tradición. En esa cultura las brochas de maquillaje son para siempre, se pasan de madres a hijas durante años. Aaron estaba interesado también en la necesidad de crear artículos que duraran en el tiempo, pero que fueran útiles. Inspirado en los colores de Francia, rojo y azul, en Picasso, en Delacroix... ha creado una colección para todas aquellas mujeres que se retocan el maquillaje en la calle, el metro o en un restaurante.

When I created this blog, Gemma Ward was The Model. The Gemma Generation included a bunch of girls that expressed the baby-doll feeling better than anybody: Heather Marks, Sasha Pivovarova, Vlada Roslyakova... Nevertheless, for me Gemma was unique. She had that features that made you think: is she beautiful or just an alien beauty? I don't know, but I think she is one of the most influent models of the XXI Century (so far). I wish she hadn't retired, I miss her on the runway.

She stopped modelling to become an actress. She appeared in a couple of films, in her homeland, Australia. Now people say that because of a depression (caused by Heath Ledger's death) she has gained weight. In my opinion, maybe she was just tired of always being on a diet and started to eat properly.

Cuando empecé este blog, Gemma Ward era La Modelo. La Generación Gemma incluía a varias modelos que transmitían ese gusto por lo baby-doll que tanto estuvo de moda: Heather Marks, Sasha Pivovarova, Vlada Roslyakova... sin embargo, para mí Gemma era única. Tenía esos rasgos que te hacían verla como una chica guapísima o rarísima. En mi opinión, es una de las modelos más influyentes del siglo XXI. Ojalá no se hubiera retirado, se la hecha de menos en las pasarelas y en las editoriales.

This trend may have started so long ago, but I admit I still like it. Of course, in a moderated way. Ripped jeans were never away, but they made a big comeback with Martin Margiela and Christopher Kane.

If you are wearing ripped jeans, don't pair them with a ripped t-shirt. It will look ridiculous. Balance it with simple t-shirts and elegant accesories for a better result.

Esta tendencia empezó ya hace tiempo, pero debo admitir que aún me sigue gustando. Por supuesto de una manera moderada. Los pantalones rotos nunca se fueron realmente, aunque los responsables de que ahora la gente rompa pantalones nuevos son Christopher Kane y Martin Margiela principalmente.

Si llevas unos pantalones rotos, no te pongas una camiseta rota también, quedará ridículo. Equilíbralo con camisetas sencillas y accesorios elegantes.
