It’s been awhile since our last one (the delay is either due to a Writers Guild labor dispute or just a case of writer’s block). Our Semana Santa with Joseph and Tito

Amber and I had a wonderful Semana Santa with two of our favorite people: Joseph and Josecito (”Tito”). These two little boys really captured our hearts during the Christmas holiday when we first babysat them. Our affection for them has grown even more this week.

It was a week of non-stop fun…and sleep deprivation! We took them on outings (including the pool, the mall, McDonald’s and Pizza Hut playgrounds, and an Easter service); to family gatherings (with our friend Hellen Castro); a birthday party (for Doña Helen, Nueva Imagen’s director); and we played, and played, and played in and around the house! Here are some pictures and video clips from the week:

It was no fun at all dropping them off at their orphanage this morning. All four of us shed a few tears. But we’re thankful to live close by and plan to continue visiting the boys — and their little friends! — every Saturday.

In Honor of April Fools Day, My Favorite Mission Trip Prank!

To celebrate April Fools Day, I want to take you back to my all-time favorite mission trip prank! This video was shot last summer with the Emmanuel Fellowship short-term mission team in Nicaragua. The guys of the team (myself included) played a prank on the ladies of the team (in response to several other escalating pranks, of course!). “A Day With Gumby” has a shocking, surprise ending, so be sure to watch it all the way through. Enjoy!

Earlier today I posted some pictures of our “Two Christmases in Nicaragua,” including our time with Joseph and Tito, the two brothers from a nearby orphanage we took care of this week. Below are a few short video clips with the boys.

Obviously these two little guys pulled at our heartstrings — as I’m sure any and all of the orphans would if the whole troop had stayed with us! By the sheer number of pictures and videos we shot this week, can you tell we cannot wait to become parents?!?!

Please join us in praying for these kids — and the hundreds of other orphans in Nicaragua — that they will be placed in loving homes as quickly as possible. And please pray that one of the homes is ours!!!

One of the most inspiring, moving, Spirit-led worship experiences of my life occurred a couple of weeks ago during the Seacoast medical mission trip at the Nueva Jerusalén Church. It was twenty Americans and two hundred Nicaraguans praising God.

No inhibitions.

No concerns about a language barrier.

No holding back.

Just singing to our Lord and Savior.

It was awesome.

As you’re watching, just imagine millions and millions of believers — from centuries past, today, and future generations, representing thousands of languages and cultures — worshiping together in spirit and in truth. What a day that will be!

Episode 008 - Emmanuel Mission Trip

Just to prove that the Emmanuel Fellowship team didn’t goof off the whole time they were in Nicaragua, Episode 008 of Missions Minded Videos shows what the mission really was about: serving the First Baptist Church of Diriamba and providing a fun, Jesus-focused vacation Bible school for the kids there.

I finished this video just in time for our “debriefing meeting” with the church families in Diriamba. They’re going to love laughing at their “chele friends” — and enjoy remembering the fun times had by all! I hope you enjoy the video too.

James Bond is “007″. It’s entirely appropriate that Episode 007 of Missions Minded Videos is a top-secret, under cover, covert operation. No lives were risked making this video, but lots of laughs ensued!
